I was wondering if anyone knew of any apps that have been ported to the S5 from other devices eg HTC, Motorola, LG. The reason I ask is because I hate Samsung touchwiz, the nasty green gets on my nerves so any ported apps, maybe even ROMs might help with this problem. Thanks
There are lots of ported launchers and apps. Not to mention themed S5 apps which have different colour schemes. All you have to do is search the forum and you'll find them all over the place. Not sure why you didn't try that before posting?
Enjoy
,
Well I did have a look on the fourm but couldn't really find much, maybe my search string wasn't right or something, I will try another search and see what I find
What did you try searching for? e.g. keywords or however you did the search?

I ran into this issue with my G1, and the workarounds were kludgy at best. is there any possibility of getting the HTC Dialer from say - the droid eris - on the nexus one? I had it with my g1 on the rogers rom, but lost some key functionality(for me anyways). Since the nexus one isn't carrier specific, I'm going to assume that there aren't going to be too many roms floating around.
So does anyone else feel like this is a HUGE miss on htc's part? The android dialer is 'ok', but it's so much easier to dial the first 2 or 3 letters of someone's first and last name and have it pop up in a list rather than go to my favorite tabs and scroll up and down looking for who i want to call.
Granted, this is google's baby, so it's free of outside software, but come one. They can't honestly think the shipped android dialer is better...could they?
I'd love to hear someone chime in and say that they've got it running, but seeing as how the htc frameworks are rooted incredibly deep into the os, i'll assume that's a no-go. I'll settle for some feedback though. Does anyone miss this feature?
No, the android 2.1 dialer is way better than HTC's version.
Tip: You can search for users in the general search tool. Just press the search button, and start typing the name. A lot faster than browsing through the contact list.

Superdial doesn't work on 2.1 either
I'd been using the free app superdialer from the market for this same functionality. Unfortunately it isn't working with the 2.1 contacts list quite yet
t9 contact search on the dialer itself is indispensable. I don't know why this isn't part of the stock dialer.

Better ? And in which way because I can't see it ?
Try StarContact
I agree with the OP. I don't understand why Google doesn't offer T9 support on the default dialer. It is in my top 5 frustrations with Android.
That said, I've been using StarContact (in the market) since it first came out for the G1. It works on the Nexus as well. The HTC dialer is still better, and I loved it when I had the Rogers rom on my G1. Too bad that rom stopped at 1.5.
spelldial from market works with 2.1 now and is amazing.
Start asking your questions in the right sub-forum (Q&A) (Theme) or even in (General), or simply search.......This isn't a developmental subject, Thank you.
Final result will be a ban for you up too 3 days.
If you persist on posting in wrong forums.
Thread Trashed!!
Rule that apply:
1. Search before posting
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
Some questions just keep popping up over and over. Please use the 'search function with google' in the menu above each and every page in the forum.
its still here lol
yup. missing that t9 capability that's nice in the htc dialer... the android one seems rather empty of features...
I'm getting really sick of all of the people who won't post their questions in the right forum. Also, I'm sick of people asking how to get HTC proprietary apks to work on the Nexus. If I can get a dump of a sense UI on 2.0 or later with the right screen resolution I will port it. Until then, you can't get HTC apps to work on the Nexus. So quit asking, please.

What he said.
Also, turn off "Web Search" and "Music" in settings for the Google Search
widget, and you'll have a very fast, handy way of getting into contacts from
the home screen. Turning off "Web Search" only turns off Web Suggestions btw.
Type in whatever you want and hit enter and it'll take you to the browser.
PS: Yes, this is the wrong section, but this had to be said
Well I think a ban is a bit harsh. It would take less time to just move the thread and close it vs posting a huge post... which can be equally wasteful. Being a new upcoming N1 owner and new to Android, all of this is new to me as well. I think the Development forum would be accurate IMO.
Anyway. Good thing this thread wasn't deleted because it has some useful information. My neighbor has a N1 and it was one thing that I noticed it lacked. SpellDial looks like a good fix until Google adds this functionality in the stock dialer. Also, good info on the Google Search options, I'll try that too.
An app called dial one brings this. It's free in the market and works excellent.
It's Dialer One and it rocks

Great app indeed
is there one?
i just know cyanogen and i heard about "blacky´s rom" but could not find it via google.
thx vm
kws
You won't get an answer here.
You really should just Google it.
There is no list. There is no one collection of these MODS.
I don't know if you are referring to MODS, as those coders/hackers that MODify Android, or if you are looking for MODifications to android.
Either way, you are asking for one helluva long ass list if you think one exists.
There are literally thousands of MODifications you can do to an android device.
There literally hundreds of android MODifiers/coders/hackers/developers, etc.
yes indeed,
i ment MODifications of android. but not just modifications but roms.
i just wrote 'mods' because cyanogen call their product 'mod'.
and i did google it. especially 'blacky', about which i heard some time ago.
but i could not find anything. when i google 'android mod' 90% of the results
are about cyanogenmod. the rest is something totally different.
and i think if you would take just the notable (means with a certain amount
of developer activity) roms/mods, the list would not be too long.
but anyway, thanx. i will bite my way through.
have a nice one
kws
Suggestion. Put rom manager on your phone and play
Sent from my EVO with CM7 and honeybread
Compile a list yourself and post it?
It is clear that custom roms are new to you. I only recently flashed my first custom rom but I think I can be more helpful than some people are choosing to be.
I wouldnt get a rom from google. You dont really know its source and often have no one to contact about issues/suggestions. I think the safest option if to go to the subforum on this site that is specific for your phone. Then click on Android Development Forum. In there you will probably have threads for all the major roms such as CyanogenMod, Revolution, LeeDroid, CoreDroid. These are all being constantly improved and you can also report bugs to help future development. Best advantage is they usually have specific instructions for that rom.
Good luck!
So I had a little idea. Ive seen a lot of people asking for updates to our note 10.1 also a lot of us have interests in pac, cm11, etc... so I thought it could be interesting to talk about how or if there is anyway possible to get our fave apps working on these roms.
Of course it would be totaly hypothetical as touchwiz and snote are all proprietary apps and even if we woild solve the questions we could NEVER publish a rom anyway but couldnt it be an interesting discussion as to if it can be done and how it could be done...
I'm no developer by a long shot but its something I'm interested in learning about...
So what are your thoughts, opinions etc...
I know it is great having having a plethora of ROMs available for the S7 Edge and S7 but with the many ROMs out there they all seem similar to one another with minor differences. I know creating a new ROM is hard, (congrats to Fevax for cracking Lineage) but other then that, it seems like 'oh another version of the wheel', I know people do this as a hobby and I can't tell people to stop, however try do something original like possible do a Port of Lg or One plus.
I know people will say, if I want a lg port I should get a lg phone, or porting isn't easy and I should do of myself, but with the many talented people on this forum, why can't something like this happen.
Get a LG. Or make your own ROM. Or stop your ungrateful whining.
Big man behind the keyboard
1. Did you even read my question
2. Samsung has one of the best build quality of any phones, that's why I go to Samsung
3. What is so bad about asking for something if you are willing to pay
4. What ever happened to having a discussion on why it wouldn't work
5. So just because I have a sumsung, I can't see what a LG or HTC might operate like;
what you are saying is like;
If you want AOSP get a Nexus or a Pixel, Samsung is only TW
or you use a Mac and you want to use Windows or Linux on your device to, get a different computer for each OS.
6. I was asking for a service and I didn't push No Developers to do it.
So just because you sit behind a keyboard and belittle new members who just want answers to questions, makes you feel better then good luck to you for getting a insignificant win today.
New ideas come from everywhere, I didn't post this on an existing forum because I was asking a question, which forums are made for.
I will say you won't care what I wrote and will do a keyboard warrior tantrum.
I have been on this forum since Galaxy S1 and yes I haven't created an account until now but I didn't need to.
I do support the developers when something innovate arrives like AOSP working on the S7 or the few modded ROMs show up.
Just like any customer, you ask if something new is in the works and not expected to be called ungrateful.

To be fair you do sound like you are whinging. You never mentioned paying someone and never made a request for aROM, you just moaned that there is what you see as a lack of creativity.
You haven't asked developers for anything. You just moaned that you aren't getting what you want.
Perhaps you meant something else but worded it wrong, but I don't think your post will go down well to be honest as it just seems like a flame toward the hard working devs on XDA.

1. Yes.
2. Me too.
3. Where did you say you were "willing to pay"?
4. No discussion to be had. Devs make ROMS and make them available as they see fit. Their work, their time.
5. Not saying that at all. Like.
6. Sweet way of "asking for a service" you have. Telling devs their work is "another version of the wheel" will really endear you to them.
Didn't know you were new, nor do I care. My answer would have been the same.
As @riso123 suggests - you come over as a moaner. If that's not your intention, choose your words better.
There are so many choices and I am a bit overwhelmed on what I should use. I have the Note 3 SM-N900W8 version, this phone is for my dad. I just want a simple android environment that would be Google certified(if that's a thing) so he can use apps that do not like root like Netflix. I was hoping something that is similar to base android 6 or later, I have no idea which roms would work that would be simple to use. I was hoping something like what I would use on my Nexus 6p called Pure Nexus, but obviously, it's for that phone only but would have been perfect. The current one he uses is always giving him trouble when updating apps with security options that he never has any idea what to do, so I get stuck having to do it for him. Sorry that I am all over the place with this post, but hopefully someone understands and knows what would be good. Thanks
See multiple identical what rom best rom posts .
ROM descriptions are posted .
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development

I would suggest if its for somebody else and you don't know what you are doing/ cannot read rom descriptions then stick with stock rom .
Yes I am very aware of those pages, I was just hoping from someones experience, if anyone has come across something similar to Pure Nexus. I know how to install and all that stuff. Starting to feel it was a mistake to post this thread...

It is hard to say what your need for a rom are. Every one uses there devices diffrently. What works great for me might not be good for you. And viseversa. There are never stupid or dumb questions. Even though it has been asked many times over. Best advice is to search and read and try each of them to see what fits your needs.
Btw i have at&t so I am limited on what roms I can use as I have a locked bootloader.
