only if it survives the launch time
it'll be a nice try,
since they failed at the same strategy with bluetooth, back then marketing people were also planning the same thing with bluetooth but in the end it failed
too much security hassle and issues with prevention, etc, etc
if NFC wants to survive, better make it clear to the people it's not used to suck data out of your phone, but just to pick up data from stuff

as always people are turned off by new things,
I think security with NFC is allot better than RFID, anyone with the right equipment and a lil cash can eavsdrop on people who have Bluetooth enabled on their cell phones, and with RFID its the same way.
I think the short range of NFC is a big security factor, I mean if you dont notice someone rubbing something on your ass you deserve to get money stolen from you
The fact that you have to tap the pad to get it to work is good for security. That means it won't read through your pockets. +1 there.
Unfortunately because America is so slow to take on new technologies, I'm sure we'll all go through one or two new phones each before NFC is actually on the marketplace in public venues on a large scale.

All it takes is one company to put NFC tags in their products, for example a movie poster or what have you, pretty sure its the same company that produces those cardboard cut outs for movies,

Or may be you just can't realize that the rest of the world don't or can't afford 1 car per person nor able to enjoy the space you have.

credit cards, cell phones and other devices are much less secure than an NFC device would be when you compare the range

AppleCare: The iPhone 4 Update Won't Solve the Antenna Problem
Well this is just a nice way to come back from a holiday. It seems someone at AppleCare has stated that the iOS 4 update won't solve the antenna issues so many users are complaining about on their new iPhone 4. Apparently it will change the way the antenna indicator calculates bars, but that won't solve what happens when you touch the left lower portion of the antenna.
We'll still call this post a rumor until we see the update to the OS actually working and confirming it as a fact, but according to Gizmodo, they gave AppleCare a call three times today and in these three times they got the same "pretty much read" responses:
• There is an antenna interference problem when you hold the iPhone 4 in a certain way
• One solution is to hold the phone differently, avoiding to touch the left bottom corner of the phone
• The other other solution is to buy a case or one of Apple's $30 bumpers
• The incoming software update will not fix this antenna problem, only change the way the phone displays the available signal, make it more accurate
So much for state of the art industrial design. Don't get me wrong, the concept is cool and I am a big fan of the phone. I just wouldn't call this a break through until Apple can prove it can work. Surely getting a free bumper is a great solution Apple should attend to by giving these away for free, but there are some of us here who simply don't like to carry their phones on cases..
ok what now??
The solution? ahaaaa right, I forget to write the solution

but that looks ugly and cheap
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....you get the point
recently i was talking w/ a frind of me about the hd2 (he really wants one and sorfs this forum very often) and we began to talk about the iphone.
[flame]
we began talking about the new "features" of the ios 4 (about 2/3 of those "features" are supported by wm/android for ages; the others are useless, like increase digital zoom for the camera). i then took a look on apple's ios4 web site.
for your sanity i advise NOT to take a look on that page, i don't know if i should laugh out loud about what is written on that page or rather bash my head against a wall.
beginning at that "facetime" stuffs (video telephy) that only works when connected to wifi, to the "security measures" and busibess functions, it's all either "wtf lol" or "wft lame" or even both for me.
and in the headline it states "With its easy-to-use interface, amazing features, and rock-solid stability, iOS — Apple’s mobile operating system — is the foundation of iPhone. And even as other phones try to catch up, the technologies and features built into iOS 4 keep it years ahead of the competition". come on.
[/flame]
We don't own iPhone 4's so why should we care one way or another?
This thread is more than a little pathetic.

The UK already has a big old investment in contactless technology with London's rather successful Oystercard travel scheme, but now the whole Kingdom can get a taste for airborne payments thanks to a new initiative from McDonald's and Visa. The two giants of commerce are uniting to bring NFC tech to all of the former's 1,200 fast food restaurants within the UK, allowing hungry Brits to pay for meals costing up to £15 by simply waving their credit card in front of the till Obi-wan-style. Of course, the real excitement of such large-scale NFC proliferation is in the potential to use those automated tills with your Nexus S (which has an NFC chip built right in) and other devices coming up this year that look set to feature the technology. So yeah, Visa had better be working hard on putting together some mobile apps.
Here's the link:

We will probably see more NFC by this summer. I know China just released a new NFC app in the market.

Thanks for the article. Can't wait to use NFC here in the US. I wonder when Google will unlock the transmit/write feature.
most places that accepts MasterCard NFC should easily be able to be updated to also accept Nexus S

I'm still unclear on this, actually. I heard that the Nexus S NFC chip is read-only, but I heard from somewhere else that that's a software limitation, not a hardware one. If anyone actually has a definitive answer about that, I'd be interested in hearing it.

What I remember hearing is that because the chip is just literally plastered into the back of the battery cover it is not as functional as it could be had it been designed into the phone.

So we need the iDevices to have the technology before anybody considers it for mass implementation? Sad...
It'd just the reality of it all. No one will invest unless they have a huge amount of people on board, and nexus s won't do that.
We kind of forget to thank the evil apple for a lot of things, for without their phone we wouldn't have companies paying as much attention as they have to the app scene. Especially web apps like internet banking. Before iphone none of the banks here in Australia even bothered with smartphone friendly websites. Then iphone came and they couldn't get their iphone sites up fast enough.

What if one of those commercials had a young kid jump off a building thinking he could fly?
Ok, maybe bad analogy but this commercial will have naive people thinking this phone is water-proof.
There are other ways to show the the brilliant display without confusing people and thinking what may or may not damage the phone

Nice commercial; they're realizing that the average consumer doesn't need to be blown away by specs and CG graphics to buy the product. I hope they make more that showcase the qualities of the phone but they are heading in the right direction.
I fail to see how Moto continuously makes the spec oriented adds for the Xoom when Apple is winning the hearts of many with it's emotionally attached and "awe inspiring" commercials of the iPad 2.

well that's kinda simple...
the Tech oriented commercials are trying to attract the geeky / nerdy cloud of consumers (Us here people on forums)
the Awe, Cute, Funny, Nice, etc type commercials are aimed to the regular home user that knows nothing about the phone, they just want something that looks great, and works, and fully packed with features they don't even use.

I know this, but as you can see with the sales numbers, the Xoom isn't selling THAT well. People are quick to forget that "we" make up a small percentage of the market and that isn't where companies need to advertise.
Think about it, how many people who actually know what those specs mean wouldn't already know about the Xoom? The point of a commercial isn't to advertise to your target audience (of course it is, in a way) because we are already "sold".
With new products like these, they should be going for the average Co sumer, one who doesn't know about the tablet and is wondering why they should get that over the iPaD.

I have 2 questions.
1.How good is the battery life in terms of recording? (and in general)
2.How did your school (teachers students and especially administration) react to glass?
My school is really tech friendly and open minded so I'm not to worried, however that is in high contrast to my previous school who would have most likely banned the use of glass (they wouldn't care what it actually did, and they wouldn't listen to logic). I am finishing up my last year of high school so I know colleges are more open but it would still be nice to know your feedback.

Glass is most definitely not worth $1500 for the practical application (unless you are just rich), I bought it to be part of the explorer team and be on the "inside group" of tech, while I can't say how much it benefits my life yet, I really doubt it benefits me 5 times as much as my nexus 5 (which is $300). I think it will need a good range of applications and a cheaper price before I would buy it as a consumer, however I'm optimistic that that will happen.

It's the University of Central Florida, so I don't have my old highschool admins breathing down my neck They would've nailed me in a hardbeat, no doubt, but they also banned the possession of electronic devices, and would commonly announce that "ipads, iphones, phones, and xboxes need to be turned off and stowed away". Correct. It's not worth its current price. But I tend not to think about it that way. If you have money to blow that you wouldn't spend elsewhere, then it's worth it. You really shouldn't try to apply logic to an impulse buy, it'll just make you feel bad about it

Ha, so you're right! Small world indeed. And yeah, I'm in Whiting's class. But I stopped going last week; my grade is too high in that class to justify listening to her go on and on about IDEs and ActionListeners.

Lol, true. I pretty much stopped going after she said the last test had some of the worst grades and I sat there like "But I got a 100..." so I deemed it worthless to go anymore.
Hello,
I'm just curious, what are potential health hazzards wearing all this smartwear 24/7 like smartband? It's bluetooth tech but is laying totally on the skin. And all this area(wifi,bluetooth...) of potential problems is totally grey...

You're joking right?

No, I wanna hear others what they think. Don't wanna find a bump in my wrist after 5years of wearing smartband 24/7...

First: there are not smartbands with android wear yet.
Second: If you are really concerned about the EM-emission you should go live in the woods. You're surrounded by it anyway, whether you wear a smart device or not. Phones, TV, WIFI routers, telephone signals, microwaves etc etc. You know where this is going. The power of the bluetooth connection is incredibly small compared to the power eg microwaves give out. In our modern world you can't protect yourself against this kind of radiation. Maybe wear a tinfoil hat.

Why do you think that? wireless transmission exists since 1896 and there hasn't been a single case where someone got ill from it.
I have smartband SWR10. But you're right, wrong subforum apparently, not android wear..
Don't be so cinical. You would shurely like to put me in a "Chemtrails bucket" but please don't. Currently there are no evidence that prolong exposure to routers and bluetooth is causing illness. And so is the opposite, there are no evidence that prolong exposure to routers and bluetooth is not causing illness because people do get seriously ill... Microwaves do radiate but we are using them rarely(I cook very often so don't need microwave often), on wifi router I'm not sitting, so am not sitting on mobile phone or carrying it in my pocket, also with TV there is a distance over 3m... This bluetooth is in use all the time and totally on the skin so maybe it builds up over time in a tissue I know what you are talking about and that all that emiting crap is around us all the time but the strenght of emission do fall with higher distance from the source... Also the air is poluted so yea, you are right but why put more oil on the fire?
As for woods, the day will come when we will all wish to go live in the woods but there will be no woods, just scorched earth or big brader at the other end

Hm I really don't like that way of arguing. In my opinion things that haven't been proven don't exist, so yea I don't believe in god because of this either (please don't hate me ^^). So if there is no evidence that it causes illness why think it does? It's hard to prove that they don't cause any harm, because that's kind of the definition. How do you prove the non-existence of something?
I see you point that if things are new there is not enough evidence for either of both opinions but as I said wireless technologies like wlan or bluetooth in our phones / watches / TVs / etc really aren't new anymore. They have been around for quite some time (10+ years for the new ones like bluetooth and way longer for general wireless transmission) and no one found any actual evidence for them being harmful in any way, simply because the power they emit is way too low compared to the energy that is around as all the time anyway. One might as well be frightened of the radioactive emissions from our universe.. I think I made my point here Feel free to think otherwise xD

Lets hope not.
I'm not gonna hate you and you again are impleing that with "bucket of believers" thing. Don't do that, god has nothing to do with this and we are closer in thoughts in that subject
Nevertheless, maybe he is sending deep space radiation, who knows, the mass histeria is surelly present...
Just kidding... (on this,I was serious on subject)

If I were to be worried about anything, it would be the cell networks. I mean think about it, every carrier's network - 2G, 3G and LTE/4G - are constantly coursing through and around you. But in the end, it's totally harmless. We're bombarded with huge ranges of frequencies all day long and there isn't so much as a hint of damage.
this is a joke... right?
this is a joke, right? i mean, the food that you eat is more likely to cause you harm than Bluetooth LE, or radio waves for that matter.
The most of food that I eat is mine and is home grown in country side
I'm mostly worried about solar radiation. That sh*t hurts.

lul. and don't forget the radioactive food
I'm mostly worried about people don't giving a sh*it... And consumers that change their phones every few months, waste manufacturers... pompose people that think they are so smart and cool... and junk food which they think is healthy... Luulzzz. Loulz. Lel. Lol.

(To several posters in general)
The OP does have a legitimate question and shouldn't be written off as a nut for asking it. Too often people grow to just 'accept' things based on fuzzy logic, group consensus, and leave it at that. This is not the way to live and learn any thing. Fact is, there are mounds of people with health issues that didn't begin until their living environments became grotesquely overrun with these emissions. People who sold their homes, moved, and report remarkable feelings of well being since. They have no agenda other than feeling better. These people were all written off as crazy as well.
And this fuzzy logic about us being bombarded constantly by networks around us? Outer space? Lovely. That does nothing to attest to 'proximity' and 'intensity' or how they relate. Then people go on to mix examples of ionizing radiation with non-ionizing radiation. You couldn't come to less of a scientific conclusion if you tried and you made fun of someone in the process. And while the majority of the studies on the matter have proven inconsistent results, that does not equivocate to insanity for considering it.
Fact is, if non-ionizing radiation is harmless in your mind; Go remove your microwave door, rig the safety switch, and have a meal on me. Which leads me to the SAR rating for microwave emission exposure, which was completely disregarded here. As people hurl 'you're crazy' around and allow more and more wireless devices into their proximity you compound your overall exposure rate.
If the OP want's a specific answer; We don't know. Use at your own risk.
