uninstall radio's 4g etc. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I have an odd request. I recently purchased a sprint galaxy s4 and I would like to uninstall all the radios/dialers etc. I use my phone entirely via wifi because screw contracts so things such as the dialer are completely worthless for me and I get tired of my phone constantly searching for 3g/4g networks, no sim warnings, and searching for cell towers. How do I completely disable all the radios except wifi?

Simple, turn on airplane which will in turn disable all radios and then go back in and turn WiFi on. I've been running my tablet like this for years. Does wonders for battery life, your device not constantly searching for signal.

I'll do that, but anyway to literally remove some of them. Its pretty insignificant bloat, but why have them installed if you don't need them?

If you install cyanogenmod it might be easier to do this because it has alot less bloat.

Then just use titanium backup or this app called "uninstall" from the play store to remove the apps you dont want.

But definitely dont uninstall your radios lol just use airplane mode

Just to show you how much usage I get on my Xoom(on a battery 3 -4 years old mind you. This is running stock Jelly Bean on Wi-Fi and I literally use this thing every day still lol.

Nexus 4 wont receive VOIP calls when on standby

Hi all, I have two Nexus 4 and I have this problem with both of them. I have got install Viber, Skype and Hangout and this happens with all of them. Basically if my phone is on standby and someone calls me on Hangout (lets say) then on the other person's phone it will show that its ringing but on my phone it wont ring until I wake the phone (by pressing the power button). This only happens if my phone is connected to wifi. My brother has HTC one x and I tried calling him on Hangout and it worked for him. This isnt an issue which occurs only a few times but it happens every time. Same story for Skype and Viber.
Any idea what can be going wrong? This issue is really irritating! I have a feeling this issue has something to do with power saving. The reason I say this is because if my phone is connected to the wall charger and is on standby, it still receives calls perfectly. The issue only occurs when on battery (not connected to wall charger).
Please help

This is a common issue for our beloved Nexus 4, when the screen is turned off , after a few minutes, WIFI will too, that's why we can't receive the call. Hope Android 4.3 will fix it. Or you can follow this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102986, it fix temporally.
Just check the advanced wifi settings
put wifi always on.
Search... its there

Thank you so much! I tried what was mentioned in the link and it works now. I really hope google resolves this issue in 4.3. This makes me think how much is the OS actually tested before sending it out in the wild.

Any way to get rid of this mobile data notification?

This notification shows up after every reset. Obviously most of us know without mobile data or wifi Internet or some other apps don't work, no need to be reminded about it every time. There's no option for do not show again for this notification. Has anyone figured out how to get rid of it? This is almost as annoying as the constant "connect to wifi" reminder when the Galaxy S3 first came out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you

Before I get your hopes up, I don't have a solution, just a few musings...
I've never seen this before, but if it pops up after a reboot, you might try to find something in Xposed, or try looking through Data Usage, Mobile Networks, or WiFi in settings; there could be something in there.
Does this pop up no matter what, or is it only if you try to do something after a reboot? If it's the latter, you might try just waiting a few more seconds before using the phone after a reboot.

It only happens if I have mobile data turned off before I reboot, or if it's somehow turned off when the phone enters the home screen. The funny thing is it's almost trying to 'force' me to use mobile data, so like even if WiFi is on when the phone starts up, I'll get this notification. It's almost the opposite of the "connect to WiFi" notification that the S3 had.
I'm on a Dev edition Note 3 running Beans rom build 2, if that matters, with everything almost as stock as possible compared to the stock TW rom. I don't know if anyone else with the MJ3 or MJ7 rom gets this notification, I'm guessing they do on stock too.
Just curious, why do you shut data off? Your phone won't use your data connection if it's connected to WiFi.
Unfortunately, I don't have a solution :/

Nexus 6P - Microphone has stopped working

Got my phone on Thursday. Everything has been fine. Have been making phone calls and using OK Google ever since.
Woke up this morning and called Verizon (using my GF's phone) to see if they could get HD Voice/VOLTE working. (I did not make any phone calls from my phone this morning so I can't say 100% that the microphone was working today). Tier 2 support asked me install the My Verizon App. Verizon Rep called my phone, HD calling showed up (but we didn't actually converse over my phone) and we finished up.
Tried to make a phone call from my phone and nothing can be heard coming from my end. Nothing through "OK Google". Nothing when making phone calls on Wi-fi through Google Hangouts.
I've factory reset. I've unrooted/locked bootloader. Gone 100% to stock using these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
It would seem as the microphone is dead or muted somewhere.
Is there something obvious that I'm overlooking?
Verizon screwed something up when setting up VOLTE? I would ask them to put it back to the other one and see if that fixes it. Otherwise, replace.

I pulled the SIM from the 6P and put it back into my Nexus 6. The Nexus 6 is working just fine. I'll put the SIM back in the 6P when I get home. Maybe do another factory reset without the SIM in and try OK Google and a Google Hangout call over WiFi.
Is there a possibility there is a setting somewhere in the phone that is not getting wiped when doing a factory reset? Could something have changed in say, the build.prop (for example), that has muted all of the microphones?
Not sure. I'm guessing they could have sent something to the phone. I think there is a dial thing you can do to toggle VOLTE on and off. Let me see if I can find it.

Enter the menu with the dial code and see if you can turn it back off.
I don't have a 6P yet but I had a similar problem with an LG phone. It turned out it was the Google app. I turned off the OK Google feature in settings and the mic began working again. It was fixed in a subsequent app update. Worth a shot.

Advanced Calling and WiFi Calling won't enable

Rooted G900V with MM 6.0.1. Trying to enable Advanced Calling and I get the message that it is already enabled on my line and to power off and back on my device. Still doesn't work. Is this just a known issue with a rooted device or is there some trick to get it working? I saw a post about toggling Global to LTE and I'm trying that and so far, I have a status that says upgrade in progress and you will receive a message shortly when upgrading complete but things have not progressed from there (so far).

no good ideas, eh?
If you aren't on Verizon service it won't work is what I have heard pretty much everywhere and from everyone
---------- Post added at 10:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:19 PM ----------
If you are on Verizon service try temporarily disabling root and see if that works
if youre not on verizon service it wont work. if you are just call them and ask them to refresh your 4g preferred roaming list or PRL. if they dont know what you mean hang up and get another rep. if that doesnt work pull your battery then pull your sim then try to power on without it and then put it back in and power back on. youll eventually get it, i went through that for months
This is strange but I occasionally have a problem where this happens (advanced calling previously works then is grayed out and it quits working for no apparent reason). What I have found fixes it on a rooted phone is you backup the settings storage app with titanium backup then restore the data from the backup you just made then reboot. For some reason this fixes it for me. I know this is an old thread but hope this info helps someone else having this issue.

Android Oreo - "Mobile Data Has Run Out", but I still have lots of internet quota.
whenever you're on cell connection, and lost signal. when the signal got strong again, there's notification from mobile carrier "Mobile data has run out", "Tap to visit *operator* website"
you could fix this by activating and deactivating airplane mode. It's so annoying.
Does anyone experiencing this?

Not ever. Which carrier/MVNO? Maybe it's time to get a new carrier/plan.
Yes, I've been having that message ever since the first boot after updating to Android O about three days ago. Toggling airplane mode on and off fixes the issue for about couple of hours. Battery also drains like crazy.
Now, today is the first time I'm out of the house away from wifi all day and I haven't get the message again. I'm back on wifi for about two hours now and all is well. Battery also seems to be back to normal. Hope it stays that way.

Well, if the cell signal is strong that doesn't seem to happen. But if you're on weak signal where you could lose receptions, then that happened.

@Rollies77 Telkomsel, Pak! My driver used XL and always had problems. Don't know how you upgraded, but you could try downgrading your radio. Just fastboot flash the previous modem.img. (v3.81). Current version is 3.84. The radio is independent of the ROM version so it will work no problems. The older radio from Nougat may get your service back.

Yup, XL Axiata. Just happened again. Gonna try downgrading the radio. Thanks.
Edit: No luck. Flashed 03.81 radio, reboot and greeted by "mobile data has run out" message.
I upgraded to stock OPR6 from Google's factory image. Clean flashed. Happened on first boot before rooted. But yeah probably XL is acting up.

I'm on full stock, not rooted. So i don't think i can flash the radio.
So it's the XL's fault. I don't want to change my number, and i'm staying away from Telkomsel, their call center is the worst, also in my work place and home their signal is not very good.
Anyone not using XL experiencing this?

Correct, can't flash the modem partition with a locked bootloader. You could stop by any kiosk and pickup a simPATI and you'll quickly know the answer for very little money, but I tend to agree with you that XL is probably the culprit, and loading 8.0 was coincidental. I always had good service with Telkomsel, and was impressed by the service at their graPARIs, especially at Pondok Indah. There are also some settings to experiment with under Dev Options (don't have to be rooted). One is "Agressive Wi-Fi to mobile handover" and the other is "Mobile data always active". Toggle those and see what happens. Good luck. :good: @Rollies77

Will try that on the Dev Options. Especially the "Mobile Data Always Active"
It's not graPARI's services that are bad, but their unified call center (147), My friends are experiencing bad service from call center (angry at customers, blaming customers for the problems even though the customer actually an IT guy), The product is Telkom Speedy, not their Mobile products. But they are still using the same 147 Call Center right?
google knows about this bug - have for a while, taking their sweet time to roll it out in the november security update.
I just upgraded to Oreo today (Project Fi 6p) and it completely cuts off my XL data in Bali.
Good job google.
There is a message at the end of this thread that suggests removing an app to fix it... I guess I'm going to give it a whirl.
