flashing old modems? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I flash old modems or radios? I've gone through hell with this device and have only gotten signal once.
If I can't get full 4G than it doesn't connect and has no bars and a circle with a line through it.
I'm running safestrap, stock rooted, so if I can flash different modems please let me know. Thanks so much! !!

Yes you can, just use the modems from THIS thread and flash them with Odin.

thank you but I think I have a real problem on my hands. I looked at my buddies galaxy note 3 and in his settings I could see his hardware version and in mine its blank. I haven't been able to receive any signal on the device since I got it, but on WiFi it works. I know for about 2 hours I had 4G and it it wasn't a strong signal it would go beck to no signal no service. Even when it had full 4G I couldn't place a call, I'd get mobile network unavailable.
I really appreciate the help and I will be sending you thanks when I get home

You may want to try flashing the full stock tar file.

I flashed mje modem in on nc4 stock, seems to be a little better. Nc4 i was having same issues as you, now i stay mostly 4g with max 2 bars, instead of being 3g and 1 bar. Lol just get odin 3.09 and load mje modem in AP and walah!

do you guys think this could be like an internal hardware problem? I flashed all the stock firmwares and all sorts of different radio frequencies and it's always the same thing. just a circle with a line through it and no bars

I ended up giving the phone back to the person I got it from and they say that they are going to try and return it to Verizon because it's defective. The only issue I'm having now is I can't find the slip cover that has the IMEI on it. I'm pretty sure its at my house but if not is there anything I can do? Contact Samsung and see if maybe they can send another one I'm not sure.

[Q] Installing another S4 carrier's modem

I have an I337 running on tmobile network. I have tried both tmobile's and at&ts roms and both get 4g but the att&t rom seem to connect faster. I am currently on mdl modem and woul like to experiment with tmobile's modems and am wondering if it is safe?
Thanks in advance

I heard doing this could possibly erase your IMEI number. Personally, I'd only flash my carrier's modems. Just to be on the safe side.
Its not wise to use other carriers modems, and it will clear the IMEI, but I have heard that it can be done. Kinda of a hit and miss thing, if you are going to pursue it, backup your efs first.

Your welcome, and trust me, do not get into the IMEI restore thing, you talking about a pain, try that once.
good choice. in all the diff radios i have flashed on various phones they gave no more than minimal improvement if any
i thought initially the mf3 radio was better, now not sure

I hope I'll never have to go through that but if I did, can you share the steps? With my s3 (may it rest in peace) a simple "reboot nvbackup" and "reboot nvrestore"command in terminal emulator was all it took, and it saved me many times. Would this also work with the s4?

You're right that has been my experiences with different radios also.
replacing the IMEI, talk about a hardline approach from Samsung.
I remember on my S1 flashing radios from S1's all over the world, Europe, China etc etc
Though thanks for this thread, I was actually wondering about flashing a canadian modem, to unlock AWS and since it's one build higher than the AT&T modem
Just a reminder, it is not wise to run other carriers modems, the modems we have are sufficient to do what you need, and if you find a way, you will not see much of a change if any.
Good luck to all.

Hey man, i am starting to think i would have to flash another variants modem on my s4 m919v because i dont see any modem files for my phone on xda or atleast i cant find many because this variant isnt all that common. What do you think its possible right?
Oh and the reason i want to flash modem is because i want to flash an older modem for s4s that allowed them to be unlocked using the *#0011# code and i cant do that currently. I have heard flashing an older one will allow me to unlock my phone.

Galaxy S4 Reception - Flash New Radio?

Ever since I got my new Galaxy S4 (Fido) the other day my reception has been less than expected. I get 1/2 bars in a room in my house where my previous phone (Motorola Atrix 4G) had full bars. I already exchanged the phone for another S4 and the new one has the same issue. The only constant is my SIM card which I will try and replace, but if that doesn't work are there any reliable radios which can be flashed on the S4? I know for the Motorola Atrix 4G there were some better radios compared to stock which gave me great reception. If this is the same for the S4 can somebody please post a link to the radios I can try? Thanks!
You should flash the modem appropriate for your region. There is a big modem thread in the General section with lots of resources available to you.
Thanks for the reply! Although I can't seem to find the Canada modems for the i9505. Canada isn't listed in the firmware checker link provided in that post. Can anyone recommend or let me know which modems are compatible with a Canadian i9505? The baseband of my phone right now is l337MVLUFNC1.
Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly. I haven't flashed anything on my phone yet, it's all still stock. I'm waiting to flash a new ROM and modem since when I do I can't bring back the phone anymore and as of right now I'm thinking about returning it since I'm having bad reception. If someone can tell me for certain that a specific Canadian modem will give me good reception then I'll be more likely to keep the phone.

HELP! WiFi Issues

Sorry I'm a noon, don't do all those font sizes and colours and pictures aha but basically... I've been on CyanogenMod for about a year now and have never had WiFi issues. Been using cm12 nightlies for most of this year with no problem however, after updating my nightly the past two days I've been experiencing WiFi Drops happening every min and a half or so. So annoying. I've used Wifix apps etc, no luck. I've reverted to old night lies I used to run without any problems however the problem stays. I've consider flashing back to TouchWiz to see if that helps it but I really don't want to
Can someone please help me. My phone is on contract and my bill is overdue so I won't have mobile data until it's cleared (around June) so if I don't have WiFi, I'm screwed.

Have you tried flashing a new modem? This generally fixes wifi (and sound issues if there are any)
I barely know what a modem is haha but if that's the case, I'll try today.
Here you have a list of modems. Read the topic as it also has some info and the flashing guide.
You need to go to sammobile firmware checker and input your phone model, country and carrier. Then it will show you the correct firmware for your country and carrier. Based on that, download the modem. Make sure you get the latest modem. If you can't find the latest modem on the linked thread, there was another thread with all the latest modems, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I'm on 5.02 CM12, I downloaded the latest modem for my GT-I9505 which matched the firmware code for a 4.4.2 S4 however still no luck ffs. This is really annoying, i don't know how my WiFi could jist shut off on me like that :/. Looks like I'm going to have to buy myself a new phone then. Can't use my mobile data for a couple months as my carrier has blocked me until I pay off my bill and now with my wifi disconnecting every 2 mins, I basically cannot use the internet. So frustrated.
I've flashed new nightlies, changed baseband versions, factory reset my phone and still no luck. What makes things worse is i cannot see any other threads with people in my postition so help is so minimal :/. Annoyed is an understatement.

If you updated bootloader then you can't go back to kitkat roms. Only the 5.0 lollipop roms. But Samsung hasn't released the official update in all countries.
If it still doesn't work, even with official firmware, then it might be hardware related. Maybe even your wifi router.

Wifi issues are often kernel related. Not always...but often.

No service after rooting

So I got this Note 3 as a gift from a relative. So I don't have much info on it. Apart from it having Vodafone Bloat pre-installed. I have the device on stock rom Android version 4.4.2, and NG1 baseband. So I tried rooting with CF-autoroot and it successfully rooted but unfortunately ever since I rooted it, there's no network. It reads the sim, but it doesn't register to any network. I also installed Xposed right after rooting before realizing the issue when trying to download modules (since samsung has a bad habit of showing me network bars even without a sim)
So now I'm in dire need of a solution since this is my only working phone at the moment and I'll be leaving tomorrow for Eid at a relative's house where I won't have my PC.
I've looked around in the forums but there's no definite solution. No, I didn't flash stock back yet. I'll have to wait till 12AM when my ISP doubles my speed. But any tinkering I can do now?

I've gotten some amazing speeds with the APK1 modem. Check what server your Speedtest app is using. The T-Mobile servers seem to give the fastest results in my experience, but the app doesn't always default to them.
how could I check real speed?

So how does this work again ? I'm already rooted, running Xposed on U firmware am I able to just flash this apk via flash fire to improve speeds I guess? or is that going to mess things up as far as xposed and root go ?

I believe you need to use Odin to flash the CP file. I'm not sure if there is a way to do it with flash fire.

Does that mean I might lose root?

It's just the modem file, it shouldn't have anything to do with root as long as you just flash that one.

Thanks Bud. I just have to get confirmation on is something I can do via flash fire or just Odin I'm assuming I'll use the CP tab to flash it

Yep, CP tab in Odin if you go that route.

Thanks. I'm going to hold off until I see if someone has done it with a set up similar to mines I'd hate to have to re flash everything if something goes wrong
you mentioned something about changing the core speeds you mean the fix from toolkit kernel right? changing it to interactive and maxing out the small and big cores if there are any other fixes let me know I want this thing blazing fast
