Smartwear radiation - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm just curious, what are potential health hazzards wearing all this smartwear 24/7 like smartband? It's bluetooth tech but is laying totally on the skin. And all this area(wifi,bluetooth...) of potential problems is totally grey...

First: there are not smartbands with android wear yet.
Second: If you are really concerned about the EM-emission you should go live in the woods. You're surrounded by it anyway, whether you wear a smart device or not. Phones, TV, WIFI routers, telephone signals, microwaves etc etc. You know where this is going. The power of the bluetooth connection is incredibly small compared to the power eg microwaves give out. In our modern world you can't protect yourself against this kind of radiation. Maybe wear a tinfoil hat.

Why do you think that? wireless transmission exists since 1896 and there hasn't been a single case where someone got ill from it.

I have smartband SWR10. But you're right, wrong subforum apparently, not android wear..
Don't be so cinical. You would shurely like to put me in a "Chemtrails bucket" but please don't. Currently there are no evidence that prolong exposure to routers and bluetooth is causing illness. And so is the opposite, there are no evidence that prolong exposure to routers and bluetooth is not causing illness because people do get seriously ill... Microwaves do radiate but we are using them rarely(I cook very often so don't need microwave often), on wifi router I'm not sitting, so am not sitting on mobile phone or carrying it in my pocket, also with TV there is a distance over 3m... This bluetooth is in use all the time and totally on the skin so maybe it builds up over time in a tissue I know what you are talking about and that all that emiting crap is around us all the time but the strenght of emission do fall with higher distance from the source... Also the air is poluted so yea, you are right but why put more oil on the fire?
As for woods, the day will come when we will all wish to go live in the woods but there will be no woods, just scorched earth or big brader at the other end

Hm I really don't like that way of arguing. In my opinion things that haven't been proven don't exist, so yea I don't believe in god because of this either (please don't hate me ^^). So if there is no evidence that it causes illness why think it does? It's hard to prove that they don't cause any harm, because that's kind of the definition. How do you prove the non-existence of something?
I see you point that if things are new there is not enough evidence for either of both opinions but as I said wireless technologies like wlan or bluetooth in our phones / watches / TVs / etc really aren't new anymore. They have been around for quite some time (10+ years for the new ones like bluetooth and way longer for general wireless transmission) and no one found any actual evidence for them being harmful in any way, simply because the power they emit is way too low compared to the energy that is around as all the time anyway. One might as well be frightened of the radioactive emissions from our universe.. I think I made my point here Feel free to think otherwise xD

I'm not gonna hate you and you again are impleing that with "bucket of believers" thing. Don't do that, god has nothing to do with this and we are closer in thoughts in that subject
Nevertheless, maybe he is sending deep space radiation, who knows, the mass histeria is surelly present...
Just kidding... (on this,I was serious on subject)

If I were to be worried about anything, it would be the cell networks. I mean think about it, every carrier's network - 2G, 3G and LTE/4G - are constantly coursing through and around you. But in the end, it's totally harmless. We're bombarded with huge ranges of frequencies all day long and there isn't so much as a hint of damage.

this is a joke... right?
this is a joke, right? i mean, the food that you eat is more likely to cause you harm than Bluetooth LE, or radio waves for that matter.

The most of food that I eat is mine and is home grown in country side

(To several posters in general)
The OP does have a legitimate question and shouldn't be written off as a nut for asking it. Too often people grow to just 'accept' things based on fuzzy logic, group consensus, and leave it at that. This is not the way to live and learn any thing. Fact is, there are mounds of people with health issues that didn't begin until their living environments became grotesquely overrun with these emissions. People who sold their homes, moved, and report remarkable feelings of well being since. They have no agenda other than feeling better. These people were all written off as crazy as well.
And this fuzzy logic about us being bombarded constantly by networks around us? Outer space? Lovely. That does nothing to attest to 'proximity' and 'intensity' or how they relate. Then people go on to mix examples of ionizing radiation with non-ionizing radiation. You couldn't come to less of a scientific conclusion if you tried and you made fun of someone in the process. And while the majority of the studies on the matter have proven inconsistent results, that does not equivocate to insanity for considering it.
Fact is, if non-ionizing radiation is harmless in your mind; Go remove your microwave door, rig the safety switch, and have a meal on me. Which leads me to the SAR rating for microwave emission exposure, which was completely disregarded here. As people hurl 'you're crazy' around and allow more and more wireless devices into their proximity you compound your overall exposure rate.
If the OP want's a specific answer; We don't know. Use at your own risk.

Overclock

What is overclock?
Wikipedia said:
Overclocking is the process of running a computer component at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second) than it was designed for or was specified by the manufacturer, usually practiced by enthusiasts seeking an increase in the performance of their computers. Some purchase low-end computer components which they then overclock to higher clock rates, or overclock high-end components to attain levels of performance beyond the specified values. Others overclock outdated components to keep pace with new system requirements, rather than purchasing new hardware.[1]

It's when you make your phones clock run faster effectively turning your phone into a time machine, but it's a big responsibility with some serious risks.
Beware the butterfly effect.
I would have added an actual explanation but danknee covered that.

since they failed at the same strategy with bluetooth, back then marketing people were also planning the same thing with bluetooth but in the end it failed

if NFC wants to survive, better make it clear to the people it's not used to suck data out of your phone, but just to pick up data from stuff

I think security with NFC is allot better than RFID, anyone with the right equipment and a lil cash can eavsdrop on people who have Bluetooth enabled on their cell phones, and with RFID its the same way.
I think the short range of NFC is a big security factor, I mean if you dont notice someone rubbing something on your ass you deserve to get money stolen from you
The fact that you have to tap the pad to get it to work is good for security. That means it won't read through your pockets. +1 there.
Unfortunately because America is so slow to take on new technologies, I'm sure we'll all go through one or two new phones each before NFC is actually on the marketplace in public venues on a large scale.

i spilled my milky galaxy

This phone is so far from perfect, I actually hate it, Its one of the crappiest Android phones there is when compared to HTC etc...
I spilt the most tiniest bit of milk on it, I mean a splash and dried it within a second, now.... when plugged into USB on my pc it says USB Device Not Reconized and that it has failed... it charges fine but WONT work in usb, turning it off n on worked fine until today... now it sometimes doesnt want to turn on by power button, I have to plug the power cable to get it to boot...
to make such a statement you'd have to spill the same amount of milk over different devices. For scientific results you'd also need a considerable amount of the different devices, at least 100 I9000s and HTC Desires for example.
Considering the finances of a private person you can also just test 20 of the same devices or so.
after that you can make assumptions about milk resistance.
Good luck and happy testing

You just don't have luck.
no it has to be milk, otherwise you just assume that a) the galaxy has problems with all liquids (to prove this would require additional tests) and b) that other phones are more resistant to milk (which some things additional to water in it) than the galaxy.
i guess we should try beer also... but we should start with some htc devices in beer.
And with some iphones in other liquids, not that i would mention them here...

GS2 falls from the sky... (and crashes to the ground)

In true, what goes up must come down - my phone went up ... and came back down - with a thud!
I attached my GS2 to an RC quadcopter using an array of balsa and hard wood, cable ties and foam and took to the skies. Since this is my phone, I have to rebuild a camera mount each time I fly and yesterday and today, I've had 4-5 flights with jello-wobble vibration video - and over beautiful fields too .. anyway, this was my third camera mount of the day and it worked! It did work... before it fell...
the RC quad it as attached to had the camera mount broken (I can make another), two broken props, and some nylon standoffs - on and a carbon fibre rod and LOTS of cable ties!
Sadly, an animal was harmed in the making of this video... a slug (or snail), jad a 1kg+ weight fall out of the sky directly upon it. I'm sorry - at least it was quick!
Oh, and the phone? Fine! Not a scratch or noticable fault - auto focus still works You can see the whole flight ...
I've not had much luck embedding on here so just in case ..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXEXRVsc9JY
The phone and quad WILL fly again but right now I'm off to sleep - it's been an interesting day!

Almost 24 hours later and I can find no fault with the phone. It was in a silicone case (one that wraps around the phone completely), encased in packing foam and then secured to a light wood mount. Unless the phone took a direct hit on something sharp, the only thing that would affect it is the inertia of the falling and sudden stop. Although I think when it was upside down, it was accelerating downwards!
The quad has breaking points such as the "feet" i made and just tied on. Mainly through ease but they've proved invaluable! Many ties reduce the impact and "break the fall" hopefully saving the quad and phone!
From yesterday, as far as I can tell, there's no damage to the phone. The only damage this phone has incurred was when I used an inferior case which didn't protect the top on my first or second flight and the quad arm vibrated a notch in the front .. GUTTED!
I don't have a reliable way of tracking the altitude yet but I think it was higher than 30m - though I could be wrong. Maybe 100m? Any suggesions and theories to the estimated height? Ideally, I'd like a GPS logger which was capable of running in the background and 1s intervals... Even just height
Looking forward for more vids.

It's hard to jugde the hight from the video. The recordings can trick you somethimes. But it's definetly more than 30m, maybe up to 100.
I regulary fly rc-sailplanes(5m wing span) and somethimes over 1000m (measured with a unit called Piccolario that transmits the height via VHF
You can't trust GPS hight readings.
You have to buy the new S3 that has a barometer
The autofocus after the fall was extremely comical. Excellent videos.

5m wingspan?! Wow! You need to duct tape your phone to one and fly (that's how I first started filming with my GS2... duct taped underneath pointing down)
I think I'll look into the Piccolario... thanks I would love to try out the S3, it's camera and barometer .. Samsug?!

On a positive note, the quad is rebuilt and seems to be flyable (only tested slighty in my house). After a test flight and new camera mount, I'll be out making my phone fly again. All going well, there'll be more videos to come...
This time I will turn off WiFi, phone connectivity and make sure it's in FLIGHT MODE. I take it this was why Android has this feature?! I mean what else could it be for?
Speaking of the phone, it has been performing fine (although, I'm not sure my HSPDA/3G connectivity is faulty because of phone antenna jolt or provider problems (TalkMobile). Still testing. It connects, just sometimes doesn't.
Thanks once again for all the great comments and the views - they are appreciated

T-Mobile Z3 bent already

Just noticed that my phone is already bent. The only thing I can think of is that this could be the result of the arm band I used the first day I had it. FFFFFFFFFKKKKK. This is real BS I hate cases but I hope you guys are using them..
EDIT: Adding pictures. The phones seems to have bent at the frame at the power button - there is a slight dimple right below it.
I am extremely sad, mad, angry, and upset.

The Glass is warped on both sides. I am afraid of using the phone because it might crack if it gets too hot
This picture shows the worst of it!

He said arm band.
which is weird unless it's a really tight armband or he put it near his elbow.
Have you contacted t-mobile?

Never put the phone in my back pocket, and I don't wear tight fitting pants. The phone is usually in my hand when I am driving, and on the desk at work.

The armband couldn't have been too tight otherwise I would have no blood flow to my arm, and if it was near my elbow no movement. However, this is the only thing I can think of because of the above stated.

No, not yet. I think I would be just better off returning the phone - it's literally just been 4 days.
Screen cracks are fairly common with arm bands
First time i see a bent phone from it.
It is easy to generate a lot of force when jogging even when it isn't really tight, it tends to be the g-force doing the damage.
Well no harm trying to request for return.
I'd say it is really a bad timing to return a bent phone due to bendgate.
Good luck.

Xperia Arc is back! .... I loved that phone So much.
I hope this is a rare case. As much as I care most about the thickness of a device when it comes to dimensions, it does make them bendy.
Maybe i'll create an app that straightens your phone........

None of this adds up to me. Can't see how an arm band could cause this. I tried bending my phone a little bit after seeing this thread, and it's a little flexible, but my bending didn't cause a permanent bend (granted I wasn't trying to permanently bend it either). If you don't wear tight fitting jeans and don't put it in your back pocket, all I can think is you tried to bend it yourself... If it's not that then there is something else you did that you're not telling us...
Please show us what the armband looks like.
What model phone(s) is the armband designed for?
Whatever the cause, using wooden blocks and clamps you should be able to bend it back. I have seen it done with an iPhone 5/5S.

Look, I'm just telling what could be the issue by giving you as much information as possible. The phone is big enough and skinny enough to bend - aluminium isn't known for its strength. I am not rich enough to buy a phone and bend it just for fun. I switched to T-Mobile and ran with an AT&T M8 waiting for this thing to get released, and I'm just sharing my concerns and experience with community.
I don't need to lie to you, even I don't know how in the heck this is possible!

Lol, I will skip on that - I rather pay the $50 restocking fee.
That's a significant bend for you to not know how it happened.

And that is exactly my point! Phones shouldn't just bend.
Besides I think you have already made up your mind about me so there is no point in arguing with you. Just consider this a warning and be careful with your phone.
You must have massive muscle bulges, while running the flex of your deltoid and biceps/triceps probably caused it to bend. Its a testament to your strength.
Comedy aside, it definately sucks though. I do not think TMO will replace it. It does seem more fragile than the Z2 according two those who have both.
I usedto have a copper z3 that hada slight bend in it just like yours. What made mine worsewas a bulge that separated the aluminumfrom the glass just behind the power button. Like you im not sure how it hapoened as i usually take great care of my phones (have not dropped one since 2006). I was out for the night with friends while it was in my front pocket. The jeans were a little snug but not really tight. I think we may see more issues like this in the future as more time passes. I had had the phone for some time before i noticed it so it was definitely a new occurrence.
Oh man.. this is no bueno. If this happened here, it is going to happen to a TON of people. Jeez.. maybe this will be the 1 upside to the thicker, bulkier, plastic based Z3v frame and body.
