[Q] Heavily modded rom? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello,
why dont we have heavily modded rom like miui or lewa os much??plz be clear that iam not discouraging any rom developer, they are great and to the least i cant develop bt they can so they deserve respect. all the roms in forums are stock themed with great feature bt what if we need themed rom(not applying any theme, but integrated with framework and system ). we have 2gb ram quad core so there will be not a hardware problem.
we only get very little options like miui, lewa os, xperia z1(recently added). hope we will get some more.

The less stuff you have, the better the battery and a better performing phone.

Imo that's the point and gimmick of the nexus devices.. Samsung HTC and other phone companies have their gimmicks and features + bloat apps.. Nexus has the pure stock experience , they have their source open so other devs and aftermarket os can use it.. Also 4.4 kk is fresh still tho we do have miui 4.4 and chameleon rom their is a lot of problems and glitchyness with them in my experience.. Give it a couple of months and their will be more featured packed roms..I'm sure their is more feature rich ROMs with 4.2 and 4.3 os if u get too bored :good:

Don't get me wrong, I'm not Mr stock guy. First thing I do is root and flash a custom rom. I just try not to go overboard.

Samsung Galaxy II rom for myTouch 4G?

The myTouch 4g is a great phone and I know this is possible but I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to port the Galaxy S II rom to the myTouch 4g I think alot of people would appreciate it. If you guys want the rom from the Galaxy S II please reply to let developers know that you want it as bad as I do!!!!!!! :-D If I was a developer I would port it but I cant. Unless someone walks me through it.......Developers please reply Thank You

Do you mean a touchwiz 4.0 rom? If so, I'm pretty sure there are compatibility issue reasons why the mt4g doesn't have any touchwiz based roms. (I could be totally wrong here, I'm no dev, & welcome the correct answer)... But yea, I think that's why we have sense-based roms, cm based, miui...

Yes a Touchwiz 4.0 rom, you maybe are right and thank you for the reply I appreciate it Im just looking for something new instead of the same old same...lol but thanks again. Im currently looking into becoming a Developer I love the work they make and i would love to become a part in it. I have been with XDA since the G1 days and i think im about ready to start working on becoming a Developer.... So if there is anyone that can help me or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it...Thanks for all the help guys

If you want TouchWiz, you can download TouchWiz 4 pack for MIUI, install MIUI, and install the pack. It might work (and might not).
Use some Google search to get the files. The pack is 161MB. I believe it's somewhere in Galaxy S or S2 sections.
Thanks Jack_R1 is that pack more miui though? Or does it run just like a touchwiz rom? Cause im not that MIUI friendly lol...
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
This is a complete TouchWiz, except for system menus and dialogs.
You can try to install it over CM7, I believe there were reports of it working.
I remember seeing sense ROM's available for Samsung phones that normally ran Touchwiz. I suppose the reverse SHOULD be possible. Though porting a ROM to a phone with completely different hardware that no other touchwiz ROMs are available for would be a pain. No examples to learn from and so on.
Hmm. Any Devs with thoughts?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
It could be done, but it would be very very very hard and time consuming. EDT at one point was trying to port sense to the vibrant, but that really didnt end up as anything, so I would assume it would be the same porting TW to the mytouch. Im sure the right dev with enough time could get a port working.
sorry i cant answer your question but i have an alternative.
if you just want touchwiz 4 and UI that looks like SGSII, here:
1. flash CM7
2. find samsung theme for theme chooser (can be found here anyway)
3. install the theme
4. install the touchwiz 4 from here
5. you done, simple like that.

The same reason people put CM7 and/or MIUI on the MT4G. Maybe he doesn't want the bloated Sense and would rather have a TW4 GB UI that already has hardware accelerated launcher and much less bloat.
With that said, as nice as it'd be, it's not possible. The list goes on in what you would need to put TW4 on any phone that's not Samsung.

That's what I'm saying... Too many fan-boys on a certain UI rather than being open minded.
Sense is my favorite non AOSP UI as well. But it's no where as smooth and as fast as TW4. Hell, even the new MotoBlur easily trumps Sense speed wise.

Galaxy S 1 or 2? Because there's a big difference. My gf's stock SGSII is the smoothest and fastest I've ever tried, faster than any custom ROM that I've ever tried. There's no TW4 for SGS1, just TW3.
There are custom ROMs with TW4 on SGS1.
This thing will quickly become laggy if you seriously use it, whatever you put on it. Except MIUI.

passing on my n1 to my wife..

I've had my N1 for 2 years now and it's time to move on.
I rooted and plagued it with custom roms, however, since my wife is not tech savvy and want to install a stable, easy rom to use.
Should I revert back to total stock or CM7.1 stable?
Suggestions?
There are quite a few rock stable ROMs out now, its going to be a matter of what you think she'll enjoy.
Stock ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312540 )
SuperOSR ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195656 )
OxygeN1mod ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214543 )
CM7 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297542 )
"Stock" MIUI ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117708 )
OMN1GB ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336059 )
Hope that helps man
Its pretty big of you to give your N1 to your wife, I told my wife when I retire mine, its going in a safe place in the closet LOL.
that's great man, thanks!
probably i'll go with stock....
Yeah after 2 years of custom ROMs I've returned to stock and I'm actually quite happy with it, nice and stable and I don't actually miss any of the root features (yet)
Cheers

I had CM7, although my phone for the last 6 months was plagued with the call delay issue (I know it was unrelated to CM7). I finally got round to going back to stock and now I have no issues with call delay, and to be honest I can't be bothered going back ;-)

I second MIUI as the ROM of choice for Nexus. This is the most functional ROM for Nexus as it comes, without sacrificing speed. Stock lacks way too many useful things, starting with a decent dialer.
CM7
For me CM7 would be the best choice, then stock!
Let me make it easy on you...
Put it back to stock.
Then when she messes it up or something doesn't work she can't blame your modding.
Save yourself the agony.

and also I just flash it like I normally do with CM7? ie. just reboot into recovery, wipe, flash. and would I also have to flash the gapps like I do with CM7?
Or you could install stock ICS. Looks like it'll be fairly stable and feature-complete in a week or so!

but it looks very fast and smooth

i agree there, but i think stock ICS may come a little later.
one of the main reasons why im waiting for the samsung official version is because it comes with kernel 3.x (according to the leaks) whereas most of these modded versions are still using kernel 2.6.57.

If you like stock then why flash a custom ROM? If you don't like the added functionality that custom ROMs bring then there's no point using them. Use stock rooted and be happy, but don't ask (or, by the tone of your post, demand) devs to create ROMs for you which no one else will use.

Because aosp based rom are full of bugs, issues, force close and unstable ? making my n4 lagging without reason where stock doesn't have ?
But I somehow want an enhanced stock rom I don't know why.
Well maybe I could miss pie control which is the only thing that is useful in a n4 custom rom.

Both are very nice rom bases.
Some people like cm but some like aosp (pure nexus).
Stock rom is always boring and have no features.
Flash 2-3 roms and check their features...
Almost all roms are stable but difference is features...
I like Dirty Unicorn... It's aosp based with cyanogen theme engine + a hell lot of features...
Im using Pure Nexus at the moment, but i want to try something else.
Years ago i only used CM but with that whole new Microsoft, Cortana **** i dont know.
I like Pure Nexus (and AOSP in general) better because it's still stock Android with additional features. It is boring compared to CM and CM based ROMS but that is what also makes AOSP based ROMs less buggy. While CM goes in the opposite direction. If you want a ROM that you can customize down to the littlest detail, go with CM. Just be aware of the Bluetooth bug found in every CM based ROM.

Benzo Rom is really good, I been running it for about a month and it's stable as. As for Cortana its actually pretty good, I've been using 'her' a lot in the Xbox Preview Program and it's actually incredible, Xbox is actually the perfect platform for 'her'
I have used CM12/13 on my Nexus 5 since the last 2 years and have loved every minute of the Cyanogen experience.
Recently got the Nexus 6p. Unlocked and rooted it the same day. Used CM13 on it for a week and found that my phone was randomly restarting. Used Resurrection Remix since i was not satisfied with CM13. Loved the level of customization RR offers, but was still experience random reboots along with other bugs. Have been using Pure Nexus since 3 days now and am glad to note that the random reboot issue seems to have been resolved. Although PN does not offer the level of customization that comes with CM/RR ROMs, it does offer the overall stability and amazing battery life. Which for me is a priority.
It may just be me but, I can't use CM. Every time I install a CM based ROM on my phone I get noticeably worse signal. Instead of having 4G where I am, I will have 3G. The moment I switch back to an AOSP based ROM (DU, Pure Nexus) I go back to getting normal signal. I can't say its CMS fault because I never really read up on CM causing this issue for anyone else so its purely anecdotal.

CM is caf based where it gets updates from Qualcomm directly which is why your signal bars look lower. That is your actual signal unlike aosp ROMs which aren't accurate.
