[Q] Possibility of rooting/installing roms/recoveries? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just ordered a G2 and I was wondering, if it comes with an android version higher than 4.2.2, maybe kitkat 4.4.2, can I still root, install recoveries and roms on it???
This is very important to me, if I can't do that it would be just a freaking huge loss.
Thanks in advance.

Depends on what model number where you purchased it from and and also what country there's a good chance it will have 4.4.2 but no way to know until you get it

Think of it like this most new devices will come with the lasted firmware.. All you need for g2 is model and think of latest firmware and start researching
Thanks

for g2 on 4.4.2 kitkat...
root.....towel root ... done, then install supersu from play store if you want control over root
custom recovery... autorec... done

Thanks all. The phone should be here in 5-9 days... if they don't f*** up. Hahaha.
I will probably post a follow-up in this thread again when that happens
Can't wait to be another lucky user of this phone!!

Tried that, not working
There probably won't be one. Loki has been patched, and looks to be permanent. Even DrJbliss said he doesn't think its possible now with the way they patched.
Its pretty safe to say the only way to get a recovery again will be to roll back.

That is not 100% accurate. I have the sprint version and can confirm that it IS possible to have TWRP on this phone with the latest kitkat firmware (4.4.2), the only problem is it breaks download mode, but there is a way to get it back as well and the devs are working on getting them both working at the same time. Additionally, I realize that the OP does not have a Sprint model phone, but if it is possible on one carrier, I would not say it's impossible on another carrier so there is hope.

I have no reason to lie, but you can check out this thread to see it for yourself. I have done this myself and can confirm that I had TWRP working with kitkat on my Sprint LG G2 variant phone. I have since went back to stock rooted because I did not like not having download mode, but as I said it has been done (for the Sprint variant atleast) so there is hope.
BTW. It should go without saying that you should NOT try this method unless you have the Sprint variant of the G2 as it will definitely not work with other carriers and will more than likely hard brick your device and even if you do have a Sprint variant make sure to read the instructions carefully and fully understand what you are doing before doing anything. You have been warned / advised.
Additionally, I am not a dev and I did not come up with or take any credit for this or any other guide. I am simply passing the information along.

I was under the impression that the OP wants to take the OTA, root and flash TWRP. That isn't possible. That part I'm 100% correct on. But the method you linked to for Sprint is available for all other variants I've seen so far, similar anyway. Including VZW. That's why I said roll back, you have to be on the Jelly Bean bootloader.
What's that mean? I cant get TWRP on my d802?
no more custom roms? Is that true or what guys, i mean I'm waiting for a loki to solve the problem and cant go back to stock any more i cant find my rom wich is d80220a, so what, no more hope?! please dont tell me that!!!

There is no trouble downgrading. I have windows 8 and I used Method 2. from this thread: THREAD. OP says that there are problems with win 8. Only thing I "shat brix" is because I didn't installed drivers provided there :crying: Still, I had 4.4.2. and now I have 4.2.2. Tonight, after Champions League, I will install custom recovery and other stuff :victory:

KitKat on Samsung Galaxy Light (T-Mobile Version)

So I've been getting kind of angry that T-Mobile hasn't updated the phone to KitKat and I tried something on my own. Flashing the MetroPCS KitKat software version on my device via Odin. Guess what? It worked. The only thing was that after it updated all the apps, it installed some MetroPCS bloatware. I don't mind that but this is awesome that I was actually able to install the SGH-T399N software on the SGH-T399. Try it for yourself and let me know how it went for you.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that would brick my phone since that's for the SGH-T399N. I have the SGH-T399. Oh and BTW I know they are both pretty much the same, but if I were to flash that, it would probably screw up.

I bet you can port KK to this if you have a stock rom and metro's stock rom with Kitchen.
I have a stock rom zip here:https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347774930
there's a metro KK stock rom zip you can google it.
I think there's a storage mount file you need for kitchen, I wrote one if you need it just ask (i have it in my linux partition, which I'm not on now).
Oh and always have a backup.

If you don't see enough development for this phone now and don't want to wait, then don't buy it. Don't flash something not made for your phone unless you have a backup.
Other than that the phone has a well balanced spec sheet for the price.

[Q] Any hope for rooting N900V lollipop?

Is there any new hopes for rooting updated N900V (lollipop)?
The lollipop update just drains my battery. I miss my old rooted 4.4.2.
Is there a way to rollback and root?

I am also looking to root my sm-n900v on 5.0 lollipop because I cannot stand the Verizon nonsense clogging up my device. Also, I leave for Europe on the 9th and was hoping to use local sims instead of Verizon international. I was under the impression Note 3 was unlocked for this kind of use, but when trying to use a local sim in Mexico, I was told the phone was locked. Is a rooted phone necessary to switch out and use an international SIM? If so I must scramble to figure out another option as I was hoping to root my device, not understanding this was not possible. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I agree. Leading us on but no root.
I'm waiting too
So there is no possible way to root a lollipop Verizon Note 3? That is a bit crazy but the only reason I wanted to root was to remove the pre-installed apps. Please update if anyone has figured out some way. I wish these phones didn't come with all this bloatware. The Samsung apps are fine but Verizon are the ones I'd like to get rid of or at least some of them. Thanks!!

Used lg g2: atnt d802??

Hey, my friend bought a used lg g2. We've tried to identify if it's original or not by checking it with cpu-z online verification. I've found something interesting. It says that it's atnt version, but it says it's d802. How is this possible? It had cyanogenmod pre-installed..
1st thought was that it's d802 with d800 motherboard. Is it possible? If so, which roms should I install?

If it came with a custom ROM most likely the phones is already rooted and has twrp installed. I think you can disable SuperSU setting from developer settings in some Roms. To answer your question, yes you may have a franken phone. Which means that it is refurbished to look like a d802 whne in fact it is a d800. They change the imei and back cover so that you won't know. Do NOT attempt to update the device through lg mobile support tool it will brick your phone.

Yeah i understand that. It should have a custom recovery just for the cyanogen to be there in the first place.
I want to install Cloudy rom for him to have a better overall experience, since i have it installed on my own g2.
If i make a full backup and try installing a cloudy, can i endure any problems if i try the d800 rom?

SM-S902L , need help figuring out witch verizon s5 is a match

The sm-s902l is a new straight talk brand s5 runing kit kat 4.4.2 and uses the verizon network. Im working on rooting this phone and so far have only tried towel root and no suprise even with mod strings.
Anyways i was looking for help trying to get some educated guesses on which verizon phone this one is based off of. To explain straight talk phone users typically flash roms and recoveries made for other phones. Usually this works out fine my last straight talk s3 was using a verzion lolipop build and custom recoverys with minimal issues.
Anyways my guess is the SM-G900v any thoughts?

Really? No love for the straight talk guys? I'm going to try cf-auto-root tonight I'll let you know if I brick my $600 phone. If anyone has a good guess on what cf-auto-root package to use I am definitely open to suggestions.
I just can't live without root if I can't root this damn thing I'm going to go back to my s3

Every rom here will work on your phone. First boot can take up to 20 minutes on a new rom. Make backups.
