Good app for fine tuning kernel settings? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey can anyone recommend an app to mess with/fine tune kernel settings? I've tried and do not really like the Trickster Mod app because it often doesn't save what I chose and just reverts to something different... Thanks in advance!
BTW I'm on a Sprint S5 running MOAR v2.0 and running the stock NE5 kernel.
PS- I do not want to run KT Kernel.

Anyone?

Hi,
u tried Synapse kernel tweaker ?
It's a valid generic app for work with kernel setting

There are dozens of kernel and cpu control apps. You didn't give us much sense of what you are looking for so we can't make any targeted suggestions.
I used CPU adjuster. But there are lots of others e.g. CPU tuner, set CPU, Kernel tweaker, etc.

Always used Set CPU, it's an old one but it's light and does the job. Has the options so long as the kernel support it.

Hey guys I have a question... which scheduler should I use when I want to play games/save battery (out of: noop, deadline, row, cfq) and which governor should I use when I want to play games/save battery (out of: interactive, conservative, ondemand, userspace, powersave, performance)?? TIA!!

For the governor, for gaming you should use performance, it maintains the device at a high CPU speed at almost all times, to save battery you can use powersave or conservative, I prefer conservative, and for normal device use ondemand or interactive. As of scheduler, I don't really know about them
BTW you can set your device to automatically change between them when needed with Franco's Per-App Modes https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.perappmodes
Its a paid app but it is worth the money

Quadrant scores!!!

Hey guys with all the quadrant scores being posted everywhere, I haven't seen a topic dedicated to these alone. So that's what this thread is for. Here are the rules:
Rule 1: when you post a quadrant please tell everyone what Rom/Kernel you are running so if anyone wishes to follow your steps they may do so.
Rule 2: Please merge your posts if your going to post one after another or simply edit your post and update it to maintain order.
That's it. Thanks guys and here is my quadrant. AOKP 40.1 devil .97 with v6 super charger and kak

Fo realz yo!!!
AOKP 40.1
Devil3 .96
1400 max-200min, 800-200 sleep, no OC\UV
V6 Supercharged 100%, KAK with IO Sched(SIO) tweaks tweaks, 3G turbo
Yeah, it's pretty zippy, I must say!!!!

Hey azuma how did you get your CPU so high? Also I need you to test something for me. Antutu tels me I'm pulling over 3200 in a quad. But quad pro tells me just over 2600. I'm unsure which to believe
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
I believe antutu runs more tests than quadrant, therefore showing a higher score, but I could be mistaken?
My phone IS fast and stable, but now I think I need to work on better battery!?

Dim your screen. Go to (I think development) and put a chexk in kill background processes and leave no programs running. I also use toolbox pro to freeze apps that continuously run and use the mobile web version of them.

Seems like you started this thread so we could show off each of our own tweaks and roms. I came here for a little advice too. That way I could see some big performance increases to my phone.
(first screen capture)
old rom: AOKP 40
old kernel: devil .79
old CPU governor: smartassv2
min-max frequency: 200-1400
(second screen capture)
Current rom: AOKP 40
Current kernel: devil .79
Current CPU governor: conservative
min-max frequency: 100-1400
I was curious I used the ROM setting built into the AOKP rom to set the cpu frequency, but should i use devil kernel config or manager or nstools. or is that just for live OC? My cpu frequency is set at boot. My quadrant scores are pretty low. Any tips for a noob?

Yeak I got a couple for ya.
Go to settings, Developer settings, then put a check mark in Force GPU Rendering Make sure the Max CPU is 1400 low is 100 Governer I have set to conservative, ZRam is set for 100mb. Try those settings and reboot before you test again

Ok I believe the Force GPU rendering definitely made the biggest difference. My 2d and 3d scores jumped up. I updated my post. For some reason in the ROM controls it took a couple tries for the new cpu and governor settings to stick after reboot.

MunkyDrunky that still seems a little low considering what everyone else is pulling. Try this as well. And I'll include the files from my phone when I get to my computer with instructions.
Get if not already had toolbox
And go to performance and SD card boost. Change the value to 2480 (I think it is. It will give you a preferred high set)
Go to app manager and freeze any constantly running services that you would normally use such as yahoo mail Facebook etc. And use the mobile web versions to help save ram. I'll include v6, 3G, and a few other files you'll need as well.
After the SD boost and app freeze reboot phone into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik. Then reboot and try your test again.

Ok Ive used Rom toolbox when I was using the Gummy rom. Would I still use devil kernel config or manager for the cpu and ram free value changes? How do I make sure the changes will always stick, ive had trouble with that after reboot.

I should say my running apps are usually not many. Right now its Rom Control, Android keyboard, Maps, Nova Launcher, and Rom Toolbox, and Superuser. I test my gps a lot with Maps. Otherwise I dont have a lot running since this isnt my daily use phone. I want it to be again but want to get it flying first.
Thank you for the good advice and help. Trying SD boost now...will try v6 and 3g speed boost later
I use v6 supercharger, sd boost, and app quarantine while at 1300 MHz and I still only get around 1500...I feel like that's pretty low for AOKP MS6 with devil right?

What kind of settings are you guys using for SetCPU? What profiles, voltages, speeds, etc?

Right now SETCPU is kinda of unlessc Whatever profile you make will be taken over by Project butter AKA Googles Powerhal. Setcpu will only really help you if you are using Faux123 kernel but then you might has well support faux and buy his app since it will give you voltage control and color settings. I do not think setcpu gives you voltage control with faux123 kernel but i am not 100% sure about that. I am sure down the road setcpu will play a bigger role once kernels start to change more and give you more options.

I underclocked. It gives me more battery life. Max @918mhz.

I noticed that if I just look at the stats of setCPU (without changing any stock settings) then the phone jumps between 384 MHz to 1584 MHz just by breathing on the screen... and that's not an exaggeration...

[Q] which Governor?

Currently using "832/312 smartassV2 sio" because its a popular config but im looking for better battery efficiency but when Im gonna play games I want it to ramp up to the max frequency but like I said when im just using sms and other little apps I want it to be at a frequency that wont make my phone lag but save battery. For me I think smartassV2 is too aggressive.
btw im using no-frills with Hell Fusion #50

I think only smartassv2 and ondemand are the best for your needs. You can also try brazillianwax, it also works like smartassv2 but much more performance with this.

another kernel

Hii all
Am running Franco kernel and its pretty good
But I was just wondering if there was a kernel which offers a lower clock speed like in Matr1x but also offers the ability to adjust gama colors like in franco ???
Thnxxx
Well, you could try faux, but I think you'll have to pay again for an app like Trickster Mod to be able to control color and gamma settings.
Wait, doesn't franco give you the option to choose a lower clock speed as well?

SetCpu for the Razr M

guys I am rooted on stock 4.1.2, unlocked bootloader an' all that jazz, i used to use setcpu on nexus s and the old droid milestone, does setcpu work for the razr m? any good working profiles without the reboots and stuff ?
All of the 4.2.2 roms I have tried have a settings option called Performance that lets you set the min/max CPU speeds, switch between different kinds of governors, and play around with RAM management settings.

So far the clocks have stuck Meaning once you set a clock its stays there, doesn't reset to default. As for govs and I/O, I use msm-dvcs as my gov and row as my I/O. Msm-dvcs will shut a CPU core down when not needed

That's nice... but shutting down a core... isn't that harmful for the phones life or something? Just asking to increase my knowledge that's all...

Unfortunately I don't dabbled in profiles as I personally find them unreliable. I just stick it at a certain clock and set my govs and I/O. If you want to know my configuration, I set my clock to 1350MHz and min to 384. The gov and I/O I've already mentioned.

thanks bro, that's really informative, i think ill solve that out but once again, battery life with speed is what everyone's after, yes the M has plenty of oomph under the bonnet but clocking it down will save battery yeah?
the profiles you have set are stable enough? no random reboots or lags?
