Yup, just saw the announcement on the official HTC Facebook.
Says 90days after the google source is released the M7 will have "L"
Great to see HTC throwing updates like this LAST gen phones.
Does anyone know if google is planning on releasing the L source code for the developer's preview or only the Nexus 5/7 factory images?

For what I've observed from Google I/O ,android L developer preview will be initially available only for nexus 5/7..
As this will be a test build only,I don't think Google will release factory images for other devices.. Other nexus devices n gpe might see the light some days later but not any soon

Wouldn't be surprised if someone ports the dev preview for devices other than the nexus 5/7. We'll just have to wait and see...

I don't think that would happen as porting means copying features of one device to another which are at same android version. So some features might be available but complete rom can hardly be available. Again We have different hardware config from nexus devices so hardware driver won't be available as well.
yay.. finally some good news.
I can't wait to try Android L on my m7!

After watching part of Google I/O and seeing that android L will be heading to nexus devices tomorrow how likely is it that we might have a working port of L soon?
Thanks!
It will be incredible
Quickly
From my personal experience compiling, tweaking, and writing code....it will come to us very quickly as soon as Cyanogen syncs to Android L. Android is very modular, and for that reason alone, very few tweaks [comparatively] are required to make it work on new devices. Thank Linux.

That was nice, I think the g2 will be much smoother than it already is with this new project

Fairly certain that's not the case. Devs will have access to it but I don't think it's going to be pushed out right away.

i'd say give it about 6 months from the time the nexus devices get the update. its lg afterall. i at least hope they go opensource with the IR remote. idiots just wont let us remotely control other ir devices which arent in the quick remote apk !
I am sure there'll be a nice port.
The UI for lg g3 seemed to me that the colors and how things are "flatter" were very similar to L. Maybe LG got the memo from Google regarding L. I honestly think that the updates are going to come sooner than they would now. Oems will get a 6 month headstart now.
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Today N5 will get the L preview, maybe someone could port it? G2 and N5 are cousins
Once someone ports it to the g2, it can work across all the other variants. I'm guessing cm is going to do the porting first, but once they finish KitKat. When KitKat came out they waited till they finished jellybean before starting KitKat, I assume they're going to do the same here. The developer preview shouldn't be that different than the final release, so porting it now should be a head start.
For the sake of keeping things orderly, please use this thread for further discussions regarding L: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796017
Thanks!
Anyone think we have a chance for it?
probably not officially, but from what we have xda
Wysłane z mojego Moto G przy użyciu Tapatalka
We will have it for sure. But official is kind of unknown atm because only preview images for the nexus 5 and nexus 7 (I guess the 2013 model)will be avalible tomorrow. I guess wait and see what the devs can do overall we are still rocking a nexus device. Right?
I think 4.4.4 is latest officialy update but not last one, we have xda.
Sent with Nexus 7 via Tapatalk
I should have been more clear. I would not assume, nor do I think we will get it officially. BUT....I am not even sure if we will have it unofficially as the ROM has to function with Tegra 3 APIs due to the new graphics abilities. yes/no?
who knows.
the code has not been released yet, so nobody can tell at the moment.

Good point. Just thought is would be fun to theorize about the possibility. It would really "renew" the 2012 models viability.

you can say it for let's say 70% that it will come UNOFFICIAL because most custom roms have a backward compatible framework. So that e.g. drivers that are not supported by a newer android version can still be used in that version or a CPU feature is missing e.g. neon in the 2X. Google stopped the support for non neon devices I think in android 4.2.2 and guess what, the 2X is rocking Android 4.4.4
Think that Nexus 7 (2012) not have ART compilation and Android L is only ART. Not official Android L for N7.
But... the community will bring us Android L
I trust on xda for android L in my nexus :highfive:
Android L developer preview image officially live for "flo" (Nexus 7 2013) here: https://developer.android.com/preview/setup-sdk.html#top
Shall the port begins now?
I think we'll have it, the dev on Google IO session talking about Material Design said they "tested the 60fps performance on the original Nexus 7"
This at least proved they have a L build for us, the matter is will they release it to us.

If not official I hope devs can come through. I remember honeycomb was being ported to phones so yeah devs here on theses forums are amazing
Don't worry, we'll get it. I asked the Android team during the Android Fireside Chat how L will run on low end devices and they said they began testing and development on the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7 (2012). So L was actually designed for our tablet and will obviously have an official build! :highfive:

It has been proven by several custom ROMs that ART runs on the 2012 Nexus 7. So it's just a matter of Google officially enable ART on the 2012 Nexus 7.
But I actually don't think that we'll get the official L Update. Google wants us to upgrade to the newer N7 or even the rumored Nexus 8.

This doesn't really mean anything. Google may work with older devices during development to ensure performance and quality of Material on older hardware, but doesn't necessarily mean they will create an official build for consumers.
Source: http://m.androidcentral.com/unlocked-htc-one-m8-see-camera-update-444-starting-tomorrow
According to a message posted by HTC's Mo Versi on Twitter, the metal-clad flagship smartphone will be getting an update starting tomorrow that brings with it Android 4.4.4 along with the latest HTC Eye Experience software that was announced alongside the HTC Desire Eye.
The software will bring features like enhanced face tracking, split capture, and more.

Has anybody received the OTA yet? It is assumed that the update will be rolled out gradually to unlocked M8s. No exact date was given on when carrier editions will see the update and Eye software, but the devs here at XDA will probably have it ported in no time!

Greeting, if anyone knows when it will be available to Android 5.0 for Xperia Z3?
Something was discussed, it should come this year or next (Q1/2015)... It would be good if Sony starts thinking forward about the new android L...
Or we'll get a new update on Z3, while out new Z4..

LOOL.... Nexus get out 6 of november, lollipop will land few days later on older nexus and GPE version of phone.
So it means sony have just one and half month to bring it to Z3 if they want to realease it for Z3 series, and you say its slow?
And for compare
Code:
HTC One (M7) - Android 5.0 Lollipop update in 90 days
HTC One (M8) - Android 5.0 Lollipop update in 90 days
HTC One mini - Android 5.0 Lollipop update, schedule TBA
HTC One mini 2 - Android 5.0 Lollipop update, schedule TBA
Motorola have 4-5 phones, samsung few phones, lg 2 maybe and sony will update entire Z series.
This is briliant
Chance for better 3rd party camera apps?
Since several of the features in 5.0 look quite interesting for photography purposes, any guesses if these could be used for better 3rd party camera apps?
As seen on http://www.android.com/versions/lollipop-5-0/ :
A range of new professional photography features for Android Lollipop that let you
Capture full resolution frames around 30 fps
Support raw formats like YUV and Bayer RAW
Control capture settings for the sensor, lens, and flash per individual frame
Capture metadata like noise models and optical information

Sony states 5.0 will be released beginning of 2015. So assuming its end of Jan or early Feb then it is 3 months from the release of 5.0 to nexus devices. This could be the time frame for all the other OEM's except motorola which might release it in december. I would call that fast. I knew this before buying the device so i am not really bothered about it.
At least they have announced an intention to update those phones. Unlike Samsung...

So will there be any changes for an update for Z3 to Lollipop? When I had a Samsung/HTC update to 4.0, there weren't any major changes. Will the Z3 be able to run ART with even better battery saving capabilities? Anyone know what features might be added? Im interested to know if there will be any major changes, or if I should just wait for a Z4/Nexus 6 that will have the latest features instead of getting a slimmed down update.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

If I read it correctly ART is the default runtime in lollipop so yeah... Guess it'll be able to run ART. And nobody knows what the exact changes will be... only sony.
I'm pretty sure Z3 will get L in late Jan - early Feb

Aye, let the Nexus users be the guinea pigs and do the testing for us - hopefully by that time it will be bug free is the way I see it
rooting lollipop may need a custom kernel ? (according to chainfire) this will make bootloader unlock and drm issue all the more interesting hehe

Ah, yes, but because of the frequency of new models being released, it's easy to forget that the Z and Tablet Z actually only came out about 18 months ago - so are pretty much within the '18 month' window of getting supported.
I actually don't want Android 5 / L before it has stabilized. KitKat needed 5 iterations to settle (remember all the connectivity issues up and including 4.4.3?!).
Hence, completly agree with zoomee, let Nexus users do some testing and Google do some fixes first
Meanwhile, the Z2 STILL doesn't have 4.4.4
M8 GPE was released in Apr. 2014 with end of life is Apr. '16 for Android version updates. Is Marshmallow the final version?
"Google Play edition devices
Google Play edition devices get updates from the device manufacturers, not directly from Google. Google works closely with the manufacturers to provide system updates shortly after a new Android version is released.
When your device will get updates
After an update is available, it can take up to two weeks to reach your device. Based on your carrier, it may take longer than two weeks after release to get an update.
How long your device will get updates
Google Play edition devices may not receive the latest version of Android if they fall outside of the update window, which is usually around 18 months after a device has been released."

Probably not, seeing as to how the Sense M8 also stopped at Marshmallow. Doubt it'll be updated if the original one isn't supported anymore. Same thing happened with the M7 GPE.
I'm sure we'll get Sense 8(6.0.1) in the near future, but yes, as written above, everything stops at 6.0.1..

It's true, but really - the difference is almost none, especially with the custom roms we got. After all sense 8 is really close to sense 7. Not to forget they officially released the launcher thus most of the s8 features(freestyle).

Don't you think that some of that faster part is due to the better SOC + cleaner perception due to the better screen? You can't compare OS running on SOC that got twice+ the speed of the sd801. M8 is still a great phone, but it's 2 years old in marked where things push fast forward.
