SM-N9005 Downgrade 4.4.2 to 4.3 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I have been searching everywhere in order to know how to downgrade from 4.4.2 back to 4.3.
However, all posts were telling that once we have updated to 4.4.2....there is no way on downgrading.
So,even the Samsung center can't help me to downgrade too?
Because Im thinking to go over Samsung center to downgrade if they can really do so.

you have a big risk to brick your phone
I read somewhere that someone do it but everywhere it's recommand and it said that after upgrade to KK, no way back

Won't happen. The only way to downgrade a snapdragon based note 3 is to replace the mainboard with one that has not yet seen kitkat.
Sent from my leanKernel 3.4 powered stock 4.4.2 (NF4) SM-N900T

hell...i juz received the 4.4.2 update and start facing so many issues especially the sd card file permission..
It did hav solution but require root..so i thaught maybe reverting to previous version will do..
But now, my note 3 is hopeless and wondering if samsung will release a fix for this ;-(

Well, It can happen now. It may be a little too late for many who might have moved on to newr phone by now. But as a new n9005 owner I struggled hard to downgrade to 4.3 without any issues. So by trial and error I managed to do it taking cues from the original post in another thread. My reason for the downgrade was better battery life. But that did not happen after downgrade. AT least not in a significant way.. Anyway here's my strategy in summary for those who want to downgarde to 43 with no issues. It worked for me. IMEI ok, video recording ok. But I give no guarantee for others. I am not allowed to provide links so will just provide enough clues to loacte them.
Here's what I did:
Again to remind use this is to downgrade N9005 FROM 4.4.2 TO 4.3
The starting point is 4.4.2 rom version N9005XXUGNG1. I had N9005XXUGNG1_VFGGNH1 if you have Android 5.0 first downgrade to this
1. Do A Wipe Data Factory Reset and cache partition
2. Odin: Flash In AP the file "COMBINATION_FA43_N9005XXUGNH1_N9005OXAGNH1_267031 2_REV00_user_mid_noship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5."
3. Odin: Flash In AP a JB compatible cwm/twrp (look up in this forum) recovery for N9005
5. Boot into Recovery and do a Data/Cache/Dalvik wipe
6. Install in recovery Omega Rom 4.0 for N9005 JB 4.3 (N9005_Omega_v4.0_XXUDMJ7_md5_A7256B2A7F2E7005A65A 6E1CA5EA77C9.zip
7. Done! you will be running a fully working Jelly Bean 4.3 ROM!
Search google for the download links for the required files in 2 and 6. I got them form google search

Thanks InSenex! Would it be possible to flash a _stock_ 4.3.x ROM after the procedure described by you? Omega is a custom ROM, or am I mistaken?

Omega is custom rom.

Its a stock based touchwiz custom rom. Its tweaked stock rom. Its not a custom rom like cm, aosp, aokp etc. Those wishing to desperately downgrde to 4.3 probably would not care about tweaked stock rom or original stock rom

Omega is STOCK based touchwiz tweaked rom. I believe you can make it a pure stock rom by stripping off all the optmizations/tweaking done to it, replacing deleted stocke files from an extracted stock rom, or flash a cwm/twrp flashable jelly bean stock rom (Not sure if it exists, but there are guides on how to make a flashable stock rom)

Original question answered correctly .
<Omega is a custom ROM, or am I mistaken? >
Its a custom rom .
Based on Samsung firmware yes .
Thats why its in Android Development section .

downgrade official lollipop to official kitkat 4.4?

Has anyone successfully downgrade official lollipop 5.0 to official kitkat 4.4? How? Is it safe to do it? Please help [emoji38]
I am quite sure a lot of people have gone back to KitKat from Lollipop, including me. In the course of last one week I have flashed Lollipop at least six times and came back to KK each time. So yes, downgrading is absolutely problem free.
Thank you devil

I would save all your personal data to the PC desktop. Wipe everything ( twice ), and then do a factory reset. Now odin flash back to whatever version of KK OS you want to run. Make sure you use a complete stock .tar firmware ( system/modem/bootloader ) from xda or sammoblie has them. Once you flash back to stock, odin flash it again to make sure everything installs. Then root and reinstall your data. If you do a lot of flashing from lollipop to KK, your going to have to take out the trash every once in while for lack of better words. I do a lot of flashing and end going back to bone stock about once a week, this helps from corrupting vital programs like efs. So in other words there is no magic pill. For more info click my signature the versions of KK might be different but the procedure is the same.

Downgrading official lollipop (XEO) to Kitkat (BTU)
Hello Note 3 users. I would like to ask (maybe someone already tried) to downgrade official (not leaked one with bugs as was mentioned) lollipop to kitkat? My phone originally had BTU kitkat, but I wanted to test lollipop and downloaded one from sammobile (XEO). Flashed as it was described in Sammobile website, everything went well. Rom is working well, but gps takes ages to fix, and only a few satellites. They are always lost while driving. Because of this reason I would like to come back to BTU kitkat again (get gps working normally again and receive future OTA updates). Can I flash Kitkat like it's described in sammobile? Wouldn't I mess the bootloader or something? (XEO Lollipop to BTU Kitkat)
I successfully downgraded from Samsung's official 5.0 to 4.4.2. I wiped the phone first in recovery. Then flashed using Odin version 3.09.
My Note 3 is an SM-N9005.
After receiving the 5.0 update yesterday for my Note 3 (product code XSI) and not liking it very much I will be downgrading again. At least the newer build in the XSI ROM seems more stable than the BTU ROM I tried before but I will still downgrade. One of my favourite apps, Delayed Lock, isn't working on 5.0.

[Q] Need help on ROM upgrade

I have a Sprint, Samsung Galaxy S-4 running a Stock Rooted version of Android 4.2.2 (MDL). I'd like to upgrade to basically a Stock Rooted Android Kit Kat, with KNOX and the kit kat SD writing restrictions both turned off.
Lollipop would be better, but I don't think that's out yet for Sprint, is it?
Can someone help point me to the right files I need to upgrade? Do I need anything else besides the ROM, such as a kernal, modems, or anything else?
I'm getting a little lost in wading through all of the different ROMs and Upgrades.
thanks

There are two or three stock 4.4 ROMs in the android section that are great. I have used them several times. There are a few Lollipop roms as well that work really well. If you want stock 4.4, there is a download for that which you flash with Odin, you can then root and add what you want to it. You can also get it from Sammobile. I do not normally run CM only because other roms have had options I wanted but the CM ROM in the Original Android section is really good. There is a GPE port from the i9505 rom as well that is pretty good. It has a few superficial problems that you can fix if you follow the instructions in the posts. In other words, there are several Lollipop roms and the KK rom in this forum. Take your pick.
Will this thread do what I want?

Cannot install any Custom ROMs after root sm-N910f

Hi all, this is my first ever post so please bear with me!
I have a Note 4 sm-910f. I rooted recently and have the latest TWRP installed. I have tried to install a number of ROMs but:
If I install AOSP based I get a "Failed" error and a note to say that the ROM is not the correct one for the device - it seems to get my device wrong too?!
If I install a Touchwiz ROM such as NoteX it appears to flash OK but it just keeps bootlooping upon restart.
Any ideas? Could it be anything to do with the modem or bootloader? I'm currently on stock 5.0.1.
Any help greatly appreciated!
Cheers

Hi, thanks for the quick response.
I did mean X-note. I have tried a number of other ROMs too, Aliance - Emotion Revolution.
Right now I tried flashing a new bootloader/modem as per this ROM "http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/rom-robomix-t3069298" but now I'm stuck in a complete bootloop!!
I think I need to get the correct bootloader and/or modem - I just don't have a clue why or what is what. I an't find any guides!

i9505 can not flash any stock firmware

Hello good pleople
So i got a Galxy S4 with lollipop and it was kinda bloated and i installed a custom rom based on 5.0.1 (Cyanogen), but it has some bugs, mainly in the sound (it is distorted in some applications that worked well in my Jelly Bean Galaxy S2) and i am tryin since a couple of days ago to go to stock and i can not. Odin always gives me error and FAIL after a few seconds.
I can still flash a custom rom from my Custom Recovery (i did a 4.3.1 and a 4.4.4 both Cyano), but nothing from Odin goes in my phone, it is ALWAYS "fail" either the -pit- or something else.
How the hell can i go to stock? Is there any way i can do it without the PC and Odin?
If there are more details needed i will supply them.
Thank you.

Yes. You can use an app called Flashfire.
Anyway, Odin can fail for various reasons:
USB cable, USB ports (back ports are recommended), Odin version and Windows version.
So, i'm getting Flashfire (which can be used directly from Android, right? like any app)
(atm i flashed a wooping 1,5 GB custom rom - Death Star 2.0 - and so far so good. After some testing, one of the problematic apps is running ok).
Thank you. I'm gonna report back

You can find official roms here http://www.sammobile.com/ (you have to register and the speed is pretty slow)
The one i have installed, Death Star 2.0 is actually custom but very close to the official 4.2.2.
So far, with Death Star rom and Kernel Ktweaks flashed, the phone is running ok. I have some issues with Mobile Data (4G) as it runs much worse than before, but the overall picture is looking good. I'll report back any other issues i encounter.

[TUTORIAL][GUIDE]T-Mobile Downgrade from PE3 Marshmallow to NK3 KitKat

You can't Odin to NK3 from MM PE3, so in order to do this you've gotta Odin downgrade to LP COK2 and THEN flash recovery flash the selected KK rom of choice and then whatever KK kernel ya can find that ya like, I've found that LLFK is still active and alive. You might also wanna Odin flash the KK modem too for better GPS location.
Samsung made it or tried to make it irreversible ever since COK2, it's impossible to Odin back down to NK3 KK, so you have to flash a rom, kernel and modem for matching baseband.
1st: Odin COK2 Firmware LP 5.1.1: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24545065934258546
2nd: Odin Your Desired Custom Recovery
3rd: Flash Desired KitKat Rom of Your Choosing
4th: Flash KitKat Low Lying Fruit Kernel N915T: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/general/kernel-allows-selinuxpermissive-n915t-t3017469
5th: Odin KitKat NK3 N915T Modem: http://www.mediafire.com/download/s3l46lx7dfs26on/modem.tar.md5
Trust me I played around for a day and a half until I discovered it was possible to boot a KK rom off of COK2 and messing with Odin too, just a warning if ya don't flash a kernel you won't have working WiFi at all. Can't even Odin to LP 5.0.1.
I tried 3 times, regular flashing once, no kernel or modem, WiFi toggles would stick and just freeze as if they hadn't been touched and switched on, another time with the kitkat modem Odin flashed after installing the KK rom, again no response to the WiFi toggles no sign of WiFi connectivity, GPS location was better than no old KK modem and faster at picking up a location and then I flashed a kernel and suddenly everything was working as it should.

So does it allow you to go back to 5.1.1 from 6.0.1 by just flashing 5.1.1 In Odin with everything working?
Yes you can, no I couldn't go any further back than COK2 5.1.1 Odin firmware everything working fresh like new out the box, any earlier Odin firmware attempts ended in the fail error everyone is posting about, tried with BOD7 5.0.1 Odin firmware and got the same error as KK firmware.
TL;DR Simplicity - COK2 LP 5.1.1 is the earliest you can back to in Odin, I think COK2 locked the previous version firmwares bootloader, trying to make downgrading to Original KK firmware irreversible.

Cool, I just want to go to 5.1.1 maybe to check out some of those roms. I'm using tekhd 6.0.1 deodex and saw some interesting 5.1.1 roms I might want to try as I just received a note edge after trading in my note 4 for a broken camera that didn't focus so I'm ready to start roming this bad boy. But a simple Odin back to 5.1.1 and I'm good to go sounds great. I was hesitant to update to 6.0.1 as I thought I wouldnt be able to go back but did the update anyway. Thanks for the response. I'll try in a few days after playing around with 6.0 for a few days.
In theory you could probably go down to LP 5.1.1 just by flashing a LP rom and a LP kernel, I don't see why the same method wouldn't work for that. So before ya Odin get a good LP kernel and LP rom and try that out, I seen someone say to do that to LP for KK and that's what made me try and find out.

True, but I'll want to have a clean install for any rom I use on 5.1.1 just in case. Thanks again, team work makes the dream work.....of being a flashaholic. Lol
Do you have to be rooted for this to work? Honestly I just want to root my phone, but it seems like you can't root MM if you're on T-mo. I figured downgrading was my only option.
This thread should be a sticky
I can't seem to find any Kitkat kernels and LLFK dropbox links won't load for me. Anyone know where to get kitkat kernels?
EDIT: Seems it was a problem with my computer. Got it to load on my phone. But the Mediafire link also seems broken with a captcha that won't load properly. I'll see how it goes without it.
@MikeChannon Should this be stickied? @Zuffle I'll see if I can find a mirror or if db works me then make one myself.

Well a couple of things. Tutorials normally go in the device General forum so they don't get lost in a sea of question threads, but the decision about whether it should be a sticky or not I normally leave to the Forum Moderators who are a bit more in touch with what's happening in the forum and know better what should be stickied.

Theoretically this could be done for any version of the note edge, just remember to rollback and odin flash the matching version of 5.1.1 for your edge and then get the modem for it if possible and the kitkat rom of your choice, as well as root and twrp. But I believe and don't see why this side-step method wouldn't work for other versions of the edge and I imagine they (Sammy) locked the bootloader on all versions of 5.1.1, which is what people are getting hung up on in odin trying to flash 5.0.1 and 4.4.4
It's just the US models that Samsung locked the bootloader. I don't know about the Korean models but the other international models you can downgrade to any firmware of your choice.
