Help with deciding - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having owned a Nexus 5 32GB before and now currently an Iphone 5 64GB, I have been looking at the LG G2
Am rather bored of the Iphone now and feel I would like to return to Android for a while, I loved the Nexus and really wondered why I swapped back to the Iphone (moment of madness i guess)
But the battery life and camera were pretty sub par on the Nexus.
Just want to know if the build quality is the same seeing as they are both made by LG
Hows the battery life, hopefully better than the Nexus, must be better than the appalling Iphone battery.
Hows the screen, I liked the Nexus screen but was a little as washed out.
Cant seem to find 32GB ones any where, they are like Rocking Horse S... plenty of 16GB ones, but I've heard that there is only 10MB or actually storage is this true?

I switched to LG G2 from SGS3 and I love it. It's very responsive., has great battery life- two days normal use is easy. Screen is great as well. The only drawback in the beginning is the lack of volume rocker. Everything is on one button in the back but you get use to it and I love it as well.

would you guys upgrade from an HTC one X

the one X made me fall in love with IPS plus, and the battery life on my phone with good use still gets to 22 % at 11pm which is vital for a college student as the few hours after 11 are the most important haha. anyway i want to know if it is worth selling it and buying this phone. i use straight talk with atnt towers and get good reception. im actually on my mac right now with no internet connection just tethering due to the hurricane.
i want the nexus 4 because of the supposed 300ppi and the pure android. i used to love sense but now i cant stand it. the one thing that would be a deal breaker for me is the camera. who can compare the one x camera and screen vs the nexus 4 that should help me decide. other then that i think the phone is brilliant and the pricing is unbeatable i strongly urge people to really support this phone.
I'm sorry to say but the One X has a pretty terrible camera. I'm not sure if a part of it is due to CM10 not having the right drivers/settings/etc... but all my photos come out out-of-focus or really grainy. If you look up the shots from the N4, they look pretty good.
I am switching over to a N4 just because I love having stock Android. And as great as the CM community is, they are useless if the manufacture doesn't release the source code for their stuff. The Nexus series has the advantage of being completely supported by Google and custom ROMS should have little to no bugs on them.
I love my One X LTE, and I am willing to sacrifice LTE just for the AOSP.
I've heard the One X has a slightly better looking screen than the Optimus G, which should be the same for the Nexus 4. 6 more ppi on the Nexus 4 if you're into that though
I would upgrade because of battery life. I would be shocked if the nexus 4 doesn't get better battery life than the One x cause the One X has horrible battery life. When I had it, I had to limit my usage to have some juice left when I got home in the evening.
i'm going to give my international htc one x to my mother and plan to get a n4 for myself
Me, I'll give my One X to my father and make him buy me the Nexus 4 . This way I can check them both out at the same time
Looking for 5hrs+ screen on time with 28nm snapdragon and 2100mah battery
Reasons why I upgrade from HTC One X:
- Instant android upgrades, no more waiting.
- Hope for better battery life
- Bad ass dev support (One X has great dev support also)
-
I'm keeping both, but if storage isnt a problem then it would be a nice upgrade, not necessary. I had great battery life with jellybean.
when i had the one x i get about 2 hours of on screen time which was poor. Compared to 3-4 hours on screen time....
So hopefully the nexus delivers with lg's high density battery.
Battery life and camera is not that bad on the one x. You can't judge a phone by not using the official software. CMX(10) on hox does have sh**ty camera performance because there is no camera drivers being used.
I think battery life would be better on the nexus 4 compared to the one x. Camera wise it might be tight, as the hox have some nice outdoor performance with the camera but not so good indoor and with poor lighting conditions. It will be tight to match the screen of the hox but it won't be bad.
You stated that you hate sense, so if that's the case I would advise you to move to this then. You should just remember that you would have a lot less memory available. The one positive is that you will always receive updates first with the nexus 4.

I like sense... Just wish it wasn't a memory hog. I do miss my sense clock, and friendstream.

I also am wondering if I should change from my One X to the Nexus 4....
I want to change but the sense skin features text wrap and its full screen web browsing, I've used chrome and dolphin they don't support text wrap or full screen with the status bar and tabs still appearing which takes a lot of screen space. Other then that I think the nexus 4 is a brilliant upgrade just waiting for the reviews, camera and dac are important to me since these where less impressive on the hox.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I'm waiting on reviews of the Nexus 4, but I'm heavily considering it. I really like the look of the Nexus 4, the fact that its stock Android, and that it has wireless charging. I imagine I'd be able to resell my One X for, at the very least, $300 (hopefully $350).
I intend to upgrade if I can find someone to buy my One X off me. There are 2 main reasons for me;
1. Battery life should be alot better. My phone lasts me the day usually but not with heavy use. The 40nm Tegra 3 chip just isn't very energy efficient when in use and the battery isn't big enough.
2. Pure android. I like Sense but my Nexus 7 has made me love AOSP android. I will miss the Sense dialer but nothing else really bothers me.
As a one x user I will buy nexus 4. Not because I don't like htc one x, its a great phone but I never owned a nexus phone and this nexus is a beast!

i'd say yeh, definitely cm10 causing this. it makes my s3 pictures look horrible as well. so basically im stuck w/ touchwiz unless i want ****ty pictures. that's a good enough reason to get an n4 for sure.
awsome. im getting around 350$ for my hox so i guess its an easy upgrade for me. thanks guys cant wait to enjoy true aosp. sense is awsome much better than touchwiz for sure but definitely great. my battery was good because of mods i did but anyway if the nexus is supposed to get 4 hours on screen then hell yea im switching. i saw the 3d panorama and the wireless charging and now im def on board. see you guys around the roms forums and enjoy ;D
I would, it's a better phone, it'll have better dev support and even better, you can probably cover the cost of it by selling your One X. No brainer.
I'm switching from my one x, only if I can sell it for at least 300 though.
cameras are still crappy in phones s3 and n8 are the best i think.
sensation g2x cameras are
are crappyband stutters

The Test of Time?

Now that this phone has been out for over a year, does anybody have any complaints?
How's the battery life?
Has it, or does it ever randomly freeze?
Anything you hate about it now that you've been using it for some time?
Lastly, I found this phone and the LG Optimus G new for around the same price range, the Nexus 4 being around $20 more expensive. Aside from the removable SD card on the Optimus G and LTE support, and the potentially removable battery on this phone, are there any other differences? If you had a choice to go with either phone once again, and neither the SD card, LTE support, nor battery being an issue in making your decision, which would you go with, and why? I believe the only other difference would be the Android support, with the Nexus 4 running 4.4.2, and the Optimus G running 4.1.2.
In other words, my friend is stuck between making a decision between the two and doesn't know which to go with.
Thanks!
Dude they look like almost the exact same phone. The only difference I can see on GSM Arena is that the Optimus has a (market dependent) 13 mp camera vs Nexus's 8mp subpar camera. If it did have a 13mp camera I would get the Optimus. Otherwise as bad as I hate to say it I just can't make myself get another phone at this point. I realllly want an LG G2 but it's like having a car that's paid for that you've become comfortable with and you got it like you like it. Although there are other models that may be a little bigger and get a little better gas mileage and have the navigation built into the steering wheel. Lol. My phone gets phenomenal battery life, can be upgraded to 4.4.2. Will continue to get a fair amount of developer support. Has a super cool glass back. I mean I think it's a good decision. I would probably never get another phone if I had a better camera... Tough choice.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, they're essentially the same phone. That's the reason for the troubles, because the differences are so minor, I was just wondering if there was anything bigger than what was posted on a web a year ago.
If your friend doesn't care for LTE or more storage, then nexus 4 would be better. Running latest android version, lots of development support, looks fabulous with the glass back, running very smooth, battery is average but hey, this is a smartphone mate. of course it would gobble down battery fast (still I got almost 7 hours of sot with 22 hours of usage, not very average ain't it? ) But then, it depends on your friend, if he's not so much into rooting or updating android version, many of the nexus advantages would be nothing to him.
The screen will go at some point. Mine just did after 14 months. I was lucky. Some had theirs go funny at 6 months and LG refused to change the screen under warranty. My soft keys don't work in landscape. Only solution is a new screen. Save yourself the headache and buy something else.

Just to clarify, which screen will go out? The Nexus 4?

The performance and the display are excellent.
Battery life is ok.
But the LTE and the really bad camera make me consider an upgrade.
I would recommend to get a newer device.
About a year old now and this is still the sexiest phone. True there are better options but for the price it is still a tough one to beat. Zero issues with it, was my wife's at first, she broke the LCD a few months in (not the phones fault as she has broken half a dozen phones now) so she moved to wp8 (great for her) I took the n4 and swapped a new digitizer/LCD in it and it has been flawless for 8 months or so now.
I have played with a lot of the newer phones and this one still competes great, yes the camera could be better but for my purposes it is still perfect, oh and did I mention sexy as hell?

Is the G2 worth getting over Nexus 5?

Hi, I'm getting either the G2 or the Nexus 5. They are priced the same in my country, so I'm having a hard time deciding which one to buy. I really like the LG G2 with its screen and camera, but the Nexus 5 on the other hand, has a stock Android experience and guaranteed fast Android updates in the future. Plus, it's a tad slimmer and lighter. So, which device would you recommend?
Thank you for your time.

Have you gotten any answer from the Nexus 5 sub-forum?
I have both in front of me and have used both for around a month.
LG G2 Pros
*Much* longer battery life
*Much* more versatile rear camera, slightly better quality
Moderately better quality front camera
More vibrant screen, although Faux's gamma app on the Nexus 5 can remedy the Nexus 5 screen a bit
LG "fluff" like the unlocking animation, launcher, calendar, and battery stats are all quite nice
Knock on/knock off are really nice in helping you manipulate your phone while its lying on a desk. You can replicate it on the Nexus 5, but it isn't as battery efficient
quick access to the camera via long hold of volume down
Nexus 5 Pros:
If you are a flashaholic, only the Nexus 5 can help you
Physical power/volume buttons on the sides..although the power button is placed in a rather poor spot
Timely android updates
Google wallet
wireless charging
Having a versatile camera (being able to change ISO, easy access to exposure compensation, white balance, self timer, etc) and a longer battery life (since im on a motorcycle a lot) are much more important to me than being able to brag that I get the newest android updates before anyone else does (hint: none of my friends care). Both are just as fast when it comes to UI manipulation (while the LG does it with more class) so you cannot claim that the lighter weight Nexus 5 OS provides more responsiveness. Google wallet works at the local mc donalds 90% of the time, the other 10% you look like an idiot to everyone else trying to pay with your phone and holding up the line. I don't have to spend hours chasing wakelocks or trying to find the optimal undervolting settings on my LG G2 since the battery life is superb regardless.
I vote LG g2, battery life is AMAZING, camera is better, was super easy to root, I flash all kinds of craziness on it.
Running cm11 (which has knock knock functionality) so basically its like a nexus 5 with a bigger battery, better camera, and some cool features
Thanks for your answers guys. The G2 indeed looks like the better choice.

I've had both, purchased the nexus 5 the first day. Used it for about a month or so and sold it. Its a nice device and excellent feel to it. Its stock android at its best, went back to my nexus 4. Recently picked up a lg g2 at $200 off contract, and its very nice.
Lg g2
pros: battery life is excellent, heavy use 26 hours plus
quality is excellent
size is about right
overall excellent phone
camera is very good
cons:
not stock android nor latest updates: its all personal preference here, I linger around these forums still but I'm not constantly checking for nightly updates on custom roms or trying to fix issues.
LG g2 os is nice but not for everyone, they did an excellent job and I do like parts of it.
Nexus 5
pros: stock android
latest updates...who gives a damn anymore if the phone works and does what you need, why worry and complain about having the latest OS
nice build quality but hit miss
cons:
camera wasnt that good
waste time playing with roms, checking nightly builds blah blah
Either one you can't go wrong, if you really want plain android nexus 5 is the way to go, or just hold off for the galaxy s5. Lg g2 has stepped up their products and hopefully continue in the right direction.

Thanks for your reply bro. The battery, camera and design of the G2 are more important to me than the fast Android updates of the Nexus 5. I don't mind the LG user interface, though if I don't like it, there is always CyanogenMod . I'm not a flashaholic (I used to be, but eventually got tired of it), so the G2 would suit me well.

I just swapped my Nexus 5 to an LG G2 2 days ago, thinking that it's an overall better device. But after a day of tweaking, flashing, and thoroughly using it, I returned the G2 , and went back to Nexus 5 .
I can't stand the stutters(!) and inconsistent/super-slow/hard-to-focus camera of the G2 (on any rom, including stock; i use it mostly indoors with good lighting). The HDR on the G2 is always a miss, and just 20% of the time, a hit (on any rom i tried; only tried HDR outdoors, morning and afternoon). The Nexus 5 's camera is consistent, always focusing right even on a dark room - saves you time. The HDR+ on the Nexus 5 also works the way it should.
Also to me, the Nexus 5 is more solidly-built. The G2 creaks every time I hold it with a little amount of pressure. It looks premium but feels cheap! The screen is barely viewable under direct sunlight. The Nexus 5 also has an excellent microphone! I called my girlfriend today using an in-ear headphone without a built-in mic. I had my Nexus 5 lay flat beside me (about 1 meter distance) while doing something else. She can hear my voice clearly. I was surprised because this is the first time I encountered this on any device.
However, there are things I like about the G2 over the Nexus 5 . Namely: 1) the buttons at the back (I listen to music all the time, and the back buttons are more finger-friendly when using the volume buttons to control music while inside your pocket) 2) the headphone jack placement, 3) the LED light beside the earpiece, 4) manual focus on stock camera and obviously, 5) the battery.
The Nexus 5 (FOR ME) is an overall better and more usable device under any circumstances, even if both are compared using stock roms, with no modifications.
I have both phones. On the hardware side I would say the G2 is simply better: battery, camera and for me the screen. The N5's screen seems washed out and it's the only 1080p screen I've noticed pixels without looking for them.
On the software side I prefer stock android and Kitkat brings a lot of smoothness and speed. My experience with the G2's interface was not great compared to the N5: scroll lag, flickering brightness, notification drawer.
My solution was to install custom roms and the G2 has become the best phone. I gave the N5 to the wife

DEFO!!!

How many of us will sold their G3 to buy Nexus 6?

I don't think I'll be the one. I'm sick and tired of locked bootloader and now Nexus 6 is anounced with same paramers as G3 but with 3 GB Ram. Deffinitely I miss my old Galaxy Nexus with thousand of custom roms..
The Nexus 6 will have the S805 with 3GB RAM, unlocked boot loader with loads of custom Roms and kernels and a 2k screen. If it has a MicroSD slot also then its a definite winner over the G3.
If it's like any other nexus, i highly doubt they're gonna add a micro sd slot, since they never did put any on every other nexuses (nexusi ? Whatever). And personally, i think a 5.9inch display is way too big. The G3 fits perfectly in my hands.
Has Nexus 6 been announced already?
A lot of "ifs" on the Nexus 6 still. Battery life, storage, materials, and hand fit. And cost of course.
The big one for me is battery life. If the rumored 3200mah is true, with that huge screen it's probably going to push it to lower than the G3, which is already marginal. If it has AMOLED rather than LCD it might be a bit better, but even then it's pushing it.
Nexus 6 announced? Lol where
Sent from my LG-F460S using XDA Free mobile app
Don't think I'll sell my G3 but it's very likely that I'll buy the new Nexus phone to replace it. In regards to battery life, I'm on this G3 forum almost everyday hearing people talk about how horrible the battery is on this phone but I get far better usage than any other Android device I've owned (and I've gone through a few of em). Maybe it's the fact that I have the Rogers D852 that no one else seems to own but I take my phone off the charger at 7am each morning and I can get to 7am the next day with 15-20% battery remaining under my normal use with Bluetooth & WiFi on and Power Saving mode disabled. Go figure
Im so irritated with the lack of custom roms/dev support im almost about to let my G3 go as well. This phone the most powerful device ive ever owned across all specs and i cant do **** with it but root lol. Im kind of getting tired of android too. I may do the unthinkable and sell my G3, and then buy a blackberry passport just because its different.
no sd slot? no thanks.
i had 5 nexus devices and at some point i got sick of always deleting old music to make storage for new mp3s. when i`m on the walk i want to listen what i want and not what there was space for.
this is the biggest downside for nexus devices and was the reason why i bought the g3.
If the Nexus 6 (Nexus X?) is available on Verizon - I know, big and unlikely if - I can almost guarantee I'll be selling my 3 week old G3. I like this phone, but I hate OEM skins and the lack of an unlocked bootloader means I'm stuck with LG's ****ty software. I only have this phone because my G2 died within the one year manufacturer warranty and Best Buy didn't have any in stock. I can't wait to not own this phone anymore.
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/cnet/NnTv/~3/EWCzxus_SR4/
I can't pocket a 6" screen phone. Nice sounding specs though.
I'll sell in a heart beat for aosp
LG has destroyed hope in my experience owning this phone lol
No sd slot no thanks..... and rumored 5.9 inch screen is way too big
I think they might put an SD slot on it. Remember it is Motorolla that is making it and it is going to be more expensive than the N5. But it is a deal breaker, if it does have an SD slot then its a must buy, if not forget it.
Doesn't look like a will be getting one if these rumours are anything to by. The sheer size of it is a put off.

The Nexus 6 will have to be a LOT better made than the last few in order to make me change. The 4 had a rubbish screen and a terrible camera, the 5 has appalling quality control, a dull, uninteresting design and the worst screen ive seen in years.
I have no issues with a near 6" screen.
At my age my eyes need all the help they can get.
What worries me is the knocked up photo of n6 next to a g3.
And it's huge. So much bigger than the g3 it's not funny.

I know right. I can barely pocket my G3 without having a giant square outline. Anything after 5.5 is just too large of a screen.
Nexus 6 would be the same size like ip6+ just with a 5.9 vs 5.5 inch screen. If the battery will be better than G3, for sure I'll buy it. Indeed battery is a major factor for me. And I am not disappointed by G3 battery but I want a longer screen-on time.
If the 6" screen rumor is accurate, it's too big for me. Also, it won't have SD card support, nor a removable battery. As big as it is, the latter probably isn't an issue, but storage is.

[Q] Which phone do you recommend me to upgrade to from a N4?

I have had a nexus 4 for almost 2 years and I like it. Even so it has its negative points, especially after all this time. It's not as responsive as it used to be and battery life, which wasn't stellar to begin with, has decayed a lot. With this in mind I have been searching for a good phone to replace it. I was waiting for the Nexus 6 to come out but when it was officially announced that screen size and the price scared me away.
After the announcement I have been searching and comparing a bunch of phones. I was interested on the OnePlus One but the buying process is a pain in the ass. I checked the S5 but then I remembered it had the infamous Touchwiz which I had already (even though in an earlier incarnation) on a Galaxy Ace I had before the N4 and there was also the fact that it is expensive as hell on my carrier. I also checked the HTC One M8 but the camera resolution seems horrible. I have checked the Sony Xperia line but it is as expensive as the S5 in my carrier and also pretty expensive on sites like Amazon. At last I have been comparing between a Nexus 5 and a LG G3. I know they have almost a year between them but I like the fact that the Nexus 5 is cheap and receives fast updates, although I have heard battery life was not improved very much. And, on the G3's side, it is newer, has better hardware and supposedly has a good battery life(I have heard mixed views on this as some say battery is good while others say it is horrible).
So, to sum it up, I would like to know your opinions and would also like to know if you happen to know some other options I haven't considered.
Thanks and sorry for the long post and if this wasn't the right forum to ask this.

Look at an LG G2. $400 for a new one, under $300 for a used one in good/mint condition. Beefy 3000mAh battery, very competent hardware, big screen in a not-so-big body, and a good amount of development if you want to try different ROMs/kernels. As cheap, or even cheaper, than a Nexus 5, but with a much bigger battery and better camera. With the G3 out, prices have plummeted on the G2, and have made it a veritable bargain.
The G3 is a hell of a phone. The QHD screen might drain the battery a bit more, but on this phone the battery is replaceable, so just buy a spare if you're worried about that. Not much development yet, but if you buy the T-Mobile version or one with an unlocked bootloader it's easy to root and modify with Xposed, which gives you plenty of options to tweak it to your satisfaction.
Regarding the HTC One's camera - it's not great, but it's not bad either. If all you're wanting to do is post pics to Facebook or internet forums, it's perfectly fine, since pictures will be reduced anyway. Where it suffers is in cropped detailed pics, and stuff like sweeping vistas and anything far away. That aside, the One is an awesome device.
My personal choice from what's available right now would definitely be the HTC One M8. If you don't care a huge deal about the camera then there are very few flaws to it at all. The camera on the M8 will definitely be worse in normal light than most other flagships but the pictures it takes are still far better than those from the N4 and in low light the camera performs better than most, not to mention the fact that it has good autofocus and a myriad of extra features which you may or may not find useful but they're still nice to have. Battery life is excellent, the screen is absolutely gorgeous, Sense brings extra features and (arguably) a nicer design than AOSP whilst retaining excellent performance and the phone is just generally far nicer to use than anything else I've tried.
Look for the Huawei Honor 6.
300$, full LTE, 16GB upgradable with microSD, beautiful 5" HD screen... I'm gonna buy this phone in the next week for replacement of my N4.
I went from a Nexus 4 to a HTC One M8 and hated it, hence why I'm back with my Nexus 4. That said, I'm definitely in the minority.
