like the title says, just wondering if odin resets the flash counter. rooted this phone for my dad a while back but now he wants it back to stock and since i am not very familiar with samsungs root/unroot processes i have no idea if it resets it or not. already tried triangle away but when i rebooted and then went back to download mode to check if it reset the counter it said the binary was still custom.

As some of you may know, some of the samsung mirroring apps requerie to have the system stock or have your flash counter on 0. This happen to me in the s3 with the hdmi wireless dongle and after use the traingle away, everithing works fine. Now is happening againg with my Sprint GS4 and triangle away didnt work.
Thanks in advance.

For me, Triangle Away does reset the counter to 0 but then it reverts back to its previous value after a reboot. If I select the option to auto reset the counter at reboot, the counter stays at 0 but only because TA is flashing the counter at bootup every time. I think we may have just have to wait for the app to be updated for the S4.
Yea unfortunately it doesn't get rid of the " custom" status in about device either, even when I allow tracker to run

The only way to do that currently is to revert to unrooted stock

I actually did Odin stick unrooted MDC, and it still said custom under about device. So I'm screwed if I ever need to warranty
Really? I did the Odin flash as well. Did you do a factory reset after you reverted back to stock unrooted? That's the only way to revert everything back to stock as it came out of the box. I ran Triangle Away, unrooted via Odin with the stock MDC tar file and let the phone boot up. Then I booted into the Recovery, did a factory reset and then booted back up again. After I was back up and running, I rebooted into the bootloader and the Binary and System Status were both set to Official. Then I checked the system status in About Device and it too was set to Official.

Like Travis said, it's possible to go back to Official status. The only thing I did differently was that I performed a Factory Reset first then Odin'ed the stock MDC. The end result is the same - Official status in Settings.

I'm telling ya I did all of those. Booted into stock recovery and factory data reset. Still said custom in about device and in bootloader. I ran triangle away, did all the same, still custom

I'm actually having the exact same issue. It worked before I updated to the MDL radio. I had restored to MDC when I hadn't updated after flashing around and binaries had been reset, but now after flashing around after the update its stuck on custom. Guess Ill just wait it out.
triangle away works for the s4..
Can I check flash counter without rooting? I had a root once, then unrooted and used triangle away, but had superSU that was unable to uninstall, so I flashed official rom from my carrier with Odin and SuperSU disappeared. Now I wonder if flash counter is still at 0, cause I'm forced to use my warranty due to bulky battery.

No you can't, not without rooting again. If you re-set the counter prior to flashing the Stock Rom then you should be OK. Put your phone in download mode and just make sure everything still say's 'Official'........I'd be surpised if they checked this anyway if its for a dodgy battery!
The problem is the phone is showing Custom when the phone is turned on. I was on MF3, had rooted via the SD card method. The custom appeared at that point. I did a factory reset and the custom went away and lost root but the superuser app was still showing in the app draw (factory reset did not delete this). I was planning on reloading the MF3 firmware via odin but lent the phone to my daughter while I replaced the screen in her note2. Well of course she got the upgrade message to 4.3 from AT&T, did it and now the unlocked custom is back. Not sure why as it was showing as official, the trip counter was still 0 (never installed a ROM on it) BUT the superuser app was there.
Now on 4.3 I've rooted/unrooted via Kingo, during the unroot it removes superuser but the custom won't go away. I installed Triangle Away while rooted and it still shows 0 on the flash counter. Is there something in this Knox security (not sure how to check this) causing the custom?
Just want to get it back to any stock AT&T firmware so I can sell it. TIA for any help
there are only certain roms you can flash while being on mf3. If you did the mk2 update there is no recovery out yet. Using vroot and kingo are unsafe methods of rooting so puts your device at risk.

Install the Xposed framework from xda. Then, install the Wanam module and look for the Setting under "Security Hacks" that reads "Fake system status" and check the box and reboot.
The issue won't truly be resolved until you flash an official ROM, but the Custom screen will be gone at boot.

unroot via kingo, then factory rest...worked for me on 4.3
Do you plan on a warranty exchange?
I love seeing the custom on boot, it lets me know and other everyday normal people know my phone is slightly modified.

Not sure what I'm going to do with the phone yet, probably sell it but not totally sure. Wondering with it now showing Custom on the boot screen and in the OS will it still receive OTA updates? Hoping the AT&T 4.3 or 4.4 image will be available in the future and that might help.

Hi,
Been having issues with the phone and am planning to rma it. I have rooted/unlocked it and tripped knox. What is the best way to restore it to stock as much as poss? Is it just a case of flashing the stock rom?
Cheers
Wipe data from CWM or Twrp before running triangle away...Check and make sure your model is supported, not sure if I ran triangle away for the Note 3 or the S4 to get all the "custom" back to "official" in download mode. Then reflash phone with stock rom, a bit hard if you're on KK and your region doesn't have it yet, then factory reset...
You won't get Knox trigger back to 0x0 but just play dumb....
Best advice I can give if there's a problem with the hardware...
So I initially rooted my Sprint S5 using the old fashioned way, which tripped my Knox flag seen at bootup in Odin mode. That part I cannot seem to get reset (going to try Triangle Away shortly).
However I now have it reloaded using the Samsung Kies Windows program with the latest firmware, and in the phone settings Device Status where it used to say "Custom" it now again says "Official". I first tried to use Odin to put the stock firmware image back on, which did not help at all.
I went into Kies version 3.2.14072_12 with my S5 plugged in and clicked Tools menu -> Firmware upgrade and initialization". It may ask you for model and serial number, which I put in for mine just fine, and then it launched saying the device will be initialized to original settings. However this is different from doing factory reset from within the phone. It reboots to odin and then recovery and performs a handful of things. When it completed I had to re-setup a bunch of things, but the phone basically unrooted itself without me telling SuperSU to do an unroot. I ran supersu and it said it couldnt run on an unrooted phone... So I checked the About info in settings and voila, back to Official status, and OTA updates work again!
Unfortunately the knox flag didnt un-set, but Im less worried about that and more worried about missing enhancement OTA patches and updates - well I was before I will update here if that Triangle program can reset the counter. I thought that counter was a hard-wired fuse piece of hardware, not flash memory, so Im not sure that it can be done, but worth a try. Hope this works for everyone and Good Luck!!
This is already known.... And FYI no known method can reset the Knox counter.
