A question about the hardware - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I just had a bad start using the galaxy s4. Just a week after I bought the device, the motherboard got whacked and I couldn't connect to wifi and my unit gets hot without actually using it. Now that I got the mobo replaced, my question is this: I have a semi fit pants, so whenever I put my s4 on my pocket, it is a little bit tight, but not too much. Does it affect the motherboard in the long run through this condition?

It might. The screen gets affected too but in the long run and after to daily use.
Sammy is not that durable.
Press Thanks if I helped

Goodbye Vibrant board

My vibrant gave up the ghost 2 days ago. Turned itself off and now it won't fully boot without turning itself off unless I leave it undisturbed on a table.
Something on/under the ringer/speaker is loose or corroded, because tapping on that part of the phone makes it cut itself off.
Been using a Galaxy Tab as my phone for the past day and a half. Galaxy Nexus should arrive at home this afternoon.
Goodbye vibrant and Bionix. I would have liked to keep you as a media player, but I guess it is not to ever be. You worked well... except for your wonky GPS and tendency to 'forget' custom ring tones for contacts.... and your shrinking battery life (I have 4 spare batteries).... and taking 2 minutes to read the SD cards during boot up.... but you sure had a nice screen.
You could still use it as a media player. Odin it back to stock then flash a rom. There's one that's design just for that.
You said when you tap it on the side it cuts its self, do you mean it shuts down?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk 2
When I tap it on the back surface of the phone, close to the top (basically where the ringer/speaker-phone is) then it shuts itself off (power goes off)
Other things can cause it to shut off, but that seems to be the problem area.
you may can fix it
well, if you have a soldering iron and a oven proceed, if not but you want to fix it go and buy one.
**Do it only as last resource and if you dont have an soldering station.**
take out the board of you vibrant, solder a small piece of any wire you have on an insignificant par of the board (like the gold border around it) put the board in the oven nearly at 200ÂșC and wait a bit of time till the solder you have done got liquid an the wire goes down.Turn off the oven and let the door open in order to cool ,wait till it got fresh enough to test.
Be happy!
Obs.:the board will get damage if you let it got more hot than necessary.
Good luck!
Are you suggesting that I connect the board to an electrical ground?
Did you have insurance on the phone? If so I'd get it replaced and then sell the new phone.

No. Phone insurance is mostly a rip off unless you lose it in the first ~4 months of ownership.
It was worth a shot.
I have it on mine, but I wonder what they would replace it with on a claim if I was to break it since they stopped selling the vibrant quite a while ago.

no, only to you resolder you board without the full equipment needed.
Sorry for my bad english, it's not my natural language.
***BUT, if you still on warranty, wipe all, odin a stock rom and let they replace your phone.
Could you sell it for parts? I'm in need of a few vibrant parts at the moment.

[Q] Galaxy S4 completely dead?

The Galaxy S4 of a friend of mine fell some time ago, but still worked perfectly after the drop.
After a few days the phone died.
The S4 doesn't boot and doesn't show charging logo when connected to power.
I also tried putting another battery in it and I checked the insides. (nothing out of the ordinary)
Does someone know what's wrong with the phone or what steps I can take?

You can try a jtag to see if it gonna boot.If it didn't then the phone is already dead.

Mine dropped twice already , once accidently while taking it out from my pucket while drunk and the next time falling from a table, no issue till now, guess was lucky
Any ways unless it doesn't get wet its possible to fix if u take it to the right place or u may get a replacment if there are no sign for an impact or havey scratch and u have valid warranty good luck

I had that too when i wass on stockrom 4.2.2
Now i have rooted my phone and installed phantomron V5,
Untill now it isn't happend again but i'm not sure it's gone.
Yes, I have the same problem. Mine also restarts if the phone gets pressed inside jeans pocket.
I tried inserting some padding in battery compartment but no help.
Very irritating.

In fact it does restart when I have it in my jeans pocket if I bend my legs specially when entering in a vehicle.
I'll try to insert some padding on my sim card since I had to cut it to fit and that could make it sag when there is an impact on the phone.
If it doesn't work I guess I'll just have to live with that annoyance, thank God the phone boots up fast otherwise it would be a greater nightmare.
Thanks
When Samsung adopted RoHS there was grave loss in the quality of soldering. Note2 is the victim of modern standards.

Oh boy, now I'm definitely switching over to the 5.5 inch iPhone at the end of the year if there will be one...
Guys, this shouldn't have anything to do with your ROM if it's caused by physical shock to the device - it's your battery not making good contact in your phone. You need to check that.

On my phone the battery seems pretty tight plus the phone has been always inside a SEIDIO hard case, but I will see if I can make it more secure in place.
For me this problem kept getting more and more often. Even I tried case mate tough case. That didn't help either. Finally I just exchanged the phone for N5.

do i9506 and i9505 have same displays?

hello,
today i gave my i9506 in repair for changing display unit. the man in the shop i gave it to said that there is no difference between i9506 and i9505 when repairing the display and they will build the i9505 into it. but i read somewhere that there is a small difference. do you know about that? because i am confused now and scared that they will break my device

Hey
If I were you, I would contact Samsung support by mail or phone and ask them if this statement is true. I could believe it's possible, but again you never know when it comes to Samsung. They could have changed a little bit...
Regards.

Done. The Support couldnt give me an answer on my question.. I will see what happens.
U can compare the devices on different internet sites and u will see that there is NO difference between those displays
well, there might be no difference, but actually, yes there was ! o:
i got it back yesterday, and it worked for 1.5 hours with restarting whole time and than it was dead and didnt boot normal or into recovery or download mode.
Now they have to reapair it better.. with i9506 display that will work 100%

yes.. they have differences.. if you control the codes on the seller sites you can see that they are different and incompatibles. it seems also that i9506 is a little brighter and larger. anyway the product codes are different
Hello.
So? Is there any happy ending?
I have changed display from i9505 too. and Phone is hanging, turning off and overheating...
Im interested if this is because of different display or because phone was wet when damaged display...
update: removed Antenna + Loudspeaker. phone still hot. but works now. So i do not believe that it is because of screen....

hey, nice to hear that it might not be the screen, for me the result is still unknown. My device was not working after letting them put i9505 display in it. It worked for quite an hour, than it restarted very very often and suddenly it didnt do anything at all. No Download mode or recovery mode too.
The shop said, that the software was completely deleted for no reason. but they flashed the firmware again but the problem with rebooting and after all having a "dead" device was still there. Now they are trying to find whats cauing this problem, and the will send it to samsung if they dont have a plan what it could be ( but i definetly know, that it has to do something with the screen, because earlier, befrore the display change, EVERYTHING worked fine!).
Im so excited how it will end, and especially, who is going to pay, if samsung has to repair what the shop has done wrong
Its really interesting....
I think they could break something when disassembling screen... It was quite difficult to remove some flexible cables as they were stick to screen.
If you have Samsung warranty then you can take only to Samsung dealers to repair, otherwise you loose warranty. That's how it is in my country.
update: My s4 was dead for half a day. but now fully working. have already flashed recovery and rooted... works like a charm
(it were restarting sometimes, after rooting restarts somehow have stopped)

finally i think (and i hope) i got a solution. Thex have ordered a i9506 display unit and finally understood that theyve done something wrong. now they will try to fix it and see if the fault was caused by the screen or not ^^ in some days i will now more
Well after trying to learn a bit about difference between i9505 and i9506 and shv-e330s i came to a conclusion that they might be the same device if samsung didnt magically decide to complicate things. I9505 and i9506 have different hardware and their displays are obviously not interchangeable. But, nowhere on the entire frickin internet was i able to understand is i9506 actually shv-e330s. Or are their screens compatible. So i asked samsung like this:
Hello! I would like to ask is there a possibility to replace a broken display on SHV-E330S S4. My father purchased the phone in South Korea and brought it to Croatia, but the phone fell and broke the LCD display. I am trying to find the display for SHV-E330S but I cant find any on the internet. My questions are - can I order a replacement display from Samsung directly? Or can I use the display for i9506 S4? They seem to be same variations regarding hardware inside, except for the DVB tuner antenna for SHV-E330S. Thank You in advance for Your answer.
Their response was just that they cant offer service outside of korea and that they are very sorry. Havent even mentioned the question about i9506 and shv-e330s.
So there ya go. You got shv-e330s outside korea? No help.
different screens
Hello there,
yes it is a different screen
I suppose it is interchangeable because I9500 or I9505 screen (I can't remember exactly) is working fine on my phone. BTW, I got the part and replaced by myself.
But, please note if they replaced your front panel as well, probably your MB was damaged. The front panel is a different one.

Hey,
Yes there seems to be a problem, at least you cannot use a i9506 screen on a i9505 Phone.
Seems to be a Problem with the connector, because the screen works until somewhat applies too much force on the conector (not much, just a tip with the finger is enough), like the backcase does when it is clipped back on. So the connectors might differ on the on the models. Hope this helps someone.

I sanded down the raised metal bit on the right of the motherboard mounting area. It fits almost but I have that pressure issue. Do you have more info so I can figure out what connector is pushed

S8 overheated after shuting down

I decided on packing up my s8 and use it later.
I charged it up to a 100(shutdown) at 4:30 used it for a bit and then shut it down kept it back in the box.
Around 7:00 i took it out to extract the sim card but when i took the phone out it was so hot that I couldnt hold it so i put it next to the AC.
My question why it overheated and if I have harmed the battery how do I check the harm done?
Unrooted s8 g950fd
What else harm has ovverheating done to my phone?

Cause a phone that is powered off should not get warm, let alone get so hot you can't touch it. You have a serious hardware defect that is likely very dangerous. Perhaps you've heard of the Note 7?
Words right out of my mouth , You can't touch it ???? Something is Really wrong
You sure it didn't get turned on by accident, overheated then shut off?
There's always that possibility the power button got pressed while it was in the box. Cuz there was no air flow in the box, the heat got trapped in.
Still sounds unlikely so to be on the safe side return the device and get it swapped for one that isn't faulty.
