Hope some developer makes an 'L' custom rom this weekend for our S3.
I'm sure it will happen eventually but I'm really excited to have that amazing stock Android look on my S3 instead of touchwiz
[Requested thread to be moved since it's not related to Help/Troubleshooting]
since google added a way to cast the screen to chromecast, do you think it will be possible to do it for SGS3 too?
I hope you realise these are pre beta versions so things will be broken

Maybe because TouchWiz is not Android "L"? Just a thought.
I really like having the latest Android Version on my s3. Just wondering, if the s3's Hardware is enough to support Android L. Can we expect to See Android L custom Roms for s3? I dont really want to buy a New phone, to stay up to date with Android

Stop talking like samsung, there's no such a thing like "hardware not enough for newer android" Google reduced hardware usage every newer android version, ofcourse there'll be custom roms and I believe it will be faster and smother because of the new ART

Im not really that deep Into Android development. So i really cant say if the change from dalvik to ART is something that requires newer Hardware or just some piece of code, that can be used on any device. Thats why i asked if there are going to be custom Roms for s3.

WTF people you can choose between ART and Dalvik since 4.4 now Dalvik had been removed so ART is default instead of Dalvik...
Porting from a dev. image is not easy, and besides, Samsung hasn't released the sources for the S3 so... near impossible. Don't expect one, not now, not tomorrow, not in the coming months.
Just wait for the real deal and then let's hope Omni and CM teams will iron out the bugs.
There's already a 4.4 based ROM with some Material Design and new stuff in it...

wrong.
there is no dalvik in L(as you said), but there is no default either, its just ART
L contains a new ART, with a working reflection and jit(those were the most broken parts in the art of 4.4)
its now also more faster, with more optimized code and way better GC.
some parts of the code have all been fully changed(compare the sources)

When ART started showing on Kitkat, it was said that apps might take more space and time when being installed, compared to Dalvik.
Is it still true?
How much do apps take now compared to on Dalvik?
How much slower does it take to install apps?
Also, I've tried the new version on the emulator (and the emulator is still slow, BTW). I've tried showing the easter egg of clicking on the OS version , and I saw weird blue and red rectangles.
Does it occur for the preview version on Nexus devices too?
Just putting this here:
"Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha".
^ There is no way there will be an L ROM on the S3 until AOSP gets L.

#NotReal
..
I'm not too sure myself if this real or not, however what irks me is how people seem to be disappointed at googles lack of "cosmetic" changes.
Really?
It took ios five iterations before making major design changes to their software the- ability to change your wallpaper and implementation of folders. What they added the most was features. What google accomplished with gingerbread most was making the OS look as if it was made by one person and ICS looks no different.
WinPho7 Mango? Still looking square. What was added? FEATURES.
What I look forward to most is the the solution to fragmentation that plaguing the OS and talks of being optimized for dual core devices. At this age of Android design takes a backstage to performance.
Too ugly for you? Slap ADW or Launcher Pro and call it a day.
Top Reasons why its real
1.The lockscreen
2.The Transtion when he opened settings
3.Multitasking menu
4.The Widgets in app draw
5.The Settings menu
6.Screen rotation animation
7.Google apps folder
8.The launcher
why doesnt he just install rom manager and post it on here?

I tried MIUI but my phone never could achieve deep sleep on the ICS test build or latest official. The apps that the battery Stats said are apps I need and these apps behave normally on CM7, so w/e, I wanted to give MIUI a try but battery life was horrible b/c of deep sleep issues.
There is a deep sleep patch in the ICS miui op. No excuses now

Lol, we all want to see ICS on the X. As for the iphone comment you geniuses know that you can use any launcher you want and make it exactly like you have it now but with all the customization of miui.... of course you knew that.

I did know that, yes. Not new to loading ROMs. FWIW the miui isn't really ics either.
No the ICS test build has a percentage of 4.0 files added into the framework. The look is simply a theme like any other. No visual or ui changes by way of ICS were included.
It will be nice if we could someday get full ics... Maybe cyanogen team will get it figured soon. I will say miui runs a whole lot better with the bit Scotland did fit into the gb framework. I don't even carry a charger to work anymore.

By stating 'Stock' ICS, you would be looking for something that would only come from Mot/VZW.
Otherwise, there's the ICS MIUI project & the CM9-ICS project.
Wouldn't be expecting a stock ICS update for the X any time this century, but then again, who knows

By Stock, I'm assuming he means AOSP, or 'Stock' in the way Google designed it. That is something that absolutely will not come from Moto/VZW.
CM9 is at this point practically AOSP. It will take a lot of time for them to evaluate the enhancements that were added to CM7 above AOSP GB (Many of which have now been included as part of AOSP ICS).

Just FYI...
I used to be a HUGE CM supporter.
Still am, and am actually ON CM currently...but I flash between that an MIUI constantly.
I'll quickly vouch for MIUI here.
I had avoided it for my entire android experience. Didn't want to touch that crappy iPhone Kangerang!
I flashed it out of curiosity a few months ago...
And have been happily sitting on it as my daily driver (a lot of the time).
It's themes are gorgeous...and even simpler to flash that CM7's TMobile theme engine themes.
The lockscreens? Endless. And again, gorgeous. Super cool customization here.
ICS rip-offs. Blur rip-offs. iPhone rip-offs (blegh!).
The dialer is very blur-like...something that blur does right.
You type (T9-like) a person's name and they pop up in the menu for a quick call.
Menu+Down Volume = Screenshot
Menu+Volume Up = Temporary Full Brightness (Ever been in a sunny area and NEEDED this to see?).
The typical "pull-up" menus from android turn into drop-down menus.
The call-answer function is, again, beautiful. And allows you to quickly ignore and send an auto-text stating that you're busy.
Endless Boot-animations...again, in the theme section.
System sounds were recently added to MIUI themes...
With a touch of a button, you can change your lockscreen sound...keyboard sounds...selection sounds...instantly.
MIUI, is classy. And a very nice ROM.
Try it. If you were like me, you'll be happy you took the plunge.
*As a note, I do NOT like the MIUI launcher...
A custom one quickly fixes that.
As far as AOSP...
What do you like about it?
I mean, I don't dislike it.
But you can flash the gallery onto MIUI.
And the AOSP messenger is nothing special (I mean, it doesn't have features that others don't).
Dialer?
Again, the "blur" feature here is VERY nice.
Contacts?
These look pretty AOSP on MIUI...
And, again, the "ICS MIUI" builds that are currently out are not only not truly ICS...but aren't even official.
MIUI's Facebook page actually posted a bunch of screens this morning of what they're working on for the official release (with UI enhancements, as one user here suggested he wanted).
New Dialer was shown...along with the new app manager (ICS of their own) feature.
Don't just believe the hype like I did...
MIUI is actually pretty goddamn sweet.
I agree Miui is awesome. I'm using the Razor which I got for .01 till the Nexus is released. Then giving this to my wife. But the new ice cream from Google looks amazing. Just wait till we get into that and start chopping it up. It will be wicked.

I don't think any iPhone is in the works for omni at the moment
I felt what was missing was a team to implement ideas that have never been imagined by the average person, or have been thought of as to be "too difficult" to implement.

It WOULD be a feat to crack the iPhone's bootloader past the iPhone 3G and get Android booting on there, wouldn't it..?
So, the OmniROM will not just be another copy of another custom ROM? Now that it's being mentioned, I do feel like a lot of them just have the same features.Maybe that's why I'm not fully satisfied when I habitually flash new ROMS.

I work with someone who builds for the iPhone. I might get them to add omni support for it.
Omni is based on aosp (the stock source from google). From their patches are added to support an array of devices. Then new features are added. Seeing as it's a fairly new project (only been around 2 months), there aren't a lot of new features, however there are a few ones to note
They are adding true multi window support
The quick settings tiles are flipable
There see, so to be a new app called "OmniGears". I'm unsure about what exactly this will do, but it seems to contain rom specific settings
I hope this is enough to convince you this won't be a "copy of another rom"

Imo that's the point and gimmick of the nexus devices.. Samsung HTC and other phone companies have their gimmicks and features + bloat apps.. Nexus has the pure stock experience , they have their source open so other devs and aftermarket os can use it.. Also 4.4 kk is fresh still tho we do have miui 4.4 and chameleon rom their is a lot of problems and glitchyness with them in my experience.. Give it a couple of months and their will be more featured packed roms..I'm sure their is more feature rich ROMs with 4.2 and 4.3 os if u get too bored :good:

space is not a problem, a slim cm12 rom like SlimCM could have enough free space, and moving all posible apps to SD would help to, and ART would be good for a second life to our phone.
But, about the hardware limitations, there is maybe some way to use the 3.4 drivers with 3.10 kernels? And, I ask, did the 3.4 kernel initially support our devices?

No this is not possible because 3.10 kernel has lot of changes...we can use only the android L if we are able to use 3.4 kernel but we will lose many features probably

Android L beta uses 3.4 kernel and has almost all features of the final version. All apps of the final version will work in beta.

That's why android L makes sense, our phone could have a second life.
(Posting it here to not spam CM11 thread)
Don't worry, the CM12 is in production

KitKat was already developed for low end devices, as it only needs 512 MB RAM and has a low graphics mode. But Lollipop needs more process power for its animations and other new features. I know it's sad, but we all knew that this journey would come to an end one day.
But that's just my two cents, maybe someone will port L and it works good [emoji6]

We've had a good run though. Our galaxy S has had some incredible support from A LOT of incredible devs. In fact were still getting new ROMs and updates now even after all the years our phones have been about. I don't think that L will run smoothly, but most likely we will see L hitting our phones, and maybe some dev will find a way of getting this to run well on our phones. Devs seem to love a challenge. It's thanks to such great devs that I'm still using my S1 as my daily driver after 4 years even after changing phones once, not liking the upgrade, and coming back.
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL DEVS WHO HAVE GRACED OUR BELOVED S1.

I can only say the same about the s+. If it hasn't been for our great developers, I would probably have selledy phone after less than a year. [emoji106]
Thanks
Thanks to all developers who have worked for our Galaxy S, and we hope to see even Android L .
There are news about it?
