LED too bright after screen change - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I changed my screen yesterday and it appears that the LED hole of the new one is not properly covered leaking too much light. So the entire hole glows along with the LED which is quite big, shiny and ugly.
I know that I can put something on it but I am not sure what exactly so suggestions are welcome.
Thank you all.

Lucky you, I want my light to be brighter, I think you have to live with it if you want the light on. I take it the screen and frame was one piece so you couldn't access the light anyway from the front to blur it

what you could do is take the assembly off, put a piece of tissue paper where the led is then put it back on, the tissue should muffle the light

Tissue paper you say. I will try that. I also was thinking of a thicker nylon like the kind you use to wrap rooms when painting or other construction work is done.
And yes, I got the whole frame assembly. I noticed that the sticker on the LED hole was not entirely white like on my previous glass, but it had some black shape like part of a big star

id say maybe u 2 tissue pares or fold a larger on in half, i think the nylon might completely block out the light

If you still have your original screen you can move the LED filter across.

I tried to move another one from a broken screen, but it was glued to the glass.

Light bleed on the edge part of the screen?

I'm I the only one noticing there are some pretty obvious light bleed going on if looking at the phone from the side? I never had any edge device before, so I'm not sure if this is normal. I don't really notice it at all if I'm looking at the phone straight, only when I'm actually looking at its edge. The effect is even from the left and right side.
Sorry for the crappy pic, I already returned my JOD note 5 to Tmobile, so I had to dig out a real old LG optimus F6 with its crappy 5MP camera... reminds me of how much smart phone camera have came along..
This is my first EDGE as well, but it looks normal to me. The edges the light has to be pointed upwards and with the glass being curved it cause more light to refract and build up so it looks "worse" than it really is(At least that's how I saw it).
I'd guess that due to the curved glass, the glass would refract the light causing it to look like this.
Afaik an amoled display can't actually leak light since every pixel is actually the light rather than an LCD where it uses a backlight. Instead as others have pointed out, you are just seeing the refraction caused by the curved glass and the way it bends the light being emitted.
Ahh physics gotta love it ?
This is not a bleed
Because the panle is on the edge and you looking at it from the side so tge light will be direct .

great point. I forgot all about that.
Yup that's normal. All previous edges had the same.

I notices this the other day especially on bright white screens the edges between glass/aluminum frame bleed light thru. I have this on my wifes S7 edge as well as mine.

OK cheers good to know it's not just mine. Seems a bit odd how water resistant phone would allow light out in such a way if light can get out surley water can get in.

If I had to guess, this is most likely not light leaking through the crack, but rather just some light thats being manipulated by the curved glass and reflected onto the metal where it meets the glass. At least that's my best theory.

I wish that was the case my friend. I first thought that so I taped the sides of the screen to block the light and still comes beaming through both sides.
If light is bleeding thru the cracks does that necessarily mean its not water proof anymore? If so we have a big problem as both mine and my wifes phone has this issue. Although we aren't dipping our phones in water or going to test it out, its nice to know that they are indeed waterproof.
Take a photo. I'd like to see it.

Well what im referring to wshouldnt be affected by tape. I mean the light essentially uses the glass like fiber optic and shines out onto the top of the metal.
Taping it off wouldn't effect this since the light we would be seeing is essentially in the glass still.

Just go to a white background on max brightness and hold the phone flat and look at where the glass meets the metal at like a 45 degree angle from above. You should be able to see it sort of lit up.

That's light passing through the glass and not any type of gap. Taping off areas isn't going to affect the light reflecting through the glass.

phone case stain

I brought a TPU phone case about 5 days ago and today I noticed black staining along the edges from my pocket. I tried hot water and shampoo (no dish washing liquid so I couldn't). I've tried ethanol but the marks remain. Any ideas, this case looked awesome until today, that didn't last long
Are you describing the s-line flexible 'gel' type case? If you are then unfortunately this is common. I've owned a number of this type of case and the same thing has happened with every one. I used to get the 'clear' see through variants of this type of case, but because of this problem, I now just buy dark opaque or black versions.
Like you, I've tried pretty much everything to remove these marks....up to and including immersing the case in a mixture of boiling water and bleach....and nothing has worked.
It is tpu case with the s style. It looks awesome in red. Do you recommend any red cases that don't suffer from this. Or a black TPU case? But red is preferred as I have a red icon pack and wallpaper that suited it.
Sorry fella...This is going to happen to all these cases because of the materials used....
The only colours you won't see it on are the dark colours.

Any cases that use a different material that also cover the front rim. (Silver peeled off, wanna hide it)

I can only go by the cases I've used...
Leather look wallet case
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111736492032
Heavy duty case
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151716152033
The top one is what I currently have.
It has one of those tpu cases bonded to the wallet....In this case the tpu part is black.
The one in the second link has a tpu inner case with a hard plastic outer case/integrated stand.
I tried the wallet type with a hard plastic inner case, but the case always fractures and splits.

I dont know but have you tried using a sharpie or any other red permanent varients?

No... Won't a sharpie leave more marks
I think he's suggesting you use the Sharpie to 'paint over' the stain.....A bit like painting a layer of nail polish on top of the stain. Not sure if that's going to work though.
To do that sort of thing, the ink would have to be opaque....fairly sure the ink in permanent markers is not.

Yeah my theory was covering the whole thing with paint or something, at least it will be consistant :silly: are you any good with a spray can? You could try on a dark tone like black.. let it dry and then spray on your red quite thick, wrap with plastic wrap in a messy way, then remove before it drys. Adds a nice affect to custom car sprays i know that. Food for thought bro.. i think it would look sick! Scotch bite maybe?
Lol...A bit like 'rag rolling' a wall.
I think its too much work xD. I'll just buy a black case. Thanks for the help guys.

Have to send mine back, manufacturing defect

To the left of the fingerprint reader slightly up, there's what looks like scratched missing black coating or whatever it is behind the glass where the strip of black panel is, hard to see it in the photo, in good light it looks crap, already initiated return.

Phone screen repair glue recommendation

Hey guys,
I've noticed the black (plastic/glue?) part at the edge of my screen has fallen off right at the left upper corner. Now I can see light sipping between the screen and the edge of the phone. Do you guys have any recommendation for repair glue so I could seal that part to prevent any water damage? Thanks.

No it's not the speaker strip even that part is also coming off :silly:
Do it fast, I got the same Problem and just after I noticed I got a whole lot of dust between my camera and glas.
Luckily Essential shipped me a new phone...

Yeah, that little strip was a bad design.
The LOCA glue normally used for mobile phone screen probably a bit too thin & runny to fill an open hole, so I'd be looking at a ceramic chip repair kit (if you can get suitable colour) or maybe a clear epoxy (though not sure how well it'll stick to ceramic). I don't think anyone has a proven solution so far.

From my experience replacing the display on this phone, the thin frame/bezel where the glass fits is actually not ceramic. It feels like some sort of a hard plastic that you can actually scrape and shave a thin layer off with a sharp blade (i discovered that while cleaning out the old adhesive). I tried scraping a semi-exposed edge of the back ceramic plate with a blade - very different feeling. My phone also has a tiny damage to this front bezel in the corner which is a "nick", unlike a chip or a crack you would expect in a ceramic material.
so do you guys have any advice for the type of glue that could be used to fill up the gap?
I have replaced the screen on my phone and used E6000 glue, it is clear and does not run like super glue.
Edit: they also make it in black.

Light emitting through, minor hardware defect

I think I found a hardware defect on my phone.
It doesn't affect the functions of the phone whatsoever, but it's a defect nonetheless.
There is a tiny tiny hole underneath the gorilla glass on the black bezel between the screen protector and the case. See attached picture, where the red circle is. This hole is super tiny, I can't see it under well lit room or outside or even in the attached pic. I'm sharing this for the location of the hole so maybe others can check on their phone if there is such hole. If I check in a complete dark room, I can see it. And it's visible only from certain angle, as the pic was taken. Screen has to be on, in order to see the light being emitted from this tiny hole, I'm talking about less than a normal needle point. It has no effect on how the phone work, but I found this last night. At first I thought it's a speck of dust, but it wouldn't go away whatever I did. Then I realized it's a light coming through under the gorilla glass. I'm not going to return the phone for this, but still it's a defect.
Check your phone and let me know if anybody has same problem ?
Mine does not have this problem.
