Used lg g2: atnt d802?? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, my friend bought a used lg g2. We've tried to identify if it's original or not by checking it with cpu-z online verification. I've found something interesting. It says that it's atnt version, but it says it's d802. How is this possible? It had cyanogenmod pre-installed..
1st thought was that it's d802 with d800 motherboard. Is it possible? If so, which roms should I install?

Can't confirm that right now, i'll check it tomorrow with my friend.
But it actually wasn't rooted. Friend checked it with root checker. That was a surprise for me too, don't all cyanogen roms come pre-rooted?

If it came with a custom ROM most likely the phones is already rooted and has twrp installed. I think you can disable SuperSU setting from developer settings in some Roms. To answer your question, yes you may have a franken phone. Which means that it is refurbished to look like a d802 whne in fact it is a d800. They change the imei and back cover so that you won't know. Do NOT attempt to update the device through lg mobile support tool it will brick your phone.

Yeah i understand that. It should have a custom recovery just for the cyanogen to be there in the first place.
I want to install Cloudy rom for him to have a better overall experience, since i have it installed on my own g2.
If i make a full backup and try installing a cloudy, can i endure any problems if i try the d800 rom?

[Q] Possibility of rooting/installing roms/recoveries?

I just ordered a G2 and I was wondering, if it comes with an android version higher than 4.2.2, maybe kitkat 4.4.2, can I still root, install recoveries and roms on it???
This is very important to me, if I can't do that it would be just a freaking huge loss.
Thanks in advance.
Depends on what model number where you purchased it from and and also what country there's a good chance it will have 4.4.2 but no way to know until you get it

Think of it like this most new devices will come with the lasted firmware.. All you need for g2 is model and think of latest firmware and start researching
Thanks

for g2 on 4.4.2 kitkat...
root.....towel root ... done, then install supersu from play store if you want control over root
custom recovery... autorec... done
Thanks all. The phone should be here in 5-9 days... if they don't f*** up. Hahaha.
I will probably post a follow-up in this thread again when that happens
Can't wait to be another lucky user of this phone!!

Boot Loader Unlock

Seems to work for my G Flex. Maybe it can work for the G3? I think this works for the LG Volt too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-flex/general/bootloader-unlock-t3139086/post61441100#post61441100
I don't know if it can really be this easy... my F460K i showing as unlocked now though so here is hoping
-edit- Still results in a secure booting error when flashing a recovery. But now if we can replace the actual bootloader with say the 855 unlocked version... or maybe even the unlocked T-mo version. Hrmm...
Totally worked D855 LG G3
yep it worked without any loose of my data or bricked mu phone, LG G3 D855 on crDroid AOSP ROM Lolipop, maybe this is the best solution for the LG G4 juts saying
So whats the matter with this? A real bootloader unlock?

guys this was the first thing people here tried(including me),this does cause a false positive by saying unlocked but it doesn't acctually disable the signature check, nice try but no it won't work
I thought it seemed a little too simple to have not been thought of already. Flashfire still shows it as "secured" as well.
On the Flex it allows me to flash a twrp recovery. So I thought it would be worth a share

Possible refurbished device with incorrect model no., need help from experts

I'll be quick so no ones time is wasted and a viable solution can be found fast.
I bought a D802 from a third-party, with:
- 32GB ROM
- 4.4.2 D80220b firmware
- 2G, 3G, 4G working
- The csmg.lgmobile.com website said that according to my IMEI, my model is the UAE 32GB D802 and gave me the D80230a firmware for manual flash via LG Flash tool. (screenshot below)
I used the phone for a while, rooted it and used Xposed. Never got recovery so no backup(wish I'd seen the SRK tool before). Then I downloaded the firmware from the csmg.lgmobile.com website. I flashed it via the Flash tool and everything seemed fine. Then it booted:
- Touchscreen was erratic. Ghost touches, dead spots, phantom touches, whatever.
- The Baseband Version and IMEI in About Phone both say Unknown
- ROM has converted to a 16GB version
- Download mode is fine along with every other feature of the phone
After that I looked around and found a UAE D80220c firmware and flashed that. It flashed fine but all the above issues remained the same.
I browsed around extensively here and found out:
- Refurbished phones have their back cover and firmware changed to imitate D802's.
- My phone is probably some other G2 model with D802 firmware and an altered IMEI
- The actual model of my device is UNDER the motherboard. Which, apparently, I must get hold of so I can flash the appropriate stock kdz. This gets a bit too hardware-y for me.
So, basically, my phone is no more useful than a brick at the moment. Any expert help would be appreciated but here are the main questions that I'd really like answered:
A. Should I try various flashing the kdz files from different models mentioned in the link I gave up ^there until one clicks and then try to do something about the IMEI?
B. Is there any chance that my phone is beyond repair forever?
C. Should I stop messing around with my mediocre knowledge and take it to a repair shop?
I really can't afford to lose this phone so please, if you've stumbled upon this, try to help or forward it to someone who CAN help. I will be very thankful.
Cannot really help you. But look for Frankenphone. There's a thread here.
I would return the phone. That's fraud.
Go by this method.

B. I doubt it's beyond repair, it will just take you time and work to figure out what is what and how to get it back to working state. I think everything you need can be found already here, I saw a lot of posts with the similar problems and really hard bricks being solved. Just be patient and good luck.

Thanks for that link. I'm checking it out. That Mudassar007 guy lives in my city. I'm trying to get a hold of him. Willing to pay to get my phone fixed.
@edisso10018 Believe me, sir. If that was an option, I'd go for it. Unfortunately, I bought it online.
You have to confirm your mobile actual model. By opening it back cover.
Are you sure that 4G/LTE is working before Mobile going in this state?

Possible refurbished G2 D802
Guys i bought an LG G2 D802 from a third party. i tried to install TWRP using AUTOREC for D802. My phone went into a bootloop. Luckily i had made a backup with SRK tool, so my G2 is up and running. I think my phone is refurbished because i have seen other G2's with D802 backcovers in that market but their IMEI no. was D800. My IMEI no. , backcover and software all say D802. I Dont want to open up my phone because it is confusing for me because i know there will be 2 to 3 model no.s written inside it. My question is can i find out my model no. by installing all autorec recoveries for g2 on my phone after making backup on SRK Tool. When i get the TWRP recovery on my phone i will know which model my phone is. Plz people who are expert of SRK tool help me...
Also will my Imei no. stay safe if i backup from srk tool.

is my lg G2 D802 or D803 ? plzzz help

So I bought second hand lg g2 a couple of days ago ... It was already rooted probably refurbished ... It has stock KitKat 4.4.2 ... It says in the software and hardware control settings that it's D802 but I installed TITANIUM BACKUP ... And all the software installed says it's for D803b22e ... It doesn't have a recovery and I want to update to android 6.0 ... Can someone help me which one should I flash ? :/

If I were you I would stick with what the phones settings is calling it as a D802. The D802 is the international version of the G2. AnTuTu Benchmark will show you some more info about the phone in the apps info tab.

Amm isn't there a sure way to find my model number i'm afraid it would brick if i update it ... happened to my Friends G2 ... it was actually D800 model but showed D802 in the settings.
I suggest looking at the serial number behind the battery to help identify which model you have. Then, I would install AnTuTu Benchmark and open the info tab and read through everything there. Also, if you remove the back cover and look near the bottom on the antenna module the model number is listed as well. Check out this site for a little help:
http://www.etradesupply.com/blog/how-to-find-lg-g2-model-number/
You can also use the IMEI to identify the device as well. Write down the IMEI and use your Google-Fu and search for a site to check IMEI's.
Try this site as well. It works pretty well too.

Yup it says D801/D803
If your motherboard shows D801 then that is what you have plus the numbers on the antenna module shows D801/D803. There has been a big problem with refurbished LG G2's. Check out this thread for some more information.

Flashing different rom variants to VS980

Can I flash a custom ROM made for D802 orD800 to the VS989 Verizon model and expect it to work?

Some ROMs include the Aroma configuration applet which runs at install time and gives a list of variants to choose from. This theoretically allows installation on cross variants as you are asking, but sometimes can also mess up your phone, so is not a sure thing.
But I'd say that just installing a ROM that is targeted for a D802 on a D800 is not advisable, and is risky. Be prepared to unbrick your phone, or fix a bootloop problem, or deal with some other type of problem. I myself certainly wouldn't do such a thing without first finding some posts from one or more individuals who had successfully done so.
