[Q] Need help choosing a rom - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Sorry for the noob question but I wanted to hear some of your opinions on this.
I got my Note 9005 shortly and after finally getting the Network to work, I decided to flash CM11 for now. I love CM11 but for a phone like the Note 3 which has an insane number of cool features, its not the best.
The problem is, I would use the stock rom for all the features but I absoloutely hate Samsungs UI and with the trouble ive been having with Odin, I thought id ask if there was a different rom I could use?
Is there some sort of alternative to the stock rom which:
1) I can flash with recovery
2) Has alot of the stock rom features
3) Does not look like a child made it (sorry to people who like TouchWiz)
I hope someone can help.
Thank you!

Better go for heavily themed roms based on stock rom

Hi, i have read it. Why dont you try some AOSP ROM: C-rom, Cacbon Rom

Carbon rom looks good but im more looking for something that takes full advantage of the Notes features not just Androids customizability.

If you really like "features" you may want to try a stock based rom like Omega or XNote

[Q] Dharam's ROM Collection - Should I? - For those who cant post in Dev Section

Hey everyone,
I am planning to develop Custom ROM's as follows:
Stock
Stock Ultimate
Clean
Clean Ultimate
Ultra Clean
Ultra Clean Ultimate
Battery Saver
The features of each ROM version will be decided and then the ROM will be finalized and uploaded.
I am also planning to develop each of the above version for different BASE ROM's like
JPM
JPN
XWJPF
DDJP2
The reason to develop the following ROM's is not to provide final CUSTOM ROM's but Basic Custom ROM's which the users can then customize as per their requirements...
SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT ME TO WORK ON THIS COLLECTION...
NOTE: If there is not much response then I will work on something else other than this...
Dont take it as bad dhram bro...but many of us or atleast me is fed up of custom roms...coz in every rom nothing new...new theme and just new apps that v can download through market too....so its better you work on something else....hope you will take as an advice...;-)

Ok thanks for the advice...
Yeah don't waste your time, however I would like to see a battery saver rom. That would be something new, I think.

ready to root and flash

Hey guys. I'm to the point where I'm ready to flash my phone to get it's potential out. I'm seen the guide on how to do it. So what is the best or most stable Ics ROM? I also want to get into voltage and clock modding and all that good stuff. Any advice? I've done this multiple times but they have all been on prepaid smartphones. Not sure if there is a big world if difference.
Am I in the wrong area? Not responses yet
Hi,
Section is rigth but question is quite too general....each of Us have different taste. For example I hate Samsung style(stock rom) so currently I am on Paranoiddroid rom (Cm9 based rom with lovely custom Dpi per app).
Anyway my personal advice before flashing any Ics based rom is...READ READ AND READ again because there are many risk related to buggy kernel that can hard brick your Note.
Sorry for not being too detailed about this but, believe me, best thing in Xda is Read, it will make you understand what you are going to do and, most of all, will prevent you to hard brick your really expensive Smartphone.
Bye
Hey I too am in the same state as you. However I looked at some roms and so far I would recommend the kingdroid ics ROM v.2.0. I've read the 2.1 is buggy unlike the 2.0. And that ROM has the s pen functions. Paranoid ROM doesn't have the s pen function but can access the tablet mode of each apps. I'm not sue if king had the new s memo. I'm pretty nervous about doing it since all the news about bad kernels and hard bricks. Hope this is useful.

I'm pretty much the same, except my note is already rooted. But I'll only flash gb roms until a much safer ICS rom is released.

That sounds like the best option. What good in the GB arena?

1. CassiesXtralite
2. CheckROM
3. KingDroid
are ones I like. I have yet to flash ICS.
Stock ROMS are also nice.

[Q] Custom Roms

Hi all!
I recently got Nexus 4 and I'm getting back to the android scene now since my old Mytouch 4G days. I was an iphone user. So, Ive read lot of forums and did search up typical questions I have.
Firstly, is there a relatively good custom rom for availaboe for nexus 4 besides the Stock 4.2 that im using currently. Any opinions? I prefer better battery life, touch screen response, and overall smoothness, but dont want to compromise performance though. Also, is CWM more reliable custom recovery than TWRP?
Thanks!
Well first of all to get those "Custom Rom's" you need to Root (Jailbreak) your device.
Cyanogenmod 10.1 is pretty good for starters Rom wise. And before you do anything DO YOUR HOMEWORK! ... go on Youtube watch and learn how people Root, Flash Customs ROMS & Kernels (Overclocking, better Battery Life etc etc) before blindly doing anything.
What you are asking here is purely opinion. I prefer TWRP and others prefer CWM. I like Twrp because I can easily flash multiple files instead of flashing them all separately. Custom Rom I use is CyanogenMod. But again, that's all opinion. See, we have an AOSP device, so most roms will be very stable. Custom Roms are based on AOSP instead of Touchwiz or other skinned Android version. This means less hacking is required to get things working in custom roms. When a Samsung or HTC phone gets CyanogenMod or another AOSP based Rom, there are several hacks to get things working and even then, not everything works. You will find all Roms to be stable. I choose CM because they have great features, but don't go overboard. AOKP IMO is too much and most of it is useless to me. But, some people like having all the options AOKP brings.
I suggest trying things out! That's the best part of Android. Make a backup of your current setup in recovery and flash away! It's easy to restore what you had. It's nearly impossible to brick a Nexus and I recommend giving each Rom you try more than just an hour or two and really try it out. You made a great choice by getting a Nexus as your first Android after being away for a while. Take advantage of it!

says the guy who bricked his n4 ...i kid
Try sr1 ROM,,that thing runs the smoothest out of all the ROMs out there. Which is crazy, as anything you'll try will be rather fast due to how responsive this device is. Pair that with Franco kernel and you'll have pretty great battery life as well.

Haha lol, Thank you my new friend for the advise ! I am currently reading a thread here on XDA on manually rooting and stuff. I am learning C programming so this should help me in learning =)! I prefer XDA thread guides over Youtube videos, which honestly have and are bad, in my opinion. I want to know exactly why this and what this even the minor details. Thanks for your input !

Wonderful reply, thank you. I did use TWRP on my brothers Gnex, it did a soft brick, and had to revert to CWM when flashing CM on his phone, i dont know why it did. I did full wipe, and other wiping in recovery :S. For a noob like myself, I'm just afraid of bricking despite all the reading I do and know it well, in real world things do go wrong. As for Roms, I do understand what AOSP and AOKP mean, but don't know whats the difference in actual roms.
I won't have a lot of time with flashing roms my university opens soon, so I can give it a shot. CM 10.1 nightlies is a good start? Or Xylon? From my research, I leaning towards them and the MinCo + Franco.
Thank you for the warm welcome , I feel really happy and glad to be back to android again . This time there is no going back, I love penta band 3G phones and they only exist in android and windows. But, prefer android due to so much you can do now!
One last thing though, about the kernel, should I start with Franco one, or stick with stock for now?

Aright , thank you friend ! I will start with sr1 Rom then and see how things go from there .
You must read a lot before start tweaking, xda is the biggest encyclopedia of all.
I highly recommend Paranoid Android, it's just super awesome!

Best ROM i9505

hello there.
i bought my new I9505 2 weeks ago and i hate the TouchWiz! probably the worst "launcher" i have ever used in my whole life!
so, i want to find a new ROM for myself and i want it to be really good, any suggestions?
P.S I dont liek the WanamLite because its reminding me of the Stock ROM, liked Omega but still its TouchWiz Based.
CM is my favorite but has only nightly versions that when i install them with my kernel and Gapps+Watchon the phone is stuck on the S4 launch image.

There is no best one...only personal favorite roms. Start with using a new launcher first, I use nova launcher which runs great on the S4. Still not satisfied after a new launcher, start flashing and find out your favorite rom

[Q] Best ROM and Kernel?

Next week i'm getting a LG G2 and i would like some advice in which is the best ROM and Kernel i should use?
In other words i would like to know the best combination of ROM and Kernel for LG G2?
sorry for bad english
It's quite difficult to tell... Some people like AOSP roms better, some Stock...
LG's stock is amongst the best of stock roms imho so I suggest you first get to know it and then figure out whether you'd like to change or not.
As for kernels, same story here: if you prefer stability, stock is always better. Battery life is not dramatically improved by any of the kernels I've tried and it's really a matter of preference...
Sorry buddy but these questions either lead to "the depends" answer or to a non-sense argument, usually between stock-partisans and AOSP-partisans... Although for LG there seem to be a consensus around stock being very good anyway, unlike some other brands.
Now for the personal taste: CloudyFlex 2.2 with CloudyKernel is my current daily driver. Stable and smooth plus some great features from Flex rom.
If I helped you, please thank me

Root the device, install Philz Touch recovery and flash away. Doesn't matter which version you start with. If you come from JB and flash a KK rom, make sure you flash the KK baseband but that's all indicated in the OPs

sorry to ask so many questions,
the KK baseband is flashed after or before updating to KK?
and
is it possible to install cloudyflex 2.2 with TWRP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449679), because TWRP is much easier to install?
If you are wondering 'WOW, this guy must be really lazy?', my answer is yes, i am lazy, because internet in South Africa is expensive and very limited and i will thank you as many times as i need until i know everything i need to know!
Everything you need to know must be posted in the dedicated Q&A thread, no need open endless topics
You have 5 posts and already opened 3 threads, this looks like a small abuse...

Dude, I realize I already gave you all the links in another similar thread you opened...
I find Philz to be easy and it seems compatible with more roms but I can't vouch for that.
BB can be flashed before or after I believe. Or you can flash along...
If I helped you, please thank me
Just try till u get the best that suits you
