I have the T-Mobile Galaxy S4, with the newest (kitkat) stock update, 4.4.2 . It is not rooted.
I use the pattern draw security to wake up from lock screen. I think it is important to have some such security, so that if one leaves one's phone somewhere by accident, someone else cannot pick it up and find out all kinds of personal and financial information.
Yet, when driving a car, it can be difficult (and unsafe) to draw the pattern, or even more so a pin or password, if one wants to make a phone call, navigate, etc For driving, it would be good to be able to unlock the screen with voice. (One could set an unusual wake-up command (no, not "Hi Galaxy" ), so that others would not be able to wake it up with voice. )
I would like to be able to open from the lockscreen with either the pattern OR voice, depending on the situation.
There is a post in a forum that shows how to do that: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...tooth-security-lock-screen-your-note-3-a.html
However, that post is in a forum for Galaxy Note 3.
I tried it on my S4. I turned off the pattern security, and set it to swipe. I followed all the listed steps. Except--one command I could not find on the S4 [Quote from forum post]: LONG PRESS Voice Wake-up to reveal the hidden command> √ "wake up in Secure Lock".[end quote]
I could not long press anything to get that hidden command "wake up in secure lock".
After following all the other steps, with no security, I could wake from the lock screen by voice command. But only with no security, with lock screen set to swipe (which is no security at all).
Once I re-enabled the pattern security (also tried it with PIN), I could not wake the phone by voice any more.
Does anyone know how to get this to work on the T-Mo Galaxy S4? I think it is important to have some security, but would like to be able to wake the phone up by voice while driving.
If it is not possible from the phone's own setup, is there an app one could install that would add that functionality?
One of the secure lockscreen settings is to unlock with voice and face recognition. I would never set that. For one thing, when driving, one would have to stare at the phone for face recognition, not safe. Also, I would not want to have to unlock the phone with my voice every time. For instance, in a quiet place, I don/'t want to have to talk to my phone to unlock it. (And then everyone would hear what one's unlock command is!)
If totally impossible to do with the current update on the S4, is there a way to give suggestions to Samsung, to ask for that feature on the S4? (Which from that other forum post, certainly looks like it is possible on the Note 3.)
This capability would improve both highway safety and phone security. For people should not have to stare at their phone screen to draw a pattern or enter a PIN while driving. But if they therefore turn off lockscreen security entirely, they are compromising their phone security, inviting identity theft, etc. One should be able to have a secure lockscreen that one can open by drawing a pattern (or PIN or password, whichever one prefers) OR a user-set voice command. (In other words, have the lockscreen set to open either way.)
Thank you in advance for your input.

hi. is there a way to quickly password lock the phone? anyone know? lets say im using the phone somewhere where dont feel secure, fear of it be stolen... can I password lock it quickly with a shortcut/ hardware button?k thanx
Anyone please?
Has anyone idea how this can be done? there must be away to activate the password lock immedieately?
I know you can set the password to 5minutes, but normal circumstances it would be annoying to always keep entering the pin. I wonder there must be a way to activate the password/pin lock immmeadiately to prevent unauthorised use (ie if phone gets stolen).
Dont know if this is what you mean. But try S2U2 it has a password lock that can be set to lock immedieately.
there is a program specifically for that called SmartPhoneTracker. i think some of the newer updates introduce an autolock feature...
check it out...
You could program the End Key to lock the device - in Settings, choose Long Press End Key and set it to Lock Device. Then when you press & hold the End (hang up) key, it locks.
Any good to you?

For anybody that is like me and would like to be able to unlock their moto x with voice without speaking their PIN, I have found a solution and thought I would share it. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done and only works from issuing a command through the ok google now always listening.
Prerequisites: tasker, secure settings
First, go into phone settings>touchless control>commands while locked. Enable calls
Second, create a dummy contact on your phone. I named mine unlock phone and used 888-888-8888 as the phone number. You can use any number you like but it has to be a working number for this to work.
Third, Create a new profile in tasker with the state being an outgoing call to your new contact
Finally, the task:
A1: secure settings>clear password
A2: wait 5 seconds
A4: end call
A5: wait 5 seconds
A6: secure settings>set pin/password
now when the phone is locked just say, ok google now.....call unlock phone (I've also had luck just saying unlock phone). once the call goes through, secure settings disables the password, ends the call, and then resets your password/pin.
I also have many other tasker profiles that I am willing to share. I have been trying to completely switch to voice commands for the phone so I have been doing a lot of work with tasker and its plugins. Any questions just ask.
Thanks for the post and info about Tasker. I am new to tasker and would be interested in seeing your setups. Thanks for your input:good:
I have profiles for:
opening apps, setting the volume, unlocking the phone,
automatically searching for videos and playing them in netflix or youtube,
once i get the thing to use chromecast, going to add the ability to choose big screen
starting/stopping/pausing music, skipping next/previous songs, restarting current song,
checking the current artist name/ song track,
auto posting currently playing song to twitter account,
prompting when new text message arrives to see if you would like it read aloud
with the option to respond and verify the message before sending
my newest creation:
manually set the speed limit, or when maps opens, it asks if you would like to turn on the speedometer
once you specify a speed limit, it checks to make sure its between 0 and 85, if not it prompts you to say a new speed limit
once the speed limit is set, it monitors your speed every 10 seconds to see if you are going 3 or more mph over
if you are speeding, there is a verbal warning to slow down.
if you are driving more than 5 mph under the speed limit, it doesnt do anything the first time but after the second check, it asks you if the speed limit has changed. this allows you to slow down for whatever reason but speed back up without the phone yelling at you
I am working on a smart monitor that will automatically set the speed limit based on your current speed, warn you if you start speeding but if you continue to speed, it will automatically reset the speed limit without yelling at you multiple times. same thing is true if you drop below the speed limit for a specific amount of time, it will reset it then as well.
then for those times when you leave a town, it will detect that you are picking up a significant amount of speed and set the speed limit after you reach a consistent speed.
Semi-related, I recently learned about the shell input options in Tasker. You can simulate screen touches by selecting the action as script, and then shell. The command itself is:
Code:
input tap x y
Where X and Y are the coordinates on the screen. I find it easiest to enable the setting in Developer Options to see the coords you're touching and write them down, then enter them into Tasker. You can also use swipe instead of tap:
Code:
input swipe X1 Y1 X2 Y2
I didn't mess with it too much, but I see A LOT of potential with it and Tasker App Factory to make one off apps to execute the commands and using Google Now to launch them while driving, etc.
Note that using shell commands does require root.

This is semi related. I'm not sure if a new update caused the Speak Pin to Unlock to disappear but my Moto X screen broke yesterday and I can't even unlock my phone since the digitizer broke. If I use a voice command such as "Navigate Home" to trigger the unlock screen I only get the option to enter pin and no option to Speak Pin which makes this a pain. Of course I had also left USB Debugging unchecked as well.

Anyone else experience this? Bueller?
You can create a thread describing all your tasker automation. It can help everyone. Just my two cents :good:

Which one tasker you mean? Its a pattern app? Sorry about my english. Appreciated.

There is only one app called Tasker, AFAIK.

So after a bit of digging around and research, I managed to find and enable Smart Lock. For those of you who didn't know, it's hidden under Security > Trust Agents. After you've enabled, a new 'Smart Lock' menu appears at the bottom of the Security settings menu where you can manage your Smartlock features. Interestingly, it also features the new 'on-body detection'.
So I set it up about 3 days ago but it doesn't always work for me and I'm questioning if it works at all. My lock screen is set to re-enable after 10 minutes of inactivity so it may just be that I logged in during this time and thought that it may be working. I have 3 differen't ways of using smart lock, all of which are enabled: 1= Bluetooth devices including my Moto 360 which is always connected 2=Location, my home address and 3=On-body detection.
But yeah, as I say, it doesn't seem to be working as 90% of the time, I still have to enter my pin to access my phone. Anyone else tried this or willing to test it out? I'm running the first N910FXXU1BOC3 release from Netherlands/Samsung Experience stock.
bumpy - Anyone!?
Went out of the country and decided to try it out, was working great, but here and there I noticed that the phone gets unlocked in the pocket on second day of using this feature, my pictures and music folder has been deleted, I suspect that it happened accidentally in the pocket... Don't have any other explanation. I would avoid this feature while traveling or if you have to pull out phone quite often.
I'm also having the same issue, mine doesn't work when using Smart lock with my Moto 360, it keeps asking for my finger print to unlock...
I have used On-Body Detection and I can say that it worked great from my point of view. One thing to mention, i don't keep my phone in the pocket of my pants, always pocket of my jacket so did not have any issues with unlocking by itself and performing random operations.
But on BOC3 i did notice that the phone was constantly awake and one of the things i tried was disabling on-body detection i can see now that the wakelock issue was resolved and i'm getting a estimated 3 Days left on 80% battery. From my point of view this is more important that unlocking the phone easier
And regarding the trusted devices part and pairing with a smartwatch, i don't see the security benefit of that as the Bluetooth range is quite big. From a security point of view, trusted devices based on a Bluetooth link is not a good idea.
Its not working at all for me with 'Trusted Devices' - I use my Motorola 360 as a trusted device and it all confirms its set up. The only change it actually makes though is that when I wake up my phone, I have to swipe up to access my pin entry screen. Whereas if I disable smart lock, I get straight to the pin entry screen! This was a completely clean flash of BOC5 (Lux) all data, system, cache, etc was wiped and formatted before install through ODIN.

Are you guys sure that you're using the feature correctly?
Swiping from the little lock icon on the bottom of the screen, brings back your specified secure lockscreen. It is a way to secure your phone again, even if a trusted device or other set conditions for Smart Lock are met.
Swiping from anywhere else on the screen should unlock the phone without any security checks.
Works 100% of the times for me.
Check out this video I made to explain it better:
Smart Lock works awesome on my phone. I have my truck's bluetooth as a trusted device and I set up my home as a trusted location. Both work flawlessly but one thing I had to do was add an additional location for my home along with the preset "Home" location I had set up in Maps a long time ago. It wouldn't work until I manually added the 2nd home location.
It's a great feature.

Thanks!
It's just not intuitive. I didn't think to swipe outside the lock ring.
Is it possible ty by-pass unlock screen completely, when in "trusted zone"? Without root.
I'm currently using KNOX and have lockscreen disabled.
If I enable lockscreen (to check its features etc), to disable it again I would have to delete my KNOX container.

I suppose it's a matter of personal preference, I like the idea of being able to quickly secure my screen without, for example, disconnecting my BT earphones. Plus, it's more difficult to aim for the little lock icon than to actually swipe in the middle of the screen.
I am not sure about your question as I don't use the KNOX container, sorry! It sounds though as a security measure that is not possible to bypass. But I could be wrong.

Still it's the one main feature I have been waiting for with lollipop which I'm glad I have now!

Brilliant, it does work! It was purely me swiping up from the lock icon like you say! Doesn't seem very intuitive but I'm just glad it's working! I owe you a beer!
Two questions about the lock screen and security for those in the know.
1) Any easy to use free app that will change the lock screen security automatically either based on time or location? When I get to work, I change my lock screen to pattern security and when I leave work I turn it off. It's a pain to do this each day manually.
2) With the above, even if I had to do it manually, is there a way to keep the settings somehow so I don't have to do the pattern twice and then a pin number for backup twice, each and every time I set it to pattern lock?
Thanks for any help. I know there are a few different programs like Tasker, but they seem fairly complicated and I can't find a way to set security like this.
As you said, tasker is very useful to do things like that. Try it. It's easy and you won't regret.
I never could figure out Tasker. Maybe I just need more time with it.
Trying smart lock right now. I wish there was a way to say "don't trust this location" but trust every other location. I just want my phone locked at work.
Are you on lollipop? If so enable Google smart lock in security-trusted agents then check out security-smart lock

Ha ha....guess you missed the second line of my post above yours?
Is there a way I can set this? Like if I don't use my phone for an hour require a pin to unlock it instead of a fingerprint.
Hola
Simple I think. 2 areas you need to configure:
1. Settings -> Display -> Sleep
2. Settings -> Security -> Screen lock -> Automatic lock

Unless ZTE changed the lockscreen behavior from Marshmallow, the fingerprint scanner will always unlock the device. If you can disable the fingerprint scanner temporarily, I can work something out for you using Tasker. On the lock screen, look for the padlock logo (it might be a fingerprint) at the bottom center of the screen. Either tap it, or press and hold. You may or may not see a message appear (see the attached screenshot). Try to unlock the phone with your fingerprint and let me know if you're forced to type in the PIN.
Apps designated as Device Administrators are supposed to have the ability to lock the device and disable the fingerprint scanner. Nova Launcher, Secure Settings, and Tasker all have Device Administrator supported lock commands. On stock Android, this would disable the fingerprint scanner and require the PIN to be entered. On B29, I found that ZTE removed this behavior and gave the fingerprint scanner absolute authority to unlock the device. If this is still the case, I never figured out a way to completely lock the device.
FWIW I was forced to enter a password today, fingerprint did not work. I did not knowingly reboot. I too find this behavior very disturbing. I do not memorize my passwords as the are robust (long) my finger should suffice in all circumstances IMHO. I am wondering if I could get any kind of an answer from customer service at Axon....
