[Q] WARNING: NEW USER w/ NC4 question - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
So, I have been doing quite a bit of reading and I am trying to figure out if my version of the Note 3 is a rootable device. I have the NC4 bootloader from KK 4.4.2, but I can't tell if people are working on this or just on new versions of the NC2 version.
Sorry if I am totally out of place here or there is already another thread on this issue.
Much obliged,
Austin

First of all don't be scared posting a question the threads are pretty full of nonsense but as a noob you can't know everything (it's in the xda rules 2)
Second you need to state the model (n9005/n900t or like that) which you find in settings/general/about device as well as if you want to root keeping your phones guarantee or not.

@4aces
Thanks for your reassuring words. My Model is N900V and the Build VRUCNC4.
I am not really concerned with keeping my warranty, although it would be nice ... I just hope to find a reliable and safe method for rooting this device. I hear the Note 3 is a powerful tool when unrooted.

Is there a way to downgrade from 4.4.2 into 4.3 in the near future?

Hi guys. Ive been reading a lot about this one. And i find it very imposible to do right now. I saw some thread here regarding to this one that im posting right now. So my main concern is is there a way to downgrade this kitkat into jellybean? Put aside note 3 for now. Does it work on other phones as well? Because i really dont like the new kitkat and i want to go back from 4.3. Yeah yeah i did some research regarding to this because of the new bootloader. I really hope that we can be able to downgrade.

No... Samsung give out updates, they don't expect you to downgrade.... Besides, the upgrades are supposed to add performance and remove security exploits.... Why would they allow you to go back to something that's not so well protected and possibly damage your device that then gets fixed under warranty....
Yes officially. You can't downgrade. But im asking is there a way or in the near future that we can go back to jellybean? Again lets put aside note 3 for now since it is still new. Lets think.... Note 2! For example i updated to 4.4.X as well. Can i go back to 4.2.1?
God almighty. .why would you want to. ..who wants to go backwords. ..If you do...why did you go forwards. .I loved the escort mark 2 but I sure as hell wouldn't swap my focus for one... (the only way this might not apply is with women lol)

NO, for the 10000000th time. Please learn to read before posting next time, thank you.
Mate for the 10000000th time, everyone read your question and is trying to explain that downgrading the software of a smartphone is stupid. Especially true for the Note 3, 4.3 to 4.4.
The only reason you might want to downgrade, is that you want to put CM on your device. In which case ask so. It is unlikely that you will be able to downgrade, more likely CM will get support for the new BL
Its a fair enough question to ask. I would also like a dafe way to downgrade to install things like CM. IMO its a control thing. One that I dont like. But it is what it is.

By the way. May it is possible. Not right atm but in near future. We have to get the correct fast boot access to unlock the bootloader. Then we have to flash a file called flashall. This file is already under construction by myself but it's tricky. After this file flashed successfully we are able to flash an original bootloader from former rom.
So u see its possible. Only have to wait for a dev or anybody else who can give me fast boot access.

Let's just be calm about this I agree we won't be seeing official downgranding but for one I would downgrade to 4.3. Android is all about choices and preferences that is one of the differences from ios we get to choose customize down to the bone...Why something older and propably not better some people have their reasons. Some people prefer that old chevy or challenger from a new mercedes I don't know. I for one miss lights effect from 4.3 the lockscreen effect. I was on stock rom unrooted and it had this effect then rooted upgraded to 4.4.2 poland and it didn't have it got a little disapointed. I agree that 4.4.2 is a better os and also agree that my reason for wanting to downgrade is somewhat stupid but that's the beauty of android from the start you get it exactly how you want it today in the world of android os we are made unable to downgrade tomorrow who knows? The liberty of choice in this os is getting smaller and smaller day by day...
Ok ok
Um
No
U
Can
Not
Do
It.
Y??
It's a permanent change to the bootloader that cannot be downgraded.
If that's hard to understand then I don't know what to tell you.

There are more reasons to downgrade. After upgrading to KitKat my phone is messed up bad. I got reboots all the time now. I never rooted, I never installed ROMS. All is plain stock. If someone would offer me a working downgrade I would even consider paying this person for it. My phone is unreliable right now.

Consensus seems to be that you can't downgrade the Samsung Note 3 kit kat bootloader, which prevents downgrade to Jelly bean .
On other makes, e.g HTC it is possible to downgrade bootloader and Android, providing you've got S Off

But I am not suggest you to do it, even though i want to do it as I feel kitkat battery life is getting worst.

I believe OP didn't try to ask same question a millionth time. What he tried to ask was, will there be a method to downgrade to JB? If that's the case it's very unlikely. In theory of course software changes can be reversed but sometimes it needs some hacking and I don't think anyone will think it's worth the effort.

[Q] NC4 Root Progress?

I own a SM-N900V on NC4 and I've read that a root method for NC4 does not exist yet. Is there a place where progress is given/notified on when this will be completed?

Someone will make a new thread when anything is discovered. Youll prolly be waiting a long time
Please allow me to rephrase the question....is root for nc4 for us who took the ota update without ever being rooted ever going to be available given the fact that most users already have a rooted device before being on nc4? Is *anyone* even working on it at all? or should we just give up all hope and not even bother given the fact that it is only a handful of us w/o root on nc4 that for whatever reason we took the plunge knowing the consequences of possibly not having root for a while if ever at all?

it may be never is the rumor but you never know.
for example the bounty for root for the S5 is currently at around $15,000 and no takers so that speaks to the depth of the situation.

I would not get your hopes up anytime soon, this is why I stayed on NC2 and disabled OTA's after reading the psa by hashcode.
Thanks for this thread! I'm also hoping for a root for NC4 some day... I just ordered a Note 3 (should come in the mail today), but I think it'll have NC4 on it. I didn't research enough, first, to be sure I was getting a phone that could be rooted.
bounty has reached almost $18,000 just for root so you can be assured its getting worked on but also how hard it must be for such a bounty to exist.
here is the bounty thread if you want to add to the money pile

That appears to be a bounty for the S5 root... Is there an official bounty for the Note 3 NC4 root?
Are are the two very closely related? (as in, if there was a root method for the S5, then could we expect a root method for the Note 3 to quickly follow? If so, then maybe a bounty for the Note 3 wouldn't be necessary)
Is there any way to switch to NC2? Or do we have to stay on NC4?

[Extremely Confused] Rooting the T-Mobile Galaxy S5 and flashing Cyanogenmod 12.1

Hi I recently got a T-Mobile Galaxy S5 and I despise Touchwiz. It looks ugly and more importantly it makes my phone extremely sluggish (it feels like my Moto G when it would run out of RAM). I want to root and put a ROM that's as near stock as possible (I'm assuming CM12.1 is the best option for that) but I haven't rooted since the Galaxy S2 so all the information I'm reading is super overwhelming. All these stickied posts seem rather outdated coming from like 2014 and such. I'm on 5.1.1 and I honestly just want as lagfree of an experience as possible. Can someone here please help me acheive this? I've been researching for 2 weeks now and I'm horribly confused. I keep reading about custom kernels and all that but all I want is my phone to not suck.
You'll get more answers in the correct forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/help
Have you tried a different Launcher first though? TouchWiz Launcher is terrible, Nova Launcher is what a lot of people use, myself too, super fast, smooth with 100x more customisation options

I'm not rooted. I'm confused because when I try to figure out how to root and flash my phone all I see is a bunch of different guides and I'm not sure which is the one I should do.
Not sure if the T-Mobile bootloader is locked, I know the Verizon one is, and another US carrier, if it is locked, it's a PITA
If it's not, flash CF Auto Root for the G900F with ODIN

Was the same for me when I got mine, I spent 2-3 weeks reading every single thread I could before I decided I knew enough to root and be confident I wasn't going to brick it
And that was after I was already well experienced with Android, just a different device
Don't try taking shortcuts is my advice, asking for help and guides is one thing, but reading absolutely everything you can first is the only sure way to not kill your phone

Verizon Galaxy s5, I'm new to rooting. What should I know?

I know the s6 is out, an I bought a S5. I'm arriving fashionably late to this rooting thing.
I have never rooted any of my devices ever, and by what I here.. Shame on me.
I need to get the most outta my phone and clean it up from factory crap. I love the ability to customize my phone, but I have no clue where to start.
An very nervous of "bricking?" my phone or messing it up. I'm tech savvy so I think it wont be to hard...? What would I be able to do with my phone when it is rooted? Will it void my warranty and can it ever go back? I remember when I first heard about rooting and people where "Bricking" phones left and right... Kinda the reason I never ventured into rooting. Well I put my big boy pants on and ready to go.. lol I would appreciate any help.
More than likely you purchased your phone already running lollipop, and if so, you can't root. Not yet, anyway.

Like the OP I, too, just bought an S5 but I bought it from a guy, NOT from Verizon. SO it's running Android 5.0 already. That's Lollipop, right?
Even though I have used Android for years I don't know all the terms (and am new to the XDA site). Is there a FAQ or something listing the basic stuff?
I got my old phone repaired -- a Samsung S3 running Android 4.4.2 -- so I presume it will be easier to learn to root, and I might want to start there.
UPDATE -- partly answering my own question by going to the xda-developers.com homepage and then scrolling to the bottom to see "root any device." I can see I still have a lot to learn, but there's some good info there

Bootloader is locked and there are no known vulnerabilities that would allow root. I doubt anyone is working on a root process considering how tightly locked down the bootloader is.

So you read in these forums that the S5 5.0 cannot be rooted, but then you ask if anyone knows how to root it. Trust me, if someone had figured out how to root 5.0 on the S5 it would be very prominent in these forums. No one knows how to root 5.0 builds of OE1 or newer on the Verizon S5. Not sure how much clearer that can be stated like it was earlier in this thread.

sorry friend, you picked one of the worst development phones. nothing yet. Im hoping someday but its not looking great. My advice, find someone to trade their Tmobile note 4 for your VZW one. Thats what Im trying to do
ebay rooted ones?
I thought Tmobile note 4 wouldn't work on VZW? with custom ROM?
Saw some rooted Verizon Note 4 on eBay. I wonder if those were rooted before VZW locked the bootloader.
