Hello everyone, hope you're enjoying the summer. I've been having problems with my wifi hotspot I can't visit any websites but I got access to Skype and Steam, that's the problem I can talk to people on Skype but I can't visit any websites, I tried a lot of different websites, nothing worked. If you have any help at all, then reply, I'm willing to do a lot of stuff to fix it. Hope someone can share their knowledge and help me out, it's okay if you can't answer me, I don't blame you.
Enjoy your summer, or winter, depending on where you live.

Bump, still haven't figured out the problem. I tried some stuff but it still doesn't work
I have a similar problem. HTC Desire with a custom Android 4.something. There is internet connection, but when hotspot is activated, a computer can connect to it, but can't connect to the internet. Says "no internet access". The computer is a Mac, but I don't think that matters. So, Desire is connected to the internet, computer is connected to Desire, but computer is not connected to the internet. The network is Ortega D. The problem is that it's my brother's problem and he's in Germany, and has very limited accessibility with that phone.
If you have some tricks I can try, I'd be thankful.

I offer to help. But you seem to want instant gratification, with no effort on your part. That's not going to work. Nor is doing everything everyone says. How many times will you post the same thread? To connect you need to do a series of steps. Little baby steps. Their can be a number of reasons why you can't connect, part of connecting is finding out what is wrong.
Not wanting to do it that way, I suggest you find someone local you can pay to stop by your home and set it up for you.
hello,
i would like to know if it is possibile to share my pc connection with my htc legend:
the problem is that in my room my laptop get the wifi but not the phone because it has a really really bad antenna, and i dont want to use 3g data, is it possibile to share my connection from pc to phone? it should act like a wifi repeater or something no idea thank you
A while ago I was looking for the same thing.
Although technically an easy task, it's not yet possible with Stock Android. There is a Google Code forum page confirming that Android as of yet can't see and connect to Ad-Hoc networks. There are some wifi-tools in the market that can at least show them, but none can't make your device connect yet.
Some ROMs seem to have added this option, if you plan to root and flash. I just added a cheapo router, problem solved. ;-)

Hello all,
after reading and searching a few hours about this, I have to make a new thread because I cant manage to make it work.
I have got an cable internet connection at work, and and samsung galaxy. I want to use my computers internet connection to get my galaxy online. There seems to be something like an ad hoc internet connection which can be shared over wifi using connectify. The problem although is that this can only be used with windows 7 and unfortunately my work pc is still XP...
My previous phone was an HTC HD2, and now I was satisfied with the galaxy, but when the HD2 was connected with active sync, it automatically used the pc's internet connection.... Huge fail in my opinion!
any suggestions here to make it work?
thank you!
Maybe this?
Everybody would like to thank you for opening a new topic on an overdisscused subject!
Sent from my fingers!
ad hoc on a win7 won't work out of the box with your i9000(undiscoverable network), i give winxp a better change. =/
I also tried to use an ad-hoc network with Windows 7 - no luck, the Galaxy doesn't detect the network for some reason. I am able to detect and connect to the ad-hoc network with an iPad however... odd.
Hi
Nice thread.
Actually I've been using a WinMob since last many years and now shifted to SGS.
WM 2002-WM6.5 all when connected via usb to PC use PC internet connections. No tethering or reverse of the same is required. This is painfully missing in android phones, I've checked with HTC desire also.
SMS management also in WM was much better and advances, You can have drafts, sent, outbox separate storages and folders. I had over 300 msgs in drafts, here no such option.
ad-hoc
I guys, i think i can help with some info.
In some foruns the solution is to unroot the deviceand install some apps.
I would prefer to do it without unrooting.
Hi,
I'm not sure whether it's good thing to open one thread related to two problems but I haven't got better idea how to put it.
Main problem:
Since I have acquired my GT540 I'm still searching for the solution for reverse tethering. My operator doesn't have decent data plan, quite often I'm out of any wifi range and currently I'm completely out of wireless.
So I'm left with workable USB connection and Bluetooth. Which leads us to...
Secondary problem:
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835912 and solution proposed there is quite feasible to me as usbnet still seems to be song of the future and I'm using Linux on the host PC anyway. But when I tried to implement it, I learned that PPP is not enabled in my kernel, which understandably derailed my plan. I use CM7 by Mur4ik.
The question then is, can I somehow painlessly enable this PPP support?
Or could someone politely nudge Mur4ik to enable it in the next release of SwiftDroid? (I don't have sufficient rights to post in devel forum myself)
Or, is there another, working way of getting net access for my phone?
Cheers.
So, you don't have Wireless Adapter or WiFi to put on your desktop and share the internet?
I have tested to share the PC internet connection via USB to GT540 and i never did it...
I bought a WiFi AP and now I use the GT540 with Wireless on my entire house, i think its better than USB.
As I mentioned, sometimes I have wireless access but recently I'm stuck without. Besides, in this most recent cm7-m6 adhoc networking doesn't work either.
Yes, I think too that having wifi coverage in home is nice but the problem I stated is what to do WHEN you don't have it.
Hi,
Firstly I should introduce myself, my name is George, live in Essex and have a passion for cars and gadgets.
I've been roaming this forum since I had my first android device a HTC Hero and try and use search as much as possible rather than repeating other peoples problems but I am properly stuck with this one..
To be short,
Device Details:
Device: Google Nexus 4
Android Version: 4.2.1
Carrier: Orange (EE)
Problem: Portable hotspot is active and I can connect to it from various devices but there is no data pass through.
Solutions tried:
Changing the APN type to every possible solution mentioned (i.e consumer broadband etc)
Using both open and sercured sercurity on the hotspot
Connecting using everything from another phone to my Google Chromebook and all imbetween
I've read there has been mention of Orange blocking this but most people find this isn't the case and its usually fixed via the APN.
The only thing that looks slightly odd is that an ipconfig on my windows machine(s) shows 192.168.xxx.xxx yet the IP address displayed by my Nexus is 10.166.xxx.xxx and if I ping my Nexus's IP from my machine i do get a response.... (all when connected to the hotspot)
Even with a ip release/renew still picks up 192.168
So that is my issue....
I can't think of anything else bar a factory reset which i'd rather not do just yet so thought i'd ask here first I geuinely searched everywhere!
any help would be much appreciated....
Don't mean to bump this but if anyone could offer any advice it would be much appreciated!
Even if someone could just confirm they are using the Orange/EE network with the Nexus 4 and has it working?
Thank you!!
i'm also on orange (EE).
bummer. mine's not working either. i thought it was but i think i was connecting to my router's wifi instead.
i also tried bluetooth tethering but couldn't get that working at all.
A sort of "me too", here: I'm also an Orange (EE) customer who can't get WiFi (or Bluetooth) tethering to work. However, USB tethering works fine - just appears to install a RNDIS virtual Ethernet adapter, and then just works.
Using Wireshark, I noticed that DNS lookups (which use the phone as a DNS server/ proxy) actually work. However, SYNs for connections to hosts on the Internet go unanswered. I'm beginning to suspect that the phone just isn't forwarding packets from the WiFi interface to the cell interface (but no idea why)
As a sort of aside: I'm pretty sure this used to work on my Motorola Atrix via Orange.
Having the exact same problem, running CM10.1.
Have messed around with APN settings but does nothing, laptop connects phone and even shows as having internet access but trying to visit any site just times out.
I have tried the exact same hotspot configuration with a giffgaff (O2) sim card and it works fine, so it must be Orange!
