Samsung galaxy s4 i9505 unlocked version motherboard dead - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have a samsung galaxy s4 (i9505 unlocked version) which was brought 1 year ago, but after 5 months had a water damage. It was recovered and one day, I used my laptop placed over it accidentally and found the phone dead probably because of the heat produced by the laptop (the laptop overheats often). The phone doesn't show any signs of overheat though. It still looks brand new except that it doesn't power on. I have shown the phone to many local technicians but they are telling that the motherboard is gone and the replacement will cost nearly that of a brand new phone. I do not know what to do with my dead phone. Any suggestions please?

Buy a new motherboard.

[Q] Charging wont work

Hey guys, recently went out and got a Note 4, went to a local tech store to sell my basically mint S4. They went through all the testing and we came to the conclusion that the phone wont take a charge. I was confused by this as was charging via the usb cord the day before. Before taking it into the store I obviously Odin flashed the stock firmware, and since then have tried a couple different tar files to no avail.
Has anyone else come across this particular issue? Honestly I am a little pissed as the selling of this device was intended to reduce the ridiculous cost of the Note 4.
The thing that i really dont understand is the usb port works fine when it comes to odin or connecting to a pc in general, it just wont take a charge. For the last year or so, I have not really charged via usb as I purchased a second battery with charger and have basicilly been switching batteries every time one is at about 5% with a full 100% replacement.
HELP PLEASE lol
Thanks
Celkin
Well check your S4 if it can be charged via a computer and the wall outlet.
1. Take the S4 and the S4 USB to micro cable, plug it and charge from the computer.
2. Try charging it from the wall outlet.
If both fail then it your charging port on the S4 may be damaged.
I personally caused water damage to my charging port and for 1 month I did exactly what you are doing.
I found a company that could repair the charging port for $50 (after negotiations) and my phone works like new.
I was also thinking of selling my S4 to the cell phone store for $170 or privately on Kijiji for around $350 or less to offset the cost of me getting a Note 4. But I ended up not getting a Note 4, i'll keep my S4 for another 6 months to a year. I still enjoy it.
How much were you getting from your tech store?
How do you like the Note 4?

[Q] Motherboard replacement

Yesterday I picked up a used Nexus 7 with a bootloop issue.. spent $10 so I figured worst case I bought an expensive charger for my phone. Either way, it looks like the bootloader is locked and I can't unlock it. Everything I've read seems to point to a bad emmc chip. Would replacing the motherboard solve this issue (assuming the new motherboard doesn't have the same defect). Also could I replace this one (an 8gb) with a 16 or 32 gb board?
I changed my motherboard from 16 to 32gb. All went without a hitch. I got this one...

Good luck! ?

Did you just want to upgrade or was there an issue with the original 16GB? If it's good (and you still have it) would you want to sell it?
I assume my motherboard is zapped. I can charge my Grouper while it's unplugged but no device will recognize it. I made the mistake of upgrading my partition with this issue, now I have a fancy paperweight. Thoughts?
I just ordered an 8GB replacement motherboard from eBay, cost $16.99. I'm figuring I'll be into this thing for a bit under $30 if all works out so worth the gamble I guess. I'll update once it comes in.
My new 32 gb motherboard arrived, and I installed it right away- I felt like it was Christmas morning. Fast forward to closing the case, and I get no power. Not even a weak attempt. I went through everything, it's all properly attached. Still nothing. It's currently charging with no LED light on. I am not optimistic. Anyone have any suggestions?

I replaced my boards also.... Bought a used unit that came from a Nexus that someone had broken the screen on.... So, I received the frame with camera/speaker and boards attached.... only thing missing was the usb/headphone piece which I just took from my old frame....
Put everything together.... sealed it up..... plugged it in..... Nothing...... mild heart attack..... But then, I let it charge for 10 minutes... returned to the unit and pressed and held the power button.... and it fired up....
So, as I don't have a suggestion on if there is something internally wrong.... But sure, that the battery is plugged in securely and give that power button another shot after charging for a little while...
Motherboard came in yesterday, couldn't have been easier to install just have to watch the plastic clips on the ribbon cable connectors, I broke one on the old motherboard, if they are anything like the PS3 if they break you're SOL. The new MB was on 4.2 so I went through the upgrade procedure to 5.0.2 and wow it runs lollipop nicely. Also I ended up getting a 16gb MB so that worked out well.
Try and use a regular tablet charger, which I think is 1.3 or 2.3 amps and not one of the generic chargers which are lower - you will notice a huge difference in charging time. I'm using the tablet charger on my S4 and it goes from 10% to 100% in around an hour.

Note 8 is Dead.

Well, my trusty Note 8 is dead. I've had this for several years. Love the 8" size and the SPen.
Two weeks ago the tablet was dead so I plugged it in for a charge. Came back several hours later to nothing. (Plug works fine) Tried a hard reboot via buttons, nope.
So I ordered a new battery, and got it yesterday. Opened up the case, replaced the battery and plugged it in. Well several hours later and still nothing. ?
As mentioned I love the 8" size and thr SPen. I don't see a newer version of this, so off to shop.

Unfortunately they kind of abandoned this. I have mine bought it used 2 years ago I think. Bought a battery after the seller told me the battery was going, it wasn't the battery and it still works just fine

Ya, they seem to be focusing on the 10" tablet range.

hi, you seems to have the same problem as mine,I replaced the charging board (see attached) common fault, purchased one from ebay.
you mentioned you replaced the battery ? sound serious problem or the battery was not connected properly ? some shops out to cheat, pretend that they replaced a NEW battery but actually its an old battery from somewhere. a new battery usually have a 30% charged
Note8 very easy to open, just the back cover, a screw driver will get the charging board replaced
:fingers-crossed:

If you can avoid it don't get a battery off of whatever site your getting it from unless it's genuine Samsung. The knockoffs try to play it off as Samsung but it isn't

Good, get the qualified tech to check, battery dead or the chipset dead by using the multimeter for voltage etc.:good:
its still wise to change the power board, NOT repair the board bcos the board is very sensitive to be repaired even the "expert" at the repair shops I went thru the years cant do a good job repairing the power board. funny symtoms of note8, always ended in the powerboard, "sometimes it charge n sometimes it doesn't charge at all." never the battery. never had problem with the battery, yet ! :cyclops:
*not expensive to buy a powerboard n they send internationally.
PS" in the end i swop a new powerboard, my note8 comes back alive kicking n never need another repair for 3 years now.

its abt the power, power board simply means controller of all your power, dude :victory:
its a common fault in your note 8.0 all leads to the power board.
if handled normally ofcos :fingers-crossed:
forget abt giving the expert to repair the board, jumper wire works but only afew days or months. your best bet is replace the power board !!! end of repair, new life to your note 8.0 :laugh::laugh:

Random reboots while on battery and screen off

My phone will randomly reboot every 5 or 6 minutes while on battery and the screen is off. This does not happen when the screen is on and on battery, or the phone is plugged in and the screen is either on or off. I recently got this phone used and don't recall if it ever worked correctly while on battery. The seller sold it as working. I also swapped out the motherboard with one I bought as a used part. The reason being, is that the original motherboard is 32GB, while the new one is 64GB. I bought the motherboard as is, not tested. I replaced the battery with a new OEM battery. Accubattery indicates the battery's health is 104%.
I've tried Nitrogen 8.0 and SuperXE 8.1 and the problem persists with either ROM. I've also flashed factory 7.1.2 and 8.0 and it still reboots while on battery and screen off. I'm not sure what to try next? I'll probably take it apart and try it with the original 32GB motherboard. I don't know if this is a hardware issue or software issue?
Update: I replaced the 64GB motherboard with the original 32GB motherboard and it works now.
The motherboards on recent Google phones including the Pixel have a tendency to burn out. You're probably lucky that the 32G motherboard is good.

Moto g7 power died

Hello,
I got a new moto g7 power a few weeks ago and promptly cracked the screen. Bought a replacement from eBay which worked for an hour. Then died , taking the whole phone down. No sign of life whatsoever. I bought new frame, battery, charged over night and there is nothing. I know how to reset it. The thing is dead and xfinity said tough luck. Does anyone have the slightest idea what could be wrong? Thanks P.S. how to check usb-c ? I own only the phone to check it.

Do you have a PC?
If so see of it is listed in Device Manager as Qualcomm
Sent from my mata using XDA Labs
Pc port
Yes, I also bricked it and was only able to get it back by use of device manager. Pc doesn't even acknowledge my connecting the phone. I ordered the LCD cable that runs under the battery today. As I did crimp it pretty good taking out the battery. Fingers crossed that solves the problem. However, I don't think it would be dead just because screen is not functional. Seems it should be able to power up.
Update
Nothing in my life suggested that I could change a phone screen. I don't know why I tried. I give up. Thanks
