So I'm trying to root my SM-G900H. When i do the volume down + home button + power button combo I get into a blue screen with Korean writing ( I was able to find a translation online, its factory mode as shown in image).
Anyways Odin doesn't detect my phone in this mode and I can't find any other key combinations to enter a different mode.
This phone is really frustrating me because it's a European model, and there's less info about it.
Anyone have any ideas?
You should provide a lot more detail about your phone. It would be great if you installed and ran the Samsung Phone Info app too.
Your difficulties might be because of a foreign language ROM. We don't know since you didn't provide any information about your firmware version, baseband or anything else for us to go on. But it sounds like you might have a S5 clone. Run the app and provide more details, so that someone can help you sort it out.
.
Thanks
Thanks for the reply. Here's more information about my phone. I couldn't install the app because I am actually trying to root so i could resolve an internal storage error. And yes I've been wondering if it's a clone. It does have the 16mp camera, and i think clones come with 13MP. But I am not sure if that is a reliable way to tell.

Yeah i saw that after i posted. I resized it so its actually readable if you zoom in now.
Thanks for reposting the screen shot.
I won't say it's conclusive evidence, but based on the kernel /baseband version, I'd say that I'm about 99% sure that you have a clone there (sorry, if that is unexpected news). Appears to be one of the better clones FWIW, probably the Goo phone.
Try this.. set your camera resolution to max, take some photos and then move them to your PC. If the file size is actually 8 MB instead of 16 MB, that would pretty much confirm it as a clone. If you want to go the extra step, an extended benchmark suite would clearly tell you if it was a clone (MT processor class performance) or a genuine S5 which would benchmark much higher scores.
Do not use firmware, rooting methods, Odin or any XDA advice unless it is specifically labeled as being for your clone or you may permanently brick your phone. Clones are not the same internally as the original models. You need to search a forum like china-devices.com for clone specific advice on how to root, repair, restore firmware and so forth.
You haven't provided much detail yet, but you appear to have this clone model:
http://www.dhgate.com/product/octa-core-mtk6592-goophone-s5-1-1-sm-g900/184825442.html
http://www.china-devices.com/Thread-Rooting-new-octacore-S5
Good luck
.
Thanks so much for all your help! I've bassicaly spent the whole day today trying to figure out if it's a clone.
The model you suggested has an 8mp camera, and my phone has a 16mp. So that's throwing me off. Other signs do suggest it's a clone.
I'll do more research to see if they have clones with 16mp cameras.

Did you actually take a picture and look at the file size in a PC file browser and find it to be 16 MB? If not, then you are likely being mislead by erroneous information in the settings menu or some app.
Don't assume, take a picture and check the actual file size.
.
So I took a picture and then converted resolution to megapixels and got about 14.7mp. Close enough?
Here's what's interesting. In details of picture it said my model is SM G900F, whereas settings and boot up say SM G900H

No not good enough /close enough, because you didn't explain in detail how you did that conversion. Ideal would be posting a link to the full size, unmodified image or at least what was the original filesize in Megabytes of the image from the camera?
Regardless of the answer, the evidence, limited as it is, still strongly points to a clone. One with an upgraded camera, if the file size supports that conclusion. If you search Goo phone posts in that case, you'd probably find that their latest iteration has upgraded the camera.
By all means check all of the details. It would be great if somehow it turns out to be legit. But that would take lottery type odds - it would be rather difficult to explain away the kernel and baseband information. You also alluded to other anomalies so as much as I sympathize, it's going to turn out to be a clone.

Install CPU-Z or CPU identifier from Play and it will identify your phone ans cpu.
Fake?
So I ran CPU Z and this is what it shows. Is my device fake?
Also cpu z shows that i have 1080p screen. i ran another app (phone information) and that shows different stats (720p screen)

I'm set to meet with a craigslist seller tomorrow to buy his N7000.
I have another thread on here where I asked how to determine whether the phone was or was not genuine. Thanks to the generous response of posters here I'm satisfied that I now have enough information to make that determination.
Now I'd like to know what all of you think I should check for when buying a used Note above and beyond the question of whether it is a fake or not ....
Obviously I'm going to use my sim card and check for call quality, but other than that .... what tests do you think I should make? What should I look out for?
Any and all advice greatly appreciated as I'm somewhat nervous about this purchase (more money than I have yet spent on a phone!).

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you think I should use a program to look for dead pixels or just eyeball them?
There is a built in test set which covers an large number of things. Definitely do the touch test and leave the phone alone for a bit to see if there are ghost touches (you can see it happen here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597981 ).
To start the test screen, go into the dialer and dial star-hash-zero-star-hash. It will help find dead pixels, test cameras and sensors, test the pen and touchscreen.

download dead pixel test app from play store.... then keep pressing the screen until u get the white screen which is dimly lit.... coz bright light covers up the dead pixels
Will you open a third thread after you have bought the Note? Why not continue the other one here ... or kindly ask a Mod to close the other one as it has become obsolete.

Check the internal memory, if its less than 11GB (on 16GB version) it could contain "bricked" sectors.
If its rooted, (the phone is) you could install emmc check and check the memory.
As per the thread, this should not be closed. It is very much valid, and could be a guidance to anyone who wants to buy a new GNOTE. The other thread is on authenticity, this one is on the potential issues with used genuine Notes.
Did you care to read what I typed? There are 2 threads of the same type opened by the exact same user. Hence, my question to close ONE of the two threads

Yes, assuming I have some questions related to rooting it, or about black crush, or some other issue related to actually owning the device. That is, unless, there is some sort of rule about how many unrelated threads I am allowed to start. If there is, by all means, let me know about it ...

They are two different threads. The first one was specifically about determining whether or not a Note is genuine. This thread is about other things to watch out for when buying a used Note--dead pixels, etc. Two different subjects. Again if there is some limitation on the number of unrelated threads I can start--please point me to that information.

However before I could actually delete my first post, I got two or three responses right off the bat, so I decided to just leave it as it was. If a mod wants to move it I won't complain.
i came across this matter 1 month ago. someone selling cheap note to my friend. sadly he bought it withot a doubt. when i check it. it was a fake. hardware is note but firmware is s3. the first thing i notice is the homescreen wallpaper. it was galaxy note 2 wallpaper. what i do then is i download android hardware info and check it there. instead of telling model name : GTn7000 it was something else. the cpu and ram is the same. then i go to setting and check for spen setting. there is none! i also restart the phone because if it is a galaxy note the first one to appear is a word : galaxy note gt-n7000. then i check the lockscreen wallpaper and it is different from stock lockscreen wallpaper. then i go checking the storage sadly it was 2g only.
1) Check the watermarks on the phone and battery. I'm not sure where these are located but I know phones always have one to identify water damage.
2) Check the screws to make sure there aren't any marks on them. Marks on them indicate that the owner has opened it before. If he has opened it before, the question becomes, why?
3) Make sure that the phone has 16 GB of internal memory, it should be about 12gb of user space. Run an emmc test on it. If you want, download the app, and put it on your own microSD card and bring it there. So you can sideload it and run the test yourself even if you have no WIFI.
4) Shake the phone to hear for any signs of rattling; an indicator that something could be broken inside.
5) Download the app phone tester to test all the sensors too. Make sure the accelerometer is working, proximity sensor, etc.
6) Play a song/video file to make sure the speakers are functional, and if they are functional, that they aren't busted (e.g., cracking when volume is too loud).
Can't think of anything else....but lastly, trust your gut. If the guy seems shady and something doesn't sit right with you, just leave the deal.

+ 1. Very important.
I'm sitting here with my 6month old note and it isn't charging....it's stuck on 1% !
Have the seller open the back and check if the battery fits perfectly. A small step on the bottom end means the battery is bulged and very near the end of its life.
Great time to buy second hand Androids, since the release of the rediculously cheap yet hi spec nexus 4, I've noticed most people are basing there offers on this new low price level, not sure this is healthy for Android. The note 1 should be worth near to £300 as its the same or was price level as an iPhone 4s, yet most offers come in sub £200....unless you really need a stylus and a old spec rapidly forgotten phone I would wait till nexus 4 or add some cash to the falling in price note 2

S4 is one of not so many mobile device on the market able to handle new HEVC (successor of MPEG4) video codec (it requires very efficient CPU and software stack).
try to find sample HEVC clip (preferably high bitrate) and put it on uSD card or USB pendrive with OTG adapter cable. clones will not be able to handle it correctly.

Try to register it on Samsung website (using the SN, IMEI or HEX)
You can also check IMEI alone. See this page:

Legitimate way to check if a black market phone is genuine? You gotta be fu*ckin' kiddin' me, LMFAO.
From what I read a fair few didn't boot into download mode when you pressed volume down home key and power.
Not sure how relevant that info is anymore as this may have been fixed...
I am speaking from experience. I bought a clone thinking it was a genuine s4 and bought a spare battery from amazon, when the battery came it didnt fit in the clone phone, it was about 1mm too thick, but the cover will not attach to the phone. also the back cover is easy to peel off of a clone. I resold the clone and bought a real s4 from tmobile and the spare battery fits and the back cover is harder to take off. before i got the genuine s4 it was really hard for me to tell the difference i really thought i had a real one, but after using a genuine one i can spot a fake pretty quick, the oem battery is a easy dead give away that owrked for me. It may not work for anyone reading my post and if it doesnt then so be it, please dont flame, thanks

Hi!
I bought a phone from a China website, etotalk which said it is a dual sim Galaxy S4, model i9502 (Samsung Galaxy S4 duos). But I have been having problem with it like, poor GPS reception, and poor battery life. So, I used the CPU identifier app, and it showed me as per attached files. Can you check whether its a fake S4? It says CPU type: Mediatek MT6589x4, but it also says under it Samsung Exynos 5 5410 OCTA x4 +4.1 1.2Ghz 1.2Ghz, then for Smartphone type: Alps/HDC i9502 (Galaxy S4 layout). Under more info, it says, delcared cpu speed: 1600Mhz (not applicable on this device) (Samsung fingerprint for faked market access). I think I bought a fake s4 What should I do?
Check weight of the phone on the internet and then find some pawnshop or jewelery and ask if they could mesure the weight of your phone. But i think there should be no mediatek crap.

Thanks jaswinky. I have tested the IR led and it works fine with my Samsung UA40D6600WR TV. It also works with our Astro (cable TV).
I have used download mode when I upgraded my phone to 4.3 by following the three steps in this website specifically for i9502 dual sim s4, http://marrkdaviid.com/2013/08/fix-...gle-play-on-the-galaxy-s4-i9502/#.UsH4jPQW0ud. The print screen for the download mode is attached (taken from the website, but similar to what I saw when I installed it). The steps are: 1) Install stock ROM ZNUEMK3 usin ODIN, 2) Install twrp recovery, 3) install the custom ROM (a purchased ROM) using this method. I upgraded successfully as per attached print screen, 'about device'
I'm confused.
So, congratulations, you can be sure you have an original Samsung i9502, otherwise you couldn't have entered in download mode or use led ir (clons have a empty hole instead a led).
Also, Chinese clons have a screen resolution rather lower than standard s4 1080x1920 px. If you want you can download antutu benchmark app from Google play and check it easily in device info section.

Jaswinky, if you can help me further, please My issue with this phone is its GPS which was the reason I wanted to determine whether it’s fake or not. My experience with it is bad compared to my previous phone, iPhone 4. I use Waze extensively, & with S4, I always get disconnected every minute or so, with error, ‘no GPS, using approximate locations’, and it takes a while to get reconnected. It then reroutes with my latest location. In a city, losing a few seconds of GPS connections means you’ll miss the next turns etc. This happens even after I have restarted the phone (ie with no other app running). I have tried all sorts of things & done all kinds of troubleshooting since I purchased this phone on 19/12/2013 (11 days now), but I still can’t resolve it. My troubleshooting includes:
1) I read through Waze forum, and most people said Waze issue is caused by Yahoo Weather, but I don't have it installed.
2) Others say, if I go to the setting and switch the GPS signal off and back on while within the app, it will correct itself, but this doesn't work for me
3) When I restarted phone, I found a few built-in Samsung apps immediately running. Since they can’t be uninstalled, so, I disabled them. These are: S Health, Story album, and accuweather
4) I used Location services. I used both GPS satellites and wireless networks. I also tried disabling wireless networks. Both produced the same error
5) I used app, ‘Faster Fix’, and set the location to Malaysia (my country)
6) I uninstalled potentially conflicting apps. My apps are now down from 40++ to just 10. Uninstallation was done one by one, to potentially identify the culprit app. I didn’t find it. The error still appears
7) Google Maps works fine. GPS test & GPS status apps also show good signal. However, compared to my wife’s Galaxy Note II, my S4 has In Use/In View satellites=8/10 vs Note II=13/20. See attached print screens for mine & wife’s. I checked further and found that my S4 doesn’t detect GLONASS satellites (I read that GPS satellites numbers are 1-64, and GLONASS satellites are 65-92). So far, I have narrowed down to this issue on why my S4 GPS performance is poor. When the number of satellites connected is less, I believe it gets disconnected more easily. Can this be correct? Can you show your GPS status print screen for your S4? Is it true S4 doesn’t have GLONASS support? As per Antutu device info, under transmission, it says, support GPS and support A-GPS, but doesn’t say support GLONASS. If it does support GLONASS, how do we activate it?
I really like Waze, because it connects to foursquare, which allows me to find more places easily. If you can help me solve this problem, it'd be greatly appreciated
Thank you

Thanks carlosm15. So, it's confirmed that S4 with Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chip is GLONASS capable. I was afraid it doesn't because in the comparison here, http://system-on-a-chip.findthebest.com/compare/288-328/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-APQ8064-vs-Samsung-Exynos-5-Octa-5410, S4 Qualcomm uses gpsOneGen GPS chip which specifically states with GLONASS, whilst Exynos has embedded GPS chip, but it doesn't state whether it is GLONASS capable.
Mine is as attached. It only shows one square, ie GLONASS, no 193, which doesn't get connected. The no of satellites connected is also low at 8nos compared to your 13 nos, and in view satellites of 12 nos compared to your 24 nos. Another strange behaviour is when it gets disconnected from the GPS, when I go to GPS test, it shows many satellites, but it doesn't get connected ie greyed as per the 2nd print screen attached. I think I want to reflash the ROM to see whether it'll fix this issue
Refresh the A-GPS data and look if you can connect to another satellites... in gps status, under tools tab... Download the recent data and test...

Thanks carlosm15. I've refreshed A-GPS data using GPS status, but the no of satellites connected (in use), and in view are still low as per attached file. Thanks
Hi,
Ive just been handed a Note3, 4.1.2, gt-n2700 for work, never having even barely used an Android device before, although i know my way around win phones.
Of course ive just installed a ton of free apps, assuming i would have lots of space, but am now getting install errors quoting lack of install space - Ive 200mb left of 2gb space. Now the phone says it also has 11gb of USB storage (no idea where from, this is how it was given to me), and the phone is listing a few apps as already being there, as well as on the 2gb space, but not taking up room.
Ive read i can move apps to SD, but it says no SD is installed (so assume this 11gb is not an SD card?), and i dont have the option to choose "move to USB storage"
Is it possible to allot some of this USB storage to the main install 2gb partition?
Or to allw me to move apps to the USB storage?
Finally, if someone suggest a flash (i should have really known to check how old OS was and do this first), is there an easy way to do a full backup
and re-install as have jest spent hours getting everything setup...
This is a fake note 3. No one can help you here you don't have a note3 in your hand.
Wow, really? How can you tell? It has a working stylus and everything about it seems pretty solid (well in so far as all Samsungs ive had are).
Will a photo or something cobfirm for certain?
1. No note 3 came with 4.1.
2. Gt-n2700 is not a note 3 model number
3. Minimum storage space for any real note 3 is 16gb. Not 2.
4. No storage is listed as usb storage, unless you connected a usb key via an otg cable.
You have a fake device. Sorry about your luck.

Sheesh.... well it's stull a fairly decent device so far as any fakes ive seen are concerned! If they had sorted the storage then this would be as good as the real thing, seems amazing they put this much effort in to not finish the job! Lol
Will inform the boss and the seller...
I also just found a spare 2gb micro SD which isnt being recognised. It came from a Windows phone though so might it just need fornatting on a PC or Linux box in Fat32, or can i just expect that not to work either?
Are there any forums dedicated to these fake devices then also..?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2574886Have just read this:
Have just read this and my pen works perfectly, with hover action and button gestures.
Are the fakes doing the pens now as well? Hmmm....
Yes and also hovering sensor.
fair enough... I don't want to go on about it, but there also seem to be a of videos / reviews for the GT-N7000 on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=note+3+gt-n7000
I have also just plugged it into a PC, and the USB storage is browseable, and a real 10.9GB
is there a real cut and dried test of it being fake (e.g. serial number etc.?) - this thing genuinely seems too good in performance and all other aspects to be a fake - are they really this good? sorry but new to Notes and Android, and am genuinely suprised!

Correct - sorry about the initial typo, it is in fact a Note1 and this is confirmed with the Spec Device app. I was told incorrect model.
So, now i know it real but just a diferent device, I will take my query off to the correct forum...!

What makes a difference between a cheap hundred dollar China phone and A $600 galaxy is very often the camera besides cpu ram etc
I want to verify if my j i a y u s3 really has
The Sony sensor IMX215 that it claims to have
apps like CPU Z only tell you chipset and computer cpu , nothing about the camera sensor module .
Someone please tell me how this can be done.

AnTuTu Benchmark
(The application that you need)
You can check your hardware specifications and there manufacturers. Play store link below
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNG-CVf_epu-PJmZEbs46WHTCyDgEA
BTW
$100 phone has limited features. Its just a A+ copy of the original phone.
Even display pixel density is low, Processor, ram is low
Doesn't have each sensor and obviously you wouldn't get warranty.
Hope you found this helpful

Everyone knows about antutu .
Its like me asking what car does Obama use on vacations and you tell me he uses a black Lincoln when he is in white house.
I think that would be fairly obvious... But thanks for replying at least anyway, better than those keeping quiet over this important issue !!!
That is not going to tell me anything about the camera sensor , my friend
all it then tells me is what is the maximum capacity in terms of MP. It does not even tell me the image output is genuine or interpolated.
On a Linux desktop you can run lShw
And get some info off devices connected and I figured adb wd would be closest
but I was trying to find out if there's something from within the phone itself
The folders under under root do not yield much information

Your question wasn't that specific!
I don't think there's any file in root that contains such information.
There can be an application but you need to search a lot

android s actually Linux.
if a device is connected then it hardware specs should be available with some method. And I am asking this question to figure out how to identify the camera and it's module that is used which in turn should bring me to the sensor
And you know what....... When all these manufacturers claim that the sensor is a Sony I asked them more specs ... Tell me what type of sensor is it and they avoid answering the question.
because the specifications are all fabricated and they are lying
from my L200 using XDA Free mobile app
I used Aida64 on my Galaxy Note 3 and it shows the brand, model and some other parameters. Hopefully it will be useful for your question.
Yes it does. this is the first app that actually digs deeper like l s h w and tell you what the phone has inside and rightly so it does have an Imx214 sensor
But from the pictures it takes which I am not at all bad I kind of feel I need something with bigger mp size and and dual sim and the only other option is xperia z series.
