[Q] i9506 4.4.2 Problem - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I flashed 4.4.2 that had been released yesterday with Odin and I got "FAIL! (Size)" when it tries to flash hidden.img. I first thought my phone got bricked as it was only able to get on the download mode and couldn't get to recovery mode and when I tried to flash it again it did the same error. After reading about this problem fro the internet someone said to ignore that error message and go back to download mode after flashing the rom and flash a custom recovery. I did so, went to the recovery mode, wiped data and cache and I was able to boot normally. When my phone booted up I started to have an error message that bothers me the most; "Unfortunately, Samsung keyboard has stopped working". This happens every five seconds or so. Is there any fix for this, as I'd like having Samsung's keyboard working on my phone?

You can't just ignore Odin warnings.
Almost all Odin error can be resolved by the following.
- Different usb cable
- Different usb port
- Different pc
- Reinstalling drivers.

Most likely you are flashing different size partitions. Is it stock?
If so, please download pit file for your model, flash with pit file and repartition marked, do not reboot phone, go to recovery, wipe phone and reflash again, this time without pit file and without repartition marked. Shall do the job.
Final tip: NEVER ignore Odin errors messages.

Does it have to be 4.4.2 pit file as all I found was a pit file for 4.3? Does it harm my device in any way if I try to flash with that?

should not, I used 4.3 pit to flash 4.4.2.

Bricked my sgs4?

Hi, Tried to install root through odin for the first time but the install didn't complete.
Now my sgs won't boot anymore.
It gives, the firmware upgrade error.
I can boot into download mode.
When i try to flash the original firmware for the i9505 it gives an error (something about a pit file missing)...
What can i do to get my sgs4 working again?

seems partitions are corrupt so try getting the 16GB pit file and set it in odin with the repartition option enabled..... and try flashing the new firmware
Under normal circumstances, DO NOT tick "re-partition" during Odin flash of firmware.
Only tick "re-partition" if you have the PIT file as described in previous post
Ensure any firmware (double check !) is that for your specific model.

There's a .pit file in the DOWNLOADER folder at this link: moulnisky DOT com/index.php?dir=Samsung/Firmwares/GT-I9505/
I haven't tested it so don't know if it works, but there you go.
P.S. I had the same issue and restored my phone using Kies firmware recovery mode: samsung DOT com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00048586&fm_seq=52928

[Q] I need help! Soft brick my note 4, need a .PIT file.

My phone is stuck on firmware on "upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
I tried Kies 3 and it doesn't recognise the phone. I tried different firmwares the invalid .4ext error and says the file too big 475000 < 512000 something among those lines. I read that I will need to re-partition the memory with .PIT file for the note 4, which is no where to be found on google. I hope someone will be kind enough to extract the .PIT file from their phone and post it here.
Cheers,
Mus

I tried many way nothing happen i cant use odin fail in everything i try to flash with rom or recovery. and now phone keep restarting and i cant wipe data?? anything i add or delete after restart go back like before like nothing happen?????
Guys I tried flash latest Sweden and have same problem size too big and ext4 failed, then I flash Philz recovery and voila phone booted everything its ok!!!
If you download a stock Samsung ROM, remove the .md5 from the end of it, and then extract the archive, you should find the PIT file in there.
I've not had to do it myself, because I'm using an S4 at the moment and was able to get a PIT file download on its own. So I can't verify 100% that it will be there, but I read it in a thread somewhere that it is.
Give it a try..
same problem
i hv same problem. but after instaling all samsung recovery.tar via odin it stuck on start up showing "android is not seandroid recovery."
i hv tried dfrnt stock firmware to flash via odin but all fails. need help?????????????

[Q] Re-partition System

Hi Guys
After trying out ART I realized that my System Partition went up from 5.5gb (Approx) to 7.2gb(Approx). At the time, I thought that as soon as I returned to Dalvik the System Partition would restore itself to normal but it has not.
I have done a lot of research but have not been able to work out how I can get my 1.5gb back now that i have returned to Dalvik full time.
I was wondering if there is a way to restore the system partition back to its stock size via re-partitioning or some other method. Is this what the Re-partition check box is for in Odin? If so, does this mean I need to flash a fresh stock rom and go from there?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Ed
Try re-flashing the stock firmware for your device via Odin with the PIT file.
You can obtain a PIT file from another device in its original state.

Thanks mate.
Will give it a try tonight.
Never use a pit file unless a firmware requires it.
The safest way is to use kies and do software restore from settings. It will flash the latest file for your S/N.
Just remember to add the pit file before you check the repartition box in Odin lol
I've heard of a few people being told to repartition, so they've just ticked the repartition box, but not added a pit file. If you do that, your phone is hard bricked, and only a JTAG box will fix it..
But it's a safe procedure if you do it properly, I've done it many times.

[Q] Bricked SM-G900W8 looking for partition file

Hello, I am relatively inexperienced when it comes to flashing and have managed to brick my s5(rogers(SM-G900W8)canadian). I have looked around and it seems as though in order to get my phone to work I need a pit file for my phone. Problem is, I can't find one. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. by the way I have rooted and enabled usb debugging prior to being bricked
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2800218&d=1402859206
so that should work?
Well that's the PIT file for your model phone, whether or not it unbricks it depends on what you did to brick it
I bricked it by attempting to flash philz touch recovery in odin 3.09 and it failed. Now I have the message:"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." on my phone, I tried doing exactly that but kies detects my phone but never finishes loading it up. So I tried flashing the stock firmware for my device model and got the same issue I did when attempting to flash the recovery. As far as i know I didn't do anything wrong as i was very careful to select the right files, etc. but clearly I did.
Well you've got nothing to lose by trying the PIT file
Not flashed PIT before so read up on exactly how to do it first, this is the thread I got the link for your phone from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737448
Tried flashing the file and that failed as well... not looking too good.
I guess my phone's useless now.
Did you check the "Re-Partition" in ODIN?
Are you using the latest version of ODIN3 (3.10.6) ?
Try ODIN3 version 3.0.7 too
(Obviously) Got phone in download mode
Tried just flashing a stock ROM from sammobile
Tried flashing the stock ROM along with the PIT file & Stock ROM together?
tried it all, when trying to flash the pit file as well though it gives me "SECURE CHECK FAIL : PIT" on my phone. whenever I try to flash it it always fails at system.img.ext4 with Complete(Write) operation failed.
I think I know the issue now, I'm using VMware, which apparently doesn't work. Will try on a windows pc in a while. thanks
Ah right, yea always best from a native PC
Let us know if you get it working
It worked and then I installed the newest cyanogenmod.

Samsung Galaxy note 4 (N910F)

Hi.
I recently got an update on my note 4 and I tried to install it. The whole thing screwed up and didn't work. So I went and tried to update it with Odin instead. That also didn't work. The phone no longer boots.
For 3 days straight I have been trying to fix my phone. When I try to update with Odin, It tells me that there is no PIT Partition. When I add the 32GB PIT partition file it says "re-partition operation failed"
I've tried updating with the 4 files as well, So AP, BL,CP and CSC. Still no luck
Just download latest firmware for your phone and perform install over current system. Don't check repartition option.

I did yes. But from a different place due to the slow downloads. I have tried multiple different firmwares and no luck
Then insert appropriate pit file and do flashing.

Restart computer and try flashing via another USB port. Also pull out battery from phone for 10 seconds and then open download mode.

Once I deleted all my partitions with twrp. Then I downloaded and installed suitable firmware and pit file and all went good. Can you start recovery mode? You can reset phone from it.

Did you disable reactivation lock before flashing?
