[Q] Keyboard Error (Stock) am I the only one? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my s5 yesterday. Love the phone so far. Just one problem in the twitter for android app. when I do a search in the app (for example - looking up a twitter user) when I click their name I get a message saying unfortunately Samsung keyboard has stopped. I only get this error in this app doing this search function. I have deleted the cache for Samsung / twitter / uninstalled and reinstalled twitter and did a reset of the phone - the error continues. Does this sound like a phone or an app problem?
Thanks for the help.

I've never seen that error, so just you. Or more likely something with your app or phone configuration.
I'd guess it's a problem with your Twitter app, a bug or incompatibility in how it passes information to the keyboard, causing it to crash. Try going into the Settings menu application manager and clearing both cache and data for your Twitter app and the Keyboard. Note that clearing data will remove customized settings and passwords..
If the problem persists, try using a different keyboard.

Facebook Issue

After I installed the new Facebook for android application (1.5.1) on my DHD device I can not check my notifications.
Every time I launch the facebook application it tells me there was an error "connection reset by peers".
Any solutions ?
Maybe try to delete cache for facebook
I tried deleting data and cache and still does not work.
Update: Uninstalling the update and going back to the older version. All notification working properly
Still need to find a solution to get the notifications and syncing issues solves on the new version.
so i am using the older facebook application version because the new version give me the same error "connection reset by peer".
do u know how to downgrade back to the 1.5version?
To uninstall the updates. Goto applications -> select facebook -> u'll have a button saying un-instal updates.
This should push u back to v1.5.0

So is it solved now?
Update:
The new facebook application works fine of Wifi. Receive all notifications and updates.
It is only on Mobile(3G) internet that the facebook application shows me the error.
I get the same error pretty frequently. I usually just log on to Facebook using Dolphin Browser.
The Facebook Android app needs a lot of work to catch up to the Apple version.

I hate that I can't upload pics to someone's wall. I can do it on the iPhone...
And I have a problem with showing notifications but they won't go away after checking them.
i got the same problem with version 1.5.1 ("Connection reset by peer")
i also tried deleting cache and so on. did not help.
version 1.5 is working good, but it does not have chat, like 1.5.1
so i want 1.5.1 to work.
i've got the problem since two days now. i was using 1.5.1 before and everything worked well, but suddenly it did not -.-
if someone finds a solution, please post it
still no solution so far. Works perfectly fine on Wifi. Its only on 3G network that the notifications don't show up.

[Q] Error signing into YouTube app

I've been unable to run the YouTube app on my N10 for the last few days. The UI launches, but I see a message saying "An error occurred" during the sign on process. I've tried clearing data & cache and reinstalling. I'm the primary root user on the tablet, and can access all other Google services. I have two other users setup, and neither of those have the problem. A Google search for this issue hasn't been fruitful. My wi-fi data connection is solid. Anything else I could try? Anywhere I could look at the logs?
I just started having the same problem on my Nexus 7. Worked fine earlier today, but now I keep getting the error occurred message when trying to sign in. All other google services seem to be working fine. Tried uninstalling, removing account, etc., no dice.
I ended up having to do a Factory Data Reset to fix it.
Weird. I happened to have a backup of the old version so I loaded that up and it signed in no problem! Don't know what's going on here, guess I'll stick with this for now.

Have you guy tried just wiping the Cache of the app? It fixed the same problem for me once but on my gs3.
I also have an SGS3 and I don't know what else to do. Every time I tap on "Log In" I only get "An error occurred"...
Clearing app data didn't help for me. Like the other poster, I could log in using the original version of the YouTube app, but not the latest. Only a FDR fixed the problem for me. So unless someone can address the core issue, you're stuck using an old version or doing a FDR.
Sorry, but what is FDR?
Factory Data Reset
Thanks. So, what's the error's origin?
at my app too
I have a SGY and i flashed a custom rom and at my YT app it shows "An error occuped" too. I cleared the data and cache but it still shows the error. I NEED HELP!!! sry for my english
I'm having this same issue, except on my Galaxy S II. I'm running CM10.
Same thing; "An error occurred", won't allow me to sign in. Previous versions of the app work just fine. Extremely frustrating, and nonsensical as it worked just fine a few weeks ago. Please help!!
Same error on my Note2 & Nexus7. Both are running custom ROMs. On the Note I'm able to sign in to an older version of the app (4.2.16) but still get an error. Getting a bit annoying now.
but my real Big problem is with GooglePLAY
Has this been solved? Getting the same thing on i777 Samsung Galaxy S2. Uninstalling youtube updates solves the problem. However I keep getting reminded by Play to update youtube app.
I have always had this problem with the N7. Like previously stated, some older versions work tho. I've started keeping a version which works in my Dropbox. After rom update, etc I install that version straight from DB. I get the Play Store constant nagging to update to ignore, but at least I have a usable version. Which Google would get it's **** together!

Have any of you ever used 2 step verification? Ever. After loads of pissing about, trying different things I eventually got it sorted by removing all the apps I had set up for 2 step about a year ago. I also removed a heap of apps from the Connected Sites, Apps and Services page of my Google account. (click profile pic>Account>security>2 Step Verification settings>Manage application - specific passwords). If you have any apps in the application specific passwords section, remove them.
If you've never used 2 step verification, try revoking access to some apps from the same page.
This worked 100% for me, can't guarantee the same for you. Good luck.

I've been having exactly the same problem. However, I have several Google accounts so I tried to logon using a different one and, lo and behold, it works perfectly with the other account. But go back to the falling account and the error comes back. Switch accounts, it goes away. So it definitely has something to do with the account.
In my case, the one failing is the main account that I use for everything. It would be interesting to see if other people have the same behavior. So far, I'm still having the problem...

Just for the benefit of the next person. I tried almost everything to solve this problem, to no avail. What I didn't do was a factory reset, as I believe (based on my previous comment), that it was an account problem somehow, since I could log on ok with other accounts.
How it inadvertently got solved? Well I noticed that if I tried to sign in, I'd get the message "an error occurred", but my "what to watch" recommendations matched that particular account. So I went to somebody's channel and subscribed and boom, suddenly I'm in ok, no error displayed.
Would anyone with the problem try that and report? I can now sign in and out without a hitch.

One fix that may work for you guys that worked for me is to uninstall updates to the youtube app in settings>>apps.
New update seems to have broken a lot of things with the app

[Q] Contact stock app crashes / freezes on "Updating contact list"

I have a rooted Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 with Android 4.2.2 for the last 3 weeks and it worked without any problems. Since 3 days however the contact stock app crashes / doesnt open at all with black screen or freezes with the message "Updating contact list...". I didn't change any settings or installed any new apps during that time. The error also seems to crash the call stock app, where call log, favorites, contacts etc. are also not displayed. In most cases when the error appears I cannot even open the call app and initiate a phone call. Incoming calls just show the number but do not get matched to any contacts.
The error appears randomly and then lasts for 2-3 hours, after which the app works again normally. Rebooting, clearing cache or clearing dalvic cache has no effect.
All my contacts are synched with Google, Samsung account, Twitter, Facebook & Linkedin. I have tried deactivating each & all of the syncs but this had no effect. I also tried displaying only contacts with numbers or only contacts from a certain account in settings but this also had no effect on the error.
Any other suggestions on what could be tried to fix this? Thank you very much in advance!
I might have traced down the reason for this and it could be related to the "sync people details" option for the Google account sync. I have now deactivated the sync and have to monitor if the error still occurs. Has anyone else experienced similar problems due to this setting?

Same problem here, occurred at about the same date early sep 2013 with the same phone.... Galaxy S4, T Mobile, Android 4.2.2. The android.process.acore goes ape**** and block all apps that use the contact list: I can no longer text, phone or email, for a couple of hours. After that, everything goes back to normal for half a day like nothing ever happened. Then all hell break lose again. I called T-Mobile, Samsung and Google.
T-Mobile has the same fix for any conceivable problem: reinstall the entire system OR change the phone. How subtle!
Samsung won't deal with any client problem whatsoever.
Google was the best - hands down. They spent time with me trying to figure the problem out. Ultimately, they recommended rooting the phone - which is not great because I use wifi calling, which requires a bit of tmobile code. Frankly, I would love to get rid of TMobile's bloatware, but they have a way to control their clients with wifi calling.
Still working on getting this pb resolved.

I installed an app called "Contact Remover", deleted all contacts and then re-synched them and at the same time deactivated the sync for the "Sync People Details" option. Since then the error only appeared one more time (no idea why ..) but it seems as if that mostly fixed the issue.
Possible solution

It looks like disabling all unnecessary sync relieves the performance to a normal level.
In particular, disabling "Sync Contacts" (under Accounts/Skype) from Skype made a big improvement performance for my SG4.

[Q] Email app crashes

Email app crashes on opening a new mail. From status bar and from the app itself. After the first crash I can with no problem view my new email by opening the app again. This has been happening to me on every stock rom I used. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Tried a data factory reset or reflash the (stock) rom follwed by a factory reset.
Thanks you for answering!
I did try that 2 times a time ago. Didn't help. Apparently I'm the only one with this issue. Others that had this kind of problem had S2 and S3 where factory reset or clearing the app data did help them.

I know you factory reset, which should make this suggestion redundant, but try anyway: go to settings>apps>all and find the stock email app. Clear data for it, force stop it, and restart your phone. That may not do anything, but it's something to try. You should also check out K-9 mail for an alternative all-in-one app.

[Q] Unable to install any app

I began having an issue earlier today with Google Play where I got an unknown error 110. I thought maybe it was just bad connection, but I still had the issue on WiFi. I looked around for about an hour for solutions, and found two common and relevant fixes - clear Google play cache and factory reset. I tried the first and there was nothing to clear. I then tried to install a 3rd app and it failed to open the .apk. I also made sure my phone allowed unknown sources, and my settings crashes every time I hit security. After all of this failing, I decided to factory reset, and everything is still the same, except the Google Play error is now 406 with the same effect. Is there a good way to get this fixed?
Currently using Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 with 4.4.2.

Already tried that, both before and after the factory reset. Both buttons are greyed out. I also was forced to re-add my Gmail account after the reset. Both my usual and backup Gmail accounts have the issue in the Google Play store.

The best thing is to wait. ^_^
It shall resolve on its own.

I still cannot open any .apk file manually, giving the error "unable to open file". I'm not sure waiting for Google Play to update will fix this. Also what about settings->security crashing?
