So me being the careless guy I am, accidentally spills some water on my phone while it was charging. It wasn't a lot of water and the phone seems okay so far (knocks on wood). I did spill a bit of water on the charger as well and I did dry it off before plugging it back in.
But half a hour later, I smell something burning and realized that the charger as well as the bottom of my phone (where the battery is?) were dangerously hot. I've since unplugged it but my question is, have I done significant damage to my battery?
Battery should be ok, your charging port could be damaged.

Yes, the part the charging port is on is fairly easy to replace. You should get a new charger too.

That's the one. You'll need a few tools too, t5 screwdriver, small Phillips screwdriver and some plastic tool, guitar picks can work well

Right part, but you can get one off eBay for $12 with free shipping (USD, not sure about to Canada though).

Hello,
today i accidently dropped my Hero into my toilet (no joke!)
I pulled it out and dried it and immediately turned off and removed the battery. I tried drying it with a hair fan and am waiting now but I am scared to turn it on again (happened like 7 hours ago...)
Do you think it's broken?
put it in a air tight container with some silicon granuals u get from paking or a load of raice and leave it some were warm for a few days b4 u try a battery in it
I don't think its alive, but before turning it on let is for 3-5 days inside a bowl of rise, so all water will be dry from the motherboard. Remove battery , cover , sd card and let the rise do its job.
I hope you get your phone fixed by that trick
I did this recently with my hero, but instead it was the bath.
First thing I done was take out the battery.
I then put the phone in a plastic container without the back cover or battery and covered with rice.
I then put this on top of a radiator and left it for 3 days.
This worked for me thank god. The phone is now cleaner then ever , only downside the watermarks are now red so no warranty for me.
I hope you have similar luck.
Thanks alot, I'll try the rice trick for now.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to source three of '77H00668-00M' if you knew where you were looking. I can tell you that there are three of those waterproof stickers in the phone, and only one is visible from the outside. The other ones are located internally, one at the radio on the bottom surface, and the other at the top right, near the earpiece (all on the rear of the phone with the screen facing down). There's also one tamper-proof 'VOID' label to contend with, part number '77H00615-01P'.
For informational purposes only I do not condone 'warranty fraud'!
@anon2121
great advice if i only knew i how to put it in action, by warranty sticker are fooked, dropped apple juice on my hero
@fwers
Unfortunately that's the bit I can't help you with
Would you happen to have a similar old HTC device that uses those same stickers? If so, if it's out of warranty, a transplant of water-evident stickers (carefully so as not to damage them) may be possible. The 'VOID' tamper-proof one is slightly harder though, and you may need to just find a way to remove it without 'triggering' it. Usually, it is possible to remove these tamper-evident seals without damaging them, so long as you are slow and careful, and know what to do.

Hello again,
two days later i reassembled my phone - leaving it in a bowl of rice near the heating - and... it works again absolutely flawlessly
Thanks alot!
Question, did you flush before you dropped it in?

Well, that sorta killed the topic..
If it helps anyone else,
I wrote a seven step article to dealing with this in the future
http://tech-n-life.com/index.php/2010/02/7-steps-to-save-your-phone-if-it-gets-water-damaged/
Open the phone.
Get a 100Ml bottle of IPA(Iso Propyl Alcohol) or Spirit.
Dip the tooth brush in the IPA and clean the board throughly.
Then blow it dry using the hair drier.
Ive had my g1 for about half a year now and have never noticed this before, but when its plugged into the wall charger, the little metal screen over the speaker becomes electrically charged and can shock my ear or whatever else i touch to it.
Is this a known issue or is this how my service providor controls my mind?
Instead of phone I would rather check your house electrical wiring for proper grounding
What metal screen...? There's no external metal on the g1 that I can see.

Do you have carpets or rugs? If this is the case, then YOU are getting yourself charged wrt the electrical NEUTRAL and then DISCHARGING through your phone!
THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR YOUR PHONE!!!! You could FRY it beyond ANY hope of repair. You are literally shocking the thing with HUNDREDS of volts of electrical potential!
I STRONGLY suggest that if something like this is happening, that you get yourself a GROUNDING PAD and DISCHARGE yourself before touching the phone!
Well I finally have everything set up the way I like it internally. But of course I can't stop tinkering just because I'm done with my software. So now I am thinking about doing so external modifications to my device.
I know this will void my warranty. Not concerned about that. It its voided already due to a few unfortunate drops and a lost battle with some moisture.
I saw one modification to the case already. Someone had sanded all of the black paint off of that case to expose the red plastic. Think this might be my first step. Something I was really anxious to try was changing out the leds for the bottom for keys (home/menu/back/search.) Need some feedback on this though. Has anyone tried it yet? Questions? Comments? Concerns? Anything at all.

Yep. this guy did it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696526
i'd be interested to see how the sanded battery cover would come out. how do you plan on getting it smooth and refined looking? higher-grit paper?

Thanks for the link. Couldn't seem to find anything on it.
I am not sure if I am going to do that battery cover. Just the part of the case between the main body and the battery cover. That thin flat black strip. I don't know if the battery cover is red underneath.
And you are exactly correct. Knock off the paint with a lower grit. Then polish it up with some 1000 or 2000 grit. Maybe a little bit of wet sanding.

It's not.
My evo has the red trim now (knife to scrape, sandpaper to polish), and induction charging. My warranty was void soon after I got it thanks to taking it apart to solder.

EXACTLY
There is a thread floating around about it.
The led changes are very easy. Unfortunately my hands have always shaken too much for this type of soldering though. If only i could teach my wife such things....
Good thing you can be a computer engineer without having to solder microleds lol.

That mod with the battery pins and contacts from an old phone instead of wire would give a very OEM look.
not so sure about replacing the leds under the bottons, but i'd like to change the charging/notification light. think i remember seeing it changed to blue/white to good effect.
Half the of the metal tip on my charger broke off inside my tablets charge port is there any way to pry it open and push it out
You might try a rare-earth magnet, or similar. Or a pair of fine needle-nose pliers. That failing, is it still under warranty or did you buy it with a CC that has an extended-warranty service?
That's rough! :-(

The same thing happened to me, the charger is a cruel joke. Flimsy tip and the cable is way too short. I was able to fish it out with a needle or screwdriver or something, I can't remember what. I then glued it back on with super glue and it's been perfect ever since
Not sure what this has to do with Android development by the way.

I just pulled the half a charger out of the port and the other piece came out with it
I dropped my mi 9t and now there is no fingerprint hardware.
Fingerprint registration has disappeared from the settings
Probably fingerprint camera sensor has been unplugged on fall, you have to follow a disassembly guide and check that connector.

It seems like it, yes, either that or some solder got cracked making it harder to fix, but my guess is a partially unplugged connector.

Okay then ill myself open the battery cover but before doing that do. I need to use some other glue to stick it or the Phone's glue is strong enough to hold again after the dissembling?

No that won't hold the cover back, u have to use new glue strip and remove the old one completely...
If it's not cracked just send it on warranty
