APK1 Modem slow on GM935U - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

So I wiped clean my phone and started from scratch using the APK1 Modem on a GM93U Rom, its working but its not that fast, I'm in the LA area and I see people posted getting crazy numbers like 100mbs+, anyone else having this issue?

Not slow on my end. And that's even while using adguard.

How are you checking your speed?

Speedtest app

Can you watch Youtube, Google Movies, etc without it buffering? That means more to me than what Speednet numbers say. If I can watch what I want to watch I could careless it I was getting 1 mbps.

I've gotten some amazing speeds with the APK1 modem. Check what server your Speedtest app is using. The T-Mobile servers seem to give the fastest results in my experience, but the app doesn't always default to them.

how could I check real speed?

So how does this work again ? I'm already rooted, running Xposed on U firmware am I able to just flash this apk via flash fire to improve speeds I guess? or is that going to mess things up as far as xposed and root go ?

I believe you need to use Odin to flash the CP file. I'm not sure if there is a way to do it with flash fire.

It's just the modem file, it shouldn't have anything to do with root as long as you just flash that one.

Thanks Bud. I just have to get confirmation on is something I can do via flash fire or just Odin I'm assuming I'll use the CP tab to flash it

Dj20 was cellular souths baseband I believe, however was it properly flashed? I don't use them but I don't see why it wouldn't work with eb01 if your settings were correctly tuned. Have you tried a prl update (*228)?
Flash Eb01 modem and all...see if that works. If it doesn't you can always odin it back. Baseband dj20 probably is having issurs with dl30.

Oh dear god. DO NOT flash eb01 radio. This is not a Verizon phone, and it will not fix your problem! In fact, it may make it worse.
M iys t of the roms are based on the Verizon modems, if you flashed to any of these that may be your problem. Search for a Cellular South modem and see if that will help.

I happily use vzw modems and your roms with cricket on custom prl files. The settings in qpdt just have to be tweaked correctly in my case. It's not a guaranteed fix. But he could flash back dj20.
On second thought, you may have more trouble than it's worth as I don't know if you know their ppp cong passwords or accurate addresses for your phone. Plus after a quick search, i've found threads in the past about this issue...and from reading, the modems work but require apn settings amd what not to be corrected. But personally, I believe you're having a conflict between the current baseband and dl30. That setup was bassed off of dj09 and dj05. I would get the eb01 modem amd all and try. Also find the dj20 files to revert back if it doesn't. But I honestly don't see y it wouldn't. Also, have you tried updating your prl?

Np man...if you ever run into any other issues you know where to find me. Just a heads up, *228 may not work in the future. So keep your ears to the ground for prl updates. You may have to flash manually.
Edit: Make sure net and mms are working properly, I had to maually edit the apns and what not on mine. Some don't, and some do. But since it's been awhile since your last post I'm assuming everything is peachy.

That's what I was waiting for lol. You will have to tune the apns and stuff. There is a cellular south forum, those guys should have the correct settings. I'm not familiar if cellular south uses proxies and all that stuff. This is the same issue cricket and metro pcs ppl have when using flashed phones. Often they have to be registered as something else. If it proves to much, just odin back as I suggested earlier.
Do you show a 3g icon?

CelluarSouth's forums really suck. I looked in the forum for my phone and there was like 5 threads with no replies. My friend has a showcase and it isn't flashed or rooted at all. Can I get the stock baseband from it and somehow flash it to my phone? I had a backup before I started flashing stuff and I used it but it didn't bring my baseband back to DJ20.

First use Motochopper to root so you can use Titanium Backup to freeze the bloat (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248 this one will work).
Then you can install Goomananger so you can install TWRP (menu=>install open recovery): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager
Finally, if you're feeling brave, you can do a backup of your phone first then try installing CyanogenMod: http://get.cm/?device=jfltecan
The Canadian model is jfltecan. Remember to install GAPPS (http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip)
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE.

unfortunately there is no firmware for (M) variant on the net. There is AT&T (USA) firmware, but for I337,
any way try to wipe cache via recovery.

Whats strange about it is the fact that right away, it had lag. I will try wiping the cache and will let you know.

Should I install a custom recovery as suggested earlier?

Someone else tried already. Apparently it will run. but without a Canadian modem to flash, there will be no network signal or wifi working.
When we have a modem to flash we should be OK.

I too have an SGH-i337M (TELUS). Did you do the official update to build I337MVLUAMDJ? I had originally bought my phone on the unfinished I337MVLUAMDC and when I did the update a lot of the lag went away. However, I still had to freeze a lot of unwanted apps though settings > app manager, however I did come across a list of apps that were safe to remove/disable on the S3 (Some, not all are also found on the S4). You can see the list HERE.
Hopefully we'll see a list like this for the S4 soon.
[EDIT]
Also to note, I also came from a Nexus 4 and can definitely feel the difference as well, but the Nexus also didn't have bloatware running.

Mine came with the official build I337MVLUAMDJ and it was laggy as hell!
After rooting and removing lots of bloatware, it was still slow.
What cured my lag, was downloading the stock Firmware from Kies (and saving the file from temp folder, instead of using kies for the restore) and flashed it with odin. After restoring my backup from MyBackup Pro, its fast!
Why should we need to do all this work for a brand new phone. Good job Samsumg lol

Oh cool, I guess that works too lol. I managed to fix a majority of my lag after running a recovery script called "PalaTool" which was originally released for the Galaxy S III. The tool was designed to remove bloatware and allowed you to install optional UI changes and apps that could optimize things like Fast Dormancy, etc. Running the tool unfortunately doesn't remove the bloat, but it did with the Seeder Entropy Pool.

[Q] cant unbirck help please

so my friend download an app and didn't read anything about it before he installed the app. The app was suppose to replace the home launcher but he was suppose to install another app before he installed it but he didn't. I have tried Odin, Kies, and Heimdall with no luck. I have tried them on different computers and with different cables. His phone is a SGH-I337, yes it is rooted but only for one app that was installed that doesn't affect anything. But now it only go to the download screen with the android man even when booted up normally it only fails the [auth] on Odin and it wouldn't even connect to Kies. Any help would be GREAT, he is only giving me 2 day to try and fix it for him then he is going to buy a new phone. Thanks in advance EVEN IF ITS JUST GUESS I'll still give it a try.

thank you but I think I have a real problem on my hands. I looked at my buddies galaxy note 3 and in his settings I could see his hardware version and in mine its blank. I haven't been able to receive any signal on the device since I got it, but on WiFi it works. I know for about 2 hours I had 4G and it it wasn't a strong signal it would go beck to no signal no service. Even when it had full 4G I couldn't place a call, I'd get mobile network unavailable.
I really appreciate the help and I will be sending you thanks when I get home

I ended up giving the phone back to the person I got it from and they say that they are going to try and return it to Verizon because it's defective. The only issue I'm having now is I can't find the slip cover that has the IMEI on it. I'm pretty sure its at my house but if not is there anything I can do? Contact Samsung and see if maybe they can send another one I'm not sure.

0% without terrible hacks that require the phone be unusable. It's built into the combo/eng bootloader that makes root possible

I see, Thank you for that information. I guess I will wait to see if Xposed Framework is made to work with this device.
My only real draw to rooting is the Per App DPI and a modified hotspot app

They were able to overcome this with the S7, and Keep samsung pay working so I am hopeful they will find a way for the note8.
It might take awhile but it will come. Other than 1 or 2 mods i feel no need to root. But I would like to have the dual speaker mod.
Peace
This setup runs very smooth and fast. System root, no lag. Very resource friendly.
how do you like root so far? I just put the unlocked version would it be worth going to the rooted version?
Rooted then reverted back to stock but now I can't get any of the stock Verizon apps back ie visual voicemail app. Does anybody know how to get these back? I wanna be able to update to Oreo later on without any issues.

I don't have one, I want one though. If all else fails, after rooting I was able to the ADB trick, but I still have to turn off mobile data, turn on hotspot, turn mobile data back on.
I really want to be able to click the hostpot button and have it just turn on.

Did you flash the userdata partition when returning to stock?

Thanks for your reply.
I heard about doing that but didn't know how. I do know that I have the Verizon boot up screen and the 4G LTE logo for the data. It looks like I got HD voice but not for video. I can't even get WiFi calling to activate too.
If you could help me that would be great otherwise I might have to do a warranty replacement which is a last resort that I don't want to do in the first place.

Hi, were you able to flash the userdata partition? I'm not sure how to do this or if I even have the necessary file if needed. I was able to get the UMS button to show with your instruction but now I'm stuck.

Is this under the option tab or UMS button? Do I need another file? Seems like I'm missing something. I'm going to do a search here in the mean time. Btw it seems like I have to use Comsy Odin 3.12 to flash my files without errors.
Thanks for all of your help so far.
Ok looks like I finally was able to get all my Verizon apps back on it. I had to download the N950U firmware which had the USERDATA file that I needed to flash. I'm not sure why there is even a N950U1 firmware to begin with.
I have the August security patch and is still have the U1 baseband. WiFi calling is working but I didn't activate my visual voicemail yet but the app is there though. I didn't activate video calling yet because I would need to setup basic voicemail service first.
Thanks again for all of the help guys.
