[Q] Section of screen not responding to touch after screen replacement (video) - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dropped my phone and the whole screen became unresponsive. I ordered this OEM replacement on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/390871330961?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 and installed the screen following this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Lkcg8g3i1s
(Note: I also replaced the bezel/chasis to the phone also while I had the phone open)
After replacing the screen I noticed that a horizontal strip at the bottom of the phone (above the soft keys) is not responding to touch at all. I did a factory reset on the phone and I'm still having this issue. I'm inclined to believe it is a hardware issue.
Any idea what else I can try? I need my phone functioning asap and would rather not return the screen and wait for another.

Use a multitouch test app to be sure that this region is not responsive. If so, than this is highly a hardware issue. Nothing you can do on software side.
What I also have in mind is that you may have installed the screen and the digitizer improperly.

Can you recommend me an app?
The digitizer and LCD came as one piece so I don't think there is an issue there. I'll open up the phone and re-install the connection for the screen/digitizer again and see if that does anything

'Yet Another Multitouch Test' by Real Fiction Factory. I am using that one and it does what it should.

Ugh, I can't even install apps. After factory resetting I wasn't able to sign in with a google account because the portion of the screen where the "@" and "." symbol is located is unresponsive. So I am not able to access the play store.
Any other idea of options?

touch screen not working

So my touch screen hasn't been responsive for the last few days. It's only partially responsive sometimes and not at all others. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it? If not does anyone know if this would count as a manufacturer defect and I fould get it replaced?
For how long have you had it? It should go under warranty.

Is your phone overclocked? Or even rooted?

I'm having a touchscreen issue too. However it only occurs when keyboard has been flipped out. The entire screen's touch capability does not work, including the touch buttons search, back, menu and home. If you close the screen over the keyboard even a little bit. The touchscreen works perfectly. Even if you then flip it all the way back out again it works, until you close and open it again.
Anyone experienced this? Or have an idea if this should just be replaced under warranty?

Sounds like a classic case of bad ribbon cable.
If you are under warranty, replace it. If not, it could be something as simple as replacing the cable the connects the two halves of the phone together.

Been a week now, do you know roughly how long it takes for a HTC repair? Falling back to an old hero isn't great, but at least I have a phone

Did I break it? Touch Screen issues.

So I had to replace my ear speaker on my atrix. That went well but when I put it back together I lost the ability to hit the 2,w,s,x&z keys on the keyboard when the phone is held upright.
I've taken it apparent and put it back together again to no avail
Any suggestions on what to try to fix it?
It does sound like it is hardware related. I assume that this patch of screen doesn't function at all on other apps (not the keyboard)? Try a touch test app on the market and see if it recognizes the touch on the broken bit of the screen
Thats the odd thing, with the mutlitouch tester app you can click and then drag over to that area and there is a line where it won't cross but you can get close.
I must have bumped or scratched something internally, the screen itself is fine.
sounds like the fragile digitizer ribbon had been riped

Yeah if that is the case, i'm afraid that it broken and you'll need a new digitizer, sorry
Had SAME exact issue. And when I had it in lanscape mode it the backspace button didnt work either. I got it replaced yesterday under warranty

I went in and they did the same for me WOOT!
They noticed that it was rooted and said 6 days ago they would have told me I was SOL but they got an email from somebody at AT&T that said root didn't matter I guess.
I did have another rom on my phone which they didn't say anything about?

Some help trying to fix a Motorola Defy?

Hello, I have a Motorola Defy, that I dropped a few times, so the LCD screen got damaged with blue dots on it, I made a mistake and thought that the problem was on the touch Screen, so I purchased a replacement, installed but, it was damaged, the touch did not respond correctly, I wasn't able to type correctly among other problems.
I got a refund, then ordered a LCD screen replacement, now that I have it here, I install it, and it's broken:crying: I know, bad luck and being a rookie while trying to fix my phone, ok, I put back my old (damaged) LCD screen to use it in the meantime, and the old touch screen, but now, the old touch screen that was supposed to being working fine, it doesn't, it has the same problem as the touch screen that I bought.
Question is: the problem with the touch screen, could be related to the damaged LCD screen? or the motherboard of the phone is damaged? the phone works great, the apps, the games, everything but the touch screen and the LCD screen, but, as I said, I went back to the default touch screen after using the damaged one that I received, and it works worse I don't know what's wrong, please help me out, sorry for the long post
Please post questions in the Q&A section. Moved there.

Is this true?
true. fix some minor dead pixel if you put in freezer for one day. but your case... im dont hope much.
Try changing LCD + Capacitive Digitizer. (after trying the freezer trick ofcourse)
Well i will tell my story, which is related to your's as well,
i had a phone with resistive touch screen and it got screwed up, that is it does not respond correctly. So, i took it to the service center and they replaced the digitizer (touch screen) saying that previous one is broken. But, luckily the new one didn't responded to any touches they make. So, they replaced it again with the old one quoting that "your phone can't be repaired". So, i took it home with me.
Later i thought to calibrate the screen but the old one is not responding any more, no matter where i press
Later i calibrate it with the help of a software for windows mobile with the help of a PC. It took me to the calibration screen, from where i calibrated it, and voila, it worked... as good as a new one :victory:
long story short,
i think when you disconnected your digitizer, phones default values/drivers got messed up and are unable to find the new or the old digitizer you connect. I suggest you to go to the service center as these screens can not be calibrated.
Is there NO WAY at all to recalibrate the screen from the phone itself? or using an application? the delicalibration might be the problem....I'd like to fix it myself :/ thanks for the tip, never heard about it before!!

I replaced my original digitizer screen for the one I ordered it, it gave me problems, so I went back to the original one, which was working fine, and now it's not fully responding, that's why I'm assuming is something calibration related, thanks!

Nexus 6P screen no responsive, is it hardware or software?

Hey guys, so a few months ago I dropped my phone and the screen cracked, and I had a local repair place replace the screen for me. Well, the other day, my screen decided to no longer respond to touch but the phone is working fine besides that. (Oddly, when I first turn the phone off and back on, the screen will respond for a few minutes before no longer working.) I took the phone in the place that repaired the screen (they have a lifetime warranty) and they said that they put a new screen on and it still didn't work, so it wasn't the screen and suggested that it was a software issue. I factory reset my phone, and still have the same issue. A few questions:
1. Are they lying?
2. If not, if it's another piece of hardware, will Google warranty the phone since it's within a year, even though the screen has been replaced?
3. I've searched online to see if anyone else has had this problem, and nothing seems to be related to hardware, is it possible that it's software and if so, how do I fix it?
Thanks!

I would go to dev options and enable pointer location, and see if the information is what it should be.
Could be a grounding issue, the n5x has this issue while charging, the fingerprint required more pressure too.
Backup your ROM and flash Google's image,

Yes, I currently work for a cellular services company and it's the one that we constantly recommend because we hear good reviews from customers about them.
Thanks for your help so far!

LG V20 Touch Screen acting up any fixes?

Theirs probably little to no support for my phone here anymore but my screen is acting up in a way that makes the phone nearly useless, if for example I tap on an app to open it, the phone will think my finger is still there and act as a long press to move the app to another location when I just press and release to open the app, typing is a nightmare, If I type something then need to backspace itll hold the backspace and delete everything I type, I'm really hoping it's not the digitizer and hopefully it's just a software issue that I can fix by rooting and running lineage or something on it. I am not using a screen protector and the screen is not cracked or chipped, this is how the phone was when I got it and I would much rather use the v20 than my A10e, I really hate my a10e lmao. Any help would be greatly appreciated! PS: Ive already tried a full reset and that did not fix the issue, thanks!

Sounds like a hardware issue

Are you using a case?
Is your usb port dirty?
Hidden water damage?
Is the battery swollen (bulged)? Try using it without the back cover on.
Try running in safe mode to see if any user app is interfering.
Those are my only thoughts besides a hardware issue as mentioned above.

Im not using a case, and this thing has never seen water in its life lol, battery is fine and fits normal, I tried it without the cover and it didn't change anything. i put it in safe mode and still the same thing, im afraid its the digitizer so im going to replace it and see if that fixes it, if not im going to just trash the phone lmao.
