[Q] I9500 in boot loop - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Earlier today, I completely drained my battery and turned it on again. It shut down after this due to the battery being on 0%. I plugged it into the charger and now it's in a boot loop, meaning it shows the "Samsung Galaxy S4" start up, then completely reboots. I can't seem to boot into recovery mode (PhilZ) and whenever I boot into download mode, the phone restarts after a while.
I'm running a CM 11 nightly from April and haven't had any problems. Can anyone help me get my phone going again?

I have determined that it is indeed a power button issue, as I can boot into download mode by just using volume down and the home button, but the power button isn't stuck or anything and is still clickable. Any ideas?

Hi ,
you could try to clean it with a contact cleaner ( take battery out first) , do not use to much , watch out for the screen or take it to a service shop and have it replace, should not be too expensive

I don't really have any of that nearby, will have to take it for repairs. This should teach me to invest in a set of those small screw drivers

I never leave home without them !!
good luck.

Bought the necessary tools today, and I completely removed the button (not the soldered one) and the problem persisted, these are sad days. Samsung store refuses to fix it because of root.

Hi,
They should it has nothing to do with root ...is a hardware problem
Any way as you open it up try to clean it up with a contact cleaner ( specially made for electronics) or with some 70% solution alcohol , no battery let it dry , do not get soak the display , maybe is just dirt !!

Thanks to both you and Max for going through the effort of trying to help me out, I've hit that thanks button. I've fixed my problem by draining the battery (this takes forever in a boot loop), put the phone on charge and immediately went into the download mode. I exited the download mode and for some unknown reason it decided to actually work.
I've spent money on a tool kit and tweezers though (around $12 or 10 euros, I believe), but had the privilege of tweaking around on the inside, so that was a learning experience.

[Q] I9500 stuck in reboot loop, can't even do a hard reset

Hi guys,
i was just using my I9500, and out of nowhere it just turned off and keeps on turning off the screen then lighting up to the galaxy logo then off again
tried to hard reset the phone (vol up, home and power) and to enter download mode (it does enter download mode for just a sec then restarts again.
when i connect the charger it keeps on displaying the empty battery pic and tries to stuck again and repeat (starting from the empty battery image), although its at least 30% charged
help guys .. thanks in advance
Have you tried removing battery?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
Oh my this problem seems to be very popular. Anyway, it's happened to me before. Leave the battery out for like a day or two and then try it again.
@myawan
Yea, but just as soon as I insert it again it starts on its own and keeps doing this loop
 @MacSual
a day or two ! I already left it for a few hours it didn't change a thing !
You have a faulty power button, a damaged battery or some other hardware damage. My guess would be number 1 or 2.

[Q] Dead S4

Okay three days back my phone went into a sudden bootlop displaying the boot logo after every 2 exact seconds leaving me unable to enter recovery or download mode. Got it checked. They said some IC was damaged. No details though. They charged some 1600 indian rupees or 26 USD
Yesterday wifi bluetooth wont turn on speaker won't work. So i was going to have it checked today. i woke up this morning restarted the phone and it went into bootlop like it did previously. battery was 43% when it did. within a minute the phone was dead. Simply nothing works. Charging it doesn't show anything. Holding power button does nothing. When connected to charger no part of the phone gets warm enough to indicate something is going on. Last time it was rebooting but able to boot in recovery they replaced motherboard and charged 12000 INR or 195 USD
Has anybody ever had similar experience?
Any way to get it fixed cheap? Or is it simply unrecoverable?

No its not stuck. The phone is now completely dead. just simpl wont start. wont even show offscreen charging animation.
Charge your battery from desktop charger. Then place back to phone and go directly to download mode, by pressing volume down and power button at the same time. Afterwards, flash latest firmware from odin.

It does not switch on. Checked te usb port nothing wrong there. strangely enough. it booted once 9 minutes after pressing the power button. i scrolled the app list and straightway went into whatsapp and now its dead again. this time though the battery does not even become warm when i charge it unlike before.
You should bring it to a service centre if possible as it may be a hardware issue.

Help i9505 won´t boot (recovery, bootloader, normal boot)

Help please,
Today i was using may phone as torch for 10 second then suddenly the screen went black but the led light on the back kept lightning.
after 10 more seconds the phone showed the i9505 splash screen at boot but went off after one second. i pulled out the battery for 1 minute (it was fully charged) and did put it back in. then again the bootscreen saying i9505 for a sec and the screen went black again. i tried entering the recovery but the same fail. recovery booting message and after 1 second phone went off. i tried entering download mode (vol down) and the download mode starts but after 1 second the phone is off. i tried it several times, with the charger but the phone wont charge while its off. can please some one help me?
i use latest cm11 kt all in one recovery latest bootloader and googy max kernel. and i cant use odin because the bootloader(download mode) is only present for 1 second.:crying:
Take out your battery and check serial number if it starts with BD it's a bad battery.
If it's BD you now need to get in touch with Samsung official and you are eligible for free replacement.

it starts with AA. never had any battery related issues. but thank you for your reply
this guy has the exact same issue. i hope we get it fixed soon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVBJh2CBe1A
some say the power button is stuck while it was pressed
some say the battery is defected
I fixed it my self the power button wasnt defect. i dont even know what it was i just tapped hard with my nail around the back camera and it booted succesfully after i pressed the power button. can anybody imagine what it was
OMG I had the exact same issue! I was searching for my soccer ball and used the torch for around 30sec and suddenly the phone went blank. I thought it was a dead battery but it turnt out it wasnt! I cant fix it now:crying: Using Dans GPE5 ROM with googy kernel. I know neither of them are to blame, but seeing that the torch could be a suspect
EDIT: LOLOL I tapped the phone just like you did and it was fixed! What a mystery!

S7 Bricked? Won't boot, doesn't appear to charge

As title states, have a sm-g935f running stock firmware that won't boot.
Had issues with it freezing and rebooting so re-flashed stock firmware, has run fine for approximately 3 weeks now when suddenly, whilst installing swiftkey it froze, then turned off. Had roughly 50% charge at this point. Have googled for hours now, tried different button combinations for varying lengths of time to try to boot. Have left it to charge for 2 hours and have just had another crack at it. Charge indicator does not appear on screen when plugged in, led at top of display does nothing at any point.
I'm out of ideas at this point, really could use the expertise of the greater xda community now, this is my only phone and its unusable right now leaving me connectivity-ly stranded.
Thanks in advanced for the help guys :cyclops:
Can u boot into Recovery mode?
No, it does nothing at all. It won't even attempt to turn on
So brick it is.
Boot it into Download mode by pressing Vol Down + Home key and Power Key. Then open Smartswitch app click preferences and click emergency recovery follow the steps then
I also had this problem. Basically you need to follow SjDU. If you cannot get into download mode. Try and leave the phone uncharged for 24 hours. Then charge for about 30 min and try to get into download mode.

Why thank you, so helpful
Thanks guys, ill leave for 24 hours, i just have no way of knowing whether its uncharged or not, it really gives nothing at all regardless of what i do. Not even a slight vibrate when i plug it into a charger or pc.
regardless, ill leave it and report back
Thanks
Hi,
It seems to me that it's really dead, give a try at leaving it uncharged for a few hours and then trying again.
However I wouldn't hold my expectations up, I had a similar problem with the Galaxy S4, phone was constant freezing after a Stock flash (I was using custom ROM before), then tried to restart the phone, phone got stuck and removed battery. Turned out bootloader died and I had to flash it again using JTAG (S4 was pretty easy to open up).
I hope that you won't need to use a JTAG Flash, since it needs to open the device and obviously S7 is pretty hard to get to the circuit. An easy option is trying an USB JIG to get to download mode (that is, if your phone has charge - hence you will need to try first the option others suggested - and a working bootloader), you can easily find this device for less than 5 dollars on eBay.
Hope you get your beloved device working again.
All the best,
~Lord

S7 Edge isn't turning on

Hello.
So, I recently updated my phone 2 days ago for the first time after 2017, and the battery ran out while it was updating, and then it was boot looping and kept getting stuck at 28%.
I decided to reinstall the os on it (I installed the official rom that the phone came with). At first, everything seemed normal until I plugged it and after a while, the led indicator was showing that it was still charging but after I unplugged it from the charger, the light was still on and the screen was completely black and unresponsive.
After a while, the light shut off and after that, it never came on. I tried everything to get it on again: tried hard rebooting, trying to get into recovery, charging with different types of cables and with wireless charging also, basically every combination that came to mind. When I used the wireless charger, it showed that it was charging, but no signs of life on the phone. Samsung support wasn't that much of a help either, they only asked if I used a cable that worked on it and if the phone was water damaged or had any cracks.
Any help will be appreciated!!!
bump

by putting the phone into download mode
Connect usb (not charger) hold vol- + home + power, release power after 5 sec n continue holding vol- + home . If download mode appears flash phone with same csc firmware. If no downlooad mode probably battery or emmc fault.

If its an emmc failed qualcomm cpu S7e , pc will detect as qualcomm 9008 port.
