I purchased 2 new Galaxy S's for my Girlfriend and I on Optus in Australia,
Both of us are having issues with it dropping out during calls. It seems that you can't hear people or they can't hear you, 1 of the 2.
The signal is Great, The Phones are Absolutely Awesome. I don't want to give them up.
Has anyone experienced or heard of this problem, It seems that after 30 -60 seconds it just stops, but not consistently, I have been making calls all day and it only did it once, Yesterday I made 1 call that actually worked.
I've upgraded my Firmware to JG3 in case that was it, They came with DTJF3, I'd like to reset hers and dump the rom, However i'm not quite sure on how to do that.
Instructions?, I'll up it after a factory reset and dump.
Optus is picking them up monday as we only had them 3 days before we couldn't take it anymore.
Regards,
aRTie11
Yeah I've experienced something similar, in the middle of a converstation my call got dropped and returned to home screen by itself for no apparent reason. experienced this twice in one day. Not happened since but mind you I've not made many calls since.
well I guess I just got a bad batch.guess I'll wait for the replacements

My two cents, this has never happened to me...
Wow, I'll be getting mine from Optus on Monday. Will see how it goes. Maybe it was just the Optus network being crap?
Try not to touch the bottom part of the phone especially in bad reception areas. Don't completely trust the number of bars.

They're talking about the SGS, not the Iphone 4
Definitely wasn't reception,i live in small town. 5 towers and I know all the blackspots are.
Plus call didn't drop, just couldn't hear them. Or mostly they couldn't hear you.

I've been with optus die years and they do have blackspots, you can hear but not speak is probably a blackspot. I have ben using the galaxy s and what used to be a black spot on my iphone is now perfect reception on my beautiful samsung. Next time it happens try moving around.

You still think the problem is unique to just iPhone 4? I don't. But you may need to see some videos to be convinced. I'll post some videos on ore phones later. Watch this space.
I had a very similar issue with my SGS, but it seemed to resolve itself after a factory reset.
In my case, calls were dropping out at about the 7minute mark, and I had this happen twice in a row while I was on hold waiting for an Optus representative to activate a new account..... I just thought it was Optus cutting me off, but the next day when it happened again while talking with my boss - I realised it was the phone.
At the same time, I also found that Handcent messaging software also gave me issues (not receiving SMS's) as well, and it might have caused the same problem before doing the factory reset.
I've since moved to the european firmware JG5, and even with handcent, I've yet to have an issue with dropped calls or not receiving SMS's - so IMO its firmware related..
JF3 firmware has a lot of bugs too (which is pretty bad), so hopefully Optus releases new firmware based on either JF7 or JG5 soon!

I promised to follow up on the fact that death grip affects all smartphones, so here are some of what I wish to say:
a) If you want proof that death grip does affects SGS's signal in equally dramatic way compared to iPhone4, do this:
- Go to your settings/About phone/Status and look at the value of dBm under Signal strength. In my house, if I leave my SGS on the table, it would read -81dBm. Yours will have different value.
- Then pick up the phone, and death grip the bottom back of the phone, and see for yourself that it drops within seconds. In my case, it drops by 30dBm, to -111dBm. Edit: in fact no death grip is necessary to reduce SGS's signal strength by 30 dBm. You hove to merely place it on your flat palm without even the need to grip it in order to reduce the signal by that much!!! I have a video for this if anyone wants me to upload it to YouTube.
b) A change of 30dBm may or may not be an issue, depending on what you're left with. So, call may or may not drop as a result. I could only drop call in bad reception area as I have mentioned a few times.
How does this compared to iPhone 4's drop magnitute? I don't have an iPhone 4, so I will go by a report written by Anandtech to get this figure:
The difference between placing it on a table and holding it tightly covering the fatal gap area is summarised by this sentence:
"For example, at another test location, signal without holding the phone is -89 dBm, which is still displayed as 5 bars. Cup the phone, and you'll fall all the way to -113 dBm". The change in signal strength in iPhone by death grip or simply bridging the two piece of metal is 24dBm - less than in SGS. The full story of iPhone 4 Antenna test is:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3794/the-iphone-4-review/2
c) If you believe the media, you would have gotten an impression that as soon as your hand touches the gap between the two antenna in iPhone, signal will be cut off. However, reality is that many people had found it IMPOSSIBLE to see the change in bar where reception strength is strong like what is provided by Telstra Australia (if you believe in bar, that is. I don't, BTW). But see the following video to see that this user could touch iPhone4 in anyway he wants and not affect the bar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9mkV3nPuXk
If the reception is already bad, like with Vodafone and Optus' case in Australia, you'll see the effect, as the following videos shows:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjFMhhM2_tg&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJVHLOF4kLU&feature=related
To see the effects on some other phones, here are some of them:
Nokia E71
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amPG52DVQuk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi1gHDa7-X0&feature=related

Samsung Galaxy S
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vefQ4I2wOXs
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?deskto...d&feature=player_embedded&v=LROTHrTR92k&gl=AU
There are must too many such videos for me to list. You'll also find equally number of cases where people are not affected, dending on how they hold it.
What to make of all these? For me, I'm not really bothered. I'll simply use a case for my Samsung Galaxy S.
As a followup. I received my new phone today. Happened again on first call.
Decided to turn off 3g. Next call. NO PROBLEMS. It s annoying as I'll have to turn it on and off as I need.
Going to ring optus tomorrow and quote the problem again. We only just got 3g in town, so i reckon that'd be it

My data cap is low so I turn 3G on off, I agree on it being a pain. To make it slightly less painful I recommend 2 things. A shortcut, in case you don't know:
touch and hold on a blank spot on your homescreen, like adding a widget or app
select "shortcuts"
select "settings"
select "3G data call settings"
this way you wont have to enter/exit settings, it makes it much less painful, I used to try to keep my settings in my recently used so I could jump back to it easily.
1 other thing that might help, app "quick desk", not as big a help as the shortcut, but it can be combined with the short cut so you won't have to leave apps if you happen to have left the 3G on/off in the wrong position for your desired actions.
Hope that helps

Hi all,
Im a new member of the forum (duh!) and I was brought here after searching a couple of things in google and it seems to hit this place more often than any other site, I've been using the Galaxy S2 for the last 21 days and here are my thoughts:
The design of the over all hardware is just premium, phone feels extremely great on the hand and the weight is just amazing! It does not feel plasticy at all as what some review sites say, for what its worth the feel is extremely premium. Tactile response on the buttons and home key is also great!
The screen is great but I see some flaws/technology limitation here and there or maybe my display is just faulty? Why is the left side slightly a bit darker than the right side of the display, its pretty noticeable even upto 50% brightness.
Samsung has advertized this as a 0.1ms response time screen but I do see some ghosting in some apps and also when dropping the notification tray, a friend of mine who has the original Galaxy S says theres no ghosting on the SuperAMOLED
Black levels are INSANELY MINDBLOWINGLY AMAZING!! I cant stress this enough! Being a fan of high end plasma displays, the SAMOLED+ just blows everything out of the water! I have to admit that if your using the phone just before bed time ( when all the lights are off ) you can definitely tell that the screen is powered on when displaying a black image but its extremely great! The lightning is so faint and perfectly uniform!
Performance ( speed ) is really great, coming from a lower end andriod phone the Galaxy S2's performance is just through the roof! Aside from the innate micro-jitters from andriod everything else is on steriods!
I really like how the Samsung UI is made especially the swipe to SMS/Call, its pretty simple yet very effective! Messaging and contacts are pretty straight forward!
GPS accuracy is spot on, I can easily get 10M locked accuracy on ~9 sats and locking speed is like less than 10 seconds!
Battery life is a bit lacking for my usage but hey I cant expect a device with a dualcore and 4.3" screen to last me 24hrs with all the things Im doing, I also have 3G data enabled with some facebook and twitter widgets and some personal email stuff going around, I also use the music player alot, depending on the usage I get about 16-19hrs.
Wifi strength is just average or maybe its just my weak router at home but on the same spot my laptop can get a very solid signal where the S2 loses it from time to time.
Speaker output is very acceptable, nothing really to write about.
Call quality is "just average" as everyone I've called says that my voice is either pretty low or theres a very slight echo.
Over all the phone is good ( not great ) it kinda meets the expectation, Im a little disappointed on the display since I really believed on all the marketing things they have made for both SuperAMOLED and SuperAMOLED+ , I payed about $680 for this phone and I still have a few days left to either return this and get an exchange or a full refund.
Sorry for the long wall of text and my poor english (not my first language)
Share your thoughts on the device and your opinion on what Ive posted, Thanks!!

Try one the "praised" Custom-Roms =) I got much more satified since using them, especially battery life improved (still not state-of-the-art, but acceptable).
But I'm also searching for a solution for the poor call-quality. Every second call i have I'm told that people can understand me hardly. Hardware-design failure?

bought the biggest one, you will need an extra back cover but it comes with
the battery 28 euros for a 2750 mAh battery which at least for me by now
works perfect is a good price i believe, the batteries seem very stable and they also have the message below stated on the site
This Samsung Galaxy S2 battery (2600 mAh, Black) contains advanced technical components and has been tested according to strict CE safety standards. The Samsung Galaxy S2 battery contains a chip that prevents overcharging and short circuiting. Next to this the Samsung Galaxy S2 battery is made from high quality cells that do not suffer from a so-called 'memory effect'.
i have been on this battery now with wifi or 3g connect at all times for 30 hours
and i have 40 % power left. fairly heavy use every morning, heavy use in the evening work 9am to 6 pm mostly screen off but checking FB Twitter newspaers etc pretty frequently.

Firstly, nice review Flightless.
Secondly, Caviera, could you please show any reference to your statement. I'm curious to know. AFAIK not so many review site truly measure audio output/quality, except GSMArena but they haven't yet review SGS2. Although in their most recent reviews, for example for the SGS+ they put SGS2 statistics in the same page for us to compare, as you can see below:

I am not very techie, but I can say the numbers do not differ much there. Or does it?
Mine totally disaster with the Galaxy S2 for the last 21 days.
Replaced 4 units within one month due to pink spot (wasn't know that's issue), easily overheating, power button hardware failure, very low mic volume during calls, and camera mechanism noise problems.
Also waited for another one month to get it repaired/exchanged to my 5th unit. Long run disaster, bad experience to own SGS2 in the first place.
Now start to use SGS2, found it really a nice on hand, useful and powerful smartphone.
My experience is that this phone is amazing... however the GPS is not so amazing. Nothing past 10m... at least navigation works with all the tweaks I've applied.

WTF, 1 month to get a new unit ?
thought that would go faster as this is a manufacturers mistake i would assume?
good thing you didnt flash any custom roms or rooted the phone before sending it back then.. unless you did and already have a jig
from first glance the unit worked flawless for me, bought it in the NL, no issues at all except for the battery drain in the original firmware and the 2.3.3 OS
I flashed after a week over to Litening v5 with ninpheta 2.0.5 kernel
mostly U/c to 1000 or 800 mhz with a little bit of under voltage aswell.
but sometimes for show off or heavy games i boost it to 1400 or 1600 MHZ also .
with a little U/V and phone is fast and stable as a Rolls Royce Phantom <)
Phone gets a bit heated when it is under heavy use or when charging,
but at least my personal belief is that the reason for this happening
is simply because there is not a metall etc bezel around this phone
like it would for example be on an iphone, surely all that metal must spread out the heat to even it out??
Phone was also heating up under stock rom with heavy use so or charging so
i believe that it is not really heating up to much
but because of the bezel thing mentioned above it feels a lot hotter.
what do you guys think?

Yes, over one month at retailer shop where i bought my SGS2 in UK. I have no ideal why they need more than a month to diagnose the phone (checked online with diagnose status). Btw, problem was found on original unrooted preloaded fw and did root the phone to solve the problem, unfortunately it can't be solved. And it's not jigged. That time was suspect hardware problems then just send it for service without thinking too much. It's still under warranty anyway. As a result they replaced another new unit for me.
Cross-fingers. Hope no more problems on my current SGS2.
I also had to wait for 30days on my 3rd replacement but I was able to use the phone till then, now processing another replacement since it has yet another defect.. waiting time is another 30days for approval.
As for wifi, even with barely any signal, i've always hit the max speed of my bandwidth during the speed test

I also realize that my SGS2 WiFi signal always at very low bar (one bar), where placed beside my laptop (full bar). And distance to WiFi router only about 5 meter away. Is it something wrong with the SGS2 WiFi module or just another software problem again. Don't tell it's hardware problem again.

Sounds like something is wrong with the actual transmitter, wireless card or what to call it, my wifi on a real ****ty sweex router has good strength and I can even be in the basement of our complex and still have decent strength, I live on the third floor so the basement is pretty far away, in the house everywhere I have full strength,.

No more problem on my 5th unit. Hope for the best!
Those who already have the device, post your impression / comments.
I own the TL10 version. It's been a few days in my hands. I can confirm that LTE works in Singapore, Malaysia (just came back from there) and Japan (I remember reading somewhere that it's compatible with most European and Asian networks).
I decided to get the phone because I'm too worried about Note 4 battery life, Xperia Z3 being too small, unable to get the latest Pantech phones (A910 & A920) due to their recent bankruptcy which scared off my usual supplier and also the unavailability of Vibe Z2 Pro at the time. Those were the other phones I had considered before settling with Mate 7.
I'm pleased by its slim bezels and thinness. Impressed by its battery life, currently low battery after I pulled off the charger almost 48 hours ago, used it to call and text people, find my way to the airport using Google navigation, listened to music in flight, layover in Hong Kong, another flight to Tokyo, 2 hours transiting in Tokyo subways, then used it for browsing while I rested this whole day. Simply superb.
Issues I've noticed so far:
Unable to change launcher (can't remove Huawei launcher from default)
Navigation bar sometimes freezes, doesn't response, had to hide it and showed it again to make it work (hopefully just firmware issue).
Haven't found easy way to root it.

Thanks for giving your impressions of the device. Have you found it to be any more laggy/buggy than other Android devices that you've owned? Also, does your device say TD-LTE on the box or FDD-LTE?
On the box it only says "TD-LTE". Mine is the vmall.com 32GB gold version. Everything has been snappy. Only lag I notice is when pressing multi-task button, there's noticeable delay until the list of recent apps show up. Also, I notice navigation bar, toggles, settings, icons, pretty much all the UI aspects look like Android L, perhaps Huawei is already working on L and basing the Emotion 3.0 from L?

Exactly the same for me except I didn't know that Pantech brand.
Battery life is impressive. It's due to a good battery management. For example, Mate 7 notices you when Google Play services are running in background so you can stop the processes. There's also a "stamina" mode wich only enables phone calls and SMS. I got 2% drain in one whole day!
Yesterday my mate 7 became hot, I had to restart it because it was not responding anymore. It's my first problem with mate 7 since I have it. Anyway, I think that kind of problems are normal in every Android device. I'm also looking forward a root solution. Before, all my contacts were synchronized with Google but sadly it's not possible to keep it that way with EMUI. I had to import it (wich was very easy) to EMUI contacts manager.
I have some problems with special characters in french (like é, à, etc..) They are replaced with a chinese character.

We are not hiding anything from the xda community though.
We can offer you the code to root, however, during the last step and the most important step of recovery, it requires a Chinese software to proceed, of which it will be difficult for one to perform who cannot read Chinese.

I unlocked successfully the bootloader. If you can share any link that can help me to root it, I'll be eternally grateful to you

We are glad to do this for you.
In two days, we will post a detailed instruction for rooting the AM7, for xda community members.
Pulled the trigger.
So I bought this phone, about a week ago, unicom compatible version mt7-tl10. I had actually gone with the mx4 because i wanted a better camera while in china, was currently using my note 3. I returned the mx4 after a day..... it was more buggy than 1.5 used to be haha. Random gcm pushes not happening, app crashing etc, freezes, and battery drains. They will probably sort it out, but I wasn't willing to wait weeks as i needed a functional daily driver so I picked it up at beijing local department store, for 3650rmb, not a bad price compared to what amazon etc are charging.
So my first impressions of the phone, which came with the flip leather case, is that like the cliche marketing pics of the guy in the sand, it is a classy looking phone. The thin bezels are amazing, and it just feels a lot nicer in the hand than my note 3. Now On my note 3 I have a spigen case, so the flip is definitely a thinner device. Caseless it fits in my hands very well, I have large hands but by no means ogre fists and everything is very reachable. I have been partial to large devices, owning every iteration of the note, as well as the ridiculous asus fonepad lol.
Watching reviews i was worried about the Nit* level in screen brightness, but the screen is very clear and crisp, pretty good colour reproduction, definitely not the saturated intensity of a samsung amoled screen, but very nice to watch netflix etc on. It is very responsive and has glove mode in the options so when the temperature drops a bit more I will give that feature a try.
Battery life is insane. Note 3 is no slouch, but this has had days of 7 to 8 hours of screen on time for me, with csip calls, 8 email accounts, 3 on push, wechat, whatsapp, telegram, instagram and a bunch of other daily apps i use... was at 20% in the evening.
Call quality has been decent although i have only used voip programs to make calls, over vpn. I will note that the wifi connectivity is much more stable than my note 3. I get better signal consistently on wifi, which is nice, as I am dependant on it for the most part for internet connectivity, data rates on a pay as go plan in beijing are murder. That said, 3g, 4g, lte all work great and i get very good signal and asu rates on this phone. I know the radio's are optimized vs my NA note 3 but its nice to have consistent signal all over the city with such spotty coverage.
So from a hardware standpoint, this phone feels and works like a quality product, which is what I Think huawei was aiming for..
Now from a software standpoint.. emui is nice, but it's not quite there yet. Without root and xposed modules it's even more of an issue, as there are root fixes for lots of the problems I have experienced.
Starting with the positives, the overall experience has been fluid and smooth, I have not experienced any of the slowdowns mentioned, video playback is stutter free, memory speed seems up to par with decent load times . I do really like the huawei multi tasking implementation on this rom, as I tend to cut and paste and switch between browser and apps quite frequently. Some of the pro reviews complained about the battery consumption monitor... but I find it to be quite useful, allowing me to micro manage apps if I choose, you can always set it to ignore the app after the first warning. Now that said, you may run into issues with non default apps for things like email (i m currently trying out the boxer client). I was doing push tests as i had my note 3 to compare, on same wifi etc... and emails were not coming through... so what i found is, you have to go in and give third party apps from the google play store certain permissions, the ability to run after the screen is off, to startup when device starts up etc... its actually quite useful to have such easy controls for these things, but if you don't know about them... it created a giant headache for me trying to figure out why push wasn't coming through. I thought it was my install of google play services etc... not allowing GCM push's to arrive. nope, just battery and permission settings, once go through for one app, you can easily do it for all the apps you want. Battery life is amazing as a result, as things like yahoo weather and other apps i used to use, were just killing my battery... now on my note i have better battery stats, gsam, wakelock detector.. the whole enchilada in terms of utils for optimizing battery life because i have had problems, even resorted to watch dog combined with greenify, because the wakes that were hidden from all my utils. On my huawei, i dont have any of the tools, the permissions, battery drain detection seem to keep things in check, and google services etc isn;t draining either. I used to find on other non google play native roms, that play services would run amok with battery. So far so good.
The most annoying issue presently is the default app selection. On some apps it works bringing up selected apps that make sense, click a picture selection in whatsapp , brings up gallery as an option. Trying to set my profile pic in another app i use, brings up an array of random useless apps that do not really have anything to do with a picture selection. Now without root or Xposed you cannot change the default apps that come up.. so i m stuck with this bug. I tried a workaround by installing a bunch of file managers to see if they could randomly pop up in the list...only es fileexplorer did and not the right option for it of a standard file browse.
The other major thing i have experienced , and i think it just be me, or my device specifically is finger print accuracy.. now watching all the reviews it looked phenomenal... now maybe its because i have a case on, big fingers or something, but i can only get about 50% accuracy in unlocking my phone with it.. It might be a technique thing too, so I m putting the caveat there.
The other issue, which is one of the reasons I like android over IOS, is the app drawer. Again without root, i dont think I it comes up. Reading above someone has said that they could not get an app drawer to work..I have not tried to install nova as I want to wait until rooted to use it. I find it is easy to lose track of the apps you have with a whole mess of folders stashed away... I like very open pages, with a few widgets but it is hard to have that experience if you have a lot of apps. Now you can just shove all of them into a single folder but it takes 4 to 5 actions to get to the app you want, that is too much for me. I like 3 actions at most, with nova it was app drawer, scroll, click in, worst case. Now its swipe, search for folder, click folder, swipe, to correct folder page, if you have more than 6 apps in folder. Its not the end of the world, but being used to nova style, it shouldn't have to be this way either.
One thing about the notification bar that at first was annoying, until i had a aha moment where i realized it was much more clever than i thought. The notification pull down is actually subdivided into two hotzones. On the left is notifications when you pull down, and on the right is shortcuts to system things, like screen brightness, screenshot, data toggle etc. Now at first i thought i was just getting random selections, until i realized there are hotzones at the top for this.. Another aspect i like is the timeline esque notifications, that give you timestamps and a lot of access to actions like deleting emails, replying etc right from the notification bar as an option... saves a couple clicks so it s a nice touch.
Now another issue I have had is widget display... certain apps do not like to play nice with the grid and end up taking way to much room, and do not adjust properly. One app in particular is network signal info pro the 1x1 widgets take up double the space, and the larger ones block off the screen. On touchwiz i have no issues lining corner to corner with these widgets, so i know its emui in this case.
Overall I find this phone to be a good experience, as I mainly use email and webbrowsing for work, the mega screen on time, and large viewing space make this a pleasant experience. Everyone uses their device differently so I can't say if its a good fit for me... but vs my note three, one the few niggles get ironed out with updates It will remain my daily device for the forseeable future... and for the price vs the note4 or edge...(although the cool factor of the edge is hard to resist) the battery life and screen size are hard to pass up... granted note 4 has higher res..but that just kills battery life, and the ppi is good enough for my purposes, i dont really notice the difference unless i look really closely..but if you have a six inch phone, that is the beauty, you dont have to face hug it to see things.
As for other comparitives, i played around with all the other devices listed... the lenovo Z2 pro.. while having an amazing screen and battery as well, and a ridiculously good camera comparitively, the software experience just wasnt there yet, and having used a k900 before, i wasn't optimistic that lenovo's software team is there yet... by next year they will be a major player i m sure, but it will take 6 to 8 months before that new resource and developer allocation makes a dent in user experience. As i said the mx4 was one of the worst software experiences i have had, now, to be fair it was not and international version, so maybe that one plays nice with google services...but mine certainly didnt. Looked at xiaomi... the mi4 is just too small for me, and battery life is a bit suspect, although miui is polished and updated frequently, it feels like all my data is being downloaded to the central servers.. haha, huawei may not be much better, but from my network tests watching wifi traffic, there isn't to many suspicious calls home. ZTE again, software was a bit laggy, same with their luxury brand, nubia... the oneplus and find7 were here, but oppo s marketing strategy lost me.. and comparitively they just dont look as nice as the huawei does... Now its funny because in china huawei has a bad rep as a cheapo garbage phone, with iphone, samsung, sony and xiaomi taking the prestige roles.. but this device has got some looks and questions as to what it is.. and wow really, a huawei lol.
Hope this is useful in decision making..
cheers.

No problem, just wanted to get it all down so people know what they re in for. I am fortunate in that i have a pretty lax expenditure account in terms of tech upgrades, so if I make a bad choice on a phone, i only have a to put up with it for a few months. But most have to survive at least a year with their device, and I find on a stressful day its the little things, like an email app crashing, or keyboard not responding lol that make the difference between a good and bad day.
I will add that if you don't read pinyin (i dont) you may have to do some guess and test exploration with the themes etc.. the keyboard is their own version or licensed not sure which, of swype that comes with some very asian themes to choose from the store. The theme store is in pinyin for phone themes but its pretty straight forward to figure out, by seeing the pictures and applying them.
I cant stress how much i love the battery life, it might be an ocd issue for me haha, but i always worry about phone dying. I have the Xiaomi 10000mah battery and the anker 12000 mah battery, but i dont need to pocket them anymore... so far today 96% battery with 45 mins of screen time (all my morning emails) and an ZRTP voip call (encryption usually works battery harder) for 30mins... pretty happy about that.

I just hope we get good amount of development here. And yeah. Glad about the battery life.
Thanks gn0s1s for that exhaustive review!
As i myself cant still decide whether to get the am7 or lenovo vibe z2 pro, and since you mentioned lenovo vibe z2 pro as one you compared the am7 against, may i ask a question. Have you had an ample time to play with the z2 pro to say that the sw experience is lacking?
Thanks for the answer sir!
Bevor I got me a Ascend Mate 7 I had a LG G3. On my trip to China I wanted to buy my a new phone.
I watched for many different phones (Meizu mx4, Xiaomi Mi4, Oppo Find 7, Lenovo vibe z2 pro and the Mate 7).
Many of them I did not buy because they have no LTE working outside of Europe.... or the lack of quality (Meizu was baaaad).
At the end there was only the z2 pro and the Mate 7 in the ring.
I decided against the z2 pro because I would have not a bigger screen then in the LG G3.... and the Mate 7 look&feel was much better.
Hope that helped.
Very positive experience
Hi,
I am a very new owner of Mate 7 Gold MT7-TL10. Have received my device this morning from getmobilephone (xda forum member). Experience with getmobilephone was simply the best experience i have ever had when getting something online. Really recommended!
First impressions are very positive. Build quality is extraordinary. Screen is better than expected. Phone already has factory installed screen protection on it + nice protective case for the phone.
Before purchasing, was hesitating between Note4, lenovo z2 pro and mate7. I believe that Huawei build quality really beats samsung devices. Mate 7 looks and feels like a high quality product.
No problems with 3G or 4G connections in Belgium (and probably in the most rest of Europe).
Phone is fast and responsive. At the moment feels faster than Note3 or Samsung S5.
So far I cannot comment a lot more about other features, as i would need to use this phone for few days first.
Thanks again for getmobilephone and XDA community for this opportunity.
Hello zilviukas,
I'm also from Belgium and i wish to buy the Mate 7. I prefer the Black One with 3 Go of Ram but no info about this configuration !
The Gold is too much 'bling bling' for me Do you know if the Black with 3 Go of ram come one day ?
Have you photos of your phone and the case inside ? How many time for full charge when the battery is low like 10% ? How many time for receipt your phone in Belgium ?
Have fun with your wonderfull phone !!!
P.S. : Now i use the Note 3 with 3 Go of ram but i'm afraid that mate 7 have not the same power than the Note 3 ( sorry for my english). And how is the lisibility outside and under the sun because the Super Amoled from Samsung is wonderfull !
Hi [email protected],
Regarding the battery it charges fast. I have tried to charge from 10% today to full. It took 2.5 hours (approx 150 minutes). But keep in mind that it has this large battery. And at least up to 60% was charging 1% every minute! Maybe other users can be more precise here, as i didn't check when charging slows down.
Regarding Gold version. As far i as know, only gold has 3GB RAM and 32GB internal. Black an silver have lower specs 2GB/16GB.
Reception of the signal is better than my other devices, Note 2 or Note 3.
I have attached some low res images. Let me know if you need higher quality.
Thank you very much for your reply and the photos. Very beautiful phone and case, the window seem to be very big .. more than my smartcover on my Note 3.
What's the functions with the cover (sleep wake-up, photo, music ... ?).
What's the prize with shipping and how many times for receipt tu Belgium ?
If you sold your phone, Call me for an other belgium user
For photos, if you have other pictures with good Light ... think to me
Edit : very good news for the speed of charging because not usb 3.0 on Mate 7.
The position of the speaker give good sound or not when the phone is on the desk ?
Take the phone in the hand for unlock the phone is not very good because with my Note 3, i push the home button and wake up the phone without to take the phone in hand.
With the cover from Huawei, what's happening with the fingerscan and function wake up when you open the cover ? The cover has a magnet for to keep close or not ?

I am also in Belgium and i am using the mate 7 32gb 3gb for 1 week now. Excellent phone, very fast, really nothing to say except that as it is a chinese version, i am having chinese writings depsite putting it in english. I am awaiting promptly for a custom rom
4g is working properly here, screen quality is amazing, battery is great, sound quality is excellent ... The only bad idea was from huawei to have put 2 sim cards in 2 different formats. One in Micro sim and one nano Very annoying but honestly, this phone is almost "perfect".
Huawei just tweeted that they have sold 1 million mate 7 in only 1 month. That is only accounting most sales from china (coz the device is not yet available in many markets).
I am hoping that with many people buying mate 7, it will spur development of custom rom for this device.
Been running my Axon on and off for a week (not yet my daily driver due to being lazy with backing up my old phone)... Anyway one thing I have noticed is that the phone seems to be always running at over 50% RAM usage. If I launch one app - or anything else - and then clear all it will revert to running at a variable 1.6 to 2GB of 'available RAM.
Is this normal?
A picture often helps! Sorry that it links off to PhotoBucket - I don't know how to get it to launch in the XDA image window.

Axon 7
Galaxy S3 for comparison
Since 4GB is supposed to be 'wayyy' more than enough (as reviews on the OnePlus3 naysayers would have me believe) I don't expect to have an out of the box phone running at more than 50% RAM usage - this doesn't make sense to my non-technical self. On my i9300 (Galaxy S3) I run CyanogenMod 13 and that OS runs at 260MB of RAM vs 850MB on the Axon! Can someone explain?
I'm running the B3 update but had this before I applied it.
I am having some other connectivity issues and am considering sending this unit back for exchange. It's just hard to tell when I don't know what 'normal' is for this phone.
I want to love this phone. I just need it to love me!
Thanks guys! :good:
I need to restart my Axon 7 (A2017G) every two days or I will get a laggy UI, it's a ram problem too. So we're probably in the same boat. I hope they'll fix it in the next update (which comes after the bootloader unlock thingy if I'm right?)

Yes bootloader unlock is being currently worked on, then an update after that.
RAM management in Android isn't about a predefined amount. You're using way more with the Axon 7 than the S3 because there is way more available. If it's there why not use it to get a better experience ?
Altyough, i haven't noticed this laggy ui issue...

I agree with this MiFavor is crap when it runs for a longer time. I gets laggy on the second day. One has to reboot to get a smooth system again.
While on my old phone with CM and 4GB Ram it stays blazing fast after a week without reboot.
We can only hope CM isn't to far away.
So, reading between the lines here, you guys. Think it's software rather than hardware?
I'm just building an evidence base to warrant an exchange. Although the prospect of a two month wait leaves me reluctant.

It sure is software. 4gb ram is more than enough. Really. It's just that MIfavor likes ram and eats it like chocolate.

I guess what I really was getting at is how likely is it that the physical RAM is faulty rather than the software being RAM hungry. I ask as it seems my phone is a bit flaky in a few areas and I wonder if it's just like a b-grade item.
But take all the points on board that most likely software. How would I be able to rule out any physical RAM antics?

Look at the chipset. It's an snapdragon 820 which specifies the use of LPDDR4 dual channel.
OEM's usually receive a list of tested and recommended RAM chips from the chipset manufacturer.
No OEM who's right in their mind is going to use cheap RAM for a device that needs to survive at least 3 years of usage. Also less likely is that low powered ram is going to become faulty in a time frame under 10 years.
I plan and build enterprise servers on daily basis. I can a sure you it's software RAM management that is the issue.
Okay cool. Thanks for the clarification.
One technical issue down just two others to resolve!
Sorry for digging the grave, but all I want to say is that even today my Axon 7 with Android Nougat is having memory leak after 2 to 3 days usage. I can't switch between apps properly without them crashing and having to restart completely. But there is good news. According to somebody from ZTE, when the Axon 7 is getting Android 8 (Oreo), though only the US model has been mentioned, the MiFavor is going to be removed and the OS is going to be more or less stock-ish. Which would also mean that hopefully the memeory leakage will be almost gone. Also, hopefully, the EU model will get the same experience. 4GB RAM and memory leak is a bad joke.
i used to have the same issues and what i did is i switched to other launcher instead of using MiFavor... and it solved me lag features and i probably need to reboot my phone once a while when i got unresponsive / slow phone wake... then it back to normal again. But again its still doesn't solve my phone battery drain issue... my phone only can last me 6am to 10pm with normal usage (surfing internet, wifi, youtube, emails, whatsapp and reading novels... no bluetooth and no gaming and no song played).
I'm currently using Lawnchair Launcher and even with Lawnfeed plugin allowing the Google Now page from the left, my phone is very responsive and rarely needs a restart. Appcrash is quite rare.
I recommend Lawnchair if you would like a functional and close to stock (but improved) experience.
I used to use Smart Launcher Pro but that started getting a bit fat, as most apps do over time. Feature bloat always slows them down as they get developed.

Have you tried completely reinstalling the system? It fixed my drain and also some random reboots that I couldn't get rid of even by updating. Just install Lineage (don't forget abt the universal bootloader and modem), then boot it up and use it a couple minutes (if you want, you can check if you have that same battery drain in Lineage), then follow a guide to go back to stock (if A2017G, I made one; if A2017U, you can use DrakenFX's back to stock files).
hello to every one . pls read this and think about .
I am a mobile repair specialist and seller too . in 2017I sold a few models of doogee . Each had its own problems
(fingerprint ,bad battery , not ota update, bad 4g and more . So I changed them with other brands
I decided to install them firmware again , Each one found a new problem, and some diedد
so i send few email to company . after 3 month i recived this answer ( pls check our site
Now pay attention Do not waste your money
1- doogee havent a suporter for your problems
2- Doogee havent a good sound spk and calling voice
3-Most profiles are unrealistic ( camera . battery , finger print time , ota update,.........
4- There is no definite way to install the firmware, and any problem can be foundEven if they are of a model
5- If you have this brand, forget about updating to the newer Android
6- The handsets are not even supported by Google, for example, look at the Smart Lock .If available, it will be removed after reset by recovery or it will not have a face lock . check android 7 original options
7- Go to the site and you will see thousands of problems said and there are no answers
8- I was fired by writing the brand problems. Because they could not solve, but I will write on different sites.
9- ok now , you can read and writing your comment about my idea
I agree. Bought a Doogee Mix and its trash. The system is buggy, gps overheats the phone and restarts, very very bad wifi... I dont remember more things, but I stopped using it many months ago. Trash phone.
Doogee mix is just a scrap.
I also had similar problem and finally after 4 month I have to throw away.

it is a brand to ban, no support and devices have too many problems.
The MIX smartphone is very fragile, the screen and the rear glass is broken after only two falls at low height.
The charger heats up with a strange smell and a very unpleasant whistle.
GPS is not accurate, there is no optimization, the device heats, the sound is disgusting you hear nothing in call! the double camera is false, etc...
To ban !!!
Now it's on trash
I agree, never
I agree. Doogee is garbage. I got the f7 pro when it first came out. Nothing but problems. Nothing up to spec
HaHAHa, WTF? The camera is a big big garbage, indeed. With root and a little bit tweaking, this phone rocks.
@Digo69 show me one high price gorilla glass phone, (with front and back glass) that falls to the ground from more than 50cm height and nothing is damaged. Come on. Post a video and show me that phone plz.
Because I am a pro photographer, I don't care if a smartphone camera is brilliant or not. The Doogee's one is 100% garbage. The rest of the phone is great (in this price segment) and I am a heavy and frequent user.
bit of an old thread but not to old.
Im after ordering the S90, Im really looking forward to it arriving.
I dont care about the aftercare from the company, Im after having 3 oukitel phones over the last few years and they have non existent aftercare when it comes to their phones.
I have the miracle box and I can replace screens if they break so Im happy.

Yeah, I had an S70lte, liked it enough thought Id order the full fat version. I never got a reply from the doogeemall.com webstore. they never once replied to any messages, so I just cancelled payment through my bank. If they don't have time to address customer concerns they don't need my money. I also noticed in the delay my order sat un-filled the price of the phone kept dropping and they still didn't send mine. Tough to want to get another after that.
I brought doogee s90. the touch doesn't work. I have to lock and unlock to make it work and the phone keeps on restarting. done factory reset but no use. the company doesn't respond to query .is there any way to fix it
100% AGREE
Same for me !
I bought a S90 ,I can still make calls with it BUT if I try to install an app ,it crashes ,whatever it is !
My wife bought a S70 Lite ,working BUT if anybody try to call her ,he can ear his own voice as a loud echo ...
So I agree !
Did I get Lucky? I have been using XDA for ... since they were created and only today created an account to post. I bought a Doogee S90 2 years back. Love the phone, its hardcore rugged and lasted. Took this thing in the ocean in Mexico (vaca) multiple water rafting trips and it awesome. Soda, food spills? Just wash it in the sink. it has been thrown, dropped many times and never a screen crack or damage.Everything works GREAT. I never experience the phone everyone posts online..... not once. I added a 128gb storage, game on it all the time and more. Even now, I'm Still using the phone 2 years later. I have never owned a Phone as tough and rugged as this. Heck, even works with Cricket Wireless (my carrier/AT&T network clone).
Only issues I have had so far.... I never got the night vision or camera attachment working, that never worked. CB radio worked, fm radio worked, 5g and more all works. Phone is water proof and tough as hell.... yea throw it across the street and wash it under the sink, take it kayaking, fishing and underwater (ive done these things), no issues there.
other issue, no android support or upgrades. the Doogee company is JUNK/Crap for not supporting their software, no firmware updates. I'm still stuck on Droid 8.1 in 2021 and im now searching like hell for a ROM hack. I want to install droid 10 or 11.... but i can't find anything. Never a software patch to fix the night-vision that never worked or cam attachment.
This may be my last Doogee phone, I read all the new phones from Doogee will not support Cricket/AT&T network bands......
SO... I love the rugged phone, whats the Doogee competitor?

HaHAHa, WTF? The camera is a big big garbage, indeed. With root and a little bit tweaking, this phone rocks.
@Digo69 show me one high price gorilla glass phone, (with front and back glass) that falls to the ground from more than 50cm height and nothing is damaged. Come on. Post a video and show me that phone plz.
Because I am a pro photographer, I don't care if a smartphone camera is brilliant or not. The Doogee's one is 100% garbage. The rest of the phone is great (in this price segment) and I am a heavy and frequent user.

Hey I'm new here. I bought a DOOGEE S86 off eBay about 6-months ago and couldn't be more pleased.
Everything works great, have dropped it about 15' off the roof a couple times. It's been swimming in my pond about 10' once. The 8500mah battery lasts me for 2 days 48 hrs. and that's using it playing videos, listening to music, using tools such as level, distance measurer, protractor, all while I might have anywhere from 20 to 50 web pages open on 4 different browsers.
I'm hard on phones. Also I still have 4g LTE service when all my friends phones can't even get a signal. Loudspeaker is awesome clear and loud.
I own S68Pro for quite a few years. It's a BRICK. You could use it as a deadly weapon. Armored as hell and heavy. Still works.
But ZERO droid updates. Do not EVER expect any software update from Doogee after the initial software.
Been using it with lineage OS since almost the start. Most things work except sound hiccups when calling with someone making it almost unusable for phone calls.
Using it for navigation/internet/backup phone since.
That said I would not buy phone without software support ever again.
As written in another post they do not release kernel source so there is not much to be done about getting newer droid on it.
Hi
I have an s86pro, rooted via magisk. And, apart from a few aesthetic inconveniences the android 10, and the absence of OTA update. Nothing to report for this model. It's true that you can easily kill someone with it. I got tired of "big" brands telling you that your phone is dead because you keep it in your pocket. Corrosion. No kidding... I'm not going to take a bag just to carry a cell phone. My s86pro fell from high, lots of times, it took fleet and other liquid, 4g+bt+24/7 hotspot, and it's my daily pda, etc., etc. Nickel autonomy. So yes it is heavy but damn it does the job and it does it well. I do not know the other models of the brand, but this model I vote for. And in customer service, they don't know their products. Contacted by email for info, unable to give an answer related to the question. In short, like most customer service these days.
In any case I like this model, great ratio / quality / price.
Hi. I have the Doogee Max V 5g, switching over from the Ulefone Armor 10 5g in late 2020 when Blu was dragging its heels getting into the 5G game and the last few Vivo X models totally sucked plus I was breaking them much faster than when I initially got on board in 2006.
Apparently I lucked out with the Ulefone Armor 10 because my speaker lasted 2 years. Most complain that theirs go sooner than that AND I was able to get mine to work on ATT. While I found the speaker for the cheap price of $8.47, no one knows how to repair it.
So, based on a cnet review that the Doogee Max V 5g blew the new Ulefone Armor 18T 5g out of the water and the specs were superior, while the prices were similar and Doogee came with an extended warranty, the decision was simple.
One nano hitch: Android 12 -- one can no longer record phone conversations from native phone app. (Caveat: no matter what you see in app store, telephone apps have been blocked from recording calls since Android 9)
I absolutely must be able to record phone calls for meetings etc.
Otherwise, I love this phone!! Yup, it's heavy, as are most rugged phones. A good thing since I often drop the poor thing on the face plate several times a day!! Nighttime, infrared and under water photography is a breeze.
We'll see how rooting with Magisk to make the telephone recording available goes.
