I recently got an S5 from Cricket/AIO. Was wondering if it was the same as the AT&T version because I wanted to root and put a custom ROM onto it.

Most of us have no direct experience with Cricket because it's not a natiomal carrier. It's only an option for a limited number of US zip codes.
Looking at the specs, starting with the model number - SM-G900AZKZAIO strongly suggest that it's just a rebranded ATT 900A model. And sure enough the specs say that your phone uses all of the same frequency bands.
So the overwhelming chances are that it's ATT compatible in all significant aspects.

Just picked one of these up on Black Friday. Care to share your experience with custom roms for this model? Did the Roms/root for the Att variant work okay? Thanks in advance!

I would be very interested to know as well and thank you for starting this thread. Looking at the settings I see the USB TETHERING and WIFI TETHERING is completely missing from the settings altogether. Thats one main reason I want to root so I can actually use my data outside of the phone. Plus the boot animation is Cricket branded. So its not just a relabeled AT&T phone. The model number also ends in 900AZ not 900A like the AT&T version. The kernel is NE7 thought.
I also found this thread:

Hello, I have a Galaxy S5 from cricket. Samsung-SM-G900AZ with a 5.0 Android Version. Can someone help me root it?
I've successfully rooted and installed the unified blisspop from here on my 900az. It was a long time ago. I think I had to use odin...

Get all the perks of ATT coverage but with an unlocked bootloader.
Im trying to figure out what I can do with my Cricket S5, (Sm-G900AZ) a few other threads here seem to indicate that its merely a rebranded AT&T Firmware but nothing concrete. Im just wondering if i can use ATT roms and kernels with the cricket version without issue?

Hello everyone,
Sorry if this was posted already - I am typing this up in between other projects and I wanted to put something out here so I wouldn't forget. This last weekend, I purchased a used Galaxy S5 CDMA phone branded by US Cellular. I searched and searched for a way to unlock it but I was not able to find anything that worked for me. My phone is currently running Android 4.4.2 and none of the *# dial codes would do anything for me. Finally I was near a local US Cellular today so I brought my phone in and they unlocked the SIM for me so I can use it with other carriers. I haven't had a chance to go through the phone yet after the unlock, but I plan on looking at it tonight when I get home to find out if I can figure out how it was unlocked so I can share that info with anyone on the site who would like to unlock their SM-G900R4. I'm hoping that during their unlocking process, the hidden menus were left visible so I can look at the phone's file structure. I'll report back as soon as I know more.

Just a quick follow up... I didn't have a chance to go through my phone extensively last night, but I did see something that may or may not be of interest. When I got my phone back after being unlocked, there was an icon for mceFramework. When I clicked on it, it ran in the upper corner of the phone and when I swiped down it said it would be uninstalled. From what I have read about it, it has really nothing to do with the unlocking of the phone though.
Depending on what time I get home tonight will determine if I get to really dig into the phone tonight or not. I'm hoping there is something I will be able to find that will be useful. The US Cellular phone is a bit different though, as I mentioned before regarding the *# codes... No matter what *# codes I try, they do not work... even something as simple as *#060# does nothing on my phone - even after being unlocked. If I find something, I'll report back.

Hello, I came across this thread and just thought I'd share how I was able to unlock my Galaxy s5 Mini (US Cellular). I tried just about everything, but what finally worked was simply flashing the stock rom which can be found at the sammobile site. Use 'Odin', instructions included on the website.

Hello -- stock rom by model number. I think in most cases this is just stock Android for the carrier of specified model, minus bloatware and network lock. Well, I correct myself -- there may be some bloatware, but certainly less than what was there after performing the factory reset. The link to 'sm-g900r4' rom is at sammobile(dotcom), firmwares, search for model number -- and download latest version.
In my case, phone model is 'sm-g800r4' (US Cellular). Everywhere I looked online suggested that I had to contact US Cellular and request instructions for unlocking, but they will only do this if you have the original sim card. So, I finally flashed the stock rom using Odin, following very basic instructions (included on the rom site). After flashing, I still had the US Cellular splash screen, but my verizon sim suddenly worked with the device. Next step for me -- root and replace that ugly US Cellular splash screen with the gorgeous lollipop boot animation. Very nice.
If you need assistance with specific instructions let me know, and I can provide a quick summary.
Simple instructions, great site to join for US Cell users.

Did you ever figure out a way to unlock your phone?
Hey everyone, I been looking around the forums here and other sites and have learned a lot of info in pieces but I really need help with a particular issue. A friend of mine gave me a Sprint Galaxy SM-G900P (Galaxy S5) which is (of course) CDMA with GSM compatibility. Im unsure at the moment what service he was wanting to use but I know it is a GSM carrier (US) because he has a SIM he wanted to use. I owe him a favor so I told him I would try. Besides going the route of purchasing a unlock box and unlocking the phone with that, I discovered the SSU apk which SIM-Unlocks the phone. I downgraded the phone from Lollipop 5.0 stock to Android 4.4.2 KitKat (G900PVPU1ANE5) with ODIN. (FYI, i was stuck in download mode with no recovery mode for a week before finally getting one to work, and so happen to be that version that went through)..... I downloaded SSU and it unlocked the phone and I switched mobile network mode from CDMA to GSM Units. (NOTE: it says 4.4.2 and up will not work with USA carrier SIM cards without downgrading the Modem but I have not tried just yet) Im about to Root the phone but here is where my question comes in. I have read of people flashing roms to get their phones to work with certain carriers and other functions. Will rooting help me out at all? I guess IM asking if there is a ROM that I can flash onto the phone to enable the use of whatever carrier he is wanting to use with it. I know thats most likely useful in the situation, but Im awaiting that answer as we type. ANY help would be greatly appreciated ))) Thank you all.
Anyone? :/
I have a G900V bootloader unlocked currently running CM 13 and I would like to add Sprint CDMA & LTE bands so I can use a The Peoples Operator SIM card in an area that has better Sprint coverage than VZW. I read over this Guide on adding GSM & LTE Bands to the G900V and calculated the binaries to add the bands:
CDMA 0,1,10
LTE 2,4,13,25,26,41
CDMA Binary 10000000010
LTE Binary 100000000000000110000000000010000000010100
All set to go but I can't seem to get figure out how to get into USB Settings to change from AP to CP and MTP + ADB to RNDIS + DM + Modem, the dialer codes just don't seem to work even after changing efs/carrier/hiddenmenu from OFF to ON. I took a look at EFS Pro but it doesn't seem to have an option to Change from AP to CP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If your trying to get into diag mode this will do it running cm13.

Thank yo for the link. Sadly I couldn't get the scripts to work on my G900V S5 CM13. But that link ended up leading me to this one CM13 QPST Editing files is a little above my paygrade so to speak, I've been following directions for years but still a total newb at most of this stuff but I am hoping I'm on the right track.

I run DIAG.SH and it just hangs there. I think I am going to do a fresh install of CM13 later this week and give it another shot.
this is what i'm trying to figure out, because i can get a good local S5 VZW but SPR use different LTE bands.
i know typically the saying is never flash anything for a different carrier of your model, but some people seem to do it with a ymmv statement, wondering if this may be the easier route to get it to just work like a native phone.
i've read several threads from people talking about carrier rom swap, some casually saying sure it can work, but no updates from OPs or others that said they would try, definitively saying that it worked or failed.
so... has anyone literally gotten something like the Odin flashable firmware at sammobile or someplace for the Verizon VZW sm-g900v and flashed it with the Sprint SPR sm-g900p stock firmware, completely changing its baseband, modem, everything so it now identifies and works the same as a Sprint phone?
or should i just keep waiting for another similarly cheap S5 bundle in a Sprint flavor?
Did you try *#0808#

I've never added any bands to my G900V myself but, I do know that it's plausible to do this.
From what I can tell, the only bands that are needed that the SM-G900P has vs the SM-G900V are specific to the 4G LTE.
Though I did confirm this using a few different locations, I believe that the following link is the best choice in viewing the comparisons between the two devices.
https://www.phonemore.com/compare/p...m-g900v-vs-samsung-galaxy-s5-sm-g900p/4561723
With that guidance...
The following link is one of the Guides available on the forum for adding Bands to a GS5. It was closed but, not because it wasn't working. It was closed because of the negative interactions from various members in there but, the guide and downloads are still good.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2886059
Please Note the success stories on the second post...
The following is another guide as well. Though, it's located within the Galaxy Note 4 area, you could say that the Galaxy Note 4 is the "Note" counterpart to the Galaxy S5.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3160864
Please Note that the OP does reflect some S5 information as well...
Those are just 2 thread examples to help accomplish what you're looking to do.
I do wish you the best of luck and hopefully the next post here will reflect your success!

thanks for the double check.
it looks like those are some of the threads and sites i've looked through already as i wanted to be sure i had the proper lte bands that the Sprint model came with, and it seemed possible.
however, with the increasing coverage of cybersecurity, i am increasingly hesitant the more closed source and leaked tools are involved (especially when i see some thread guides that have a mod edit for malicious download link removal).
i suppose i should just pass on the Verizon listing, and wait to spot a similarly good deal from a local person selling their personally cared for Sprint S5 plus spare battery charger case and 2nd battery all under $100 (i'm sure you can understand why i wanted to "make it work", hehe).
