So my touch screen hasn't been responsive for the last few days. It's only partially responsive sometimes and not at all others. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it? If not does anyone know if this would count as a manufacturer defect and I fould get it replaced?
For how long have you had it? It should go under warranty.

Is your phone overclocked? Or even rooted?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I'm having a touchscreen issue too. However it only occurs when keyboard has been flipped out. The entire screen's touch capability does not work, including the touch buttons search, back, menu and home. If you close the screen over the keyboard even a little bit. The touchscreen works perfectly. Even if you then flip it all the way back out again it works, until you close and open it again.
Anyone experienced this? Or have an idea if this should just be replaced under warranty?

Sounds like a classic case of bad ribbon cable.
If you are under warranty, replace it. If not, it could be something as simple as replacing the cable the connects the two halves of the phone together.

Been a week now, do you know roughly how long it takes for a HTC repair? Falling back to an old hero isn't great, but at least I have a phone

Mmmm. Tricky perhaps. A hard reset will either cure or leave you stuck. If you hard reset and the screen is indeed dead (touch wise) then you'll never get past the alignment stage. If the touch issue is software related then you would be sorted with the hard reset.
A gamble I think!!
However you are stuck at the moment so in a sense you have nothing to lose. If it ends up being useless then you are faced with a warranty (hopefully) repair otherwise some DIY though it's not entirely obvious what has broken/come loose - possibly just a ribbon connector.

Yeah i think its that as well, i hard reseted it a few times with no effect, in the begining of the day, it could still reconise the screen taps around 2/3 times before it totally went dead.
Are there any tutorials on how to open it up to check the ribbon?
Thanks.
This maybe the hardware problem with the mainboard itself. I read about this on here a few times, most people had the get their phones exchange....

Yes, I am equally unsure that this is just a simple loose connector. It may be, but it appears to be fine for a short while and only then goes off.
Like you myztikal47, I suggest going for warranty replacement if at all possible. Only if you have no warranty shuld you attempt a repair yourself - this is a notoriously ellusive fix and indeed I would say there is no 100% works for all answer. Certainly do not assume it's the screen - most probably it isn't and you'll waste your money.
There are dismantling links in this forum - but you'll find them on my small Hermes site http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com- go to the loose keyboard section and you'll see the links.

Anyone here experiencing the same problem? At first I thought that was normal, but at some point the touch screen worked while the slider was open and I was really happy with it but now, it no longer works what gives?
am i the only one experiencing this? do you think a ROM upgrade can fix this?
Sometimes (very rarely) the screen doesnt come on and I have to reset, but nothing like you descrived, sorry...
aw! i guess i have an isolated case. thanks twolf!
it's a screen cable problem. just fix it
last week, i had the same proplem. So i sent it to the guarantee service. They replaced the cable, which is connecting the screen with mainboard.
too bad my phone doesn't come with warranty. thanks for the info guys
my phone has the same problem, and I had used many roms, and all of them have the same problem.
my screen isen't working when the keybord is closed,

it is hardware problem. sent my device to service center and they changed the board for free since it is still under warranty. they said it was wear and tear. so it is only matter of time before the new board suffers from wearing out again. unless stop using the sliding keyboard, but tat's the main selling point touch dual is built for =\
how much is the cable $$ connecting the lcd to the boarD?
my niki is out of warranty............can any mobile phone repair shop fix it ?

If you google around you'll see this is quite a common complaint with the Touch Dual. There seems to be a certain flaw with the screen and cable which was never addressed. I had the exact same problem & eventually sent the phone back to HTC to be fixed.
Be warned though - HTC would not fix my phone eventhough it was still under warranty. They said the problem was due to User Mis-Use. My ass it was. I argued it out with them but in the end I just paid the UK£60 to get it fixed - robbing bastards!
You all seem to think it's a hardware issue, and I'm experiencing the same issue, but only under Windows Mobile (I've tried both 6.1 and 6.5 - all sorts of various roms). Android on the other hand, works fine. :/
EDIT:
Well now it's working on Windows too. After I ran Android... SO GIVE THAT A SHOT I GUESS. o.o
Hi
I've got the same problem it's starting to piss me off.. :[email protected]
1) screen doesn't work when slider is opened
2) screen doesn't work at all at times but works again after ....??? xx hours or so.
My warranty has ended, any tips?
Upgraded Windows Mobile to official WM6.1 from HTC.com website.

i came in here to say the same thing.. weird. works fine in android.............
another thing worth noting is that if you keep a finger on the screen while sliding it seems to work everytime
My Niki has the same problem, when slide is open i cannot use the "send" button on the touch screen - so i have to close the slide, to send a SMS.
I bought a HTC Snap now, so my NIKI just lies in the drawer...
Sad, i like the Screen resolution and Rom software on the Niki better than the HTC Snap.
At http://www.ppctechs.com/HTC-Nike_1047/repairs.htm you can buy a HTC Nike ToolKit with special screwdrivers, maybe the cable just needs to be aligned properly, or fixed in a socket...
Has anyone tried to fix it themselves?
guys,
I had the same problem. In fact, my touch screen was totally not working at all. Some threat recon it's loosen cable so i opened my touch dual and tighten the lcd flex cable. It worked after that, but not working when slide is open. I've just changed the flex cable myself and it's working fine now. hope this help.

could you guide me how to fix it? I'm having this problem as well.
Do you have any kind of link as to how to open the niki, screws, cable, where to look etc...?

So today my Titan started acting up. When I slide the keyboard out the screen freezes. I can still type by nothing will show up on the screen until I close the keyboard.
Also If I hold the keyboard halfway slid out the phone will work normally(but can't type with half the keys), however once I go past a certain point the screen freezes?
Hardware or software issue? I'm debating a reflash.
I can see these thin metal wires inbetween the keyboard and screen when I slide it out, I wonder if it has something do do with these.
Well the reflash didn't work. I took the phone apart and still can't figure out the issue. Seems like it might be with one of the cables connecting to the LCD screen.

I have literally the same EXACT problem. Have you gone to WM 6.5 beta yet by any chance? I started having the problem and numerous others when I went to 6.5. Idk, if you figure it out please tell me. I will be trying to fix the problem too.
Well, I have found the reason why mine wasn't working properly. My flex cable attached to the screen that goes to the actually phone motherboard is ripped. Would anyone happen to have one??? I can't find any on the internet. I have searched everywhere. Please help. Thank you!

Hello Gents and Gals. I am trying to fix my friends HD2, I flashed his ROM with Energy couple of months ago and all was working fine. He gave the phone back to me saying that it is locked.
I tried unlocking the phone but it seems that the screen is unresponsive, so I flashed it again by going into the boot loader screen "Volume Up + Power Button". The phone stated that it is starting for the first time but the screen was still unresponsive. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? Or do I need to tell him to send the phone back to HTC for repairs?
Sounds like the touch screen died ....
Time for a repair ..
Also this really should have been posted in general , as it is not a ROM release , just an FYI
Aww okay. I'll let him know. Thanks.
I'll post like this in General next time. Tks.
HI, I have now the same problem after ROM Flashed, did you solve the problem by yourself, or really the touch screen died.
Rgds
Same thing with me. I ordered new digitizer+LCD and changed them, but the screen is still unresponsive. Other ROM didn't help.
Some advices?
i seen this happen with several phones, reflash to stock and send to HTC they will repair it for free.
I have same problem, yet my phone was bought 18 months ago...worked perfectly until now.
Can a touch screen get defective after normal usage ?

Yes it can, if your touch functionality of your HD2 has stopped working then your digitizer has probably went out.

This is usually due to the replacement components not being properly installed. Also when one is working with the internals they have to be very careful as some of the internals are very easy to break without you even knowing you did. So the cases you spec of are more than likely not because it was not the Digitizer or LCD was not the problem, but human error.
i fixed mine and it didnt cost me
the unresponsive screen maybe the digitizer buts its more likey the end call button, believe it or not dirt can get behind the contact or because the back button is next to we use the far edge of the end call button thus leading to bending the contact, when any of this happens your screen will be unresponsive
you can either take it to a shop and pay for a new screen and digitizer or take it apart and clean the contacts
go to ifixit for step by step guides
hope that helps

I have no idea what are you talking about, that doesn't make sense, as far as I know is no direct relation between END button and (non-working/responding) touchscreen: you may even disconnect/replace bottom buttons ribbon/flex from motherboard and touchscreen will work if OK(or not, if defective).
Is there anybody who can confirm this(or not)?
3 weeks ago I had a LCD/digitizer replaced (cracked screen, but was still working) all was great till 2 days ago. Screen stopped working - took it back to the place I had replace the screen and they tried 3 brand new screens and still no go. Ended up being my main board - luckily I had a spare HD2 and they pulled that board and all is well again.
Believe it or not your LCD/digitizer might be fine - find someone or a way to test main board would be where I would start after the last 3 days.
Good luck
PS - I did NOT try the end button idea prior to the repair.

I also have a 2009 htc hd2 on which screen does not work.
I'd like to know if it's
- a common problem
- is it possible that it's a software (flashing) issue
- can it be replaced and for how much

From my own experience :
1. It's a common issue, there are hundreds of reports in this forum and I read them all because I had the same problem some months ago
2. Probably not. It's generally hardware-related and often the digitizer (touch responsive screen) . Brief explanation : There's a flaw in the design of the HD2, the thin cable wiring the digitizer to the motherboard, is just below the power button. After some extensive use of your powerbutton, it might happen that the power button touches the cable and cause some kind of shortcut in it which makes the digitizer unresponsive to the motherboard.
3. I replaced mine here : http://www.htcphonerepairs.co.uk/ . Fast repair, secure shipping to Belgium, good price and excellent customer support. (Sounds like advertizing but I swear to be only a happy customer )
There are also multiple videos on youtube explaining how replacing the digitizer yourself if you dare !
Also, I read answers saying that you can somewhat "play" with your buttons (especially the power one) to turnaround the problem. That's correct, BUT it's absolutely inevitable that the problem with come back again if you use the buttons, and you'll have to force more and more to unblock again and repeat again and a again... and that will damage your button bar.
I did this during almost 2 months and that put down all my buttons and now they are really close to the chassis which is very annoying. If only I knew it before I would have replaced the digitizer directly !
For 6 months with my new digitizer + using ICS with soft buttons, I have no problem at all !

Just because this dude has "no idea" it doesn't mean he knows it better.
It IS the END button that gets pressed too often and at some point it begins to mess with the digitizer connection. It can be dirt. It can just be the cable came lose and needs tightening, it can be wear-out.
whatever it is, it is caused by the end-key being too close to the connector cable.
If you guys only searched for this on the HD2 Forums before posting this Thread hat not been necessary. It is the most well known design flaw of the HD2 and as such well documented and commented here.

You didn't get it right or at all:
END key may determine touchscreen failure along the time(being the CAUSE! of this), but the EFFECT is an unusable touchscreen, which cannot be repaired in any other way than replacing it(the touchscreen!!, I mean).
Any other attempt to repair, clean, bend, press, cut or whatever WILL NOT FIX an already faulty touchscreen (even caused by END button excessive or not usage) and who thinks otherwise, no problem with me: SWEET DREAMS!
You sound like my comment hurt you. Sorry if it did. I'm not one hundred percent sure that this issue can be fixed without replacing the screen, yet fairly certain. I've now disassembled two HD2 and couldn't quite find the precise spot where the damage occurred, yet after properly assembling the devices again, one came back alive, the other not. The one which has the screen and buttons not working right is the one that got thrown at me by a kind person. It most likely has physical damage somewhere, although I couldn't locate it. The other one didn't get damage and has screen and buttons work well after complete disassembly and assembly.
Both devices also have different screen types.
I now gave up both devices and am withdrawing myself from the HD2 world. Too many issues with the devices getting old.

So I had to replace my ear speaker on my atrix. That went well but when I put it back together I lost the ability to hit the 2,w,s,x&z keys on the keyboard when the phone is held upright.
I've taken it apparent and put it back together again to no avail
Any suggestions on what to try to fix it?
It does sound like it is hardware related. I assume that this patch of screen doesn't function at all on other apps (not the keyboard)? Try a touch test app on the market and see if it recognizes the touch on the broken bit of the screen
Thats the odd thing, with the mutlitouch tester app you can click and then drag over to that area and there is a line where it won't cross but you can get close.
I must have bumped or scratched something internally, the screen itself is fine.
sounds like the fragile digitizer ribbon had been riped
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Yeah if that is the case, i'm afraid that it broken and you'll need a new digitizer, sorry
