[Q] Custom Roms for GT-I9507 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I just got my Galaxy S4 GT-I9507 (optus AU) and noticed there is not much reference to it here.
Does anyone know if the guides for root, flashing etc are compatible with this model and if there are any limitations on loading a custom rom?
Thanks

I just received my 9507 this morning from Virgin (AU) (who use Optus network) as a replacement for my dead screen 9505.
Any luck with digging up more information? Have you tried flashing?

Anyone? Is there no root for the Galaxy S4 i9507? Would it work through Odin like it would i9505 as it has the same chipset?
Since no one replied, I decided to take a risk. I was able to root my i9507 with the CF-ROOT made for i9505. I will also risk installing a custom rom and get back to you with an update!

Yeh saw that post...
Did anyone else try it?

I was able to root, install CWM 6.0.3.2 and flash a CM 11 port using the same tools and techniques for the GT-I9505.

thanks for the info. any issues? anything that is not working?

Everything runs well, no issues.

What method did you use to root and install a custom recovery?
I'n trying to flash the cf auto chainfire using odin, but i'm being told off for there being no PIT file supposedly.
EDIT: Disregard that, the issue appears to be that I had my cable plugged into a USB 3.0 port.

Flashing any modem on this variant is next to impossible.
Flashing roms is fine, but i can't seem to flash any modems lol.

Same here all 4.4 roms lose signal as soon as I out the device to sleep. I need to reboot to get optus coverage again. I could not flash any modem. I think we need a 4.3 compatible modem to come out for the 9507

Hi,
I have been playing around with a few Roms some work most don't, The signal loss can be temp fixed by putting the mobile into Aircraft mode or turning off the data then re starting the programs.
Hopefully our i9507 Modem problem will be fixed soon (with the help of the genius`s on this forum)

I just received my I9507 today, it updated to 4.3 when I connected it to my WiFi.
I enabled Developer options by tapping on the build number...
I want to root it, but haven't tried anything else yet...
I have since rooted it by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577856

Are you getting the data dropouts like others stated?
Really want to root my gt-i9597 but worried the aus band will get lost ect.
Also what about knox or whatever that voids your warranty is there any way around that?

Hi
Tried some kit kat roms a while ago and had dropouts so I updated to stock JB.... 4.3. I haven't noticed any drop-outs since.
Knox is a hardware level issue. It cannot be reset and it will void your warranty. What I understand is that once
your phone is rooted the knox displayed when entering download mode goes from 0*1. Have a look at this thread to explain knox.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577856
And previous post for how to root...... Im assuming a typo i9597 is i9507
If you use a smart dock >>>I've had some issues with cpu temps and charging when docked in the smart dock.
cpu temps have been excess of 80c and not charging when the charge icon is displayed.
I used an aftermarket usb charger from jaycar and removed a usb extension cable to try to minimises voltage drop.
And also removed a heap of bloatware with android tuner. So far so good.

Thanks for heads with the thread replies Fella's, Thought I'd be stuck out in the world, with a a standard 4G samsung phone.. Eeeek!
Thanks for GTi9505 CF Root via odin... Couldnt be easier, and something in the setup reported it had disabled knox Too!
This Custom recovery worked for me!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397108
And I was able to get rid of the Optus Boot animation with this S5 animation... I was on 4.3 though,

Thought it may help someone to post here that the modem files for the GT-I9507 have been posted in this thread:

First use Motochopper to root so you can use Titanium Backup to freeze the bloat (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248 this one will work).
Then you can install Goomananger so you can install TWRP (menu=>install open recovery): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager
Finally, if you're feeling brave, you can do a backup of your phone first then try installing CyanogenMod: http://get.cm/?device=jfltecan
The Canadian model is jfltecan. Remember to install GAPPS (http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip)
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE.

unfortunately there is no firmware for (M) variant on the net. There is AT&T (USA) firmware, but for I337,
any way try to wipe cache via recovery.

Whats strange about it is the fact that right away, it had lag. I will try wiping the cache and will let you know.
I had an error when I tried wiping the cache.
Should I install a custom recovery as suggested earlier?

Someone else tried already. Apparently it will run. but without a Canadian modem to flash, there will be no network signal or wifi working.
When we have a modem to flash we should be OK.

Its SLIGHTLY better after clearing the cache via TWRP, but still lots of lag. Dont get it, from such a fast phone, there shouldnt be ANY lag! My Nexus 4 was SOO much smoother and faster (yet clearly not in benchmarks)

I too have an SGH-i337M (TELUS). Did you do the official update to build I337MVLUAMDJ? I had originally bought my phone on the unfinished I337MVLUAMDC and when I did the update a lot of the lag went away. However, I still had to freeze a lot of unwanted apps though settings > app manager, however I did come across a list of apps that were safe to remove/disable on the S3 (Some, not all are also found on the S4). You can see the list HERE.
Hopefully we'll see a list like this for the S4 soon.
[EDIT]
Also to note, I also came from a Nexus 4 and can definitely feel the difference as well, but the Nexus also didn't have bloatware running.

Mine came with the official build I337MVLUAMDJ and it was laggy as hell!
After rooting and removing lots of bloatware, it was still slow.
What cured my lag, was downloading the stock Firmware from Kies (and saving the file from temp folder, instead of using kies for the restore) and flashed it with odin. After restoring my backup from MyBackup Pro, its fast!
Why should we need to do all this work for a brand new phone. Good job Samsumg lol

Oh cool, I guess that works too lol. I managed to fix a majority of my lag after running a recovery script called "PalaTool" which was originally released for the Galaxy S III. The tool was designed to remove bloatware and allowed you to install optional UI changes and apps that could optimize things like Fast Dormancy, etc. Running the tool unfortunately doesn't remove the bloat, but it did with the Seeder Entropy Pool.

[Q][!]I think I may be bricked?

I rooted my device using the motochopper (thank djrbliss!) and all was going fine, until one day I rebooted my device and I couldn't boot to Android! Odin mode and recovery (Vol down and up, respectively) work, but when booting normally, the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo shows, and then fades to black. The phone is not off, because the blue LED comes on after about 30 seconds, and stays on. I thought I would go into recovery (Vol up) and choose factory reset. I did, but the problems stayed the same. I have the i337m (telus/koodo) and I thought I could download a stock image and flash via Kies or Odin, but can't find a Canadian dump! I don't want to flash an AT&T version because I'm afraid it may mess up my radio or lock the bootloader (I heard the bl was unlocked on 'm' variants) Please help!
EDIT: Not even Kies' Firmware upgrade and Initialization is working, it says "Please check the model name and enter it."
EDIT 2: Even Samsung's Call Centre rep. says to return it to the Koodo retailer.
EDIT 3: Finally! I installed TWRP via Odin, and CM 10.1 via TWRP. Now all I need is the stock Canadian recovery image.
Fixed. Mods please delete this thread.
ahhh man. this is scaring me a bit since no one really reported a brick. I dont recommend flashing anything but the version meant for you. hmmm might need to patiently wait a little. or try the international version but is your version the snap dragon or the octacore.

Have you tried using your own wifi (to make sure the problem comes from your phone and not from the 4G network) ? If the download works with your wifi but not with 4G, you can assume that your 4G provider is blocking p2p ports. Otherwise the problem probably comes from the configuration of your app.
Yes I have tried using my wifi and the same problem comes up I was able to download with wifi and without before rooting. It started right after I rooted the phone. I have tried different apps to download torrents with no success.

Use a system app uninstaller from the playstore (a red recyclebin logo app) and remove all knox related crap
if you dont want your knox warranty to trip.
If it has already tripped.. i.e. if you are running a custom recovery like cwm or philz
Then...let me see what xda has for you..
try this if you are running a custom recovery to deknox but read the thread first.

Perfectly good S4 (GT-I9500) rarely connects to cell service after OTA upgrade. Help!

Hi all, I have a GT-I9500 GSM (Iraqi firmware I9500XXUHPB3, 5.0.1) Galaxy S4 which I am using in the US on AT&T's network. Bought the phone secondhand and have been using it for years - worked absolutely perfect. A while back received an OTA upgrade notification and allowed it. Starting immediately afterwards, phone will rarely connect to the cell phone network (not even talking about data here, phone calls/SMS aren't working!). Once every few minutes to every few hours and shortly after reboot it will pick up the signal, but then within seconds it's back to no network connection.
The update installation was pretty quick so I'm not sure what actually got upgraded - I'm wondering if it was the modem? Anyway my question is: what would you suggest to a newbie when it comes to phones (with plenty IT experience in PCs) as a way to try fixing it? I'm perfectly fine with attempting to flash/root it, though I've never done it before, it seems like a straightforward enough process. However there doesn't seem to be a US firmware for this phone. I'm thinking Canadian firmware/modem might be the best way to go? Should I try the modem first, or firmware? I'd love to not have to replace this perfectly functioning (hardware-wise) phone if I can avoid it - don't have the funds for a replacement right now. Many thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I am becoming increasingly convinced that this is planned obsolescence. Your phone may have installed the same update without prompting. Needless to say my next phone will not be a Samsung.

No service after rooting

So I got this Note 3 as a gift from a relative. So I don't have much info on it. Apart from it having Vodafone Bloat pre-installed. I have the device on stock rom Android version 4.4.2, and NG1 baseband. So I tried rooting with CF-autoroot and it successfully rooted but unfortunately ever since I rooted it, there's no network. It reads the sim, but it doesn't register to any network. I also installed Xposed right after rooting before realizing the issue when trying to download modules (since samsung has a bad habit of showing me network bars even without a sim)
So now I'm in dire need of a solution since this is my only working phone at the moment and I'll be leaving tomorrow for Eid at a relative's house where I won't have my PC.
I've looked around in the forums but there's no definite solution. No, I didn't flash stock back yet. I'll have to wait till 12AM when my ISP doubles my speed. But any tinkering I can do now?

I will try that!
