You cannot make nandroid backups without first
installing twrp or cwm recovery.
And yes it will trip knox, there is no way around it.
Good luck!

Damm it.
What about mobile odin?
It says it will not increase counter.

Mobile Odin cannot make nandroid backups or any other kind of backups.
Mobile Odin will trip knox if you use it to flash twrp or cwm recovery or kernels.
Good luck!

Cheers mate.
I will just have to do without.

It is perfectly safe to install apk game files and most all other apk files.
However some of the application and utility type apks may require root.
None of the apk types will effect or trip knox.
Good luck!

Sorry to say, but you are wrong, the app will only work with twrp,
cwm or some other custom recovery installed.
Requirements:
1. Rooted android phone
2. A terminal emulator installed on phone
3. Latest version of Busybox
4. A working CWM, TWRP or 4EXT based recovery installed
5. Some patience
Flashing/Installing any custom recovery will trip knox.
Looks like you have not read the full description of this
app at google playstore.

So no nandroid backup even online.

[Q] Flashing stock rom (GT-9500)

..
..
I've never done a backup myself but that's bad practice I know.
If SuperSu does not ask you for root privileges, then there might be some issues with your root. Have you tried to install the latest update? I had the same issue right after root, the default SuperSu app did not work so what I did was flashing the latest SuperSu app via Recovery and it worked.
Get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
I just flash 4.4.2 INU, just backup yr msg & call logs, the installation process automatically backup & restore apps
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
Always make a backup before doing anything to your system. You never know what might go wrong. You can backup using nandroid or your custom recovery.
Regarding you SuperSU issue, make sure you answer "No" when your custom recovery asks you fix root (unless specified by the rooting procedure - philz touch recovery when rooting Russian firmware i9500 4.4.2).
Moreover, you can download an app to check if you lost your root privileges. If you did lose it, root your system again.

you can use titanium backup but that needs root. uninstall Super SU and install it from the play store. The app will detect if its activity is hindered by KNOX.

First, make sure that your are, indeed, rooted. Uninstall Super SU in Applications Manager in your Settings. Install again from play store.

download a root checker app to check if you are rooted. try downloading Super SU from play store anyway. See what happens.

[Q] Just too new

This is my first smartphone, I'm just too new at this... its information overload.
I have a SAMSUNG-SM-G900V (Verizon)
For now all I want to do is backup (Odin?) all I have on my phone so I can undo any changes and have a backup. THEN try to root with towelroot once I'm sure it will work.
I was reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699648
This is what confused me so I stopped:
" Step 3. Download an ODIN flashable recovery onto your PC"
What is that? Where do I get it? Do I still need to do any of this if I am going to use towelroot?
Thanks in advance for help.

That is correct. A custom recovery which will let you do a backup will trip KNOX when you install it.
Unless there is a solution to reset KNOX discovered we're stuck with tripped KNOX or stock recoveries.

A stock recovery will only allow you to factory reset, clear the cache, or install signed update.zip files. This means that you cannot do anything custom (like an unofficial rom, tweak, or anything else not samsung signed.) you cannot use it to make nandroid backups, nor can you use it to recover nandroid backups.
A custom recovery allows unsigned flashing, backups, restores, and more.

From what I've heard the knox fuse is sort of a one-time deal. It might not be circumvented. Personally I treat my phone very well and after verifying it worked properly, I picked up a case and rooted+installed a custom recovery. I don't really care about my Knox warranty status. It's certainly something you need to decide personally.

[Q] Messed up Root with SU

Hey guys i need your help..
Acutally i think my problem isnt that big, but i dont want to take any further risk so i better ask before i´ll go on..
What i did.
I installed CWM
I Installed Super SU via CWM.
SU asks two questions while installing. (Overwrite recovery and root question)
Unfortunately i clicked no on the second question.(it says it´s permanent)
Now i dont have root on my device, no triangle, and SU app just stops when i click it.
What I want:
First of all i want root, to do the backup task (efs). Imei and System backup allready done.
Next step i aimed for was installing the Phoenix Rom.
Now my question is:
Can i just flash CFroot (i9505) for my S4 via odin without any risk?
After i have achived root and done the backup, i´ll just install the coustom rom with CWM ?
Thx in advance. Any help is really appreciated.

Hi ,
What custom recovery you have ?
Philz touch has an option to re root system
Go to Philz settings and choose to re root , also there you can deselect the option to verify ROOT ON EXIT so it will not happen again to you
Regarding your questions
CFroot with Odin , should be no problem , only problem depending in what bootloader you have is the knox bit will be triger
for your second question , before install a custom rom change your recovery to Philz or TWRP ( latest) they should work fine with any custom rom
Try Towelroot, no need flashing to get root. Just download/install the app and run it. Simple as that.
This of course if your device is supported.
Well the method with philz recovery worked fine for me now. Thanks
Seems anyway i have triggered the Knox counter:/
doesnt bother me at all, since i wanted to mod my phone anyway, but in worst case scenario, there is still no possibility to set the counter back or?

Weird semi-root situation.

Hi guys,
Yesterday i have rooted a friend's phone with a laptop using the RootGenius application and all worked perfectly and the root is working good.
EDIT: I've tested other root apps on my friend's phone and it's the same problem. So that app didn't rooted correctly.
After that, i rooted my phone wich is a Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition (i9505) and...well, something went wrong there. After the root, all the programs were stopping working. The installed programs were not available and i couldn't open almost any app. I did a factory reset and now it's working fine, but...the root acces it's a little bit f****d up.
If i check the root with Root Checker, it says that i have root access. The superuser app is called KingUser and i never heard of this app.
Now, here comes the problem: if i want to use a root-needed app like GameCIH, for example, i grant the root access, but i can't use the app, it says that i don't have a rooted phone...
I can use the XMODGAMES app wich is also a root-needed app, but i want to use all the root apps, 'cause why not?
I tried to install SuperSU. When i open it, it says that i need to update SU binaries. I press normal, because i don't have a custom recovery and then i grant root acces and then it says: Failed, reboot the phone and try again. I rebooted it a few times and no succes, the same thing.
So what should i do?
Should i unroot it and then re-root it?
If yes, how?
Thanks.
Have a nice day.
Why not just use CF auto-root for flashing. Easiest method and never fails.
Unroot and reroot using CF-Autoroot. Search for the CF-Autoroot thread to learn how it's done.
Be aware however that this will trip the Knox flag.

We have an entire thread on Samsung's Knox software on the forum, but in short the flag is a means for Samsung to tell the phone's firmware has been tampered with.

You can remove King user by clicking on the icon, hold it en move it to the left upper corner ,where it'saing delete app or something like that in Dutch it's "installatie ongedaan maken"

The factory reset dont unroot, i factory reseted and the phone is still in that trouble.
And with the recovery? Can i install TWRP now?
Ok so i figured out what i've done: I have installed Philz Recovery which is a CWM recovery 6 with touch version and it works via an app that boots into recovery (root app that fortunattely worked as root). So what do i need to do now?
If i open SuperSu it says that it needs to update the su binary. When i tap normal it fails and then i tap cwm/twrp, it dosen't do anything, even if i boot into recovery mode. Do i need to install a zip SU-BB? I did it and it didn't work. Any other ideas?

Your information is outdated. TWRP is already on 2.8.7.0 and it's the only one that should be used. Do not use old version because it will give you conflicts with Lollipop.

What you need to do:
- If you are on the latest Philz just perform a full wipe. Reflash the rom. And do what I told you.

SM-N900W8 on n900w8vlu2doh1 - How do I safely root this?

Alright, so - I just got my hands on a Note 3 from a friend in Canada, aaaand naturally the first thing I wanna do with it is root it and stick a ROM on it. But most of the guides I've come across are somewhat outdated, and I'm a little hesitant to follow an outdated guide in case there's a mismatch of some sort with the kernel, bootloader, etc. I really don't wanna brick the thing the same day I get it.
It's on Build Number LRX21V.N900W8VLU2DOH1, Android 5.0/Lollipop, kernel 3.4.0-4348112. Reactivation Lock is off in settings. Again, it's a Canadian phone, and I believe the original carrier was Telus (it's not unlocked but he's going to get me the unlock code later today, supposedly)
I looked through the CF-AutoRoot list and I don't see this particular version available, but I think I saw in a thread on here that other AutoRoot packages will work with it.
I'm not totally clueless here, I've fiddled with my Galaxy S3 plenty and managed not to brick it, but I'd rather look before I leap.

Alrighty. I'm not too worried about the Knox counter as long as that doesn't have any bad implications for the device (no rom flashing or something), I'm certainly not gonna be claiming any warranties.
You need to flash twrp if you want to install a custom rom.
Yup, done, SuperSU's installed and root appears to work! Thanks for the advice. Now I just need to figure out why the back button stopped working. I read there's some custom kernel that fixes this.

If you have an N900W8, you want hlte-can. Honestly, though, it's been so long since I used idleKernel that I'm not 100% sure this is compatible with stock OH1 - best to make a backup with TWRP first.

If you want my advice -
1. Install TWRP 2.8.7.0 (use 2.8.7.0, not 3.x, because 3.x is incompatible with a lot of installers in case you want a custom ROM later on) using Odin (volume down + home when powering on to access download mode for Odin)
2. Make a backup from TWRP (hold volume up + home key when powering on, then choose Backup and check everything, make sure you have room on your microSD card)
3. Install SuperSU from recovery
4. Install idleKernel using the zip file from recovery
That should get you rooted with no issues, and if there's any problem you have a backup to restore from.
Why do you just want to root and install TWRP ??
To do backup
But if you know a good custom rom please send a link to me
Custom rom you want one that works well on your specific model.
