Hello, I am relatively inexperienced when it comes to flashing and have managed to brick my s5(rogers(SM-G900W8)canadian). I have looked around and it seems as though in order to get my phone to work I need a pit file for my phone. Problem is, I can't find one. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. by the way I have rooted and enabled usb debugging prior to being bricked
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2800218&d=1402859206
so that should work?
Well that's the PIT file for your model phone, whether or not it unbricks it depends on what you did to brick it
I bricked it by attempting to flash philz touch recovery in odin 3.09 and it failed. Now I have the message:"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." on my phone, I tried doing exactly that but kies detects my phone but never finishes loading it up. So I tried flashing the stock firmware for my device model and got the same issue I did when attempting to flash the recovery. As far as i know I didn't do anything wrong as i was very careful to select the right files, etc. but clearly I did.
Well you've got nothing to lose by trying the PIT file
Not flashed PIT before so read up on exactly how to do it first, this is the thread I got the link for your phone from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737448
Tried flashing the file and that failed as well... not looking too good.
I guess my phone's useless now.
Did you check the "Re-Partition" in ODIN?
Are you using the latest version of ODIN3 (3.10.6) ?
Try ODIN3 version 3.0.7 too
(Obviously) Got phone in download mode
Tried just flashing a stock ROM from sammobile
Tried flashing the stock ROM along with the PIT file & Stock ROM together?
tried it all, when trying to flash the pit file as well though it gives me "SECURE CHECK FAIL : PIT" on my phone. whenever I try to flash it it always fails at system.img.ext4 with Complete(Write) operation failed.
I think I know the issue now, I'm using VMware, which apparently doesn't work. Will try on a windows pc in a while. thanks
Ah right, yea always best from a native PC
Let us know if you get it working
It worked and then I installed the newest cyanogenmod.

Hi guys
Sorry this is my first post and it will be a bit long but I've searched everywhere, absolutely everywhere with no luck at all.
So tonight I originally tried to update my MODEM to a Telstra one, and I flashed it via ODIN.
The ODIN flash failed and I stupidly pulled the phone out, and it gave me the dreaded
PHONE-----YELLOW TRIANGLE----- COMPUTER
'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
I tried flashing a 4.3 KNOX stock rom later on (I realised it was a big mistake), that failed in ODIN as well
I have also tried re-partitioning with a PIT file as well via ODIN but it doesn't really help
ODIN keeps hanging on the "system" flashing command and goes to a red "fail". It won't start flashing "system.ext4.... etc"
I've tried all versions of ODIN and all version of 4.3
I can't use any 4.2.2 roms as the phone only seems to accept 4.3 stock roms now.
I've also tried KIES, but KIES will not recognise my phone, and ODIN hangs at 'system.ext4...' (can't remember, something similar, definitely said system)
So I have a completely bricked phone now... I can only get into TEAMWIN recovery but it won't connect to USB at all.
I absolutely can't flash anything with it failing in ODIN and KIES won't recognise my phone. I've put it in 'download mode' as well..
I've also tried flashing roms through TEAMWIN/CWM recovery but it instantly fails.
Are there any options open to me? I'm really scared that I have an expensive paperweight....

Try another usb port (recommended: back of the computer)
and flash again via Odin stock base rom 4.3
P.S: I was getting the similar problem you have. another usb port helped me

Thanks Yeah I've tried that, I've tried front, back, on a laptop, but Odin still red fails at the writing 'System' (the largest 'chunk' of the tar.md5 file) no matter which 4.3 rom I try
I so upset :crying:

Hello,
For my part, I also encountered problems! the only rom that is passed via ODIN after testing 5 other is:
I9505XXUAMDF_I9505PHNAMD8_PHN
But if Knox! possible that this does not happen either?
*************
For me I do:
1 - Flash with Odin Pit
2 - Flash with ODIN last recovery philz_touch_5.15.8-i9505.zip
3 - Wip full recovery for new rom
4 - Flash the I9505XXUAMDF_I9505PHNAMD8_PHN
And then this happened.

I thought with the official 4.3 new bootloader, we cant downgrade to 4.2.2.
Try another Odin version or extract the .tar file via Winrar (rename it from .tar.md5 to .tar if your file ending at .tar.md5) and flash the system.img.ext4 via this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333807 see if you getting error with this tool while flashing the system.img.ext4
and then try to flash again with odin
P.S. While flashing via Odin kill in Task Manager Kies and related process and flash again

Hey Bordo
Thankyou so much for your suggestion - I will try the individual component flasher later tonight and then write back on what happens
I will also remember to kill Kies with task manager beforehand, before using ODIN or any other flasher :good:
Thankyou so much for your time and effort in trying to help!!!! Much appreciated
So I flashed 4.4.2 that had been released yesterday with Odin and I got "FAIL! (Size)" when it tries to flash hidden.img. I first thought my phone got bricked as it was only able to get on the download mode and couldn't get to recovery mode and when I tried to flash it again it did the same error. After reading about this problem fro the internet someone said to ignore that error message and go back to download mode after flashing the rom and flash a custom recovery. I did so, went to the recovery mode, wiped data and cache and I was able to boot normally. When my phone booted up I started to have an error message that bothers me the most; "Unfortunately, Samsung keyboard has stopped working". This happens every five seconds or so. Is there any fix for this, as I'd like having Samsung's keyboard working on my phone?
You can't just ignore Odin warnings.
Almost all Odin error can be resolved by the following.
- Different usb cable
- Different usb port
- Different pc
- Reinstalling drivers.

Most likely you are flashing different size partitions. Is it stock?
If so, please download pit file for your model, flash with pit file and repartition marked, do not reboot phone, go to recovery, wipe phone and reflash again, this time without pit file and without repartition marked. Shall do the job.
Final tip: NEVER ignore Odin errors messages.

Does it have to be 4.4.2 pit file as all I found was a pit file for 4.3? Does it harm my device in any way if I try to flash with that?

should not, I used 4.3 pit to flash 4.4.2.
My phone is stuck on firmware on "upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
I tried Kies 3 and it doesn't recognise the phone. I tried different firmwares the invalid .4ext error and says the file too big 475000 < 512000 something among those lines. I read that I will need to re-partition the memory with .PIT file for the note 4, which is no where to be found on google. I hope someone will be kind enough to extract the .PIT file from their phone and post it here.
Cheers,
Mus
Me too

N910F
I tried many way nothing happen i cant use odin fail in everything i try to flash with rom or recovery. and now phone keep restarting and i cant wipe data?? anything i add or delete after restart go back like before like nothing happen?????
Guys I tried flash latest Sweden and have same problem size too big and ext4 failed, then I flash Philz recovery and voila phone booted everything its ok!!!
If you download a stock Samsung ROM, remove the .md5 from the end of it, and then extract the archive, you should find the PIT file in there.
I've not had to do it myself, because I'm using an S4 at the moment and was able to get a PIT file download on its own. So I can't verify 100% that it will be there, but I read it in a thread somewhere that it is.
Give it a try..
same problem
i hv same problem. but after instaling all samsung recovery.tar via odin it stuck on start up showing "android is not seandroid recovery."
i hv tried dfrnt stock firmware to flash via odin but all fails. need help?????????????
Hi guys,
I had a rooted galaxy s4 I9505, which I tried to encript before selling. After 10 hours the encripting did not finish so I rebooted it and ended up with a bootloop, that I tried to foolishly solve by going to the TWRP menu and formatting the device, the OS was lost and since then I am unable to bring it back to life. I am trying to flash a new rom with jOdin because it keeps saying that the PIT file that my phone shows is corrupt, I tried different versions of jOdin and two different computers. Kies and the like are uninstalled. I tried downloading PIT files online with no luck.
Do you guys have any suggestions? I am really lost after wasting 2 days on this.
Many thanks...
Try downloading the official firmware from sammobile. And flash using odin. That should work

Thanks Soyuz4u, but Odin keeps saying that has found a corrupted file (either the PIT file or another) and does not even start flashing.
Has anyone had this problem before?
Can't you flash a rom via TWRP? I managed to soft brick my device last night with Mobile Odin. It wiped my recovery and OS. I just flashed TWRP back with normal Odin and restored my rom backup.
Have you googled to see if there is a pit file for the memory configuration of your phone?

Try a different USB cable / port. That error is related to that a lot of the time.
Thanks for the replies guys. I couldn't flash a new ROM with TWRP because it kept saying that the .md5 file could not be found, no matter what I did. I downloaded some PIT files online but did not find something specific to my phone memory config.
I'll give it a go in a Windows platform with different USB ports to see if that helps.
Thanks again!

I don't think you have any clue what you are doing.
You say you have TWRP on your device. Then download a custom rom and flash it with TWRP.
- What do you mean with .md5 file cannot be found? You never ever use a .md5 file with TWRP. You only need to flash a .zip.
- Are you running Odin in a virtual machine? That will not work. Jodin is also outdated if i'm not mistaken.
SOLVED NOW! I installed the latest Odin on WIndows and flashed the Rom with no problem. I was unaware of Odin being outdated for Mac. Thanks all for your help again.
My s7 edge got stuck at boot screen so i reflashed stock rom and rerooted then restored the backup i had, it said fail because of low memory while restoring the system and now when i try to reflash the stock rom on odin it says model dismatch fail.
If someone could help me fix this I'm willing to pay something decent, but not a whole lot lol
Re-download the stock rom and flash it

i did that lol thats when it says "model dismatch fail"
Do you have custom recovery?
Do you have a custom recovery?
Do you have the right and the newest Odin Version?
Did you try it with another transfercable or USB-Port?
Do you have the newest samsung drivers?
Did you have any Odin problems like this before?
My suggestion:
Just do a full wipe on your phone. Downlad the newest Odin Version. Get your device into download mode (maybe try different transfercables or USB Ports and the newest samsung drivers) and see if it works now.
If yes, flash the right Bootloader and Modem for your device and then flash the rom you wanted to flash.
If this didnt work, (and you have a custom recovery) try to reinstall the rom without any backups via the recovery at first and check afterwards, if the device is now recognized by Odin.
Good luck

I guess you still have twrp installed.
1. Step: go to TWRP and wipe everything except your SD-Card
2. Step: enter download mode on your device and then plug your usb in (maybe try a different usb-port or even another computer, or another usb cable)
3. Step:Flash the newest bootloader & modem in one step.
4. Step: Enter TWRP again and flash the firmware.zip via the installation process
I dont have TWRP, but i got it fixed, somehow my roomate got it, thanks anyways guys
So all he got was my phone to turn on, im still having this model dismatch fail issue..
Maybe You're trying to flash wrong firmware? What model did You buy?(check box) and what firmware did You download?
If nothing works then download 7zip. And remove all files from that tar.md5 file and leave system.img only. And then try reflashing it.
This way no matter what device You connect it should force flash this image file. Although it might be dangerous (a tiny little bit) so first make sure that You have proper firmware for Your model.

Yes, I've used these files multiple times before i did what i did, ill give that a try, if it works, i owe you.
If system.img by itself will flash successfully and Your phone won't boot then add slowly more files to that tar file (boot.img, recovery.img etc)
You could also try looking for a pit file for Your phone and then flash it with it. Pit file usually fixes most problems even broken partitions.
And make sure that You put that tar file in AP/PDA.
If nothing above works then send me screenshots of ODIN and the file that You're trying to flash. Maybe I'll notice something. But I hope You'll fix it
