[Q] Imessage? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Sorry if this is the wrong section for this.
I know in the past you could get imessage on Android, but there were a lot of security concerns with it and now even that app is removed from the google play store. Is there any secure way to get the app? If not what app is the closest to it? Right now I'm using textra, and I really like it, but I have noticed some bugs with it. Most people I text use iPhones so that's why I would love to get imessage. I'm rooted if that helps with anything.

I just googled it and it doesn't look safe. I wouldn't install it. It seems messages are sent through some server in China

That sucks, but thanks for the help. Has anyone here used it, and if so can you vouch for its security

Doubtful it's safe. Considering the only other methods I've seen involved using a Mac or iPhone as a proxy to connect it, it has to run through one somewhere, and there's no guarantee it's encrypted.

I don't think so; I think you may be overstating things a bit. What do you really use flash for on your phone anyway?
I certainly didn't switch TO android because it could do flash.
And I sold phones for a long time and no customer ever told me they chose android because of flash compatibility.
Also, I don't see how your flash comment has anything to do with the Skyvi app.

Some did, but they switched for the wrong reason. I'm sure google has a planned HTML5 or something along the lines better than flash for the impending future. To remove something 'crucial' and NOT have a plan to replace it, is asinine. I'm not worried at all.

Not working with cm7. Says device can not recognize voices.
Edit: must have google voice search installed on phone.
trying now.
I like Vlingo better
Other than asking my phone dumb stuff like "what is the meaning of life?" I do have any real need for Siri-like apps. Maybe if I used my phone while driving or something. What these apps need is an uncanny ability to answer any meaningless question I could come up with. That will sell me.

Skyvi works fine on my HTC Desire HD running CM7. In fact it runs so well that I can't remove it from the notifications bar!
Tried Iris, not so good, know Vlingo don't like them (the company)

[Q] Encrypt Nexus 7 or not?

Any thoughts on encryption? Any input from people that have done it?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Doesn't seem like OTA updates work with encryption, I planned to encrypt mine like the rest of my stuff but not if I can't get updates.

Was your GNex rooted and encrypted?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Personally, I think that unless you actually have something important and confidential to protect, it really doesn't warrant the use of encryption. It makes things a pain in the arse e.g. updates, some recoveries don't work with encryption etc.

Remove Bloatware from Nexus 4

Hi everyone
i know nexus 4 comes with stock rom from google, but there must be things that you recommend removing to keep the beast going at 100% pace.
also, i am a privacy geek and would love to know which of apps i should disable to give as least as possible to google?
at one point i remember a rom that was the stock android but it had all of google's collections bots/apps disabled. Cant seem to think of it
cheers

If you want to receive OTA updates then you have to keep all the apps but you can disable them.
I've disabled Google movies and magazines.
If you really want to avoid Google you should install cyanogen mod without the gapps. You won't require a gmail account to use your phone but that means you have to use alternative market places.
There are open source apps for almost everything but I've never used them so can't say. I know there is a open source maps app though but probably doesn't come close to Google apps.

It depends on how you define bloatware. Some see it as being anything preinstalled on the device that isn't absolutely necessary, which means that most of the GApps that come on the N4 are bloatware. Personally I disagree with that definition of bloatware but you can see why people may think that way.

Awesome, thanks! Didn't think to look by username, DUH!
You could just install something like cm10.1 with no gapps.

Installing AOSP mms.apk on rooted Note 3?

I hope I won't get in trouble for accidentally asking a question that I might be able to figure out with more research. But I despise the Samsung texting application, and I wanted to know if it was possible to install a 4.3 AOSP mms app?
+1 I also want this. I don't think it's a bad question at all

Yea, I found out pretty quick that the POS gear doesn't work with Handcent (but what's REALLY annoying is it doesn't work with gmail either)

It's ugly and doesn't put any information in the notifications. At least in the few minutes I used it for, it just said "message" in my pull down.

What is LG Intelligent Agent?

I am interested to know what is LG Intelligent Agent? I think that maybe taking some battery away from me, and want to know if it's safe to disable it without messing with anything? Thanks.
I'm like 99% sure it's safe to freeze, but if you want to be sure there's a thread somewhere where someone found like 50+ apps that are safe to freeze and listed them all.

Nobody really knows, just like much of the other bloatware on the phone
Rumors say it will turn your phone into a dumbphone Nokia 3310 without the same durability, so I am afraid to do it myself.
it's needed for some stock features like Text Link.

So far I can't notice a change in battery life with the screen on, but I've noticed at idle it is a little better with battery consumption.
