Is there a way to completly restore fire tv? remove root and all sideloaded application?
posibly done on the computer or something.
Factory reset should achieve what you are asking for unless you tweaked host file etc.

Just like heyredy141 said, if you disabled update checks using pm disable com.amazon.dcp. Undo that by using: pm disable com.amazon.dcp. then do a factory reset. A factory reset won't undo the host mods, and when FTV starts up it requires to check updates in order to continue booting first time.
pm enable com.amazon.dcp

its my understanding that this is incorrect since the pm disable com.amazon.dcp is not a "host file" mod as u say. not sure if you really need to renable it before factory restoring.. why do you think its necessary?

I might be incorrect in saying "host file" but I read from other threads, a factory reset won't undo a pm disable com.amazon.dcp. If you look up earlier "bricked" threads, a couple of people did a factory reset without enabling com.amazon.dcp.

So to be clear on all this thread, if you don't enable this before you do a factory reset you can brick your AFTV?
Any other ways to brick it?
I'm just learning because I wan't to avoid any future bricks doing'any negligent stuff.
Thanks

I don't know how much stock i put in to that. Factory reset should reenable dcp. /data is where user data and system configuration is stored, and also where the disabled application list is kept. When you do a factory reset, it clears out /data. There is a lot of stories on here where people think something happened, or they assume something is going to happen.
Furthermore, disabling dcp is all you need. No one should be screwing around with the hosts file anymore.
I did a factory reset without undoing the pm disable. Everything went fine. I was able to re-root my device and all.
Hmmm.... So why it bricks?

The only real bricking I can remember is people screwing around with the /etc/hosts file.

I have a Nexus 4 and I'm running the stock ROM, but I am rooted. I encrypted my phone and have tried a factory rest in recovery and in the settings on the phone. It simply restarts and it's still encrypted. In recovery I'm using CM and it errors stating it can't load a file. What is going on and how do I make my phone work?
I'm trying to run Nexus Root Tookit v1.6.2 and it also still encrypted.
Is their any way to hard reset this phone? I tried fixing permissions in CM and it still won't let me wipe and do a factory reset
What do mean by "encrypted", do you mean you re-locked the bootloader ?

Can someone tell me what he means by encrypted.

No known way to decrypt. If you want to decrypt you'll need to erase the user data partition in recovery. Which will wipe any user information.
If that fails you'll need to flash back to the stock using the methods in the android development.

There is a encryption option in security section, requires a pin you created to decrypt every time you power on the phone.

I can confirm ibegary's statement. When you encrypt your phone it warns you that the ONLY way to decrypt it is to wipe all data from your SD card.

How can you erase all data?
Factory reset doesn't work. It reboots, but all is still there.
What can I do?
To connect to my company I had to encrypt data. But I want to start over.
I have no problem to erase all, but I don't have an idea how to do it.
Now days a lot of companies have a BYOD (Bring your own device) policy that requires users to install Google Apps Device Policy from the play store. This then enables you to get in to your company emails and what not. You have to complete a set of procedures, encrypting the device is one of them. You also need to have a decrypytion PIN that allows you to use the device. Furthermore, your companies admins can access your device remotely.
I tried it on my backup Nexus S and when I wanted to go back to stock, I had to uninstall Google Apps Device Policy first. Then I did a factory reset. Of course, you need your PIN to begin.

I came across this (just now) and discovered the only way to do a factory reset was to flash the original stock recovery and do a factory reset from there. You can flash the factory recovery using the toolkit.

I have a Nexus 4 My BYOD policy made me encrypt my phone, and I have my phone rooted running stock.
A simple factory reset worked for me.
Everything I have read said it shouldn't but it did. I am running android 4.3
Maybe an update fixed this issue.
Hello,
Since my last phone got stolen i have gotten a little paranoid, so is there any way to make a security app that permits remote control of the phone "unninstalable" even with a reset?
thanks in advance

Sadly, there is no such thing like that. A factory reset will wipe everything on the phone and brings it back to the box condition. It takes less than 10mins to do that if you do it manually. Use a tool can be faster.
There is always Cerberus. If you flash it, remove root and relock the bootloader, it might take 15 minutes to remove it instead of 10.
I believe if you install it manually in /system, then remove root and relock, it should be permanent. Unfortunately, an app that can do a remote wipe without root needs to be registered as a device administrator, so even if the app is hidden and completely silent... settings->security->device administrators->'uncheck'... and the app is neutered.

They can just unlock the bootloader and it'll be wiped.

Unlocking boot loader doesn't wipe system. Only data

ok, so how can i make it the hardest possible to remove it? (not interested in removing root just because of this) Just hide the app so if they try to manually unninstall everything instead of wiping it gives me a little time window to try and locate it?
So.. ermmm how do u hide an app?
Cerberus lets you hide the app from the app drawer.
Hi Folks,
My phone doesn't seem to lock my exact location on any of the mapping apps. I have tried downloading all possible GPS apps but nothing seemed to work. Is factory resetting my phone is the only solution? I have a Verizon version.
I have couple of questions:
1. I am rooted and I have TWRP installed. if I factory reset, am I going to lose both?
Your help is highly appreciated.

Factory reset wipes the data partition, not system. You won't lose root or TWRP.
The only app I use for GPS is FasterGPS
It might help with the speed. Hopefully you can get it working.

Sorry!
I recently rooted my note3 and installed xpose framework and other tweaks. i later realised that my power button cant lock and put my device into my lock screen.
the power button still works for everything else and i have a software button to bring it to the lock screen which i made using the "greenify app".
whats causing this and is there any fix? or any ways to put the device into safe mode ans see if this is caused by some faulty tweak? bug?
Summary:
"Power button works for everything except putting the phone to lockscreen/screen blackout"
Basic solution is to go to security and check "power button instantly locks" something like that.

I removed all my modules and root permissions and used super user to remove my root.
Ive backed up all my data, removed my root access and im planning to do a factory reset. That should fix it right? Is it possible to soft brick my device this way?
Im fluent when it comes to jailbreaking but still a total noob with rooting.

Factory reset will delete all data photos, music, vids, contact and messages etc. If you've backed up everything then you are good to go for factory reset and will welcome you back to fresh out of the box phone. And no soft brick can occur by doing this.

Very interesting...
I discovered that if I renamed the boot animation qmg file under \system\media , the screen won't turn off. Once I restored the file, all is well.
Why is this?
how to i reset all this without doing it manualluy?
I'm assuming it's coded as most hardware functions are. Anyway applause for finding the solution on your own, well done.

Hello Gentlemen,
Let me try to keep this short.
I got a new Android phone recently and had planned to port all my app backups from the N9005.
As things happen, I ran the Samsung app for backup and did a factory reset before checking the same.
The backup made a fool out of me, nearly all the crucial stuff is missing.
So now I need to recover the settings from the post "factory reset" Note 3.
What would be the fastest and least painful way to-
a. Root the SM9005;
b. Recover the backup (XML files for tasker, Aquamail, Biz Calendar and so on);
c. Unroot the app and be done with it.
I need to unroot as the last step as I plan to have the phone loaded with a kid friendly UI and keep it for the kids for long trips. Do not want anything wary taking over it.
Any suggestions and help is welcome!
Thanks,
CKhurana

Yeah, I know. But a recovery is possible AFAIK until the free space is overwritten? Just like any disk based data recovery happens?
Can you help me with options on the root?

Well the simplest one without hassle is either flashing recovery IMG and rooting via SuperSU.
