I've been installing different custom roms and kernels, and I notice one common problem. After reinstalling all my Apps by Google Play and Titanium Backup, the wifi takes a few minutes to reconnect and before that happens my sleep button doesn't work. A few minutes meaning 5-10mins. What could be the cause? One example is going from "N900TUVUCNB4" to "Hyperdrive Rom KK" using the stock kernel, but it also happens with other combinations. I am using the TMOBILE phone.
SOLUTION: I wasted the whole day just figuring this out. The problem was that my microSD card had over 21k+ files in there and the phone will always check the card during initial boot therefore any app/service that was responsible for starting the wifi and enabling the sleep button was greatly delayed. All I did was remove all those files (only a few hundred files now), and the phone started up normally on all ROMs.
please move this question, I just realized that it is in the wrong section.

I agree that each phone might behave differently. But did any one had relief from random reboots after loading any custom rom?
I have tried to format the phone, once even without the memory card but still face the reboot. Some times it goes into reboot loop. Searched on the internet and made changes to the reserved space in Zune as well. But no luck Only thing haven't tried is to load a rom !!!
I have been facing random reboots earlier like once in a day. But now it reboots more frequently, mostly when browsing or switching between apps that connect to internet.
Want to get some suggestion before loading any custom rom that might brick or make some features unavailable in the phone(like i read in other threads).
Some pointers

Some useful pointers
1. Always flash a ROM for your rev. # example: only flash rev 1.3 roms to 1.3 rev. phone because flashing a rom for a different rev. WILL COMPLETELY BRICK YOUR PHONE
2. Always reset phone before and after flashing to prevent further errors
3.Always Backup phone
Im 17 and I have flashed my phone with 0 errors.. If you have a rev 1.3 phone I strongly recommend flashing Clean ROM .. link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528984

Thanks for the info. The phone is working fine since last 4 days, i might wait for a week and then go for the custom ROM. Meanwhile, would wait for others to add their experiences or ideas !!!
Hi. Try turning off location services. At least in my case, it was the major cause. I had restarts once or twice a day, now have twice a week. Also try the clean rom. It is much stable than the other roms in this case.

In addition to turning off location services, disable closed apps from accessing internet. You can then re-enable the apps one by one to determine which ones may be causing a problem

Turning off the location service seems to have solved the problem to an extent. Would use the phone for some more days and then will decide on loading the custom ROM as i am little hesitant to change the original ROM.
Anyways, thanks for the replies guys
My phone has never restarted
Hi, My phone has never restarted in particular and i've flashed all possible roms and they all generally ensure a good performance .. May be a h/w issue like my wife's focus which we have returned. Try asking for a replacement if possible.
I updated my phone to a DeathStalker (MF9?) ROM and I have two constant issues:
1. I can no longer update my PRL, Profile or Firmware, etc. It keeps telling me my session is in progress and to try again later.
2. Occasionally my phone randomly reboots.
3. When I click the power button to wake the phone the phone goes into sleep of death forcing me to reboot or it doesn't wake and reboots on its own.
No idea what's causing these issues or how to fix them. I updated to Deathstalker from an old (June 2013) ROM and think it might have to do with firmware or something

could just be a bad DL try to dl the rom again and do a clean wipe and reflash.....if the issue persists try a different rom to see if its rom related (also there have been alot of issues with MF9 since its release)

You should literally ask this in the thread. You will get more help there. But if im not mistaken the developers for deathstalker took out the function to update prl and profile and also the fact that is "almost" a rom ported to our device it wouldnt have that function. Also it the reboots and death sleep could be kernel related.

Right, so this issue is not mutually exclusive to any ROM. All recent MF9 / MDL ROMs I have tried (3 in total) have this issue and so on. I've made posts about this but they sadly went unanswered
Not sure if PRL was disabled by that dev but it's a possibility
Kernel is always whatever is thrown into the ROM so I'm not sure how to proceed and nobody else appears to be having these issues.

Well that this happen when your running pure stock? If it does could be hardware problem.
Well you can just download any kernel of your choice in the original development. And just flash but make sure you make a backup and chose the right kernel. Well thats because phone handle kernels differently. It wont be the same for each phone. Just like us we wont have the same experience on each same event or changes. Get me?
MF9 has nothing to do with it. MF9 works great and updates PRL as it should. If it doesn't work in the ROM you are using than its the ROM. Usually you will find the best help for a rom related problem in the rom thread. I see you have plenty of posts to post in the development section so I would start there.
Hey guys,
I have a Galaxy S4 (i9500). I installed Omega ROM v22 on it and everything went smoothly, Wifi & BT working perfectly.
After a few hours of using the device (nothing special at all, texts and stuff like that) - I noticed my wifi isn't working and by not working I mean that I click the wi-fi button and it changes from gray to the mid-state between gray to green for around 20 seconds before it goes back to green ago.
If I open the menu to see my networks it just says "Enabling" without any networks there.
I had to drive somewhere so I went to my car and tried to enable Bluetooth, and same thing happens there - Bluetooth will not turn on and will stay stuck on mid-state between gray and green for a while and go back to green.
I flashed omega rom v22 again and the problem was gone, or so I thought. I went back to the car for another drive and realized the bluetooth issue is back - and when I got home I realized the wifi issue is back as well.
I figured I need to reset everything so I tried the following:
Full wipe (including dalvik and even including "internal SD card") and then flashing stock rom (from the official website, stock rom of my country).
The issue was back after a few hours. I do not have BT or Wifi access. Yesterday Wifi suddenly started working for a few hours but then it stopped working again.
I really need help! I have no idea what to do with this issue!
Well rule number one when you have problems after flashing without wipe.
1. perform a full wipe and see if the problem persists.

Tried that, no luck.
What else would you try?
In some places when people had problems with Wi-Fi they said to flash a different kernel but I don't see why I would have this specific issue with Omega Rom and why the default kernel with it wont work well?
Maybe this could be a root issue? My root works fine but I have this weird gut feeling like this is some permissions thing that's going on.
I'm trying to think why it would work right after the wipe but then stop working shortly after.
Another symptom: It randomly started working for a few minutes and then stopped again (around three hours ago).
Any idea what's going on?
Well, if you fully wiped and didn't restore any apps and settings then it can be two other things.
Or it's a bug in the rom or a hardware failure in your phone.
I would suggest trying a different rom first. Do not restore anything, not even your google account.
wi-fi fix?
Do you actually have an i9505? or is it a canadian or att version? if its the latter sometimes the devs offer some wifi-fixes, also try a different kernel. otherwise it could be that your radio/modem are not compatible with the version of the ROM you are flashing.
Tried arrow ROM and this issue doesn't seem to happen in this rom. Hope it stays like that...

Sadly, it did happen with this rom, after just a few hours.
I'm now using stock rom and still suffering from the issue.
Does anyone have ANY idea what I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
Can someone please suggest a ROM that won't give me the WhatsApp time error? FIVE roms I have tried all suffer from this "issue". I know it's a 'known bug" but why? It's it really so hard to fix a time issue?
My clock even resets itself throughout the day.
What should I look out for so not to get this issue again?
Thanks.
Stock?
WhatsApp works fine this end, on stock latest Lollipop
I don't want just 'stock' though. I want a rom that's got features and has been debloated. I'd I wanted stock I wouldn't have rooted my phone.
the problem isn't your rom
there's something wrong with the time_daemon
on a rooted device, turn auto sync time to provider setting off
make a copy of time_daemon from system/bin
reboot your device and set the correct time
then delete time_daemon and reboot
you will have to reboot a couple of times
turn auto sync on again, reboot once more, put time_daemon back in system/bin and reboot one last time
should be fixed now
at least - it worked for me
Hi all,
I'm running the official 6.0 ROM from this thread and the latest baseband/modem/bootloader from this thread. The ROM is working smoothly apart from 1 crucial issue: whenever the devices goes into deep sleep it reboots itself.
- This doesn't happen when the screen is on or the device is otherwise active (e.g. it didn't reboot when I was moving data off of it to a PC)
- This doesn't happen when the SIM is locked / when the device does a reboot and I don't touch it (e.g. it reboots when I go to sleep and it will be up and running the next morning - battery log shows it has been on without interruptions throughout the night)
Obviously a quite frustrating issue and I don't know where the problem lies. Any help or ideas much appreciated.
1. Backup what you want to save.
2. Wipe /system and /data
3. Start from scratch
Use the phone without installing any apps. If it works then the rom is fine. Then try installingen the apps you want to use and keep testing.
