Yes , ofcourse . Not only MIUI but Cyanogenmod , Slim , AOKP , Beanstalk , Carbon , Resurrection can also be made for SGG2 . Just we need a good developer and one know how to compile from source .

I don't know . Bcoz I don't own SGG2 . I think anyone with more than 'fine programming skills' can compile a rom from source . I can't do it also . I have Grand 1 and It also had no development in the start but after that developers like k2wl , pawitp , xenon92 made our grand awesome . More than 75% of ROMs in Grand development forum are by these three . I hope that Grand 2 also sees a dev like that . Bcoz I can understand the pain of not even running a Aosp ROM .
Don't forget to press the thanks button !!!!!

Why you required MIUI ROM for grand 2. The main reason for buying Samsung galaxy phones are there Features with TouchWiz. If you don't like that you have wasted your money. As in this price range you get much better hardware or same hardware with low price from other manufacturer, like lenovo, Huawei, Micromax, Xolo, Lava, etc.........

i dont buy samsung for touchwiz. i buy it for the brand value, assurance, durability, ease of service.
i dont buy ""much better hardware or same hardware with low price from other manufacturer, like lenovo, Huawei, Micromax, Xolo, Lava, etc.. "" because i am not sure of their quality, durability, ease of service.
hence, if i am looking for any custom rom, it is not because i like touchwiz, but because i had to buy it in spite of touchwiz. i have not ""wasted"" my money on samsung, i have invested my money in samsung.

A very cool move on Samsung's part. It seems like recently they truly understood how the Android community works.
Wat makes cynomod better than the original samsung firmware eeally? Is it coz its jus rooted and has a better theme? Can someone clarify this please?

I am not a big fan of cyanogen (well I wasn't when I was using htc' sense, not a big fan of TW) but I see it as a big step towards the community (if atinm really is just a cyanogen developer) and as a steppingstone to many different mods and custom roms once CM is up and running, I am also very pleased they releases sources early and chose as much as possible open hardware

It depends if you like touchwiz cyanogen probably sucks for you, I love HTC's sense and was never interested in running CM roms (I ran one for 15 minutes and quickly reflashed a sense rom)1 but if you don't care about these vendor customizations you can get roms without all the bloat.
For me the good thing is the galaxy sense team use CM as their base, so hopefully this means a quicker port of sense to the sgs2 too
I suppose this will bring wiimote functionality too?

That would be a AOSP rom, there is a work in progress build in the dev section right now.
CM7 is close to aosp, better most would say.

CM is based on AOSP or vanilla android. However it is pretty heavily modded and has a slew of features such as lock screen gestures, modding of system apps to include additional settings, support for additional file types etc. It's a nice ROM for sure but there are no guarantees it will be 'Faster'. Touchwiz 4.0 hardware accelerates some system apps such as the browser and homescreens/application drawer so a stock S2 may still feel 'Faster'.
Edit: As the above poster said, a pure stock ROM like the Nexus 1/S is in progress in the dev section, CM is far from vanilla android; an advantage for some and a disadvantage for others
This team just opened a thread in the dev section. Let's hope they will do some good work!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
It's not just the CM7 rom that's important
Slew of other custom roms such as miui are based on CM7. This will open the flood gate to modding hopefully
FYI AFAIK (yay acronyms) Samsung gave 1 SGS2 to each big CM7 contributor of CM7 for SGS, so "again AFAIK" 4 SGS2.
Which is pretty much an awesome move IMO

Get over it. It's not gonna happen and samsung won't listen :/
we've spoken with Samsung and their answer was "there is no gingerbread upgrade planned for gt-i5800"
i think ive posted this answer a month ago in "General section" also Samfirmware not interested to port it either. They usually work with Samsung releases via Kies.
i still have the SG3 and im thinking to sell it
Samsung is soo gay man. :[email protected] Our phone does have the hardware. Those guys just don t want to give it. :-x
samsung are crappys......they r lazy....they r ****s.....coz.....actually the thing is they too might be knowing we g3 is capable of eating gbread but they are lazy to prepare 1 for it.....and a big thing is they do everything just for themselves i mean they think just of getting more money and not about the so called "welfare" and happiness of customers......when we'll spoil their name then they will come on track......
Yes yes. Efforts are required. There's no harm in giving it a shot. Right guys?
I completly agree with hillbeast.
They are making such claims because everything is marketing and profit. If you want gingerbread you'll have to buy another, more expensive, device.
Hardware can run it. One man army (marcellusbe) can make it (port it) but samsungs overpaid programmers can't...
i don't want gb...
i want ics (go marcellusbe please try)
Yes we also want ics
But samsung, if you think you'd not bother many people if their g3 won't get 2.3 or higher your wrong! I know allready 5 people with a g3 outside this forum while I just know 2 with a gs and 3 with a gs2...
No, ICS will be portable in 6 months when Google release the sources, but i think that ICS is crap. I want to have cm7.
serious, whats the "BIG" advantage of having gingerbread over froyo? what could we do with our g3 that we cant do know.
it's faster and i like updates but you're right.. ice cream sandwich is waaay cooler and i think it works faster..

MODERATOR MESSAGE
Guys,
I have been following this thread. While it still looks like a civilised debate, i fear it may turn into an arguement soon.
Please let me be happy Keep it civilised. Dont curse - even if it is meant to be for Samsung!!! LOL
i wish samsung can make a website like www.htcdev.com things would be a lot easier for developers especially when samsung sold millions of smartphones for GALAXY series...galaxy s,galaxy s2,galaxy note and their tons of variants
OR
should we file a petition as galaxy s owners did for ICS and looks like samsung would eventually release ICS for them now
http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/27/2663320/samsung-galaxy-s-and-galaxy-tab-ics-upgrade-review
now that we r hearing about galaxy s3
http://www.sammobile.com/2011/12/24...-s3-will-have-a-quad-core-processor/#comments
isnt it time to make a dev site for samsung or should we just pray google can make hardware n software both for androids which might v well be ultimate combo.
since google bought motorola
http://techcrunch.com/2011/08/15/breaking-google-buys-motorola-for-12-5-billion/
what do u guys think .....
What, like this one?
http://developer.samsung.com/home.do
The only things I see in the HTC developers site is unlocking the bootloader which is already unlocked on Samsung phones and the kernel sources which I am sure Samsung already releases.
As for the petition, I don't see what your point is. We are already going to get ICS in Q1 2012, and the kernel sources will also come then.
What's in it for them?

Better reputation.
Better reputation = More new customers
Better reputation = Unlikely to loose current customers
And therefore:
Better reputation = $$$ (which is all they want, isn't it?)
However the problem is that such a project has to be maintained what costs time & money. The questions is:
Is it worth it for Samsung?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
device specific drivers
kernel sources etc
for them or any other business its all about MONEY ...when ur selling millions handsets u would like to keep ur customers to make more money out of them for example most of the ppl who own gs2 would be looking forward to upgrade to s3 when released .to keep gs2 owners samsung would like to make gs2 owners happy and honestly samsung dont have to do much here .there is so much development for gs2 so many developers on xda and other websites.

Don't worry... someone will. This device will be to popular not to have CM.
Re: codeworkx will no longer make CM for the S4.
Generally there were 3 developers who maintained samsung devices
1. Codeworkx
2. Entropy512 and
3. Xplodwild
Of them the first 2 have vowed to never waste their time on exynos
Xplodwild is still there but how much time he will have I have no idea..
It will be very difficult to get competent and experienced developers so quickly ..
So initially S4 will definitely be behind in AOSP development IMO
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
The way Samsung is treating the dev's & developer community I doubt anyone from CM team will be left with Samsung devices in near future :/
If you want CM or AOSP don't buy Samsung's devices. They never have offered any real support toward third party development. Ask Entropy512 and he'll tell you the whole story. They promise something but never live up to their words. I'm sure some people here still remember the Exynos saga.

I wouldn't be sure of that. The most experienced devs for Exynos are sick of it and won't support S4. Maybe new will come, but will they as good as them?
CM is a community-project so devs are not forced to develop for a device even if it's popular if they want they do. I think S4 will be far behind other AOSP devices. Just take a look at S2 and S3. If you want CM don't for Samsung, go Sony or Nexus. Don't be disappointed about CM on S4 (if it will be released?), you have been warned.

Developing for a Samsung device is a nightmare.
End of story.
I warn any of you who expects a thriving developing community here to look elsewhere.
A popular device like this is no use if Samsung won't even support the devs here.

Well for the Qualcomm devices (AKA US versions) I would expect Cyanogen himself to continue to support it as he has for the S3 (US versions)
That being said... I have little to no faith that VZW will have an ulocked bootloader so I am personally not even going to look at this device until that issue is taken care of..
