You're opening the tar file at that point. If it says it's an invalid size or something you're extracting to far. If you download a .7z or .zip just right click it and hit extract. You should end up with a .tar or .md5. That is what you will select in Odin.
If there is power (lights, partial boot) it is not bricked. A bricked phone is completely dead. Your phone is soft-bricked.
The advice above is correct. Stop when you get to .tar and put it somewhere you know where it is to put in the PDA slot in Odin.
And please follow forum rules and post your question once and wait for an answer. Do not make more threads for the same problem. Thanks.

You have to flash it as "One Package". Tick on "One package", "Reboot" and "Protect ops". Then select the ops file(apollo_0531.ops) and the .tar file which you downloaded in the required fields. And then flash.
A detailed tutorial is given here.
if you haven't already flashed remove boot.bin and sbl.bin from the tar file (if they are there)!!!
I looking for updated roms (with no operator customisations) for s5360b but all the latest versions comes with corrupted tar files and I'm unable to extract the files.
Tried to repair the tar file with no success either.
7zip/winrar latest versions unable to decompress it...
There is another way or my sources are bad?
Maybe download didn't get complete.. Try again..

they are not corrupt. their headers are such that you cant see or extract the files inside. only flash them in odin in pda section or if you want files then use splitfus2 by doky73

I tried to flash them directly but got an error, that's why I'm trying to decompress it. I just downloaded it many times always getting the same results.
I'll try to use a 2.3.5 release and then update it with Kies. I didn't tried using another country's rom afraid of modem file incompatibility issues, I'll do some more tests

Well first of all sorry for being late, seems you haven't resolved your problem or have you? If not, then I wanna suggest you something here. I've also faced a situation like .tar file corruption in my past and resolved it successfully, believe me. How did you try to repair the .tar file? Did you use any third-party application like a repair or recovery software? I also used a third-party recovery application named as SysInfoTools Archive Recovery, to repair my corrupt .tar files. I had two very important .tar files which were corrupted, don't know why. Then I came to know about this application and used it. Though it didn't execute a hundred percent recovery, but I was quite satisfied to recover my maximum data from those corrupt .tar files. I will recommend you check its free demo version first. If it shows your preview of your recovered data, this means the data has been successfully recovered from the corrupt file. You can download the demo of this software from sysinfotools' website.
If this application helps you, please let me know.
Regards.

Hi, I have a stock rom in format tar.md5. I want to split in three, modem.tar.md5 , pda.tar.md5 and csc.tar.md5 to upload archive modem.tar.md5 THROUGH odin.
It doesn't work that way, it will fail md5 checks, however if you want to pick and choose what gets flashed I suggest Mobile Odin from the play store which allows you to choose which IMGs are flashed.
If you don't want to choose, and flash everything, you just need to put the .tar.md5 into the PDA field and flash away.

Modem is not a tar file its a bin.
You would be better reading the faqs and guides first .

Your best bet will be to find a flashable zip of the correct modem file, we have a list in the index thread, but that doesn't have the most recent ones.
Also are you sure it's a modem issue, you could have corrupted your /efs, cross reference your imei against what it says on the back of the phone or on the box. also is your phone able to register on the network.
I want to root my Galaxy Note 3 with Odin. But my pc doesn't recognize the MD5 file that I need to do this. (I use a version of Odin with "PDA" button.) I have installed multiple programs that say that they can read/recognize MD5 files, but none of them work.
I have still windows XP and you know the picture of an unrecognized file. Can't post a picture of that.
Which program does recognize a MD5 file so I can root my Note 3? Or who knows a solution to solve this?
I almost bricked my phone.
Got this:
RECOVERY BOOTING...
RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING
Set Warranty Bit: recovery
PS English is not my main language.
Why are you trying to get any program other than ODIN to recognise the md5 file?

Try renaming the md5 file to tar and see how it goes.

Windows recognizing the file has nothing to do with bricking your phone, the two systems are not even related... md5 is an ODIN file. You don't need windows to extract, mount or read it. It's not a Windows file....
I think you need to realize that Windows and Android do not share file systems. You don't need to be able to read an .md5 or .apk or .obb on Windows to use it on Android. It's an unknown file format because Windows has no use for it.
You just need to browse to the .tar or .md5 file in Odin --> PDA. Nothing more, you don't need to extract or read it. That's ODIN's job.
You also need to search for the error you got. There's about 500 threads on it, with the solution. Start with this one, for instance: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2622254 It has nothing to do with windows.

Why did it get wrong when I have everything as in the video that I followed? Why did I get a blue box instead of a yellowbox in Odin? Why did I get the Seandroid enforcing warning when I put the md5 file in Odin and hit start? Why is my phone still not rooted and has Knox 0x1?
Download the right file, 4.3 or 4.4. Everything else has been said already.

I am not the search bar, nor am I Google.com....
That post from XDA is not working for me. I don't have Kitkat and I don't have CWM.
If I put the MD5 file into Odin (at the PDA button) the options are greyed out. I can't change them. Auto reboot is checked, even as F reset time. I can't uncheck that. The video says I must uncheck that. And the box doesn't get yellow, but blue.
Can you show me wich tutorial you followed ?

I can't post links. But it is the youtube video from Qbking77 (Tim Schofield) "How to root the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 [All variants]"
And is it nessacary to offence (hurt) me?? No its not, thank you.
I have an Odin working with open options (not greyed out), but in that Odin he can't find the MD5 file anymore. Grrrrrr, i'm so sick of this.
Can it be that when I dial *#1234# I only get AP / CP / CSC instead of PDA / PHONE (and CSC)?
Will it work with a Odin who has BL / AP / CP and CSC? And in that Odin variant: where do I have to put the MD5 file?

AP.... But it should work on any version of ODIN... I tend to use cf-autoroot with ODIN 1.85 and that works well....

I have not proper root acces says Root checker basic.
I have a problem with opening Odin v1.85 like in the link ("How to Root Galaxy Note 3!" from galaxynote3root dot com). The user I'm on will not work while I am on my Administrator account. And another user will not work either.
YEEEEESSSSS!!!! I have done it!!!
My phone is stuck on firmware on "upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
I tried Kies 3 and it doesn't recognise the phone. I tried different firmwares the invalid .4ext error and says the file too big 475000 < 512000 something among those lines. I read that I will need to re-partition the memory with .PIT file for the note 4, which is no where to be found on google. I hope someone will be kind enough to extract the .PIT file from their phone and post it here.
Cheers,
Mus

I had the same problem. All i did was use Odin to put TWRP on my phone and it booted back up.
N910F
I tried many way nothing happen i cant use odin fail in everything i try to flash with rom or recovery. and now phone keep restarting and i cant wipe data?? anything i add or delete after restart go back like before like nothing happen?????
Guys I tried flash latest Sweden and have same problem size too big and ext4 failed, then I flash Philz recovery and voila phone booted everything its ok!!!
If you download a stock Samsung ROM, remove the .md5 from the end of it, and then extract the archive, you should find the PIT file in there.
I've not had to do it myself, because I'm using an S4 at the moment and was able to get a PIT file download on its own. So I can't verify 100% that it will be there, but I read it in a thread somewhere that it is.
Give it a try..

i hv same problem. but after instaling all samsung recovery.tar via odin it stuck on start up showing "android is not seandroid recovery."
