Hi Dears
I made a Petition in Petition online to Request from Samsung Co Ltd. for Release Honeycomb for Galaxy tab, If You agree with my Idea , Please go to Petition link and sign it
"Honeycomb for Every Galaxy Tab User"
Petition Link : http://www.petitiononline.com/13900322/petition.html

I know some people in Samsung and i`ve worker with them and i`d like to tell you that Samsung dont give a f**k on consumer people, even the business one. They only care about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ like al big companys but they are the 1st on ifnoring consumer delight.
It's a good idea, but it won't work. I read somewhere that Honeycomb wouldn't go to devices that shipped with FroYo. Think it was a statement from Google too.

This petition is completley and utterly pointless. Its not upto Samsung or any other manufacturer if HC is released, Its up to google! Google isn't under any sort of legal obligation to release source at all. Its not like kernels where they are obliged to because of GPL.
So this petition isn't going to solve a damn thing.
The reason why HC has not been released is for one reason and one reason only and that's because they are trying to build a good and reliable range of HC Tablets. If they were to release the source you would get and endless amount of cheap/**** Chinese tablets that would dilute the product range and give a crappy impression on customers.

+1 .. agreed in every word you said ..
lets be logical .. HC for tab7.1 is ain't gonna happen , only Spacemoose1 can make this happen
Unless someone is going to pay for the development fees, Samsung would be dumb to invest time in this rather than on new product lines.

But I would like Samsung before our friends in this forum to waste your precious time to do this, he proceeded to release versions for Galaxy tablet
i dont know, although it would have been great for both google and samsung to support HC on the SGT, i think id still prefer one built by the community. although there is more work involved it would still prove how far the community has come along, with people like spacemoose1 we can realy see the dedication to the coding they put behind their work.

how you expect from company that gave the update(gingerbread) first to SGS to give us Honeycomb ? ? they are treating the Heck Tab like a SGS ... and even less .. i believe they will not update the galaxy tab to honeycomb .. we are not going anywhere until next year probably , talking about the official update and not for honeycomb , i'm waiting spacemoose1 for the honeycomb , and ain't wait the google or samsung to provide us a silly update that gave to Galaxy S before to us ... i just p><ssed off

no i agree with you there, we probaly wont see an offical update till 3.1 or something later comes out from google. personaly ive been using spacemoose1's gsm version of HC which so far runs nicely
There is power in numbers. Sadly, I don't think we have enough power. SGT is a great device tho. So glad that we have a booming a community and great developers.
The fact is, it needs to be pushed by Google to Samsung. Google *stated* that any tablet that originally shipped with FroYo wont get Honeycomb. As we know, the SGT came with FroYo, so no official Honeycomb for us. And a petition won't change that, reguardless of how many people we have.

Straight up, they didn't release it as Euro and Asian Tabs can make phone calls and Honeycomb doesn't do phone calls. They are not going to split their market because some XDA users are pissed. Oh, and money.

After one of the biggest online revolt against Korean Giant Samsung Electronics by its consumers after announcing straightaway that it won’t be coming out with ICS Android 4.0 for its 1st Generation Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab line up, now it seems like Samsung had to bow down to the reaction of its customers. Samsung today announced that it will be going to review its decision for not rolling out ICS for Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab which clearly suggests that Samsung Electronics will soon be going to unveil the ICS Android 4.0 version.
This decision comes after so many forums reported that when unofficial ICS Android 4.0 builds are taking rounds for its 1st generation line up of Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S then why can’t Samsung can optimize for the same. Some of the leading forums also kicked off an online petition request which was supported by users in a huge number and in turn has really shaken Samsung and is now forced to review its decision.
just hope that this “Review” will soon be converted into a speedy roll out of ICS Android 4.0 for its 1st generation Galaxy devices which includes Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S. Do, share with us your reaction and thoughts on this as it will further help us and to you as we will be passing this feedback to Samsung.

Guess we need to push harder then.
i just read that too
the reason samsung gives out is a lie. they just want to shrug off their responsibility
if ram is the main problem then what fate will come to the newly released galaxy s plus, and galaxy w, and galaxy Y. they all have 512 or less mb. HORRIBLE SUPPORT is the main problem here. look at SONY ERICSSON and learn samsung!
My next phone will be a Google phone.
Nexus rulz!
LOL extra bloat above bloat instead of AOSP when you give the performance excuse?

Don't see why they should learn from Sony Ericsson. They are not faster than samsung updating their phones. Samsung has 2.3.6 for most of their phones while SE has 2.3.4.
Never really saw the reason to release the Galaxy S Plus. Atleast, here in Sweden it costs more than the S2. That's Samsungs main problem. All these models that are the same as the others. They have Gio, Ace, Mini, Galaxy Y? They are mainly the same phones. If they would instead only release two of them, like the Ace and the Mini, they would have time to upgrade all the phones. WAKE UP, SAMSUNG!!!

It's just Sony now fyi.
I usually don't join in these discussions; however your statement is untrue.
My wife's SE X10 flagship smartphone from 2010 is NOT getting an update to ICS.
How do you explain that? This phone was released with android 1.6 and would not get an update to gingerbread at first, also the phone was uncapable of multitouch and would not get an update... I doubt many would agree with you that SE update policy was great back then.

I think your best bet for updates is to go with the Nexus phones.
get back to the topic guys,.. we need to do something,..
Ontopic; Samsung might also consider to release drivers for the hardware for coming android versions... although a vanilla android 4 from samsung would be nice.
How much flashmemory does ICS with touchwiz need and how much does the SGS have?
I know 2 things
1. i9000 can run ICS unoffically
2. can run Modern Combat 3 smoothly
So Samsung - don't be lazy, it will hurt your business! i had i5700 spika that wasn't updated, i9000 that wont be updated - i will not make this mistake for the 3rd time...
People at Samsung mobile are so stupid they think that we will buy S2 when we don't get ICS on S1
Samsung U can't force us!

Probably 1GB of RAM like the SGS II. Touchwiz in its current incarnation for the SGS II is a memory hog, and probably would not work on the SGS with ICS if they tried.
They would most likely need more than one branch of Touchwiz to bring it to other devices, and this is probably the reason why it won't be released for the SGS and devices with less than 1GB of RAM.
I don't think its not possible, I think Samsung just does not want to spend dev hours on older devices in which they won't see a return in investment. (and of course, you won't be going out to buy a new device)
Like it or not, Apple has changed consumer expectations for updates. I understand its much easier to do such a thing with a limited amount of devices, but in the eyes of the average consumer, that is not their problem.
Don'r exite guys, it is just a rumour confirmed by GSMA!!

There is a petition of 2.2 that is signed by 24k people, but Samsung didn't care of it. I don't think that Samsung really cares about people. CM9 (Android 4.0) was released for spica, check my thread here or development forum on samdroid.net.
Thanks!
this is a dream the spica can not stand ics
: (
Spica can handle ICS, the development will pick up as soon as we get a stable 2.3
They dont care!!

What I'm thinkin' is - they are so much more interested in sells process or cooperation's with other companies, that they have us - users of "middle, low end" phones somewhere, where even sun don't wants to go to...
but samsung is not the only one who doing this - htc is just the same.
nokia - for example - without any customer surveys mad decision about finishing all of production of "E" (business) series, and created different code names and lover quality products - for example something like asha.
For me - personally - spica was first and last smartfon operated by android - all of this fragmentation is making me sick - samsung is developing 3 models very similar to each others, and then they are lying that every of those three is to slow, to low to soft upgrade. motorola is even better - there's a sub page which is informing every "pre-cunsomer" which model will get upgrade and which will not (wtf? - a care of public relations?).
htc - in 2009 they were developing few new models at one year, now - i don't have any idea how many models and sub models they have made in every three month :-|
apple - i really respect, that all of their product is unix based - but i don't like prices and balls-handling-policies - of using their soft (what i mean: apple - U don't want to users use your system in any way it is possible? start selling only hardware!).
i don't have really believe in all of new techs, so i don't expect miracles, but it's very nice to see, that all around the world - there are peoples/users, who thinks more/less like me
Take care all and stay Mind Clear for or this marketing/sells and public relations brain washing!
Would certainly be good if Samsung could at least release a kernel. The main bits missing are drivers for camera and megnetometer etc so with those we could easily make it work...
Added my name to the petition.
even if every owner of spica signs it .it is very unlikely that samsung will respond.......
just see their premier product two years back galaxy s was denied ics which still has better hardware compared to the current phones running ics.............
the thc desire c which has 90% same specs as explorer has ics........
and explorer was denied ics....this should give a idea of the situation........
This is the unofficial thread to find the list of developers for the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
If you are a developer and or ROM maker/cooker would like to confirm that you are going to dev on this device please send me a pm, and I will add you to the list. In past experiences these types of threads have shown to be very helpful to build dev support for a device, and also to help people decide on a device.
What, actually is the list for?
Basically its for people and devs to see all the dev support the device will have. This sometimes is the deciding factor for getting a phone. If there's huge dev support more people will come. This makes it easier for people to find information on what devs will be supporting the note 2.
To pm me and get added to the list Click Here.
Let's make this Galaxy Note II community awesome!

Hi,
Thanks for starting this thread. I just want to ask "Do you think there be a lot of development for this phone?" Particularly for Note II, in general for future Samsung phones.
I just finished watching this video here or here and I just heard about some developers leaving Samsung altogether? Samsung locking bootloaders? Samsung getting too big for their own ego?
I currently own the Int'l N7000 and I found the development to be good for what I want. I didn't check out the i717 thread but I assume they are fair.
I'm not really experienced in rooting but I found Samsung Note to be fairly straight forward. I recently rooted an HTC Amaze 4G and the numerous steps plus the lack of info made me never to buy an HTC phone (even if I do like the HTC One X, my friend has the North American version and he said development is low there).
This is one reason why I'm holding out on the Note II until Feb 2013, maybe even Sept 2013 (in case Note 3) comes out because I want to see how the development plays out.
I know the phone just came out, but I assumed International Note development should be all hunky dory but I never know. Makes me not want to switch devices. I had an Int'l Galaxy S2 previously and development for that is great!
I hear Sony development is awesome. But then, I think I'll just go get a Nexus for ease of development (but the screen is so small!)
What do you guys think?

thanks leafsacc, I wasn't aware of this until now. I'm still not sure what's going on but I assumed there would be a way around a bootloader, as coders always find a way :highfive:
but reading the below, says it could have been verizon which was the cause of the bootloader, not samsung. so why is xdadevtv directing his video to samsung? is it because no open source was given for the s3? has it still not been released? will it be? anyone care to sum it up for some of us who aren't in the know? :>
Based on Samsung’s track record of always shipping devices with unlocked bootloaders, we can all safely deduce that Verizon is the one to blame here.

For starters cm will not support n7100 if samsung dont change their ways. atleast the current dev team in cm will not support newer samsung exynos devices. i9300/n80xx was the last. Only way to get n7100 supported is if samsung cooperate or a new dev join cm dev team.
Without cm support i cannot do my paranoidandroid from source as I do with n7000. Time will tell if some new dev join cm samsung team or samsung get their act together. Dont look good though.

You still need one of the dev maintaining exynos devices to buy n7100 and then maintaining it... we can hope for someone to step up but its their freetime and money. Entropy512 told me he would be buying at&t version which is nearly identical if samsung would change their behavior. All we can do for now is to sit and wait...

This is a great thread. I hope more chefs will chime in.
I am considering a Note II but it is absolutely vital that CM is developed for it, together with Paranoid Android. Especially since Key Lime Pie (CM11?) is be around the corner.
I also think it is important with AOSP/AOKP development for it.
So I hope the issue will be sorted during this month. If not, I am afraid that I have to consider a different game plan.
Buying a device without proper developer support is a no go for me.
For everyone woundering about my sources here is a statement from Entropy512:
Entropy512 said:
Not likely to happen. If CM comes to the Note 2, it will only be if a new maintainer steps up.
Most of the current Exynos maintainer team (myself, espenfjo, codeworkx) and others have all decided that our current devices will be our last non-Nexus Exynos devices. I'm not sure about xplodwild, but I have a feeling he's highly unlikely to take up another Haxxinos with the rest of us gone and given his prior experiences with it.
If Samsung changes their attitude towards developers, this might change, but their attitude lately (zero documentation, zero platform source code, a trend towards bootloader locking - Only the Verizon S3 has a locked bootloader now, but Samsung has had the infrastructure in place since the S2 and they are constantly adding more checks) has led to the current Exynos maintainer team deciding that enough is enough. I don't think any of us are going to do anything to make Samsung's Exynos devices more attractive to any particular market segment until they provide assistance (in the form of technical documentation and source code) in return. I don't know about the others, but if they offer me a free device I'll say no - I refuse to participate in a PR stunt like the I9100 donations were.
Pretty much the only way I'll go back is if I see reference platform source that is up to the same standards as CAF and omapzoom, or they actually start providing real documentation and source code for the devices I'm currently working with.

Thanks entwicklun,
I Googled "verizon locked bootloader samsung galaxy note" and from what I understand that it was Verizon's request to lock the bootloader. Not sure what I would do if I was Samsung but my guess is, if it helps sell more phones on Verizon then lock the boot loader. Money talks, right?
But then I'm hearing news about Samsung not giving developers this and that, just like the example below.

And I also need a phone that will have Paranoid Android (and the odd CM here and there), but it must also a 5" phablet. I guess there is nothing wrong with my current Note, but again by searching on Google there's a possibility that the "next big thing" might be the HTC Google Nexus X+. If that has an expansion card slot, that's it, I'm not getting the Note 2.

I've already ordered my note 2, but I would fully support the dev crew. even if that means selling my note 2 at a loss and buying what's being developed, pending though. I do like phablets and if the x+ doesn't have an exspansion slot then I probably wouldn't buy it.
I also hope aokp devs on the note 2. I certainly love their ROMS

Utacka sir is so kind to us all in his PA thread
Anyways, I think devving for this device would initially start with kanged TW based ROMs. With CM wary on supporting the device, it does seem a bit dark but hey, I am sure there are others to step up.
But then again, you can never be too sure.

I am the same, an expansion card slot is a big plus.
development support is also a big factor.
I would flash aokp right now but i'm so scared of emmc bug (which I assume will not be in the Note 2 just like it did not exist in GB ROM Notes. But who knows if "Key Lime Pie/Kandy Kane" might have a similar brick bug) on ICS kangs that I just stay far, far, away.
My ultimate fav is CassiesXtraLite so it's good to see thering1975 on the list.

i mean if all of galaxy users push samsung for updates source codes good support company must make somethink last day they said 100.000.000 Galaxy devices sold thats huge and big potancial. Thing about that if they loose 1.000.000 customers this make big differenence.

Mate you are forgetting an important, essential difference ,although it is a sammy device the chip is developed by broadcom so it is broadcom whon is reponsible for such stuff. In our case our chip is exynos developed by sammy itself so it is sammy itself who.has to provide us with such stuff and not any 3rd party manufacture and as we know sammy are what they are.
This is the same issue that there is between international and usa galaxy s3 .International one uses exynos while the other uses Qualcomm chip

1% is not that big, especially for Samsung which is a billions $$$ company and diversified a lot, so lose 1% there, gain 1% there, etc.

I quoted that not because it was a Samsung device but because it was a successful campaign. Lesson: keep marching.
