Video sound quality - pretty bad - ONE General

Hi all
Did not come across any threads about this yet, surprisingly!
I was recording video out in a nightclub, and was very disappointed to find that the music sounded horrible. Never had such problem on my HTC one when recording at concerts or clubs.
Here is the link of the video, I uploaded on youTube
http://youtu.be/SMpa7rumrHY
Otherwise, the OnePlus has been awesome so far!

Trance family, you listen to Markus Schulz? Love trance! Sucks about the sound, you on stock app?

Sound quality in general when it comes to recording nightclubs/gigs/concerts are pretty bad with the bass etc etc.
Not to mention "Turn It Up" is a song that involves a lot of bass and drops.
Try it in a closed atmosphere like at home and test the quality of the sound.
Ensure audio codec is AAC as well.

haha yeh man love markus Schulz! one of my fav trance DJs
yeh stock camera app, running 33R stock and Franco 20 kernel.

I noticed this as well. I really doesn't take a lot to distort the audio with OPO (and surprisingly when I had my Samsung Note 2 and ran a CM based rom I had this problem as well, using stock samsung camera / rom not a problem).
Not sure if this is phone related or just the camera app/rom combo.
I do have a sub in my car but I have recorded clearly with my old Note 2 but OPO it distorts like a mofo. It's quite embarrassing.

Damm thats a bad mic...it sounds horrible
I wanted to make the switch from the m7 too,but i do record sometimes at concerts and clubs...And the htc m7 does this perfect.
So this is a no go for me this oneplus one,A pitty):

The early m7s had dual membrane mics specifically for recording in very loud concert environments. Some supply issue came up with the manufacturer and they had to stop supplying to htc because of nokia.

Yep I remember that when the M7 came out, it was a bit of a fuss!

Ah familiar issue.
Went to a party last week and recorded some videos, as soon as the bass drops you only hear crackling noises on the video.
Friend recorded with his iphone and the recorded audio sounded a LOT better.
I also tried to cover the microphone to see if that helped but it made no difference.

Known Bug
That's a known issue.
Have a look at the Cyanogenmod JIRA Ticket No. BACON-64
If you are registered there, please give it a vote, so it will soon be fixed.

has anybody found a fix for this? will changing to a different rom solve the problem? cyanogen just dont wanna fix this problem. its been a reported bug for ages now. even before the OPO.

I m also facing the same problem, please let us know if anyone find a fix
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app

This problem can be fixed with the Boeffla-Kernel for OPO, but they need the technical documentaion of the "WDC9320" audio codec.

Does somebody know whether it for it already a solution has given?

Found this on the OP forums
Code:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/audio-clipping-in-loud-environments.108129/
:
"So ive tried heaps of things to try and fix this bug, one thing that may have worked is downloading this free app from the app store
Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grace.microphone&hl=en
and setting mic gain to 0. i have done this and the audio quality has increased 100% and is comparable with the iphone."

Most likely a ****ty mic on the oneplus, nothing to do with the software.
HTC one uses unlicensed mic from Nokia, which is far superior.

Bump

Does anyone know whether this bug is present in Oxygen OS or not?

Are you satisfied with the external speakers on the Desire HD?
Everyone please answer the poll so we can get an accurate idea of what Desire HD users think about the external speakers.
I've read so many post on how bad their speaker is, but I must say, either I have bad ears, or I'm lucky, and got one with a great speaker. No problem making it loud enough, and I can even make it too loud. All without any crackling, or distortion. I love it!

I guess it may be a 1st batch issue then. If your speakers really are good it would mean that all our speakers are faulty. If this is the case it's a warranty issue, so we could get it fixed.
Could you make a video of the sound, preferably comparing it to another phone?

Yep. I post it as soon as I can.
I can hardly wait!
I have a DHD from the first batch and the external speaker sound is not loud enough (even on max.) and the sound quality is poor.
Not happy.
I'm getting similar sound quality from an over 2 year old TouchPro.
Contacted HTC support and all they advised was to remove battery reboot and check volume was set to maximum.
Told them that had been done - no reply since...........

Already posted in the other thread, but considering I registered here just to complain about this speaker, I figured why not post again here
Speaker reminds me of an old Nokia that I sent back within the first week of receiving it. Except it's worse. Tinny and crackly. HTC can do far better. I'm still undecided as to whether I'll keep the phone as a result. I've ordered a bluetooth headset just to deal with this issue, but now I read that it's having problems with the BT headsets too!
can't you use DSPmanager and increase the volume of the loud speaker? We have full root after all.

I haven't tried that, but I have tried PowerAmp music player to boost music.
The result was as I expected: hardly any increase in volume, at the expense of crackly distorted bad sound quality - worse than it was at "normal" levels.
The strange thing is this:
Some apps sounds louder and some is hard to hear.
Have all volume sliders at max.
An MP3 used as alarm sounds higher then one played trough the mediaplayer.
Isnt this strange?
I have been missing calls at work so i bought a Samsung Bluetooth speaker BS300. It has just landed today. It is small and thin and also the sound quality is excellent and loud. I am waiting for the battery now to charge and i will leave a few comments later when i have made and received a few calls with it
I found the speaker was quite poor and sold the phone. Not just because of the speaker, was more that I just didn't feel it was a significant upgrade over the normal Desire.
Anyway, before I sold the DHD I compared the sound against my Desire, a Samsung i8910 and a Nokia N95. Even the old Nokia sounded better than both HTC phones and the Samsung just blew everything away.
I understand there's a lot of sound technology in the phone, but it only works if using headphones. Speaker is just a token affair as far as I'm concerned.
Just to make sure,
I hope there are no complaints related with the quality of the sound with a good set of headphones like Sennheisser or something like that, right?

I don't have a good video camera, and nobody has one to lend me. I tried several phones that have video, but they all come out bad. I'm working on it. If I can't find one this week, I'm just going to buy one. I can always use it for other stuff. Don't worry I didn't forget about it.

Shame, the rest of the phone is great

Thanks for taking the effort, as this could be a major development.
If your speaker really is very good, we can show this to HTC, and they will have to say that this is a warranty issue.
Personally I do really hope it is, because like london_euphoria said: the rest of the phone is great, it's only the external speaker that is a drawback.

Agree. That's why I want to make sure it's a recording of the true quality, not a choppy cell phone recording. Bare with me. I should have it up this week.

Bad recording mic,you cant record music concerts very well

:crying::crying:
The mic quality is very bad if you want to record a nice music concert the music become very distorded..
I used to have the htc one (and the htc m8)with that device i could record a concert without distortion..
I think i am returning this device also:crying:

What a shame! you are totally corrrect, my Z2 is exactly the same, I took some amazingly clear video in a club the other night, the camera captured the scene in low light so well shockingly good video BUT when I listened the next day the sound is totally distorted ruining the videos!
I downloaded a Sound meter app on my Z2 and the wifes Galaxy S5, side by side they both give completely different DB reading, The sony is WAY too high! if you make a sound the sound meter jumps right up, where are the Galazy S5 is more stable. Unfortunately i cant find any setting in the phone to change the microphone sensitivity. so the problem is a serious problem that we are stuck with! SUCKS!!
SONY really need to fix this with an update!
Agree but look at this video

Yes you are right this add on microphone is a good option for planned recordings! But what if you are just out and about with just your phone, and want to video something, live singing, a party, disco. The sony Z2 can take awesome video but if its a loud environment or with a lot of BASS the sound will come through on the video completely distorted and impossible to listen. Sony need to do an update ASAP.
Here is a sample of the distorted audio. (shame, the video quality came out really nice the DJ was Plastic Funk live in Pattaya Thailand)
*** WTF, I cant post the youtube video showing the distorted audio because I am new to this forum. sucks! if you want to see it just search youtube for "Distorted Sony experia z2 microphone"

Doomkernel allows to lower mic gain, that is why your recordings are ... over saturated.

Any help that you can give, how I use DOOMKERNEL ??

It isn't for the faint of heart and requires the bootloader to be unlocked, if you search the forum you will find the doomkernel thread. You might want to ask people in that thread for more help or suggestions.

Background noise when recording video in silence

Hello boys,
Is all this background noise normal when recording video in complete silence???
https://youtu.be/T3qTX0aTv3o
I didn't notice until today, but I had not tried it before either. Normal recording with voice or music in the background is perfectly ok.
Thank you.

I didn't have a nexus 4, but nexus 5 had this sort of problem too. But I can't remember it as bad as the video I posted. If it's software stuff or design flaw it can't be helped.. but I'd like to make sure that it's not just my device, otherwise I will better RMA it.

The intermittent buzzing(I think it actually sounds like a cat purring) is the auto-focus on the camera. It appears that every Nexus 6p has this issue in some capacity.
Here is a video I recorded demonstrating what I'm talking about.
When I noticed the issue an hour or so ago I started researching it myself and saw some videos others have recorded and posted of the problem and honestly it doesn't seem like it is as bad as it seems. The noise itself is very hard to hear if there is any background noise. I recorded my video in silence, so the "purring" is very audible, however in your video and others I could barely hear it, and that was while also listening for it.
In fact in my video I can't hear that clicking noise. I will try sometime doing the same test you did.
The reason of the thread was the general noise that you can hear at the background all the time. I ordered a replacement but it had the same noise, so I assume it's completely normal and I returned it since the screen of my first phone was, I think, better.

OnePlus 5 camera, poor audio quality

I noticed that the audio quality in video recording is really poor. If I use the recorder app (In OxygenOS) the audio quality (when format set to wav) is really good!
I'm wondering if this is a bug in OOS, or intented to keep the filesizes down?
Who else noticed it?
I also made a thread on the OP forums, but people aren't too active there.
