[Q] Gapps loop - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every single time I try to restore a backup I always wipe data, cache and dalvik and then I restore the backup made with clockwormod in the clockworkmod recovery. But I always get the next message: ''Unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped'' which is very frustrating because I have to press ok everytime it appears and every time I close it, it opens again; so I can't use my phone. Also, Google Play, Dropbox, Googe partner setup and I get those messages too. I've searched for help on many sites and they keep telling me to go to apps manager and stop download manager, google play services, google framework, etc. And I managed to go to settings and do it in the only second I have between closing the message and it opening itself again. But it didn't work. Also I wiped cache and dalvik after restoring but still get the loop. The only thing I can do to stop the loop is wiping data but I don't want to lose my data (that's why I made the backup that doesn't work now). I also tried advanced restore and restored everything but data, I didn't get either the loop or the data. And when I restored only data in advanced restore I got the loop. Also I tried flashing the gapps for Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat from recovery but still got the loop. Maybe it happens because I had uninstalled most of the google apps that came as system apps using ROM ToolBox pro?

I'm getting a bunch of force close messages on Boot

I flashed cyanogen 5.0beta. It was working great.....then i went to compress cache in one of the new apps(can't remember the name) the phone reset itself about 3 times so I wiped it and restored it. Now it completely boots, but then I get a "force close" message that won't go away. If someone could help I would appreciate it.
When you wiped, did you reflash the google stuff and the cyan rom?
I tried wiping it and the re-flashing cyan but I still get the same messages. Thts the only rom I flashed
I mean after you wiped did you also flash the Google Add on supplied in Cyanogen's thread (http://www.mediafire.com/file/jmmzywtlnjd/gapps-passion-ERE27-2-signed.zip) along with the ROM after you wiped?
Also, what is force closing? Is it specific apps? If so, are they system apps are market/3rd party apps? Is it processes that are force closing?
I just wiped and reflashed cyan and then downloaded and flashed the google addon and the I rebooted just fine. now i want to see if i can restore. Plus the force close message was google startup wizard
I think I gotta start from scratch if my titanium backup failed me
Damn. Well at least it's fixed. Thanks for the help. I don't know why the google add on helped but it did.

[Q] Rebooting when uninstalling any app

As title suggests my phone reboots when uninstalling any app via google play store or settings/apps.. it soft reboots from the rom load up logo
i've tried
reinstalling the rom/gapps
wiped system/cache/dalvik
deleted google play app data
deleting accounts
using stock kernel
used diferent launchers
virus scans
removed all apps recently installed (uninstall does work, it reboots imediately on completion)
i really want to avoid wiping the data partition which is all i can think is wrong.
anybody come across this ? any ideas

Ur phone may RIP!!
I haven't come across such problem....Just wipe the cache, dalvik cache & flash the stock rom with the stock kernel.
Did you try uninstalling using titanium backup?
Does that cause reboot as well?
I gave up and formatted the data partition, I guess it got corrupted somehow or maybe a virus was responsible.
Working ok now...shrugs

[Q] Blank Black Home Screen + How Do You Uninstall Gapps?

So ive been using OmniROM 4.4 on my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-19300 for over 6-7 months now (since around 22/11/2013). It has all been working as a treat. Two nights ago something seemed to of happened on my phone and few apps disappeared (they had the green android robot logo). I was also notified that some apps have updated. I am unsure what these apps were (my guess would be the googles apps; google books, google movies etc. because they were all next to each other in alphabetical order). So because of this i decided to turn my phone off. When i turned it back on, it would be stuck on the OmniROM Logo whilst booting up. It would be stuck on this for a few hours. So I left it over night. Then the next morning it had booted up and a error message popped up saying "Stystem UID's Inconsistent" with a button saying "I'm Feeling Lucky". So I clicked the button and unlocked the phone. Then the homescreen was black and blank. There was no background image, apps, widgets etc. However, I can access the notification bar. If i had any notifications, for an example a message on kik. I can click on it and it will take me to kik and it can use it as normal. When i click the home button it takes me back to a black blank screen.
So, My first reaction was to create a nandroid backup (of the black blank screen OmniROM) then wipe everything (data/factory, cache partition and dalvik cache) in CWM Recovery v6.0.4.4. After this I restored my old nandroid backup, this is my backup i created before i moved onto OmniROM so it was the Samsung galaxy s3 stock 4.1.2. So once i did this i was again greeted with the error message saying "Stystem UID's Inconsistent" with a button saying "I'm Feeling Lucky". So i clicked the button and set up my device. During this and after this Ive had about a billion pop up error messages saying "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped." and "Google books has stopped working" and it did this for all the other google apps. So its pretty clear that it must be something to do with Gapps (Correct me if i'm wrong please). Also, It did not allow me to get anything from the play store apart from twitter and rom manager. snapchat and the google app updates didn't work (that is all i have tried). I had error messages saying that i couldnt download it. I have tried installing gapps and OmniROM again and it works but i still get the error messages saying that gapps and google apps have stopped. I have also restored by nandroid backup of the omnirom (that I did before i wiped everything) and i still get the blank black homescreen.
So, I want to know whether it is gapps that has caused this? If so what do i need to do? Do i need to unistall it and install it again? How do i do that?
All I want is to go back to OmniROM and it works and this problem wont happen again. Also if i can get all my data (apps, pictures etc.) that i saved in my nandroid back that i did when i was on OmniROM (before i wiped everything) then that would be great!
I appreciate it very much if you have read this and helped me out.
Despite you have given lots of details, you didn't specify which GAPPS package you're using. Who's the maintainer of the package? Are you sure it's for 4.4.x?
Nonetheless, get the latest PA GAPPS package. As @TKruzze says on the official thread: "We consider these apps as important as our ROM. It is sad that the ROM scene deals with so many broken/outdated or buggy packages."
Lots of issues could be caused by a messy GAPPS package or a messy recovery.
Now I suggest doing the following:
1) Take a backup of user files (pics, music, etc...) and don't take backup of app data as that could be messy or corrupted or at least take the backup of app data but don't restore it.
2) Download the latest OmniROM nightly, SuperSU and PA GAPPS (stock package seems the one for you) and check the files' MD5 after you download to be 100% sure the files aren't corrupted.
3) Download the latest official TWRP. For the love of Android, it's been stated by OmniROM developers that it's the officially supported recovery.
4) Flash TWRP and do a full wipe (system, data, cache and both SD and internal memory).
5) Do a reboot to recovery after wiping then flash the ZIP's in this order: OmniROM > PA GAPPS > SuperSU (don't flash any custom stuff or addons for now).
6) Reboot into system and restore data gradually. Install most important apps and keep on monitoring your phone for abnormalities and make sure you clean up your SD and internal memory backups from any redundant files before you get them back on the phone (there should be a "clockworkmod" folder that's not needed).
7) All should be fine now.
Notes:
1) Uninstalling GAPPS can be done by wiping the system, cache and dalvik-cache then flashing the ROM again but I didn't suggest that as the data partition is probably already messy.
2) NANDROID backups are ZIP files, you can extract them and get some data manually. You've made a NANDROID on a bad state so you can alternatively restore that before doing any of the above and selectively backup data using Titanium Backup and the files using casual methods.
Hope that helps and sorry for it being long. But such issues are hard to tackle on and you'll be better off doing a clean install.
Happy flashing!

If one more app is installed, System UI stops

Hi,
I had been using Temasek's Unofficial CM 11 ROM on my SM-N9005, then I decided to update to lollipop. So I backed up with Titanium Backup Pro, wiped data and dalvik and cache, flashed the AICP ROM, and now I'm trying to restore apps.
Restoring has been difficult in TB - it kept freezing/getting stuck on what seemed like random apps, and then it started to give me "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" messages, which reappear a few seconds after they're dismissed.
I've somehow reached the point where if I install ONE more app (no matter what it is or whether it's restored from TB or downloaded from Play Store), I get "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped", but if I uninstall it I'm fine.
I know that apps should use more space with the ART runtime, but I have ~7GB of free storage so it can't be that. It seems silly, but is there some kind of app limit in lollipop that I'm unaware of?
Thanks in advance!
Actually the most important thing is what method are you using for restore? I mean are you using the only restore missing apps method or something else? Cause if you are using a method other than that then you will have problems.

Did you take a nandroid backup? If so, Restore it after wiping then use TB to make an Apps Update.zip and copy it across to your ExtSDCard. THEN flash the ROM and GApps - i also flash SuperSU.zip at the same time. Then I start the phone and set up basic info. Then Back to Recovery and run the Apps.zip file.
I also use Nova Launcher so once in I restore the backup and Voila! I have almost everything back as I like it.
Another thing to check is the SDCardfix - you might want to download a zip of it and flash it while in Recovery. Once it is done and you are in LP version it seems OK, but I had to restore and older version of Temasek's ROM and promptly had SDCard access issues until I ran the fix again.
Thanks for your replies!
I am definitely doing "restore missing apps with data", though I am deselecting some of the apps (the very large ones) before restoring if that's an issue.
I didn't take a Nandroid backup unfortunately, I usually don't as I have no need for the data other than apps. Using an "apps.zip" sounds like an interesting approach - I might try that next time.
I'll try to work with the SD card - should I try to find and flash an LP version of SDCardFix or just use the KK one?
I tried reflashing the rom after a data, dalvik, cache, and /system wipe. Then I restored all apps, but the same problem came back, so the problem seems to be replicable.
Some people in the forums have suggested doing a "Fix permissions" in CWM, however that feature was obviously removed. There's a flashable zip that restores the feature apparently. Do you think I should try that or will it have no effect?
Thank you!

Reset phone and Google Play wont download apps

Hi all,
I have a G900I running Nougat. Recently My phone started getting slow, so I reset the phone. Here is where the issues occur, I had restored some apps and it worked for sometime but took a very long time to restore my existing apps that were installed, so I figured lets reset again and start without restoring at all.
Now the biggest issue is to get apps download at all. I can only update the existing apps that were installed. I have tried many solutions from google but no go from disabling the google play store app, clearing cache and for Google Play Services. as well. I keep on getting the Google play error of 905 and 495. I am quite stumped on how to fixed this issue.
Is there any method to fix this issue? I hope I am not resorted to root and install a custom rom to fix this issue. I have attached a screenshot of the stock rom I am running.
reset your phone from zero
i know it will take some time to configure your apps but it will fix your problems
NOTEont restore anything from google
Steps
Install TWRP
go To wipe
Advanced Wipe
NOW CHECK EVERYTHING but the external storage(must be unchecked)
swipe to wipe loool
now go to reboot menu
