Title says 4.2.2, not 4.4.2 like it should. OOPS!
I really want to root my Sprint Galaxy S4 4.4.2, but I can't seem to find an updated tutorial (and I'm afraid to use an older tutorial in case it bricks my phone...). I tried TowelRoot, but it doesn't seem to work on Sprint devices. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
Are you using the SPH-L720 model from Sprint? I was able to use TowelRoot on mine with 4.4.2, however it may not work on the older OS.

Yup, I'm te hardware version is L720T.03 and everything is updated (I meant 4.4.2 in the previous post, OOPS!). I just checked for all the updates and it said none available... Are there any settings that I need to change before using TowelRoot? I'll try again.
edit: towelroot says "This phone isn't currently supported"
Just wondering if you guys would be better off discussing this in the sprint forum, you may get more relevant replies

great idea. thank you. I'll try that (new to the forum!)
L720 and L720T are different devices if I'm not mistaken...one is tri-band (hence the 'T') and the other isn't.
I have the L720 and rooted by Odin with Chainfires Auto-root.
Just putting that out there...don't want your device to get messed up (if possible) by using methods that may or may not be designed for that device.
Just my 2¢....fwiw

Hi All,
I just got my Galaxy S4 GT-I9507 (optus AU) and noticed there is not much reference to it here.
Does anyone know if the guides for root, flashing etc are compatible with this model and if there are any limitations on loading a custom rom?
Thanks

Anyone? Is there no root for the Galaxy S4 i9507? Would it work through Odin like it would i9505 as it has the same chipset?
Since no one replied, I decided to take a risk. I was able to root my i9507 with the CF-ROOT made for i9505. I will also risk installing a custom rom and get back to you with an update!
Yeh saw that post...
Did anyone else try it?

What method did you use to root and install a custom recovery?
I'n trying to flash the cf auto chainfire using odin, but i'm being told off for there being no PIT file supposedly.
EDIT: Disregard that, the issue appears to be that I had my cable plugged into a USB 3.0 port.
Flashing any modem on this variant is next to impossible.
Flashing roms is fine, but i can't seem to flash any modems lol.
Same here all 4.4 roms lose signal as soon as I out the device to sleep. I need to reboot to get optus coverage again. I could not flash any modem. I think we need a 4.3 compatible modem to come out for the 9507

Hi,
I have been playing around with a few Roms some work most don't, The signal loss can be temp fixed by putting the mobile into Aircraft mode or turning off the data then re starting the programs.
Hopefully our i9507 Modem problem will be fixed soon (with the help of the genius`s on this forum)

Really want to root my gt-i9597 but worried the aus band will get lost ect.
Also what about knox or whatever that voids your warranty is there any way around that?

Hi
Tried some kit kat roms a while ago and had dropouts so I updated to stock JB.... 4.3. I haven't noticed any drop-outs since.
Knox is a hardware level issue. It cannot be reset and it will void your warranty. What I understand is that once
your phone is rooted the knox displayed when entering download mode goes from 0*1. Have a look at this thread to explain knox.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577856
And previous post for how to root...... Im assuming a typo i9597 is i9507
If you use a smart dock >>>I've had some issues with cpu temps and charging when docked in the smart dock.
cpu temps have been excess of 80c and not charging when the charge icon is displayed.
I used an aftermarket usb charger from jaycar and removed a usb extension cable to try to minimises voltage drop.
And also removed a heap of bloatware with android tuner. So far so good.
Thanks for heads with the thread replies Fella's, Thought I'd be stuck out in the world, with a a standard 4G samsung phone.. Eeeek!
Thanks for GTi9505 CF Root via odin... Couldnt be easier, and something in the setup reported it had disabled knox Too!

Trying to root SGH-I337 (not SGH-I337M). I found a few different chainfire downloads, but non of them seem to match my model perfectly. I tried "SuperSU-JWR66N-S005-130625-1.41.zip" which I found on a YouTube video guide, but it had errors during update and failed. Fortunately, It did not brick my device.
On this site "autoroot dot chainfire dot eu/", I found this file "CF-Auto-Root-jfltecan-jfltevl-sghi337m.zip", but it says this is for model SGH-I337M. Which I think is a Canadian model (but not sure). I don't have a "M" on the end of my SGH-I337 model name.
Can someone please point me in the right direction...
Which file should I be using and where do I find it?

It will work trust me. Mj6 was a leaked att version of 4.3 then the official was mj9 before they stopped it to fix bugs and brought out mk2. It will work follow that guide. Download the mf3 emergency files flash via odin sideload mf3-mj9 then mj9-mk2 and you'll be back. Follow the guide step by step or follow the updated one ted77usa rewrote.

I337 firmware I337UCUEMK2 root?
All,
I installed the Samsung Drivers and then completed this video: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2283918 which had me use the motochopper tool for the Galaxy SF. It looked like it completed successfully and rebooted my phone, but the device is still NOT rooted. It didn't work and I am not bricked either (whew!!)
hovax615,
I'm sure you realize the importance of me getting correct and not bricking my device. Please advise when you say "you'll be back", what exactly will I be back too? to my knowledge I'm already in the beginning and phone firmware has never been changed, because my phone is still not bricked and not rooted. I have never loaded MJ6 (whatever that is). My apologies for being a noob, just trying to understand and do this safely without bricking or messing something up.
It's late for me now, and I will read any replies and continue this journey in a couple of days, perhaps tomorrow.
I really appreciate your help. Please advise.
Thank you all

I337UCUEMK2 Root? (My device is NOT bricked)
This firmware and baseband terminology gets confusing because early when I tried kies, samsung kies calls it firmware (I337UCUEMK2), but my "about" settings on the phone call it baseband (I337UCUEMK2). So I guess the word Baseband and Firmware are interchangeable?
In any case, I'm getting lots of great help here and feel I'm getting close to the finish line. It would seem that I now have two options to try:
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2473747 - sent by [email protected]
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758 - sent by both [email protected] and ted77usa
Does anyone one have a suggestion or preference on which of these two root methods is best (or to try first)?

Safe root method worked beautifully. Thanks you both. My phone is now rooted.
My next mission is to figure out how to flash it back to factory specs (unroot), for when the day comes that I want to sell it (which is a long ways off ) and so that I can be sure I didn't put any malware on it from all the other failed attempts I made. One of those attempts involved booting to safe mode and loading a zip file from sd card. Though it failed, that attempt went pretty far. It actually wiped my phone and rebooted it. It looked like it may have applied some changes though there was some errors during the process and it did not root my phone.
If anyone can point me in the right direction or provide the link to the factory rom and process for doing it. I'm all ears

Hello everyone,
So, I have been doing quite a bit of reading and I am trying to figure out if my version of the Note 3 is a rootable device. I have the NC4 bootloader from KK 4.4.2, but I can't tell if people are working on this or just on new versions of the NC2 version.
Sorry if I am totally out of place here or there is already another thread on this issue.

First of all don't be scared posting a question the threads are pretty full of nonsense but as a noob you can't know everything (it's in the xda rules 2)
Second you need to state the model (n9005/n900t or like that) which you find in settings/general/about device as well as if you want to root keeping your phones guarantee or not.
@4aces
Thanks for your reassuring words. My Model is N900V and the Build VRUCNC4.
I am not really concerned with keeping my warranty, although it would be nice ... I just hope to find a reliable and safe method for rooting this device. I hear the Note 3 is a powerful tool when unrooted.

I had a rooted S3 SGH-I747 with Android 4.1.2. I sold it, and now I have a S4 SGH-i337 with Android 4.3.
I just want to root the phone, I am not interested in putting a custom ROM on it -- though maybe in the future.
Should I leave it at 4.3, or is it recommended to put a version of KitKat on it and then proceed to root it?
I did a quick software update check from the phone, but it said there were no updates. Does that mean I'm stuck at 4.3?
Thanks
Mike

So the S4 at 4.3 is not rootable, unless I use the nb1 rootable tar file to make it rootable, is that correct assumption?
Apparently I need to read more on the subject. I was hoping it would be as easy as it was on my S3. I guess the difference is that the S3 was rootable, while the S4 requires additional work to make it rootable. Of course correct me if i'm wrong, as I'm probably still not getting it.
Thanks

Thanks
Mike

Thanks for the link, it has helped tremendously!
Quick question, is the SIM card required during any of the flashing/rooting process? I didn't want to transfer my SIM from my working phone until I had my new replacement flashed and ready to go.
Thanks again

Can I reflash the same firmware over itself? I flashed my phone using the i337 nb1 rootable tar file you linked me to.
I ran into a problem, long story, it's in another thread I started.
Anyhow, everything was working and had it successfully rooted and my apps reinstalled. Now I'm locked out thanks to a glitch in a app called Unlock with WiFi. I have entered the wrong password 35 times and it still will not ask me if I want to reset/wipe the phone. Isn't it suppose to ask you after so many attempts?
The problem is I set a one letter password in the app, I mean it is convenient and the app allowed me too. Also it worked fine on my S3.
I did the same for the S4, but apparently with this firmware version, the lock screen doesn't like one letter passwords. If I type less than four characters and press enter, it erases what I typed. So it makes it impossible to enter my one letter password. If I type four characters or more, followed by return, I get Wrong Password.
At this point I give up, I just want to start over. I sent an email to the developer yesterday morning, but he has not responded.
Thanks again
Mike

I had a rooted S3 SGH-I747 with Android 4.1.2. I sold it, and now I have a S4 SGH-i337 with Android 4.3.
I just want to root the phone, I am not interested in putting a custom ROM on it -- though maybe in the future.
Should I leave it at 4.3, or is it recommended to put a version of KitKat on it and then proceed to root it?
I did a quick software update check from the phone, but it said there were no updates. Does that mean I'm stuck at 4.3?
Thanks
Mike

Latest firmware for At&t SGH-i337 is 4.4.2 not 4.3

I'm having the same problem anybody find any useful tools? I found a YouTube video from someone from XDA developers with a rooted straighttalk s5 but it was not the SM-S903VL and I tried exactly what he said and downloaded the required files tried to flash through ODIN and still nothing. It fails everytime. I have rooted many galaxy phones but on the t mobile network and am wondering if there is some kind of code modification that needs to be done like that of t mobile's. Please need help!

I've tried just about everyway of rooting this S5 from straighttalk but have had no luck, no other S5 root works. I believe this is the newest model and nobody has a working root yet. I really hope soon someone figures one out for the SM-S903VL on 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Come on developers!
Did you try downgrading to lp and using the root.bat method?

Umm, I'm fairly new to this, have down this a few times but in order to downgrade, don't you have to be ROOTed? I will have to look into doing this I guess. My problem is I just bought the phone brand new and it is my only phone. I have had much luck with other Galaxy S5s and Notes on other networks and am pretty familiar with ODIN so this was the first thing I tried. Could you explain a bit more the root.bat method? If it has to do with ADB, that doesn't seem to give me authorization when I connect it and use the adb devices command. It gives the serial number and says unauthorized. I have USB debugging enabled in the phone but still no luck with that either.
The first post in that thread I linked has directions. Read it carefully a few times. I don't know if it will work or not. The first step is to flash the pb1 firmware in that first post with the Odin version in that same post. If that works the rest probably will to. Read the section called 'installing pb1'

I will give it a try when I have a chance, however I'm in the same boat, a daughter and in the middle of a move. Thanks I really do appreciate it.

More on this?

Try it. It's for the g900v. The s903vl has the same fcc id as a verizion s5 with a busted digitizer I have,so I think it is a 900v just with straight talks firmware on it.

Unfourtunately, no joy. Couldn't downgrade to lollipop. Odin says auth-fail. If we can figure out how to downgrade than maybe that method will work. Anyone have any other ideas?

Kind of an update... just tried the newest version of srsroot (v5.1)and it went through as successful. But root checker says I'm not rooted. No more time to mess with it tonight.
