I have been using this for a while and now w/ the new radio needing a "primer program" this works great for me!
Now that we all have built in GPS, I would like to introduce you to what I use to start my GPS. I open Navizon, turn on my wifi, and pause till it is open. Then I open my mapping ap (I like Live Search).
Navizon gets started quickly with the cell tower and wifi access point triangulation, and then gets the gps chip going quickly; so live search is ready to go by the time I get in a destination.
Navizon:
http://www.navizon.com
Navizon is a wireless positioning system that works a little bit like a GPS, except it uses Cellular Towers and Wifi access points instead of satellites. In addition to being a wireless position system, Navizon offers features like the Directions, Buddy finder, Geotags and more...
This software relies on a community of users who contribute data to the system (WiFi and Cellular towers) when they have a GPS device. And the cool thing is that we can earn money doing it with the Navizon reward system:
http://www.navizon.com/navizon_rewards.asp
I'm already using it and you could make money too with it if you're interested. All you need is to install it on your phone and have Navizon connected to your GPS. Every Wifi access points that you pass, every cell tower that you log will mean money in your pocket.
So now that we have a phone that is compatible with Navizon, you should really check it out.
If you plan on registering, please do so by clicking on the link below:

That way, I can also earn some referral points if I'm the one who introduced you to the system ;-)
If you like the wifi positioning by itself - you can cash in your first $20 payout for the full version, after that it gets popped into your paypal account, and if you turn your friends onto it you can get a little extra too!
In fact, hey birthday boy, Mike (wideawake), why not put a link to this in the help ppcgeeks thread, I bet it would generate a bit of "mad money"!
UPDATE: This is no longer relevant - uncheck load at startup in settings...(edit - I do have one nitpick w/ this ap though; I have to go and delete the ap from the windows/startup folder all the time - I don't need it to start at boot for cryin' out loud! - eh I should make a mortscript to delete it at closing the ap or something..)

Anyone like this, hate this, already use it, I personaly realy like it. I had tried it over a year ago when I had a 6700 and no bluetooth, and didn't have good accuracy, but no programatic problems. Now, I use it everytime I go anywhere at all new, I'm kind of addicted!
Over 350 views, and no responces? Does everyone already use it?
I installed it and kept it running to see how long it would take to drain the battery. My battery went from 97% charged to a low battery warning in about 5.5 hours. That was with the screen turned off, too. The GPS, Wifi, and cellular radio were all enabled during this period.
This app (or, more accurately: the way it uses your hardware) sucks your battery dry, so be sure to have a charger handy.

5.5 hours? you are VERY lucky. it pulled my mogul from 90% to warning about about an hour.
JD
Krap Sakes, it's not for walkin around on a reg basis - the WiFi on the mogul will suck the battery dry quicker than a $20 ho when you give 'er a $50!
(think about it...)
I rarely use it except when I'm driving and plugged in. I might go ahead if I knew I was walking in a prime spot, but to walk around for 5+ hours Navizoning, I would want a car battery! Same as wardriving, it's on the heavier side of what our moguls can do, but it can, so we do!
If I was going to walk with it I might actually consider one of those "Solar Cell" hat things...
I've earned about $80 to my paypal so far just running this on my mogul since I first heard about it...

Cell towers discovered by you 860 12900

Bonus points 0
Total: 43971
You have claimed 4 rewards

I signed up under the post obove me, maybe this could become a pyramid scheme...
But after using for a day have found when with wifi, gps & evdo network with verizon the battery drain is crazy. I think the battery gauge even went down while plugged into my hadsfree kit in the car.
Try going into the wifi card settings (start/settings/connections/wireless lan/power settings tab) and set the slider to either the middle setting (what I use) or best battery. Then in the power settings of Navizon and check 'let Navizon manage power', then set the slider to the middle setting. For best power savings you could also set your backlight settings lower (I do this sometimes, not always).
That works pretty well for me, the car charger still makes the power bar go up!
Good luck, and post back your results...
I did both of those setting today and it worked good.
Did find one problem, i removed my handset from the car cradle to use outside the coar for a call that lasted about ten minutes then when i replaced the phone the charging light came on blinking not solid and the battery just kept dropping. After doing some reading found out that phone charging did thermal shutdown because of heat and would not charge battery untill it cooled down.
Seems the wifi, gps and phone call all at same time really start to heat things up.
Especially if you have it it the hot sun i.e. on your dash.
I try to make sure I don't have anything else open as well, the more open, the more battery used.
i installed this today and cant get the program to run without a fatal error
im running DCD 3.0.1 and everytime i try to start the service it crashes and will not give a detail description on the error as i have the free version
anyone else having this problem?

i just got my first reward today, used it to upgrade to the premium version for free. thankfully im on a campus that has a couple thousand routers, and no one else smart enough to use this program, so all are mine for the taking...
Aside from the money aspect, its just kinda fun and addicting, to walk around see how many u can get
ENJOY!!
after having so much trouble trying to get the program to run correctly and having major battery drain after installing the program i removed it and dont expect to be going back
I've had great results so far. Just one day's use and over 1000 points. I found that it seems to pick up more in residential areas.
Also for anyone thinking of signing up, share the love.

Must have just missed your post yesterday. Do you have .netcf 3.5 installed? did you soft reset after install before running it the first time? these are the most commeon reasons for errors. personally I would have tried a reinstall. However it's not going to be for everyone. hit me up if you want more help.
Otherwise,

"could not find file: "Program File\Navigon\BPDNaptree.dat"
i have ran the sync multiple times and i have uninstalled and reinstalled the program multiple times and still get the same error

Have you tried clicking "update location" up to the map?
I know it could seem a fool hint, but I didn't notice it before yesterday evening (it's two days I've the phone), and for me it works: it switches on gps (you can see the icon in the notification bar on the top) and locates the phone correctly within a bunch of seconds!

I Can't get this working at all!!!!
It's enabled on my phone but on the website I get
“Phone finder" is currently disabled. For security reasons, go to your phone to enable this feature in Settings >> Location >> Phone finder."
Any ideas???

What is this outside you speak of?
Is it reliant on full GPS for the location? I thought it might give an approximate location with A-GPS. I'll give it a shot and see if I can stop paddling in this big patch of water.
Edit: Yup, that got it!
Well, seems like it uses cell based location when not having full gps coverage (ie deep inside a building) and if this is the case the phone comes with a large blue circle around it, indicating how wrong the location can be. Must admit that when having full gps it works almost instantly while when out of signal it needs some more time to approximate the position

Okay I've always had a concern of having my phone stolen and the data in it being used for nefarious purposes (i.e. someone buys with my google account). Well not that worried but its a thought. So after 6 months of cursing blur and trying to get rid of it I thought I would try out the "Locate my phone" with it.
Logged into my blur account and yep there is my phone (phone number isn't recongised), but when I try the "locate my phone" feature it just ends up searching and never finding. Not sure if this is a carrier issue (I brought an unlocked phone from the UK and I live in Australia, my carrier does not support the Milestone 2), but just wondering if anyone else has trialed this.
I had a go at lookout but kept force closing for some reason, and I figured if Blur did what I needed, no need to pay for Lookout.
I used the motoblur apps when I first got the phone just to see what they were like...
But I quickly got rid of them as the phone was running so slow and chuggy for a 1GHz and battery life was atrocious.
As for the locate my phone feature, you would have to leave GPS on all the time yeah?...the amount of apps and Google apps that can keep track of your movements if of more concern to me than tracking the phone if ever lost (I've never lost a phone to date, touch wood!)
Sent from my Milestone 2 using XDA app
I had tried to use the feature to test that if it works, but even if I enabled GPS, the web page was keeping finding my tombstone and resulted in failure. Maybe it was caused by the position I'm in (you know China's GFW always blocks some normal internet requests). Anyway, since then, I turned to pay attention to my bags instead of trusting in blur. And I should remind you that any thief who got your phone will pull out your battery at once and therefore any app can not work.
Sent from my Milestone 2
I'm not overly sure they would always pull the battery, if I was a theif I would pull the info on the phone first that way to grab details about the customer to onsell. Also be interested incase I left my phone at work (on my charger) and panicked when I got home.
I gave up on it, and tried Seekdroid, works great, only a $1. I have no issue with being tracked by my phone, I figured that they could do it from cell towers anyway (did install the app that access the tracking data out of interest). My life is so dull that I cannot see a reason why anyone would care for that info (they would find out the bus route to work and home again mainly)
MotoBlur Works for me.
Blur works fine for me. At least in South America, I tested the locate my phone feature and it worked flawlessly. I heard seekdroid is another great app for finding your phone as well.
Motoblur is a piece of crap, it only exists to slow down the device.

Hi,guys!
I can't figure out why the Android System is using more battery than others. I feel like it is awful.2 hours and17 minutes of off the charger time and I'm at 86% with wifi-on and leave my phone on airplane . I have been spending most of my time trying to find ways to save battery and it is barely working, or at best working inconsistently. I might need to try a replacement. What do you guys think?
Does anybody knows how to fix it? I'm out of ideas.
I had the same problem on my moto x. I had to uninstall all the updates to anything google related.

its the same with my s5, after all day when i check my battery stats android system uses the most battery. i'm trying all things to sort it out
Yes, sync troubles… I think that too…

I don't have it quite as bad but removing carrier IQ has helped a bit, Go get system tuner and go into app mgr and find android system press details then open and go through activities, receivers and services and make sure everything you see that says IQAgent gets unchecked. This will help you stay out of ServiceIQ's eyes and also help your battery as your entire phone is debugged through those apps.(Another words I can't find the darn post that I used to help me)
Even with my friends verizon s5 lasting 9 days on a battery >.> He gets around 15 percent android system usage

I have prepared a short guide to do that if it would help you... Here is the link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799642
How exactly is this bad? The guy has close to 30 minutes for 10% of battery life, so proportionally close to 5 hours total screen on time for a full charge and this is supposed to be abnormal? Screen on time is purely on what you should base yourself first because you have no idea on what the phone reports as "Android system". As far as I know, if you had 5 minutes of screen on time instead of 30, that would be a problem worth investigating....but 30 minutes for 10%? You should not try to find issue where there are none.
Let me show you why you can't rely on phone stats. Here is my screenshot for today. Just from looking at it, you can already see i have some kind of huge wakelock problem, severe battery drain, especially if you consider I only have about 1h15 minutes of screen on time. Anybody looking at this could see that there is a problem with my phone. The fact is, there isn't. I had a 4h16 hour conversation today, but, my phone only reports voice calls taking up 12% of my battery life. Thats because other features are not included in the voice calls tab, like how the sensors have to always check if i'm close or not to the screen to turn it on or off, or the fact that it has to manage my wifi connection while using my mobile connection that is about 1 bar in my room. There are too many unknown factors to solely rely on what you see here, or on OPs screenshot. If you have 30 mins of screen time, and have 10% battery drain, thats fantastic. Don't forget, only 1 gen ago, having 3 hours of screen time with a full charge was awesome.
Now, I am doing what I read from a guide. I just plug it in every night and only use Ultra Power Saving in the day. From the guide,I would have full internet, phone and message capabilities with maximum battery life each day. Then I can leave off UPS on weekends and holidays to enjoy all the other apps.

Does anyone use a GPS logging app? Do they output any type of useful stuff that might prove I was at a certain point at a certain time?
I'll explain: Pennsylvania has a new "Toll by Plate" system. I think it's a scam. Instead of paying a toll you just drive through. It snaps a picture of your license, then snaps a picture when you get off and sends a bill in the mail.
I got a bill for $6.35 or something. No problem. I knew about it. I was with a friend.
But another one? I went to Microcenter after work one day to pick up a Raspberry Pi 3. it's an hour drive for me.. I'm in New Jersey. Drive all the way there.. no problem.. today I get a bill in the mail for $30.05!! My little $25 RPI3 turned into a $50+ thing with this toll.
Anyway, I know the software can't help me now, but maybe in the future it'd be good to have. I can go into Google Maps and see my history, but it's not detailed. It's only that I left work and went to Microcenter, tacos, and home. Not to prove where I got on the Turnpike.
I use GPS logger on Android and it does all that. I use it to log trails on the 4500 acres we ride and hunt on.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
i happily used GPS logger developed by Mendhak previously on my samsung Note3
but later i had a problem on P9 plus vie29-c185b360 android 7 that if i close screen or unplug phone form charger the GPS logger app will be stopped even if i add the app to the protected apps ( Huawei protected app means that it will be keept running in backgroud )
the only thing i tested and working is rollback to android MM and root my device with srk tool then disable the power genie app by renaming the app then restarted the device
the solution i found on the following post :
