Whatsapp voice notes, horrible quality. - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Someone have the same problem?

I having this problem too! does anyone knows a fix?
The voice quality is terrible and its not the mic issue as i tested recording voice through the lg voice recorder app and it sounds great. it only happens with whatsapp.
tested with two g2's, both same problem. one custom rom, one stock.

g2 has 2 mics, 1 for recording n 1 for noise cancellation, whatsapp im guessing, uses the noise cancellation mic hence the terrible quality

+1. I have the same problem too.

is there a workaround or fix for this problem !?

Guys maybe whatsapp is just like with the images doing everything to make it smaller, did you guys tryed whatsapp plus?

So could you guys try maybe once whatsapp plus? Whatsapp services makes almost every thing smaller by reducing the quality of stuff so does maybe the mic app from whatsapp. What you could also try is to Talk to both mic's you have on the device and hear if one is louder, if so then the second is probably used by whatsapp.

No news?

my G2 has 3 mics. I've tried covering each individually and making a voice note with little perceptible difference in quality.
I emailed whatsapp about this and obviously did not hear back from them.
why don't one of us track down their physical address and phone number and call them every week to complain? Does this interest anyone? Anyone interested?
they ignore their email inbox.
in the mean time, write a 1 star review like me. Make sure you reference "LG G2 terrible voice note quality" in the subject. here's the play store link.

Video sound quality - pretty bad

Hi all
Did not come across any threads about this yet, surprisingly!
I was recording video out in a nightclub, and was very disappointed to find that the music sounded horrible. Never had such problem on my HTC one when recording at concerts or clubs.
Here is the link of the video, I uploaded on youTube
http://youtu.be/SMpa7rumrHY
Otherwise, the OnePlus has been awesome so far!
Trance family, you listen to Markus Schulz? Love trance! Sucks about the sound, you on stock app?
Sound quality in general when it comes to recording nightclubs/gigs/concerts are pretty bad with the bass etc etc.
Not to mention "Turn It Up" is a song that involves a lot of bass and drops.
Try it in a closed atmosphere like at home and test the quality of the sound.
Ensure audio codec is AAC as well.

haha yeh man love markus Schulz! one of my fav trance DJs
yeh stock camera app, running 33R stock and Franco 20 kernel.
I noticed this as well. I really doesn't take a lot to distort the audio with OPO (and surprisingly when I had my Samsung Note 2 and ran a CM based rom I had this problem as well, using stock samsung camera / rom not a problem).
Not sure if this is phone related or just the camera app/rom combo.
I do have a sub in my car but I have recorded clearly with my old Note 2 but OPO it distorts like a mofo. It's quite embarrassing.

Damm thats a bad mic...it sounds horrible
I wanted to make the switch from the m7 too,but i do record sometimes at concerts and clubs...And the htc m7 does this perfect.
So this is a no go for me this oneplus one,A pitty):
The early m7s had dual membrane mics specifically for recording in very loud concert environments. Some supply issue came up with the manufacturer and they had to stop supplying to htc because of nokia.

Yep I remember that when the M7 came out, it was a bit of a fuss!
Ah familiar issue.
Went to a party last week and recorded some videos, as soon as the bass drops you only hear crackling noises on the video.
Friend recorded with his iphone and the recorded audio sounded a LOT better.
I also tried to cover the microphone to see if that helped but it made no difference.
Known Bug
That's a known issue.
Have a look at the Cyanogenmod JIRA Ticket No. BACON-64

has anybody found a fix for this? will changing to a different rom solve the problem? cyanogen just dont wanna fix this problem. its been a reported bug for ages now. even before the OPO.
I m also facing the same problem, please let us know if anyone find a fix
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
This problem can be fixed with the Boeffla-Kernel for OPO, but they need the technical documentaion of the "WDC9320" audio codec.

Does somebody know whether it for it already a solution has given?
Found this on the OP forums
Code:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/audio-clipping-in-loud-environments.108129/
:
"So ive tried heaps of things to try and fix this bug, one thing that may have worked is downloading this free app from the app store
Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grace.microphone&hl=en
and setting mic gain to 0. i have done this and the audio quality has increased 100% and is comparable with the iphone."
Most likely a ****ty mic on the oneplus, nothing to do with the software.
HTC one uses unlicensed mic from Nokia, which is far superior.
Bump
Does anyone know whether this bug is present in Oxygen OS or not?

Earpiece quality?

I am not too impressed with the earpiece quality on the Note 4 I have here. I suspect it may be marginally faulty.
When the volume is reasonable loud (such as one or two clicks down from the top), if the person talking has quite a resonant voice, the sound is a bit rattly. I can still make out everything perfectly clearly, but it bugs me a bit.
I was curious how others found the earpiece quality on theirs?

agree. not the best i have seen. S5 sounds much better and fuller.
Same issue here. Iphome sounds much better. I swapped the sim cars and called the same person to check the sound.
One thing I have noticed is that if I play a song or a voice clip through the earpiece, it's crystal clear. It's only the phone call that's making the issue.

BTW I think I have solved the issue. The call sound settings checked clear sound.

The problem with call quality as is that it might be the earpiece, the voice decoder, baseband/antenna, the network, or any (or all) of the above for the person on the other network. If the other person's phone is having an issue encoding the call, yes, it could affect your phone when it decodes.
If you're going to make test calls, call a landline.
Also, go through the call settings in the phone app on your Note 4. The noise cancelling options WILL affect the voice quality, as will the post processing (There's a personalize call sound option with several options)

Second Skyvalex! Been using it for a long time now, great app! However on my currently un-rooted S7E the recording is full of echoes but I have only tried the standard API method so far.
Thx for the prompt reply guys, appreciated!
Phil
If you're rooted you can activate the native call recorder by adding this line in /system/csc/others.xml (before </FeatureSet> at the end of the file)
<CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>RecordingAllowed</CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>
It is true you can activate native recording however you have no control over it really. Skyvalex has a myriad of options etc.... the best I have come across as well as cloud support etc...

Record yourside using your microphone, the other party shall do the same also! Microphone recording can be very accurate if you use a rooted phone. As far as I know, it's not all about API dependent.

yep, what I meant is that on some phones, where call recording is disabled in software/hardware, you are still able to record a call using some programs, but you almost not hear the person you speak with, because only thing phone records is source from phone microphone.
So when you play recording you hear only yourself and sometimes if it was quite in the room - the other side very silent, impossible to understand what is talking about.
So my question is - is call recording useful and easy to hear/understand everything what was recorded?

This is why I'm asking people, who owns already this phone if they are satisfied with call recording quality.
You said rooted phones offers more, but if I"m right - there is already root available for S7 (and Edge).

various features of the HTC u ultra

Hi
How are the microphones in the u ultra, they're supposed to be high quality, how does the quality of the audio recording compares for instance to the pixel or LG? Can you detect any special quality about them?
How Is the sense companion and its utilisation in the small screen above does it work well or just a gimmick?
Did you try to operate the u ultra with voice commands? I read that the microphones are constantly on and listening
Thank you

Well I have been using U Ultra with voice commands amd they have been accurate. Audio quality of recording is godly as compared to any other phone in my experience. In the video recording option it has option to switch between Hi-res audio and 3d audio. In my opinion, no other phone can touch this when it comes to audio.
Sense companion is okayish. It complements google in some ways. It gives recommendations of places for lunch dinner etc, storage getting full, boost+ app cleanup (annoying actually).
Second screen is helpful in changing music, quick calls and event notifications. Haven't really gotten used to it in the 2 months I have been using it.

Call quality

When you call granny, does she keep saying "Huh?! Wut?!" or does the conversation flow pretty well? Rate this thread to express how you feel about the ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019)'s call quality. A higher rating indicates that calls are clear and crisp, and that regardless of background noise, you can hear the other party clearly (and with ample volume) and they can hear you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
This is specifically for Indian variant.

Can anyone confirm if this sound quality issue during calls (due to the speaker being inside the flipcam) only affects the indian variant? I wanted to buy the global variant sold in Europe and I find it odd that no one is talking about this huge issue while calling... Especially very well known youtube reviewers.
If this affects all the variants, it's a major failure from Asus...

I cannot confirm this problem with European distribution in O2 network. What makes it strange, in Europe, ZF6 does not support VoLTE, but it supports VoLTE in India. Yet VoLTE is supposed to improve call quality, it doesn't make sense ...

Anyway, something must be different in India ZF6 version...
No such issues for me here in Sweden, although I don't do so many calls using the earpiece, and I don't use VoLTE.
It's also quite loud I have to reduce the volume 1 or 2 notches below maximum.

Maybe because VoLTE uses a wider range of sound frequencies make the problem more apparent... Or there is some software bug/coded configuration in some operators. Do O2 supports VoiceHD codec over 3G? It should have a similar sound quality to VoLTE. VoiceHD is usually supported between compatible mobile terminals during calls between clients of the same operator.

Thank you for your feedback.
Here in Portugal we have operators that support VoLTE, although I think Asus does not currently support their VoLTE. I asked ASUS technical support about that 2.5 weeks ago without any reply yet. In Portugal we have operators, such as Vodafone, that supports VoiceHD over 3G, which gives a similar call quality to VoLTE, but only works for calls between the same operator. I also asked for VoiceHD codec support. I can live without VoLTE if, at leats, VoiceHD support is enabled. I use it for 6 years now and it really makes a huge difference.

You are wrong, the ZF6 ear speaker is placed in the flip camera body, not in the phone body. There is only a sound grid in the phone through which the sound passes, but the sound is created in the body of the flip camera. Play some music and try to rotate the camera while listening to ear speaker, you will find out that it is designed that way I describe it.

@shivareddy456 Some have reported that their sound improves at high volume when they put their finger on the camera module. Does this happen to you? The sound quality doesn't change on my test unit no matter if I keep my finger on it or not, but maybe it does on some units. That would explain why you think it isn't acceptable if you can hear a difference. It's never going to sound great because we didn't have much room to work with. The earpiece is located inside the camera module but it should sound acceptable and in line with the quality you get from most phones.

So, reduced sound quality is just a feature of this phone...
The speaker is in the camera module? Just another strike against this phone for sure. I still think my 8/256 OnePlus 6 is better than this phone top-to-bottom. Such a shame.
