Facebook Issue - Desire HD General

After I installed the new Facebook for android application (1.5.1) on my DHD device I can not check my notifications.
Every time I launch the facebook application it tells me there was an error "connection reset by peers".
Any solutions ?

Maybe try to delete cache for facebook

I tried deleting data and cache and still does not work.
Update: Uninstalling the update and going back to the older version. All notification working properly
Still need to find a solution to get the notifications and syncing issues solves on the new version.

so i am using the older facebook application version because the new version give me the same error "connection reset by peer".

do u know how to downgrade back to the 1.5version?

To uninstall the updates. Goto applications -> select facebook -> u'll have a button saying un-instal updates.
This should push u back to v1.5.0

So is it solved now?

Update:
The new facebook application works fine of Wifi. Receive all notifications and updates.
It is only on Mobile(3G) internet that the facebook application shows me the error.

I get the same error pretty frequently. I usually just log on to Facebook using Dolphin Browser.
The Facebook Android app needs a lot of work to catch up to the Apple version.

I hate that I can't upload pics to someone's wall. I can do it on the iPhone...
And I have a problem with showing notifications but they won't go away after checking them.

i got the same problem with version 1.5.1 ("Connection reset by peer")
i also tried deleting cache and so on. did not help.
version 1.5 is working good, but it does not have chat, like 1.5.1
so i want 1.5.1 to work.
i've got the problem since two days now. i was using 1.5.1 before and everything worked well, but suddenly it did not -.-
if someone finds a solution, please post it

still no solution so far. Works perfectly fine on Wifi. Its only on 3G network that the notifications don't show up.

Facebook official app update

Hi,
I found that there is a new version of Facebook ... version 1.2 (Market).
http://phandroid.com/2010/04/23/facebook-app-updates-adds-inbox-support/
And on my HTC Desire, the version is 112.
Anyone has updated this?
There are 2 facebook apps on my Desire:
- facebook (version 112)
- Facebook for HTC Sense (version 1)
How do you update?
Thanks
i only did the usual way to upgrade,
market -> download, and click on the application, and update.
Any feedback about the version? I see quite a few complaints about force closes on other handsets, how is it in the Desire?
Works just fine on the Desire. My biggest problem is you can't view your messages you have to manually go to the mobile site...oh wait what's this update...messaging feature finally! Now they need to add chat.
yep just updated today.. finally INBOX , otherwise not really seen anything different.
They need to get up to date with this android Facebook app. I did the update today hoping for the notifications to finally work properly, as in notifying me if someone comments on one of my posts! but alas, still no cigar, infact it never seems to notify me of anything. Is it just me?

I get updates but only if I add people with facebook to my Friends Widget..... then it adds a green circle with the number of updates by a friend.
the main app works fine, but the widget doesn't. fails to load each time.
edit: confirm that a reboot does indeed fix the problem.
A reboot of the Desire solved the issue with the widget for me
I've started using Bloo again lately. Much better notifications system, slicker and more comprehensive UI (has its own photo viewer with save option rather than just linking to the mobile site for example) AND there's an update coming this week that adds Facebook Chat.
Bloo doesn't let me log in i get stuck in a login cycle.
There is also multitouch when you view images.
Have you given the App permissions? Works fine on my Desire running generic Rom. Not bothered about multitouch; the only reason the native Facebook app has it is because it opens up the browser and that's CHEATING ;-) the gallery UI is much more slick and user friendly with Bloo, besides which there's little point viewing photos en masse with either of these apps as the standard photo gallery has Facebook album integration which is pretty damn slick
they have added the inbox but still it has few bugs. It cannot show more than 30 threaded messages in a single conversation. Even when someone sends a new message in that same conversation, you can see the preview on the inbox but when you click to go on reading it loads first 30 messages.
So im still stuck with the mobile facebook to see my messages. ..
anyone know the workaround of this?
I just want an update that lets me tag photos! I don't understand why this is taking so long
The update for Bloo has been coming for a few months. However, I can send you 1.5 (w/ chat) a bit later? PM if you want.
Also, I can't see the new update. I'm already on 1.2 :s Does the new version allow contact sync like the Nexus FroYo version?
Edit: New version sounds like the version I've had for some time now :s

Facebook Sync not working?

I'm running a custom ROM but it's a stock ROM, with Darchstars GodMode overclocked kernel. Also, I'm using Launcher Pro and not Sense. My problem is that for some reason, my Facebook contacts will not sync... I'm using the stock method for syncing contacts (Account and Sync; Facebook for HTC Sense)
Thanks

Mine hasn't been working either. Running stock 2.1 with launcherpro.
Swyped from my Sprint Hero via XDA app.
Facebook sync is down. Google it. It's a problem on there end not ours. If u were synced then it works. If ur trying to start a new sync then its down

You can download syncmypix (it's free). Wham, bam, thank you sir
Go to Facebook->Application Settings and remove HTC Sense. Then delete the Facebook sync from settings and add it again. This might fix it but I'm still waiting for it to sync.
Nevermind, didn't work.
It is working for other androids. It seems to only be a problem with 2.0+ syncing.
When I first got my phone (Vibrant) on 7/15 it worked fine then it didnt give me updates so i tried removing then re-adding facebook to accounts and sync and it no longer works, even tried doing a factory reset. Still nothing. So it went from working fine, to not working for some reason.

If you re-added your account or did a first sync after it stopped working, it won't work. If it was already working before it should still work.
I take it it's still broken. I just installed Fresh Rom, and it still will not sync my contacts.

Yep, HTC has said to try doing one of the following:
1. Try adding a city and state to your current job in Facebook.
2. Try deleting your current company in Facebook.

How did you get it to work? It isn't working for me.
I guess I am not as lucky
You know this is pretty sad but I can't seem to figure out how exactly I did it. I went into a contact under People and was messing with the picture somehow and it gave an option for facebook. Signed in from there. Since I did it there I have been able to remove my facebook account from accounts and sync and then add it from there.
Edit:
It's working for live updates but doesn't seem to work for synching contacts though. My list of Facebook contacts is blank when I try to link an existing contact with a Facebook contact.
You can use syncmypix from the market. I'm using it as a temporary workaround.

HTC Peep updating sense problem!!

hello everyone
i've been using peep for a long time, and i always had problems but i could find the solution on the internet especially on xda.
but this time i couldnt.
i updated twitter lastnight everything was okay, but today when i updated, the home screen popped up saying "Launching HTC Sense..." and of course when i looked back at peep there were still last nights tweets and no new ones!
i tried everything, i restarted. i restarted sense. soft reset.
and i dont wanna hard reset!! now tell me is there anything else i can do?
i really like Peep despite of its problems, and i wanna keep using it!!!
yup i'm having the same issue - just tried it on mine to test what you said about it
as soon as i update my twitter it reboots sense.
i'm disabling twitter for now to see if it has any effect, also contacting htc support as htc peep is their app
same trouble here - when i disable twitter sense works fine.. anyone else seeing this ?
my symptoms were very different though.. sense doesnt re-load - it just freezes me out about 10 minutes after every soft reset.. once i disabled auto-retrive on peep, it worked smooth enough, but the moment i tried retrieving tweets after last night - it froze up again.. now i've tried deleting the twitter cache in my temp file - but i dont think thats helped..
any ideas ?
I've had my UK o2 HD2 since Nov last year and have had no problems with Peep until today, but now it just relaunches Sense everytime it tries to update (which I've set to every 15mins) - I presume many others are having the same problem, so hope a fix or solution is provided soon!
:-(
Same problem here, when I want to update Peep, it crashes manila.exe.
So far I know it's because Twitter made a change in their security system.
It makes a lot of users and developers confusing right now.
I hope this will be fixed soon!
I am having the same issue. I've had my phone since start of year. No issues (like this). Running latest offical O2 rom from HTC site.
Whenever I try to update twitter HTC Sense crashes and restarts. I originally was worried that it was caused by the update to fix the calaender (which I had just installed before checking my twitter at around 5pm GMT). But seeing that you are all having issues I digged a little deeper.
This is what seems to be true
The problem only appears to be when checking "All Tweets" (Which is the main screen) and not when checking "Mentions", "Direct Messages" or "Favorites". I can even update Twitter but it crashes when trying to retrieve the messages again.
So the problem is that a server (either Peeps or Twitter) is not working right. Our Peep clients can access the server but are causing a failed responce. This is causing Peep to crash and take Sense with it (As the apps are closely linked). I guess we need to sit tight and wait for either an update for HTC (If the way PEEP works is chanigng) or for the server to be fixed.
Dear Adam Turvey,
It may be just a temporary glitch, can you try a soft reset, by removing the battery while the device is on. Leave the battery out for 30 seconds then try again.

any ideas anyone HTC dont seem to know
i've copied them a link to this thread too
on a side note i'm also getting "Windows Live Hotmail is temporarily unavailable. Please try again." since this has been happening with peep
Well the issues seems to have gone away now. Just checked again and it's all working.
Guessing the above post about Twitter security update/issues may have been true and the people who run Peep needed to make changes.
Still same problem here!...
Someone discovered any solution...?
still have this issue - am trying few diff things
have just
logged out of my account on peep
disabled twitter tab in home tabs options
then delete the device/temp/twiteng folder and
rebooted phone
revoked access for htc peep from twitter connections via web
re enabled twitter in the home tabs
and logged in to twitter again
Code:

CRASH sense.....
anyone else got any ideas ?
MoTweets & PocketTwit is working.. seems like a silent update from HTC Peep/HTC Manilla/Twitter which is wrong..
Looks like the connection to Twitter is working well.. at least, from my GF her Desire Peep is working..
Well mine is still working. What you might want to do is try the following
1) Sroll to Settings then pick Data Services.
2) Turn off twitter.
3) Go back to the Settings HTC Sense tab and click Menu at the bottom and All Settings.
4) Click the Today icon and then go to items. Turning off HTC Sense.
5) Load file explorer click "Menu" and turn on "Show All Files". If you haven't already.
6) Delete the TwittEng folder from c:\Temp.
7) Delete the Twitter folder from c:\Application Data\HTC.
8) Reboot device.
9) Turn HTC Sense back on via Start > Settings > Today etc.
10) Reconnect to Twitter using the log on via the Twitter HTC Sense tab (I did this via a wi-fi connection instead of the mobile network shouldn't make any difference but hey)
11) Then rechecked via mobile connection.
After this I've rebooted the phone and Peep is still working over Wi-Fi and GSM/HSDPA

Sadly that didn't worked, but thanks for giving us this option to try
To be honest I think what I did was just at the point an issue somewhere else was being resolved may on the server my account is on.
I'm guessing that the issue has been solved but the fix is having to work it's way through the servers/accounts. All I can say is hold on and wait it should be good by tomorrow.

Reading your post you didn't delete the Twitter folder in Application Data/HTC*
I found that when I first deleted it before clearing out the rest of the stuff when I was downloading the tweets that it would download just one of the user images again. There was also in the folder /Application Data/HTC/Twitter/TempPhoto was some sort of crap/corrupted image.
It might be worth just checking those. Like I said before I dod those steps and it works again. However is the problem is server based then it won't mean crap.
* Sorry got you mixed up with SilverRook. But again just check to make sure.
Solution for me: Log in to Twitter with Opera Mobile (twitter.com), and log out again. then Peep worked fine again.

Facebook app - news feed displaying wrong, no status updates?

Anyone else having this problem with the facebook app on their HD2?
All status updates in the news feed appear to be wall posts to the same user (see pic attached).
Also Status Updates are just blank.
I've tried full reset, removing my memory card, and literally just installing the facebook app (from marketplace) and I still get the same issue.
oh, the same on my Facebook Client...
same here, this was reported in the energy rom thread too.
seems to be an error at facebooks end and theres not much we can do....
I would recommend using touch.facebook.com in the meantime....
LOL, yeah got the same here, glad it's not just me,
Also using the energy rom here,
I've got the same... It's such a mess now
Same here.,really messes it up.,hopefully they will fix soon
seems to be working again!
I have this problem, but it hasn't started working again for me! If I log out and back in, it will gather updates once, but then it will stop working again!
Arghhhhhh!
I have the same problem with updates, my app won't update at all even if I hit refresh.
log out of facebook and log back in every time you want it to update. or use your browser.

Gmail stuck in outbox

I have an N7 3g. I'm using MoDaCa's JR-4. Outgoing emails continually get stuck in the outbox and don't go out. I think it has something to do with N7. I have never had this problem with other android cell phones, PC, etc.
Is there a solution?
Thanks
I have had this problems on phones before, but not yet on the N7 *knocks on wood.
First I would check your sync settings to make sure all is appropriate.
The way I was able to remedy the situation was to either uninstall gmail, and reinstall, or just uninstall the latest update. I haven't had that fail me yet. You could also try clearing data, cache, and force stop the app from settings first.
(may require reboot after)
Good luck!
i had this issue in Gmail today on the N7 running a CM 10.1 nightly. i used to see this a lot as well on Gingerbread, and uninstalling the app/clearing data in the app does work but makes you lose the draft you had written(which sucks if it was a long one!). i used to solve it by clicking reply and creating a dummy message in the same thread, saving that message as a draft, then going into my drafts folder and the message that got stuck would have an option to send... or something like that, and that worked. however, i couldn't seem to get it to work today, on Gmail 4.1.2 fortunately my stuck message today was small, so i just cleared data in the app and rewrote it, and it did send then.
You could also just highlight the whole draft and copy, then paste when done. It should be copied to your clip board and not the gmail app. I suppose it is always safer to save it somewhere before deleting, though I would think if you were going to do that, you would want to save the copy in a different app like ever note.

I'll try that here on Jelly Bean next time, but that actually wasn't possible before. When the message got stuck sending, it was in a limbo state where the text of the message wasn't accessible to be copied! I definitely tried that because i lost some pretty long drafts!

I have rolled back gmail to the earlier version several times but it keeps updating behind my back and emails become stuck in the outbox again. Also, although I'm currently using JR-4, I have CM-10, PA, and stock rooted ROMS nandroided. I could restore any of them and test, but I'm pretty certain it's ubiquitous. It's either the gmail app or android 4.21.
Also, I have a Galaxy Note 2. 2 versions of gmail are installed: 1.0 and 4.21, and emails don't get stuck. N7 only has has 4.21 installed. Why doesn't N7 also have 1.0 installed?
Also, I just cleared cache and data and the email is resynching. I'm certain that the problem will return. I love the N7, but this is really annoying.

Is there a particular version of Gmail that works better? If so, have you gone into your market settings and disabled automatic updating? I've been running the 4.1.2 version for a long time now, and it never updates to 4.2. I also disabled update notifications so it doesn't bug me at all.
But yeah, it's an annoying issue. Sometimes i turn to K9 Mail, as it works great for Gmail accounts. Plus i love the dark theme option. In the end i like the way native Gmail synchs tho.

Thanks for your help. How can I downgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.1.2? I think that will work until Google addresses this issue. The Disable link inside "App Info" used to show this downgrade capability. However, that text was probably there when I was using a different Rom. I have MoDaCa JR-4 running now and I think I want to keep it.
I think if you flashed a ROM that came with 4.2, you won't have the option to uninstall updates. In any case, i posted 4.1.2 in the 3rd to last post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005006. You can just uninstall 4.2 and install 4.1.2 if you wish. I will warn you tho, I did have the stuck sending issue yesterday, but I think that was the first time.

Yep, you might even want to disable automatic updating first, haha. And If I remember correctly, the apk installs just by tapping install, no need to paste it into /sysyem/app, I don't think...

Thanks for all your help. It's all setup. How long do you it will before Google fixes this problem and I can go back to automatic updating?

Bad news 4.1.2 emails are now stuck in outbox.
This happens because Google wants to take over your e-mail service; in other words you must be using your Android or smartphone's e-mail app instead of Google's GMAIL App. There are two fixes to this problem, first is to download Goggle's GMAIL App and use that for email communication; and second is to ask google to allow 'less secure' apps i.e. non-google to access your e-mails (i know!) Here are the steps for the second option:
Allowing less secure apps to access your account
Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe.
Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:
The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below
The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird
Change account access for less secure apps
To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options:
Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps:
Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.)
If you still can't sign in to your account, the "password incorrect" error might be caused by a different reason.
