Hello everyone. Today I revisited my galaxy s4 from my g2. I was listening to music and there was some noticeable hiss.
It was very apparent in low volumes and I was wondering if anybody else has this problem. For example, play a quiet song on the 1 notch for volume on some earbuds. Listen and tell me if you have hissing.
If you do.
I found a fix.
First. Try listening for the hiss on the 1st volume notch.
If you have it.
Go into the stock music player. Press the menu button and click settings.
in the settings menu. Click adapt sound and turn it off.
that should fix any problems.
That worked for me.
But. That was on my original s4.
I got a refurb from assurion because my original was destroyed.
Now I have a hiss no matter what. Even with adapt sound off. It was never on in the first place.
So, guys, tell me, does your s4 hiss???

FWhile listening to music through earphones the music sounds fine. But today I connected it to aux on my friends car stereo and you could your hear a loud hiss. An iphone 5 and htc one were fine so its not the car stereo.
The other issue is that today when I unlocked my phone I sometimes had a weird screen distortion before the homescreen was visible.
Wondering if anybody else encountered the same issues
2 different volume types
What probably happened was the volume on your S4 was set low, which resulted in you turning your car speakers up. When this happens, you get a lot more of a static sound. make sure the volume on your phone is turned up enough next time
I don't have an S4 or know about your other problem; sounds pretty weird though. Probably just a bug.

Its a known issue when using low impedance headphones or devices. Check here:

Ilabs i just checked out the other thread and i think my problem with the sound is off different nature. The hiss sounds like a high pitch tone and it only starts to appear when I click on play and even remains when I click on stop. Only unplugging the cable helps.

Probably a one time incident, haven`t had it myself so far. If it should happen more often do a data factory reset.

The first unit I had made a fairly audible hissing sound but after a "PAB" replacement, I haven't noticed it yet.
As a comparison, my laptop does make a slight hissing sound, my iPod shuffle 2nd gen makes a very loud hissing sound, my iPad is the same as my i9505 while my old i9000 does make a hissing sound that is a more audible than my laptop, but not to the extent of my iPod.

Just found a weird issue with my priv, when using my ear buds the volume randomly will go all the way to zero by its self, and when I try to increase the volume it fights me and goes down while I'm trying to turn it up. The brand of headphones is skullcandy and I have 2 pairs that do the same thing. I tried some samsung ones and they didn't have the problem but they sound worse and do not get nearly as loud. I need them loud because when I play my drums I need to hear the music which I can't with the Samsung ones. Anyone else have this issue? I would hate to have to buy new ones as i like the ones I already have.

Interesting...could it be that the connector on your new headphones is different from the samsung one? Also have you tried this pair of headphones on another phone?
It really sounds like the headphones have a button that's stuck on them. I haven't come across this issue with my priv yet.... Have you tried using the headphones with another device and see if they do the same thing?
Hi,
I am facing the same issue without headphones. I really have to fight to increase the volume and then after few seconds it automatically decrease it,
What should I do?
Hi guys,
I bought this phone two days ago and i think its a very good phone. One thing though, i find the speaker low volume, and when i try changing notification sound, some music gives a bit crackling/distorting sound.
then i try changing the Alarm, the title "Morning Flower" gives a bit crackling sound too.
Note that i only set the volume to 70%, and the crackling is already there.
I try the same music title on my friend Galaxy J7 prime, and his speaker does not produce any crackling sound and its louder.
The crackling sound only happen if i play piano sound or high pitch musics, but its strange with samsung default music it gives the crackling sound. Other normal non high pitch default songs plays good without crackling/ distortion.
Is it a known issue to this model or its just a speaker defect?
Thanks

Its for sure a defect bro i recommend getting it replaced.
*****NOTE*****:google search about the pixel soind bug and it had the same crackling problem as you said with A 2017 i use a pixel xl and after a few updates the pixel sound bug was solved by google so the main thing is that the cracling can be because of hardware or software but i recommend checking and replacing since it is costly phone. Also tell me the replacement unit has the same issue.

After comparing it 1 - 1 with demo unit on the store, i can confirm its the speaker defect. Demo unit sounds perfect with no crackling sound.
I have contacted samsung, and they have arranged a replacement unit in 3 weeks, i'll report back the result. :good:

Hello. I'm Korean
I have the same problem with the same model. (Korea SK Telecom SM-A520S)
Samsung Service Center says no such problem has been reported
Was the problem resolved after repairing the speakers?
I'm really annoyed by the problem I haven't experienced before....

Hi! I just got my replacement unit yesterday, and here as promised i report back the result.
I'm not asking samsung to repair it, i demand a replacement unit because i just bought it not even a week that day.
The replacement unit does not have such issue, my speaker is now running good no crackling and no distortion. I suggest you ask the SSC guy and compare it directly with demo units.
At first the samsung center representative also said the same, no such issues, he couldnt hear the crackling. But after i asked him to compare it directly with available demo units, he then realized there's some problem with the speaker.
I suggest you ask for a replacement unit. Good luck!
