Any legit way to identify fake GS4? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy pals
Just wanna to ask, is there any legit way to spot the fake GS4?
Don't suggest to check the hardware, the clone is perfectly made now with 100% detail same with the original
Air gesture, smart video and other GS4 features now are cloneable. So any legit way to spot them?

S4 is one of not so many mobile device on the market able to handle new HEVC (successor of MPEG4) video codec (it requires very efficient CPU and software stack).
try to find sample HEVC clip (preferably high bitrate) and put it on uSD card or USB pendrive with OTG adapter cable. clones will not be able to handle it correctly.

Try to register it on Samsung website (using the SN, IMEI or HEX)
You can also check IMEI alone. See this page:

yes, but i can't find this is a legit way
and this can't be done on other phone

I say 95% of clones may not have the S600 or Exynos 5 chip so you might wanna do a benchmark? And I also doubt they'll would put highly sensitive touchscreen for air view.

You can use CPU - Z or My DROID system info.

Legitimate way to check if a black market phone is genuine? You gotta be fu*ckin' kiddin' me, LMFAO.

From what I read a fair few didn't boot into download mode when you pressed volume down home key and power.
Not sure how relevant that info is anymore as this may have been fixed...

I am speaking from experience. I bought a clone thinking it was a genuine s4 and bought a spare battery from amazon, when the battery came it didnt fit in the clone phone, it was about 1mm too thick, but the cover will not attach to the phone. also the back cover is easy to peel off of a clone. I resold the clone and bought a real s4 from tmobile and the spare battery fits and the back cover is harder to take off. before i got the genuine s4 it was really hard for me to tell the difference i really thought i had a real one, but after using a genuine one i can spot a fake pretty quick, the oem battery is a easy dead give away that owrked for me. It may not work for anyone reading my post and if it doesnt then so be it, please dont flame, thanks

[Q] eee Pad right for my lifestyle?

Hello, i was hoping to get some advice with this choice i have.
I need a device to replace my old/dead 15" laptop. Bought years ago for £400, pretty weak AMD processor and integrated graphics i use it for browsing and entertainment purposes. Basically, facebook, news and watching films. It does rarely get used for work, mainly typing out a few documents and a quick spreadsheet if i am trying to work out some finances. Things i am confident polaris office can handle. I do also use the HDMI out when i want to play a film on a big TV, however usually standard def or occasionally 720p
I am in the military so i move about a lot! My current laptop last around 2 hours on a charge so i get very bored on an 18 hour flight as you might expect! I have a SGS II so i already have a nice catalogue of apps. So my question to you, owners of shiney eee pads now that the glaze of new ownership may have left some of you, do you think your device could replace a laptop for someone like me?
Can it output via HDMI port without making you tear your hair out?
How often do you have to reach for a windows device because your tablet/dock fails?
Does it power your external hard drives well enough?
If i bought one, it would be my only mobile device, is it up to functioning on its own?
Do the bugs ruin the experience?
Thank you kindly!
hurry up and get one, it will be perfect for you.
Yes to all your questions and no for the last.
You will love the battery life of the tablet + dock
Inviato dal mio Transformer TF101 usando Tapatalk
Yes, it seems to be perfect with the keyboard, especially with the looong lasting batteries
But read the forum about the office ... some people don't like it ... and check out how to print with this baby ... I haven't a clue how, because I use Windows for that.
And don't worry too much about bugs ... I would be more worried about getting a TF without too much light bleeding in the display.

I bought my TF to replace a defunct laptop and would never go back to a laptop now. I originally bought an expensive laptop with alot of memory for playing games and as with most high end laptops it never got used for anything other than web, emails, documents and the occasional video. The ASUS can handle all this and much much more. Facebook is handled easily either through the FaceBook app or on the browser (I use the latest Opera Mobile which works very well), Pulse (free on the Market) handles News beautifully on a Tablet and Movies look very nice. I have never used it to watch high def movies but im sure it will play 720P fine as long as the movie is encoded correctly and the codec is supported on the Video Player. I use MoboPlayer which works alot better than the built in player and covers alot of codecs.
Trust me you wont look back and with the keyboard dock you can expect 15-20 hours battery life which would suit you very well on your long journeys. What I tend to do is use the tablet on its own until the battery gets low (around 9 hours normal use) and then plug the dock in to recharge the tablet. Once the screen is fully charged (takes round 3 hours while docked) you can then undock and continue or just use it while docked if you wish. The keyboard dock also makes a good stand if you want to put it on a desk and watch a movie.
The HDMI works perfectly with my Smasung 51inch Plasma. The first time I plugged it in it connected straight away and looks stunning. No problems at all although I think there are reports that new Panasonic TV's have problems but they may be isolated cases.
My tablet has only rebooted itself a few times and those times haven't been due the TF but to a custom kernel that had some bad settings. You have to remember that Honeycomb is still a VERY new operating system and there may be a few bugs but they will soon be ironed out as google are very good at updating Roms.
I have a 500GB external HardDrive (2.5inch with a single usb connector) and there is no problem at all with it being powered via the ASUS. You have to be docked as the USB connectors are only on the keyboard (so make sure you get one with the keyboard if you need this feature) but im sure you wont have any problems.
If you do get one (with the keyboard) then you wont miss your laptop at all if you are going to be using it for the things you mentioned. There is no laptop that can come close to the life of the TF and the screen is very clear and sharp which makes it ideal for movies and web browsing. The keyboard is very tactile and can hammer out documents very quickly and if you plug a usb mouse in you can even control it in the same way as your pc. A little tip, there is a button on the keyboard (top row, 4th in from left side) that turns the trackpad on and off which helps alot when you are docked and using your finger on the screen. My arm kept touching the trackpad making it do strange things and it took a while to figure out what was happening lol.
Hope this little review helps you make up your mind either way
Mark.
I bought this to replace my very old 15" powerbook G4, thats right, I said it....G4 hahaha. I knew that in no way was this a laptop replacement. I understood that this was more of a multimedia/entertainment device than anything else.
Purchasing this product with that in mind has was the best purchase I've made this year. However, if I bought this with the assumption that it would function the same as my laptop, I think I would have returned this a long time ago.
Surfing the web: Can't beat it. I used to get frustrated with the stock browser always crashing on me but I found Opera Mobile 11 and I've never looked back. Sometimes I do wish there was a full size browser for the tablet instead of mobile browswer but yeah, Opera gets the job done.....I know there is Maxathon or something that offers a full browser experience, but I've had issues with it so I'll stick to Opera.
Movies: At first I wanted to throw my tablet out the window but thanks to the XDA forums I found the means to convert my movies to MP4s. And with the update to 3.1, movies are near flawless. I do wish that the tablet could support all media files and play as smooth as my desktop but I only watch movies on the road. If I'm at home, I havea TV for that. It's acceptable.
Reading: eBooks are great, but PDFs are teh suck! The MyLibrary app is complete garbage. I've tried other apps but loading PDF magazines are always laggy so I just get pissed off and don't even bother.
Music: The speakers on this thing sucks.....get a nice pair of headphones.
Work: I've tried to use Polaris Office to do some spreadsheets but it was super troublesome. I guess if I got used to the way Android operated vs thinking of how Excel and Word works in Windows it might be ok. What I do is I just RDP into my Windows computer and work off the full version of Office.
Hope this helps
I also take flights occasionally and as you are aware...a laptop just doesn't fit in a modern airline seat space!! there is no lap left...but the TF is perfect!
Q:
Can it output via HDMI port without making you tear your hair out?
I do this at least once or twice a week...plug it in watch a movie on the TV...not issues at all.
Q
How often do you have to reach for a windows device because your tablet/dock fails?
It never fails but I do use the laptop every day due to an app that I need on android that isn't ready for prime time...if it was...I'd never use the laptop.
Q:
Does it power your external hard drives well enough?
Yep...I watch movies right from the external drive.
Q:
If i bought one, it would be my only mobile device, is it up to functioning on its own?
the ONLY weakness that I still have is the Office app...it doesn't have cut/paste capability. Once that's worked out....I'll be happy.
Q:
Do the bugs ruin the experience?
What Bugs? I never have bugs...
Thank you kindly!
You're welcome!
I have a TF,a rooted Nook Color, a laptop and a desktop. LOL, my desktop system might as well a doorstop at this point I never use it. My laptop is a decent machine but the battery life is dismal compared to the TF or the rooted Nook. I work from home a lot, love sitting outside and also really appreciate how cool running my TF and it's dock ar, no sitting in the sun while holding awarm laptop!
There are some windows programs I need to use regularly, I bought Splashtop HD and simply connect to one of my computers when I need to access these programs. Another plus with Splashtop HD is that I can use it to stream Netflix from my computer to my TF, I love watching a movie while lying comfortably in my bed and the screen on the TF is simply lovely for this purpose.

I highly recommend the AKG K319, which have a fantastic sound, nearly like a big high-end home headphone, e.g. Beyerdynamic DT-880. And don't get shocked by the shown price ... just google a bit ... I only payed 25 Euros
I was astonished how good the TF sounds with this headphones though it doesn't have an equalizer built-in.
Oh btw ... the K319 have a nice hardcase and an air plane adapter in the package. If I would loose them I would buy them again. But be warned, they need to burn in for about 50 hours to develop it's full potential. So don't get disappointed, when you first plug them in.
These are by far the best mobile headphones below 200$, no joke.
needs are manipulable... once u have the device, u'll have the needs to do stuffs with it *evil grin*

The asus transformers with serial number B4O.... Have been plagued with screen issues, from what I hear as long as you get a transformer with B6O, you should have no such issues.
Thank you all for your informative replies.
Are the newer transformers B60 then? I will be getting mine through PC world, who currently have no stock, so i assume when they get them they will straight off the production line.

I just got mine yesterday from best buy and it was in fact B60 with 3.1 update already installed. From what I've experienced these things sell-out pretty quick (at least thats what best buy told me) so they're always getting new shipments.
There is another thread on here regarding t different models, though I don't think there's much difference (my mistake) . Mine isn't terrible in that I only notice it in the dark (lightbleed) but if you're not on a budget, I'd consider the Galaxy Tab 10.1 as they seem to have better quality control. Do you're research though, I haven't done any digging myself.

Maybe, but if the tab will be your only PC, I think the TF is currently the best choice ... maybe besides the Arconia Tab, which doesn't have light bleed issues.
Another choice would be waiting until fall, when the next models will be available ... the Archos 3G e.g. looks promising.
Hey guys I don't mean to highjack this thread or anything, but I am probably getting the tf in the near future and I was wondering where I should buy one and what place has a good warranty where if I got a defective one I could get it replaced easily. It has Polaris Office preinstalled. From what I read, it can open MS Office documents. But so far I didn't find any hints how to print with the TF or if any printer wil be compatible on the USB. I think the printing topic is worth a new thread.
I found THIS to print to network printers ... I fear, that's the only way.
PS: Also have a look at THIS.

Well for starters noone can give you an answer since you have given no indication as to where you live. If you want to get it from a shop then any large electrical retailer should give you good customer service if anything goes wrong. I cant comment about buying it online until I know what country you live in lol.
You can easily create and edit word documents using the included Polaris Office app. There is no default app to let you print but you can either use an app called PrinterShare (or similar from the market) or look into google cloud printing.
EDIT: Google cloud printing works extremely well. Just go *HERE* and install Google Chrome on your pc. Then enable Cloud Printing from Chrome and print a test page to make sure its set up using the email address that your Tablet is set up with. You then need to install an app which supports cloud printing such as PrinterShare or Cloud Print BETA and you are good to go. Tested this with both PrinterShare and Cloud Print BETA and both work fine.

Amazon has very good customer service from what experience I have with them and is usually quite quick with replacements if anything goes wrong. Their warrany will be exactly the same as any other online retailer. The only problem with buying online is that you wont know what model you get until it arrives at your door.
If you really really want the B60 model then your best bet is to goto a store and ask to view the product in the box to make sure of the model. Some places may not oblige but most should. Saying that, I have the B40 model of tablet and have had absolutely no problems with it so far (touch wood).

Buying Used Note. What to Watch Out For?

I'm set to meet with a craigslist seller tomorrow to buy his N7000.
I have another thread on here where I asked how to determine whether the phone was or was not genuine. Thanks to the generous response of posters here I'm satisfied that I now have enough information to make that determination.
Now I'd like to know what all of you think I should check for when buying a used Note above and beyond the question of whether it is a fake or not ....
Obviously I'm going to use my sim card and check for call quality, but other than that .... what tests do you think I should make? What should I look out for?
Any and all advice greatly appreciated as I'm somewhat nervous about this purchase (more money than I have yet spent on a phone!).

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you think I should use a program to look for dead pixels or just eyeball them?
There is a built in test set which covers an large number of things. Definitely do the touch test and leave the phone alone for a bit to see if there are ghost touches (you can see it happen here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597981 ).
To start the test screen, go into the dialer and dial star-hash-zero-star-hash. It will help find dead pixels, test cameras and sensors, test the pen and touchscreen.

Check the internal memory, if its less than 11GB (on 16GB version) it could contain "bricked" sectors.
If its rooted, (the phone is) you could install emmc check and check the memory.
As per the thread, this should not be closed. It is very much valid, and could be a guidance to anyone who wants to buy a new GNOTE. The other thread is on authenticity, this one is on the potential issues with used genuine Notes.
Did you care to read what I typed? There are 2 threads of the same type opened by the exact same user. Hence, my question to close ONE of the two threads

Yes, assuming I have some questions related to rooting it, or about black crush, or some other issue related to actually owning the device. That is, unless, there is some sort of rule about how many unrelated threads I am allowed to start. If there is, by all means, let me know about it ...

They are two different threads. The first one was specifically about determining whether or not a Note is genuine. This thread is about other things to watch out for when buying a used Note--dead pixels, etc. Two different subjects. Again if there is some limitation on the number of unrelated threads I can start--please point me to that information.

Here I think you are actually in the right. Yes this thread probably could have gone in Q&A and I realized that only after the fact. However before I could actually delete my first post, I got two or three responses right off the bat, so I decided to just leave it as it was. If a mod wants to move it I won't complain.
i came across this matter 1 month ago. someone selling cheap note to my friend. sadly he bought it withot a doubt. when i check it. it was a fake. hardware is note but firmware is s3. the first thing i notice is the homescreen wallpaper. it was galaxy note 2 wallpaper. what i do then is i download android hardware info and check it there. instead of telling model name : GTn7000 it was something else. the cpu and ram is the same. then i go to setting and check for spen setting. there is none! i also restart the phone because if it is a galaxy note the first one to appear is a word : galaxy note gt-n7000. then i check the lockscreen wallpaper and it is different from stock lockscreen wallpaper. then i go checking the storage sadly it was 2g only.
1) Check the watermarks on the phone and battery. I'm not sure where these are located but I know phones always have one to identify water damage.
2) Check the screws to make sure there aren't any marks on them. Marks on them indicate that the owner has opened it before. If he has opened it before, the question becomes, why?
3) Make sure that the phone has 16 GB of internal memory, it should be about 12gb of user space. Run an emmc test on it. If you want, download the app, and put it on your own microSD card and bring it there. So you can sideload it and run the test yourself even if you have no WIFI.
4) Shake the phone to hear for any signs of rattling; an indicator that something could be broken inside.
5) Download the app phone tester to test all the sensors too. Make sure the accelerometer is working, proximity sensor, etc.
6) Play a song/video file to make sure the speakers are functional, and if they are functional, that they aren't busted (e.g., cracking when volume is too loud).
Can't think of anything else....but lastly, trust your gut. If the guy seems shady and something doesn't sit right with you, just leave the deal.
Check the USB charging port!!!!
Bring along a laptop and a USB cable that you know works. Make sure you can charge and that you get a data connection. Gently wiggle the end connected to the phone and make sure the connection doesn't drop.

+ 1. Very important.
I'm sitting here with my 6month old note and it isn't charging....it's stuck on 1% !
Have the seller open the back and check if the battery fits perfectly. A small step on the bottom end means the battery is bulged and very near the end of its life.
Great time to buy second hand Androids, since the release of the rediculously cheap yet hi spec nexus 4, I've noticed most people are basing there offers on this new low price level, not sure this is healthy for Android. The note 1 should be worth near to £300 as its the same or was price level as an iPhone 4s, yet most offers come in sub £200....unless you really need a stylus and a old spec rapidly forgotten phone I would wait till nexus 4 or add some cash to the falling in price note 2

Noob Note 3 storage clarification and install errors

Hi,
Ive just been handed a Note3, 4.1.2, gt-n2700 for work, never having even barely used an Android device before, although i know my way around win phones.
Of course ive just installed a ton of free apps, assuming i would have lots of space, but am now getting install errors quoting lack of install space - Ive 200mb left of 2gb space. Now the phone says it also has 11gb of USB storage (no idea where from, this is how it was given to me), and the phone is listing a few apps as already being there, as well as on the 2gb space, but not taking up room.
Ive read i can move apps to SD, but it says no SD is installed (so assume this 11gb is not an SD card?), and i dont have the option to choose "move to USB storage"
Is it possible to allot some of this USB storage to the main install 2gb partition?
Or to allw me to move apps to the USB storage?
Finally, if someone suggest a flash (i should have really known to check how old OS was and do this first), is there an easy way to do a full backup
and re-install as have jest spent hours getting everything setup...
This is a fake note 3. No one can help you here you don't have a note3 in your hand.
Wow, really? How can you tell? It has a working stylus and everything about it seems pretty solid (well in so far as all Samsungs ive had are).
Will a photo or something cobfirm for certain?
1. No note 3 came with 4.1.
2. Gt-n2700 is not a note 3 model number
3. Minimum storage space for any real note 3 is 16gb. Not 2.
4. No storage is listed as usb storage, unless you connected a usb key via an otg cable.
You have a fake device. Sorry about your luck.

Sheesh.... well it's stull a fairly decent device so far as any fakes ive seen are concerned! If they had sorted the storage then this would be as good as the real thing, seems amazing they put this much effort in to not finish the job! Lol
Will inform the boss and the seller...
I also just found a spare 2gb micro SD which isnt being recognised. It came from a Windows phone though so might it just need fornatting on a PC or Linux box in Fat32, or can i just expect that not to work either?
Are there any forums dedicated to these fake devices then also..?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2574886Have just read this:
Have just read this and my pen works perfectly, with hover action and button gestures.
Are the fakes doing the pens now as well? Hmmm....
Yes and also hovering sensor.
fair enough... I don't want to go on about it, but there also seem to be a of videos / reviews for the GT-N7000 on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=note+3+gt-n7000
I have also just plugged it into a PC, and the USB storage is browseable, and a real 10.9GB
is there a real cut and dried test of it being fake (e.g. serial number etc.?) - this thing genuinely seems too good in performance and all other aspects to be a fake - are they really this good? sorry but new to Notes and Android, and am genuinely suprised!

Correct - sorry about the initial typo, it is in fact a Note1 and this is confirmed with the Spec Device app. I was told incorrect model.
So, now i know it real but just a diferent device, I will take my query off to the correct forum...!

Problem with rooting

So I'm trying to root my SM-G900H. When i do the volume down + home button + power button combo I get into a blue screen with Korean writing ( I was able to find a translation online, its factory mode as shown in image).
Anyways Odin doesn't detect my phone in this mode and I can't find any other key combinations to enter a different mode.
This phone is really frustrating me because it's a European model, and there's less info about it.
Anyone have any ideas?
You should provide a lot more detail about your phone. It would be great if you installed and ran the Samsung Phone Info app too.
Your difficulties might be because of a foreign language ROM. We don't know since you didn't provide any information about your firmware version, baseband or anything else for us to go on. But it sounds like you might have a S5 clone. Run the app and provide more details, so that someone can help you sort it out.
.
Thanks
Thanks for the reply. Here's more information about my phone. I couldn't install the app because I am actually trying to root so i could resolve an internal storage error. And yes I've been wondering if it's a clone. It does have the 16mp camera, and i think clones come with 13MP. But I am not sure if that is a reliable way to tell.
.That photo is so small as to be illegible.

Sorry

Yeah i saw that after i posted. I resized it so its actually readable if you zoom in now.
Thanks for reposting the screen shot.
I won't say it's conclusive evidence, but based on the kernel /baseband version, I'd say that I'm about 99% sure that you have a clone there (sorry, if that is unexpected news). Appears to be one of the better clones FWIW, probably the Goo phone.
Try this.. set your camera resolution to max, take some photos and then move them to your PC. If the file size is actually 8 MB instead of 16 MB, that would pretty much confirm it as a clone. If you want to go the extra step, an extended benchmark suite would clearly tell you if it was a clone (MT processor class performance) or a genuine S5 which would benchmark much higher scores.
Do not use firmware, rooting methods, Odin or any XDA advice unless it is specifically labeled as being for your clone or you may permanently brick your phone. Clones are not the same internally as the original models. You need to search a forum like china-devices.com for clone specific advice on how to root, repair, restore firmware and so forth.
You haven't provided much detail yet, but you appear to have this clone model:
http://www.dhgate.com/product/octa-core-mtk6592-goophone-s5-1-1-sm-g900/184825442.html
http://www.china-devices.com/Thread-Rooting-new-octacore-S5
Good luck
.
Thanks so much for all your help! I've bassicaly spent the whole day today trying to figure out if it's a clone.
The model you suggested has an 8mp camera, and my phone has a 16mp. So that's throwing me off. Other signs do suggest it's a clone.
I'll do more research to see if they have clones with 16mp cameras.

Did you actually take a picture and look at the file size in a PC file browser and find it to be 16 MB? If not, then you are likely being mislead by erroneous information in the settings menu or some app.
Don't assume, take a picture and check the actual file size.
.
So I took a picture and then converted resolution to megapixels and got about 14.7mp. Close enough?
Here's what's interesting. In details of picture it said my model is SM G900F, whereas settings and boot up say SM G900H

No not good enough /close enough, because you didn't explain in detail how you did that conversion. Ideal would be posting a link to the full size, unmodified image or at least what was the original filesize in Megabytes of the image from the camera?
Regardless of the answer, the evidence, limited as it is, still strongly points to a clone. One with an upgraded camera, if the file size supports that conclusion. If you search Goo phone posts in that case, you'd probably find that their latest iteration has upgraded the camera.
By all means check all of the details. It would be great if somehow it turns out to be legit. But that would take lottery type odds - it would be rather difficult to explain away the kernel and baseband information. You also alluded to other anomalies so as much as I sympathize, it's going to turn out to be a clone.

If you don`t have a Exynos or Qualcomm cpu but a MT(K) you have a fake device.
hmm

Install CPU-Z or CPU identifier from Play and it will identify your phone ans cpu.
Fake?
So I ran CPU Z and this is what it shows. Is my device fake?
Also cpu z shows that i have 1080p screen. i ran another app (phone information) and that shows different stats (720p screen)

Bounty 100 EUR - Displayport Alt Mode - Enable USB C to HDMI

Hello devs,
Please look into enabling the displayport alt mode!!!
Its really frustrating how this phone cuts quality (480p) when used with a 4K TV. The only way is usb to hdmi cable, but sony decided to disable this feature.
Can you please make a tutorial on how to enable this?

I have found this intresting information:
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9195059/
It should be that easy as adding some lines of code?
Another intresting video:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Sony+Xperia+XZ+Premium+USB+Port+Replacement/97361
From this video we know thatXZ premium has all the USB type c 3.1 pins connected to the motherboard and therefor to snapdragon 835 (5:07 in the video)
Also take a look at this:
https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/type-c-pinout.png
Seems like the tx pins are responsible for Displayport alt mode
The good news is that they are soldered into the motherboard connector
Is it possible that the data pins have been disabled in kernel?
I look forward to this thing happening! (Although I'm waiting for a DRM backup method first)
as I said on the other thread, don't hold your breath, pins on a socket and PCB mean diddly squat.
Sony may very well disabled this or not even included supporting chips. I would strongly suggest if anyone wants to confirm this to find the same chipset on a different device with a working video out, then take a super high resolution photo of both sides of the PCB paying special attention to the numbers on the chips, then someone else do the same with the XZp
we will never be about to check the traces since it will be amulti layer PCB and we wont be able to check if any traces have been severed from a photo. but we will know if there are some supporting chips missing.
I disagree with you. Today chips are not just chips, are SOC.
Hardware is there. This tx prins are active for usb audio also, but not for video data transfer.
Sony hasn't implemented snapdragon 835 low cost version, because it does not exist. There are no other chips related to display port alt mode. It is done in Sd835. Simple as that.

SoC have been used for a long time mate, trust me, if Sony didn't want something there are dozens of things they can do to stop it. Its been a problem with SoC vendors for decades. a physical connection means nothing if its traces are cut
Of course its perfectly possible its just software limited but its equally possible its not physically possible. The proof will of course be if you can get it working... but They have been doing this for years now and are getting pretty good at it.

If you are so confident, then find out for your self, I would say.
You want me to prove that its broken or working? firstly I have no intention of putting any effort in to getting this to work, my device is perma locked and I really cant be arsed taking it apart and try to write over the ROM just to attempt to get this working.
Which leaves me with trying to prove its broken. as Ive said, multi layer PCBs will be impossible to check this without taking the device apart hell, ANY PCB will be impossible to check without checking each trace and that's not to say if QC hasn't used any fuses to blow certain circuits within the chips. If you get it working, then you will have your proof. all I'm saying is don't be surprised If it doesn't happen. it wont be the first time a manufacture has done this.

Nobody will be surprised, don't worry. Just that we don't know doesn't mean that we shouldn't try.
Trust me, displayport alt mode is disabled in kernel.
Tx pins are active for usb audio playback!
It seems the display link hardware is our only choice for the moment...

Check this out! https://youtu.be/Ff9GfDpH42Q
Maybe some devs look into the buildprop and kernel of the s8 to search for relevant data and compare them with our xzp...
P. S. another proof that makes me think that this sh...t is disabled in software is that with the displaylink apk the one plus 5, xiaomi mi6, etc are working. The data is sent by Displaylink app to those TX usb pins and works!
So with an app it can be sent, but with our sony software not? C'mon!!! This is BS!

your saying that the Displaylink APK works on the Sony Xperia XZp and on the Sony XZp, data is sent to the correct PINs on the USB-C out but it doesn't display anything? on a linked display?
Need help from rooted devices.
Please add or search in buildprop for ro.hdmi.enable=true
If it's present like this #ro.hdmi.enable=true, just delete the #
If it's not present, just add this line ro.hdmi.enable=true
Save and test only with usb-c 3.1 to hdmi and display port alt mode compatibile cable!
