I recently got an S5 from Cricket/AIO. Was wondering if it was the same as the AT&T version because I wanted to root and put a custom ROM onto it.

Most of us have no direct experience with Cricket because it's not a natiomal carrier. It's only an option for a limited number of US zip codes.
Looking at the specs, starting with the model number - SM-G900AZKZAIO strongly suggest that it's just a rebranded ATT 900A model. And sure enough the specs say that your phone uses all of the same frequency bands.
So the overwhelming chances are that it's ATT compatible in all significant aspects.

Just picked one of these up on Black Friday. Care to share your experience with custom roms for this model? Did the Roms/root for the Att variant work okay? Thanks in advance!

I would be very interested to know as well and thank you for starting this thread. Looking at the settings I see the USB TETHERING and WIFI TETHERING is completely missing from the settings altogether. Thats one main reason I want to root so I can actually use my data outside of the phone. Plus the boot animation is Cricket branded. So its not just a relabeled AT&T phone. The model number also ends in 900AZ not 900A like the AT&T version. The kernel is NE7 thought.
I also found this thread:

Hello,
This is a newbie question. Is it possible to convert Cricket Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-R970C to a TMobile version of S4. I know Cricket uses CDMA and Tmobile uses GSM but someone told me that S4 is the same device and only software is different between carriers. Can someone let me know if this is even possible?
thanks

The guy at cricket told me they use a different type sim card so I don't know if it's possible

I believe it is safe to assume you may add t-mobile elements software wise but the radios are different the cricket version is CDMA and T-mobile runs off of GSM which is completely different technology, so compatibility is a no go its litterally two different devices at that point, may be able to flash to sprint or verizon that works with cdma but even that im not too sure with
Hope that helps

why don't you just decompile a Tmobile ROM and just take the system.img.ext4 and recompile it? I did that to a USCC stock ROM and flashed it over to my Sprint L720 and it works perfectly.

no bueno homie
you cannot use the T-mo version on CKT, or vice-versa
This is an old thread I know,.
Is there anymore information on this? I have read it can be done.
From cricket to t-mobile galaxy s4
cricket galaxy s4 schr970c
I would love to take this phone to a different carrier. I realize that the cdma is an issue but there had to be another carrier that I can switch to. Does any one know how I can switch carriers using this same phone?
Yeah, i have the same question as this. Would i risk bricking my phone if i tried loading a tmobile rom and modem to my cricket phone?
Bumping this older thread cuz I see no resolution and I have a similar question...
In my research I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2409392
-The OP flashed an i9505 rom onto his R970C cricket GS4, but apparently he found it doesn't alter the modem/radio firmware, and THAT is what is different in our Cricket phones.
However, I personally am looking NOT to use this phone on a GSM network (T-mobile)..but on a CDMA (ideally Page Plus/VZW)..for that it would seem the radio is the same! -And actually I found this quote on a different forum (cricket user one):
"Cricket Galaxy S4(SCH-r970c) uses MDM9615M RF chip which includes GSM functionality which is the same chip found on Verizon Galaxy S4(SCH-i545)
Anyone try flashing a VZW firmware and also VZW modem firmware? -risk to brick it I'm sure..but, then again..maybe it just works!

Aloha brother!
I haven't done that in a long time. If you are interested in it, let me know. It's a little bit more complicated to do especially with the bringing of Samsung Knox but I feel I can try my best to help. If you still need my help, reply to this and I'll offer as much help as I can. Making far balls is easy; but getting them to be applied with correct settings is a pain the the you know what.

Hello, I may be having trouble finding the info, but I am hoping to find a good, clean ROM for my AT&T Galaxy Tab 4 8 inch tablet (SM-T337A). I have rooted it, and the main reason I want a new ROM is to make sure I can unlock it when I dump AT&T for T-Mobile, so other options to do that would be appreciated, also. Thanks for any help!
I have a Galaxy Tab 4 from AT&T as well. As far as I can tell, the device has a locked bootloader, and there hasn't been a development effort to try to bypass it. So, in the meantime, we're unable to install custom ROMs. Thanks AT&T.

If you just want to use it on TMO, you can have it unlocked. I had mine unlocked (I had to use a third party unlock service because AT&T wouldn't do it for some reason). But, just so you know, it is not eligible for the free 200mb plan yet. I made a request to TMO to add this device to the list so I can sign up for it. If you want to go for paid plans, it works just fine.
Hello all. I am new to the world of android and would like some assistance with a topic - flashing stock firmware.
I bought an AT&T S6 Edge+ outright and absolutely love the phone. Except that it's filled with all sorts of AT&T apps and certain functionalities of the phone is disabled. I researched the topic of flashing the firmware to another region/carrier's stock firmware and it seems that this is a possible route to "debranding" the phone. However I also learned that AT&T locks the boot loader. Will this have any impact on me flashing the ROM with another firmware for this model?
Thanks for all the advice and patience!:good:

Not possible
Device specific firmware is on carrier devices so if you try to put kor or T-Mobile or whatever on one the american s6 or edge then I believe its the bricks for you...I also believe if you have a clean imei the carrier will unlock it for you don't hurt to try ..the story is you may have to be on their network activated and also if you purchased through the payment option after its paid off it can be unlocked ..debranded whatever

Do what I done, Sell the phone on Swappa, Ebay, Amazon or Craigslist & purchase
an international version of the S6 Edge+ or any other Samsung International phone.
They all come factory unlocked and very easy to root.
The only feature the T-Mobile users will no longer have
is the wifi calling. Being rooted is an excellent trade-off
for the wifi calling feature unless you live in the middle
of no-where. LOL
All the other features work just as good in all the
international phones as with the branded phones.
Good luck and have a great evening!
Hi all -
I posted this question on CM forums - they suggest I also try here - I have a Cricket Galaxy S4 - post AT&T buyout. It is a GSM/LTE phone using CM11 and a Cricket SIM card. I was wondering if I am limited to CM11, or if I wanted to upgrade to CM13, would I just use the current jlfteatt builds? Anyone out there in a similar situation?
Thanks!

What's the exact phone model?
Since it already has CM11 you should also be able to get CM13 on it.
Both the "about phone" and sticker behind the battery say SGH-I337. Sorry for being noobish about it, but is that what you are referring to? I know the S4s cell in different flavors, but otherwise I just think it is the garden variety S4. I guess my main concern is all the talk about the basebsnd versions. Mine doesn't match exactly, but not sure if that is just about rooting the phone. I am of the same mindset that it should work if I have 11, but I can't afford to brick my phone just from a time perspective (never mind money as well ) but I want the shiny upgrade sooooo badly....?
Thanks!

There's nothing you can do about the basebands and bootloader. If you update them your device might get locked and no custom roms or root can flashed anymore.
Sincthe the phone already has CM11 I assume it isn't locked. So just flash a newer recovery (TWRP) and flash CM13.
Hello. I recently purchased an unlocked Galaxy S8. The model number is SM-G950FD. I am wondering if it is possible that I can be able to put the North American Tmobile Rom on it. Reason is that since I am using on TMO, I dont have access to VOLTE or WiFi Calling. Is there any workaround to be able to activate and or use?

Its built into to the ROM. I have it on mine and I have both cricket and tmo as,service providers. Never use tmo tho or eofi calling or volte since for me, my 3G connection is more faster and better Call signal, than 4G lte

Ok. But my phone is the international one. The options to activate and or turn on the features are not there. How can I accomplish this? Any and all help would be appreciated
You would root the phone and then install TKKG1994's CSC selection and choose XAA or XAA>TMB
In reality this is a phone defining decision: Rooting means no samsung pay. hint, 950fd can handle everything that a 950f can
Likely you would want to run a custom rom with the rooting. That means (with root) no more automatic system updates from samsung. Instead you would come here and update the rom as the developer pushes updates.
I do run this setup, presently using a 950F + TKKG's Ironman (note 8 port) rom + S8 XAA CSC from TKKG1994's S8 CSC's selection on T-mobile with volte and wifi calling. I have also run the Batman rom +S8 TMB CSC with the same success.

Excellent setup! Idk how Samsung pay is broken, Magisk root doesn't affect Sammy pay. Least not for me. But heither to, why would anyone use Sammy pay when android pay is more optimal? Just my personal thoughts on it. I know before it messed it up and certain apps wouldn't work like pogo and Mario run due to root but since than all seems golden and all apps work now. I live in the US so Sammy pay doesn't work on a UK s8+ by default. Even before i initially rooted anyways didnt work but the concept is the same for those overseas. Root or no root. To the OP in question, I wouldn't let a downfall of an app stop you from rooting. So much you can do, dual speaker mod, camera mod, youtube with no ads and background play, etc. Its amazing!
For the 2nd, the #1 ROM in my thoughts for speed, smoothness and customizable is without a doubt kingrom v7. V2 is a tad better but 7 is where its at. I've been on every rom except Google edition and I love kingrom. Was on Batman for a time howver the overall feel and smoothness, was eh. downloads and everything else wasn't up to par plus my downloads were slow compared to kingrom and king has some snappy load times much like the s5 had on twist3d sixx rom. I do run a different set up/debloat than most anyone probably. But for what it is, love it!
Kingrom + king kernel + modded settings, my own custom splash screen and boot screen along with dual speaker with aryamod plus camera mod is simply amazing! I use the CSC BTU unbranded since for me it pulls the best signal for where I'm at and I love it.
