Gear Live won't turn screen off - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm having an issue with my Gear Live : sometimes the screen won't turn off (or dim) by itself. when I stop using it it will just dim slightly but still display the whole watch face and not get as dark as when it dims properly. It seems to happen randomly after I use it (with an "OK google" command or something) and then it will only turn off if I use the button or cover the screen. From the moment it starts acting up, it will never turn off automatically untill I reboot the watch...
Has any one else experienced this, or even have a solution ?
I hoped today's update would fix the problem but it didn't, so it keeps happily eating all the battery if I don't pay attention.
Thanks.

My wife and I each have a Gear Live. We've experienced this problem repeatedly over the last 2 years. Restarting the watch fixes the problem temporarily. Sometimes the problem will go away for months on end. Other times it happens over and for over days. I'm guessing it's some kind of hardware fluke on the Gear Live.

Sense Keeps Crashing

im wondering if its just me..
most times, when the phone comes out of sleep, after i slide to unlock, it just hangs. i dont even get to see the clock, sometimes, it just shows a black screen, and sometimes, all i see is the lock screen..stuck.
i can push the start button, and it would work as normal, but i cant go home.. and everything else related to sense...music, settings, message, ..just crashes.
i always have to reboot phone to get it back to normal.
could there be something making it crash? ..and does it happen to anyone else?
yes it happens to me from time to time. sometime HD2 just lies on my desk and 'fall asleep'... cannot turn on the screen though all the buttons light up.
when this happens i have to call from my HD to turn HD2 on and when it's on, it's unstable, and i have to reboot it.
same problem
I have exactly the same problem. it just crashes for no reason. sometimes when WiFi is on. sometimes after I synchronize. sometimes if only plugged out of the charger.
it was in version 1.48 and kept happening even after I upgraded to 1.66
I hope this has a fix or something or atleast a way to restart sense because the Windows button works, phone works, except the volume, the turn off and the settings in the start menu..
help!
thank you in advance.
Same problem here. Freezes at the lock screen and the lights appear from the buttons. Occurring with worrying frequency now. Twice in the last three days. Any ideas?
folks, do report your issues here .. i have a feeling that this is a known hardware issue by HTC and they are just keeping veru quiet about this.

[TEST] touch screen/calibration issues... may have figured some things out?

Ok, so over the course of time I have owned my phone I think I may have found one of the reasons for the phone to go out of calibration in terms of touch accuracy but I just want to make sure its not just my phone doing it.
What I have noticed is that if I hold my phone at an awkward angle for a few minutes (typically 5ish minutes) the calibration will go out of whack. This notoriously happens when I have my phone in navigation mode and just laying on my lap (landscape mode). Today I was driving and I got a text mid way to where I was going so I picked the phone up to hit the talk-to-text button (which is really nice for texting while driving by the way) and it was out of calibration, could not hit the button to save my life. Similar has happened when I held the phone at an awkward angle while watching a movie laying in bed. So I would like to see if anyone gets similar results holding the phone at an awkward angle for a few minutes, I would say give it 5-10 minutes for an accurate result. Try doing things like holding it literally upside down while its in landscape mode and then switching it back to portrait and type on the small keyboard again. I would go into a program of some sort that you can test touching all areas of the screen with.
Now, it seems like before the OTA update, I would have to reset the phone and sometimes that wouldnt work still. However now (and I have tested multiple times with consistent results) that if you lock the phone and then unlock it, the calibration seems to be adjusted again.
Let me know your results.
**For the record, I have had a very positive experience with this phone since I purchased it but I have been able to replicate the "touch screen issue" many a times and would just like to get to the bottom of the issue if all else to just avoid it or tell others how to avoid it happening to them because it is quite annoying.
it sounds like a software hiccup i would hope it would be getting patched sometime..... but as of now i dont know of anyone that's got a fix for it. i have the problem from time to time but i just lock and unlock and its fine, kind of annoying but not something that makes me want to throw it out the window or anything.
Judging from the behavior, I'll place my bets on it being a software issue rather than hardware. There seems to be some hiccups between the accelerometer and the screen getting confused about angles/tilting.
didnt happen to me before upgrade. Its happened a couple of times since.
My phone had been on charge and I had changed to setting to disable it from sleeping while on charge. I had turned the screen off but it must have woke up I went to use it and couldnt hit any keys.
I thought it may be something to do with it being awake for a long time - but it could be coincidence.
I can confirm that putting the phone to sleep and waking it fixes the problem
I have the same issue. No problem before OTA and described problem after that. Grrr.
Mmm, I experienced the problem both before and after the OTA, so I dunno.
Good to know that you can just sleep the phone and then wake it back up to fix the issue now. You used to have to reboot.
I have not had the issue at all since removing live wallpapers. Maybe just a coincidence.
Do people using custom ROMS have these issues?
Ok, so there are similar results out there then and sounds like 100% confirmed just locking and relocking recalibrates the phone back into proper order, no more full reboot is needed.
For the record, I am not using a live wall paper, I have not rooted or installed any themes or anything so my phone is all stock besides the OTA update. Also, as someone else stated that you used to have to restart your phone before the update and I experienced the same thing but again now I only have to lock and unlock the phone for it to recalibrate.
Grainysand you and I seem to have had similar "issues" if you even want to call them that with before and after the OTA and I share your view that there is an issue between the accelerometer and the software recognition.
It's definitely the accelerometer. For the record, I've never had to either reboot or relock/unlock the screen to fix this. I hold the phone upright and it corrects itself, though sometimes it recurs.
I've noticed this a few times after the ota, but just turned it off/on to fix.

Same here. Usually when in landscape mode and the device is tipped at a 45 degree angle. I've also seen the N1 (when using the browser in landscape) scroll the page back and forth very quickly (about 1/4"). When this happen the device seems to get 'stuck' in landscape mode even when I flip it back to portrait.
After the ERE27 update, I've only really noticed the issue when I've plugged in the charger.

now that I think about it, I must say that most of the time I see this happening it has been on the charger... will test later though, i doubt this would effect the issue
I think it has something to do with live wallpapers, the ones that receive input touch to react in some way or another. Its a software issue.
You could put it to sleep and on wake up its ok.
Or you could touch the buttons slightly to the right.

no its not the live wall papers... I have tested both with and without live wall papers and I can produce identical results as far as loss of calibration
Not sure if its the same problem but when playing games sometimes, the isnput locks up sometimes when in landscape mode. However rotating the phone between landscape & portrait mode seems to fix the problem, might help for this too.

It's an inherent issue with some displays present on the Moto G4. It most often happens when you charge your phone. Too much current builds into the frame of the display and you get weird ghost and jitter touches.
No way around it unless you send it in, and even then it may be only a temporary fix.
I also face this issue. Unable to find solid solution for this. Finally i decied to go for custom rom like RR and Invicta. This still comes occasionally(when Heats too much during phone charging)

On my phone this happens while not charging. Seems to happen about one out of every 3 times the phone is unlocked using the fingerprint sensor. Locking the screen and unlocking via a pin seems to be a reliable way of getting past the issue. Though occasionally it happens on the pin entry screen before it the pin has been entered. Needless to say, it IS annoying.
Same problem which is fixed.
I had this problem with the factory firmware too, intermittent bouts of the phone going crazy with phantom touches on my Moto G4. I sent it to Motorola/Lenovo after the supplier gave me their phone number and they did find the problem and fix it. Now I can play graphic intensive games even during fast charge and the phone is awesome for once. : )
Please note they will fix it for free if in warranty and bootloader not yet modified.
Pressing power button to turn off the display and then pressing power button again to turn the display back on will provide temporary relief from jittery screen. I noticed that the jittery screen has twice subsided over time but came back twice immediately after OS upgrade so blaming the problem on charging, or hardware doesn't seem accurate.
Updated 5/20/2018
As a last ditch effort prior to buying a replacement phone I deleted all apps I installed, reset phone and reinstalled fresh copies of most if the apps I needed.
I don't recall every thing I did but my focus was to delete everything I could and then reset phone back to factory state. After reinstalling, my jittery problem went away and has not returned. Your millage may very, so no promises. Phil

phone going crazy
Hi,
I am having the same exact problem. I have observed that Google Assistant is intruding because each time this happens, Google Assistant is trying to run. Reboot is a temporary fix but the problem persists. I have removed most of the third party apps just to see if anything changes but it did not work.
This is not something that was happening from the start. I have the phone for about 2 months put the problem only started a couple weeks ago. I would love to hear if there is a solution and what. Thanks
Sadly, but compared to the issues visible indoors, in outdoors this Lenovo gift turns complete crap:
youtu.be/dTcHclVEfCg
"Lenovo Moto Z2 Force touchscreen gets completely unusable when getting outdoors! The video is made at about 0 degrees Celsius. So it takes about 30 sec from getting MotoZ2 Frc to sleep with pwr btn (and wakeing up back) to see the touchscreen goes crazy. At -10C, it takes ~5 sec. At +15-20C, after several min it becomes unresponsive and have to use pwr button to recover.
Lenovo, what you have done to Motorola ?!!"
Can it be fixed somehow with changing the upper protective part? I have seen comments that the touchscreen can stop working completely, if peel off the cover part..

Phone freezes from time to time

Ok, lately having some weird behaviour and wonder if anyone else is suffering this. Sometimes when I get a notificationad try to unlock the screen it just stays black. It seems to still work but the screen isn not showing anything, only thing I can do is to hard reset it by holding the pwoer button after a restart it behaves normal again... Tried factory resetting it but no change... Anythign else I could try?

That is because you have turned on the Ambien screen. But I have problems with the proximity sensor and too much time the apps stoped and some things like that

Yeah, I am having similar issue too. My Mi A1 is now getting lagging now. Really disappointed, because its getting worst day by day.
True.. My ambient display is disabled and still i face regular (atleast once a day, sometimes more) freezes.. Only a reboot can recover the device.. Really irritating!
you are right, esp if you try to open within a few second upon whatsapp message arriv

you are right, esp if you try to open within a few second upon whatsapp message arrives (through fingerprint), the screen becomes unresponsive but phone works on background. Happened quite a few times now, somehow I would find approx. where could be the restart button and press for restart, quite strange, don't know what to do?!!!
I experience this issue only once (when I tried enabling Ambient display). With Ambient display off, I didn't have a single freeze or app crash. I reboot phone every few days due to updated Magisk/Xposed modules, maybe it helps a bit..?
Since the November update I am also getting freezes and some lag, which is very disappointing. So you are saying that if I turn of ambient display it will take care of the random freezing?
Cheers

Touch to show doesn't work sometimes.

Anyone else see this? Usually works that all of a sudden I need to press the power button to turn the phone on.
I think I have found the issue.
I believe it's pocket mode and the sensor stops reading and thinks it's covered
Yeah. It happens to me every so often. See this thread, https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/help/lock-screen-freezes-t3869001. It was really starting to get bad when I was on 9.0.6. Sometimes even hitting the power button wouldn't wake it immediately. I'd have to hit it a few times, which would then trigger the camera. Since I updated to 9.0.7, it hasn't happened as frequently, maybe only a couple of times. I hadn't considered it possibly being related to pocket mode since I notice it mostly when I pick up the phone off of my desk.

Yeah I take the pocket mode comment back. I only noticed it happening the device was covered but it has happened the times within two days where the device is out on my desk. I can't find a cause or pattern it's just annoying.
